  • Seafood Producers Cooperative is the longest running 100% fishermen-owned co-op in North America. Get to know the place we call home, our co-op values and a few of our fishermen. Our fishermen harvest and process their catch in Sitka, Alaska and it is sold throughout the U.S. to consumers under the Alaska Gold Seafood brand.

    We’ve been a customer of Alaska Gold for many years and have never been disappointed with their products. We especially enjoy their halibut filets. They always arrived quickly, well packed and frozen absolutely solid. The halibut also is snow white in color, unlike locally available “fresh” halibut. We highly recommend Alaska Gold and the SPC. Support these fishermen, and women, their families and a USA business and resource.

    Thank you SPC for sharing this. I was a commercial fisherman 5th generation, my family going back to Sicily. I am in San Diego California and fished long line ground fish, albacore troller/jig boats, shark/swordfish, tuna purse seiners, I have seen a lot of changes here in San Diego since I was a kid and what you folks are doing up there is so great in so many ways. I just happened to find this video on You Tube and I wish it was a few hours long, I am sure you all have some great things to share. Best of luck to all of you and thank you for looking out for the next generation. I agree that you folks in Alaska are the best at management and conservation. I no longer commercial fish but spend a lot of time fishing with my wife on our private boat. Sport fishing is different but still fun and we love the great food the ocean provides. Thank you and all the best.

      Thank you for the kind comments, Dan! Fishing has changed over the years, but we are thankful for what the ocean provides.

    We are getting to the end of our first sampler box. A good way to start. We buy our producce from the farmers market in santa monica and Healdsburg, in season. The filets individually packaged are perfect sizes, and easy to defrost in the fridge the day of. The quality is way better than anything I see in the SoCal area, and so much easier to procure. Less of a carbon footprint...frankly. How many runs to the fish market I am saving by having you in my freezer. I will share with my friends, as they did with me.

    Is the Duna still part of your fleet. My grandfather owned that boat when I was a child. Thanks Candace

      Indeed, the Duna is still in our fleet. Captain is on our board. Beautiful boat!

    I appreciate your work, making wild salmon available. It's important for my health. Good fat is necessary & helped me lose the last 33 lbs. (120 lbs) Please check out Drs Eric Berg & Ken Berry on liver, kidney, heart & lung health, etc. Eating fat doesn't make us fat.

    Our ancestors of the US runed this land with toxic chemicals. They had the mindset that all resources including animals are on this earth for consumption and sale. I am glad we are now becoming more focused on maintaining wildlife habitat. Let's work to return the lands and seas to their natural state. Clean up errors from the past. Outlaw all commercial and industrial fishing so the Oceans and seas can recover from the overfishing and depletion that is going on right now! Do it NOW!

    • @AlaskaGoldBrand
      @AlaskaGoldBrand  2 роки тому

      Appreciate your enthusiasm Conan for maintaining wildlife habitat. We agree. We too are frustrated with the degradation of habitat and ocean health. We're a relatively low impact fishery, fishing using relatively un-industrial hook and line methods. It might surprise you, but many fishermen, including those of our fishermen-owned co-op, are tireless advocates for the health of the ocean, preserving habitats, and fish. There are numerous salmon runs that would literally not exist were it not for the advocacy by fishermen. We're doing it now.
