From all my google searches over the years, I've always thought of anxiety as the enemy... the cause for my low self-esteem, the reason why I failed in things I tried doing... but after listening, I cried because I realised I am the reason for my thought patterns, I am the one who puts myself down, who tells myself that I am unlovable, that I am not smart enough or skilled enough to make it out in my career. When you talked about being kind to ourselves, to make peace, to actually listen to our crew instead of trying to lock them away and hide... it made sense. I used to think anxiety was a disorder, but now I realise chronic anxiety is just a result of an emotion that has tried to take over the ship because the captain has lost control. I am the captain, and I need to take back control by being kind to myself, by listening and by telling myself I am good enough.

The phrase"do not be afraid" is written in the bible 365 times in the Bible
That's a daily reminder from God to live every day being fearless.
I hope this will help too:
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.”
      Psalm 94:19
"Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you."
      1 Peter 5:7
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
      Matthew 6:34
      Ask God for help..
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."
      Philippians 4:6
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
      Matthew 6:34
"Say to those who have an anxious heart, 'Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.' "
      Isaiah 35:4
"And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?"

For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, eyes closed, be still and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight with your thoughts. Slowly they will reduce and relax the mind. Deep inhalation-exhalation is not needed. Day or night before sleep sit or lie down and observe your breath. Accurate. I feel like anxiety isn’t an issue until you identity the anxiety as anxiety. Until about a year ago, I never really cared and I was never very stressed. I used to interpret anxiety as, “hey I need to do something.” Then all the sudden I was like, “hey I’m feeling anxious so I need to do something to get rid of it.” Which makes me more anxious because my goal isn’t to accomplish my task, it’s to actively try to get rid of the anxiety

@@sausagetdm9339 i think the most important and easiest thing to realize is that it is totally okay to feel anxious or nervous. Today‘s problem is that you dont feel allowed to be vulnerable or feel anxious about something anymore, just because others dont seem to feel the same thing. You have to realize that it is okay to feel anxious. Everybody experiences nervousness, some more intense than others but the thing is that you are NOT alone! You are allowed to feel anxious and you have to accept whatever you feel. This it what makes you human! Feeling anxious is just a natural reaction of your body, just like feeling happy or angry or excited. If you avoid situations, whether it will make you experience nervousness or happiness, you will still feel anxious about either things because you feel afraid to accept this emotion. You have to accept that this is an emotion that everybody feels and that it is okay to feel something. I hope that helped you! At least this realization helped me overcome my anxiety :) I still feel anxious sometimes, but it doesn’t rule over my life anymore.

My anxiety has saved me from a lot of disasters and I feel like I never take a moment to appreciate that. Yes, it's painful to wake up with a heavy chest, struggling to breathe. The constant cold feeling in my stomach is not easy to live with. However, I remember being anxious from as young as 4 and now at the age of 22 everytime I feel extreme anxiety I remind myself that the mission is not to "get rid" or anxiety or "avoid" anxiety, the mission is to listen to my mind and negotiate with it and always strive for the best outcome in the given situation.

I am 77 and dislocating a hip replacement at 73 woke me up to my age. I didnt think I suffered from anxiety because it was controlled by a life time of exercise. Running, hiking and walking my dog. I even ran after my initial hip replacement and took my dog for 5 to 10km walks. This was all taken away in a split second when I over extended my leg and the hip popped out. It was extremely painful and the surgeon put it back a month later it popped out again. This time the extreme pain caused a mild stroke and I had to wait 8 weeks before it was re done. This all created the anxiety I feel today because I was suddenly faced with my morality which had never entered my head as I was always fit and age was just a number. Without exercise my levels of cortisol could not be controlled and not being able to release all the energy has created anxiety as well as depression as I realise now 3 years later that my life will never be the same again and I dont know how to "be" without exercising. Frustration has accompanied the anxiety as all the stress of the what its leaves me exhausted. The thought of living the rest of my life out like this is not how I imagined it. Now I am overthinking everything and am totally demotivated as I cant do what I did all my life and took for granted. I am on anti depressants and valium in small doses but have never taken medication in my life. Now I depend on it. What is frustrating is knowing I need to accept and allow but I am fighting it even though I know it's not how I am going to find relief. Its got to be the most frustrating space to be in especially at this age.

Every time I feel anxious, I try to appreciate the emotion, that it is not the enemy.. then I tell my "crew", "Thanks for letting me know.. but you don't have to trigger on thoughts.. thoughts are never dangerous, let them come and go" OR that "you don't have to trigger on emotions, things are as they are and I am in no danger, but thanks". Something of the sort.
Being kind to myself and my anxiety response and GUIDING it in the right direction, helped me out of years of being anxious and depressed constantly and just seeing things for what they are.
This took time mind you, and repeating myself for a long time, but helping guide my response for a longer period helped it stick.

Listening to this good man makes me believe that anxiety is only just a strong emotion and NOT a Disease. I have also got the pulsating feeling in my stomach, and that is okay. The mind chattering is a completely normal thing too. I've only come across this video today, but I'm hoping it might create some positive change in my life. Strangely, that is to go back to how I was before and simply live with anxiety, rather than to fight it.

So telling yourself that it won't be forever and that you have people who care for you. Another is deep breathing, but slow breathing. Finally, imagining a place that brings you peace and transporting your mind there. You can do so by closing your eyes and focusing on the colors and sounds of that place, as you piece by piece create that imagery.

