Optimus6128, that's a good tip although I have to admit I had a hard time trying to figure out what spot you were referring to. Literally, the wall on the left. And oh boy what a secret; the raised platform opens up so many new possibilities with regard to dealing with the monsters on the platforms. Thanks for the tip!
I just managed to pull through this mission. The BFG was not behind the wall near the start which made it a lot more challenging but it was still a really fun mission to play imo. Just the sheer amount of enemies and the fast paced nature makes it stand out amongst the other missions. Thank you for the guide, it really helped me!
I've only recently got into playing the original Doom. Despite it being around when i was a teen i only experienced the Shareware on a friends PC. I'm now absolutely hooked on this amazing game and out of all the guides i have watched yours are always the most clear and concise and have helped me crack a few levels that felt impossible. Thanks for this. I searched every nick and cranny for an hour trying to find out where to go b4 watching this video. Turns out I had no idea sprint was a thing...lol...I had never used it b4 this mission where it is required to jump the platform.
Your videos have become my go-to for this episode. I struggle through the level to the end over a week or two, watch your video, realise I did everything wrong and start again I couldn't stop laughing when you said "fuck you" to the spectre, so relatable
I had to look up this guide because I couldn’t figure out how to jump across the gap in the beginning. Turns out I made it all the way to E4M2 without knowing you could sprint in this game
There's a hidden switch in the alcove on the ledge, the one where three Barons pop out once you grab the yellow key! It raises a section of floor in the central room that makes it slightly easier to deal with the Barons and Lost Souls that show up when you press the yellow switch. Only learned this through tons of trial and error; I had no idea there was a BFG in this map, so I had to replay it many, many times to beat it. The Plasma Rifle was a life-saver, especially with all the ammo they give you in the maze. This map and the other one Romero designed for this episode, Against Thee Wickedly, nearly made me give up on this game, but it made finally beating them all the more rewarding!
Finally beat this level in UV, I had to play this episode in all 3 difficulties before being able to do this, it wasn't 100% since I left a couple of barons of hell I think, but ain't nobody got time for that I just rushed to the secret exit, and to say the least, grabbing the bfg behind the wall was a life saver, I had to kill a lot of enemies the regular way but it was worth it. E4M1 and E4M2 are the hardest levels in the game, my flesh was consumed multiple times in these 2 level, but I know the rest of the game is going to be a breeze Thanks man, couldn't have done it with your guide
Yeah, telefragging the Cyberdemon is almost as much fun as watching one duke it out with the Spider Mastermind in Doom 2 level 20 (I think it's level 20)
As just a regular player playing through doom for the 1st time on regular difficulty, I'm finding this level way harder than e4m1. I probably died 30 times but eventually figured that one out. This one just seemed impossible, died countless times before consulting a guide and even with this guide I'm struggling massively and still can't beat it yet. I quit doom for months before trying this level again, lol...that was after beating the other 3 episodes. I'm playing on console btw so that definitely makes this platformy level harder. That BFG through the wall glitch definitely is giving me hope though but it's crazy how many barons this crazy difficult level throws at you, it's so overwhelming.
Same, man. Playing on console (Slayer’s Collection) for the first time as well, and I knew this level was gonna be a bitch after I spawned in the first time and had enemies on me lol.
@@deficitstifflegzercherdeadlift I did eventually beat it. Probably died 50 times, but just keep perfecting your strategy Keep practicing, you'll beat it.
Holy hell, you're an expert at this map on the highest difficulty and I struggle on 'hurt me plenty', but then again it's my first time playing the map and I was lost at where to go. I'll have another go later today. I'm sure this episode will be a total killer.
You have to hit the exact correct spot, its just to the left of the crease between the last two wooden panels to the right. I had to actually clear the map of enemies and do a ton of practice attempts before I got it. Look also for a slightly blemished spot directly to the left of the crease I mentioned, and try to approach the spot at full speed slightly from the left.
No, and I'll tell you why. Clearing the map of enemies creates practice time in the interest of finding the sweet spot on the wall. After a few successful grabs, I played it normally.
Ok i was stuck on this mission for awhile now but now i remembered your channel and i said Big Mac Davis can help! So i came here and this vid had helped so much thank you! Cant wait to see your upcoming vids as well!
3:33 the wall you are directly facing at this very moment opens to an area with a switch that you can flip open to raise a platform between the starting pillar and orange pillar to prevent falling in the middle area
You know what this map needs? More tiny platforms that you can easily fall off into hazardous materials, little to no ground to dodge or any cover, less health and armor and ammo, and needs more enemies such as the barons of hell ESPECIALLY when you are on those platforms Since this map lacks any of those I easily give this map a score of 69 out of 420
Nice walkthrough, I could remeber where some stuff was replaying this recently and found your walkthrough. Very helpful. I kill all the Cacodemons in the beginning though. It’s a challenge!!
It's awesome, man! I tried to do as you from the start, so I tried more than hour, and even if I