It's a technique that I learned from Katie D'ath's UA-cam channel which teaches CBT techniques for overcoming anxiety. I highly recommend her videos! The techniques are not designed to get rid of the anxiety (nor should that be the goal), but minimises its importance in one's life

@@junaid7197 That is incredible! I'm happy to hear you're overcoming that. That is definitely true about becoming habituated to it. I used to have very bad stage fright and fret over small stuff, but I found as I kept exposing myself to different situations it dissipated. CBT and mindfulness can be really helpful in allowing one to confront anxiety and understand it. I'll definitely check out that video. On another note, I think anxiety is also so prevalent nowadays because we live in such a fast paced society. In other words, anxiety can be another approach at analyzing life, albeit, overanalyzing. I think nature can help with that though. In nature, it can be easier to be connected and in tune with everything. Another thing is simplifying life such as finding enjoyment in the small things. That can be laughing with friends, seeing the sunrise, listening to crickets or trains in the distance at night , haha, I know that's probably random...but yeah, everyone has different techniques at destressing.
Sometimes downsizing belongings or decluttering can help with that. The most difficult thing is probably trying to get other people to understand when you're anxious. What do you think helps with that?

    • @junaid7197
      @junaid7197 4 роки тому

@@maiamartini9095 I think you are right that one of the reasons that more people are debilitated by anxiety is the fast-paced nature of the world, but I think the main one is that humans in today's society are not as social as they used to be. I find the company of others to be not only incredibly fulfilling, but also a valuable stress-buster. When we can talk, laugh and share with another, problems seem to melt away. Messaging you has this effect on me too. We humans were born to be with each other, even if this can sometimes be difficult.
I like what you said about the little things. In a way, life is "merely" a combination of many, many little things, all added up to make a big thing.
Getting others to understand that you are anxious is not always easy. I recommend sharing solely with a close person or two who knows you well and who you think will understand. :)

This I agree to. If you’re having a panic attack (shortness of breath, tight chest, constant dread) for no apparent reason and it’s not stopping, you my friend may have a panic disorder like myself. This guy is right that anxiety is a good thing sometimes; it helps us not be late to work/meet a deadline, ask out that special someone, etc. but it’s when your brain misfires and convinces you that you have anxiety when you’re just trying to watch your favorite show that you really should seek help… and part of that help may mean medication, and that’s okay. It’s no different than a diabetic taking their insulin, or a woman taking her birth control because she doesn’t want to get pregnant; it can help. Trust me, I know ❤️

Once you understand that it gets easier to accept it as a normal part of life and with that comes the reduction and intensity of the symptoms. There are techniques like deep breathing and meditation to help you cope while you’re working on understanding anxiety. Try to reduce your stress, stay away from negative people and situations and spend more time doing the things that you enjoy.

Excellent talk. For those that are here for a way to take the edge off panic at its pinnacle.
    1. Contract hard the muscles in your body for 5 seconds.
    2. Breath in for 4 seconds while still contracting
    3. Release your contraction and breathe out for 5-8seconds.
Doing this over and over can bring you back to a calm state, really focus on exhaling the tension away on step 3.
I get panic attacks at night sometimes (just got one there) and this technique I find is the best solution in the moment of panic. Helps if there's meditation music available, whatever keeps you focused on the breath and process.
If fearing a panic attack itself normally drives you into one, knowing the above approach may prevent anxiety turning Into full blown panic.
    Hope this helps!

Anna, Reduce negative thoughts and feel much better. . Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, eyes closed, be still and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight with your thoughts. Slowly the mind will relax. No deep inhalation-exhalation needed. Anytime of the day or night before sleep sit or lie down on your back and observe your breath. Be as still as possible as it reduces negative thoughts. Make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

Anxiety has been ruling my life for the past four or five years and I’ve barely began to take the reigns back… it’s been a journey and I really needed this video. Anxiety can be so crippling at times and nobody really understands, some people will say “oh yeah, I get it. I get anxious too sometimes” but no it’s completely crippling to where all I can do sometimes is lay on the floor w a blanket and pray for it to pass … anxiety is real but it’s not a disease , it’s an emotion and I’m going to try harder not to fight it , to listen to my crew . ❤❤❤

This helps especially when you think you had it under control and took a big hit of anxiety right to the face. Lets pray for the strength and courage to keep moving forward and getting mentally healthy!

This truly spoke to me. So impowering. I have tried everything to "rid" my anxiety. I have been to therapy, my doctor, and have even been put on medication for it, but none of that helped. It just told me "there is something wrong with me" and "I'm not normal". It told me I am ill and no one can do anything to help me. No one, not even my therapist, has told me about accepting anxiety and listening to it. I have never been told it is a good thing. The way you put this into perspective made me realize there is nothing wrong with me. It made me realize, that if I accept and listen to my feelings it truly helps. It helped more than any therapist I've seen or medication I have been on. Thank you for these words!!!

One more thing helped me by 50%. Its top stop drinking coffee altogether, not even decaf. And not even once, even as a treat.

Wow I've been trying to get rid of my anxiety for over a year but the crazy part is I didn't even know it was anxiety. I'm sorry Tim I can't show you how grateful I am for this talk it really opened up more doors doors for me. I now feel more FREE. Something I haven't felt in a depressing slaving whole year!!!! I always thought anxiety would soon just go away but when you made it look normal, something the doctors don't do, made me feel NORMAL!!! Thank you so much!!! Just know you really helped someone today!

this is one of the most powerful talk on Anxiety.. going to therapy weekly and reliving past traumas is pretty much all I've been offered. listening to this talk makes way more sense to me in understanding that I'm not ill than years of talking about being bullied when I was 12.

      Matthew 6:27
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
      Matthew 11:28-30
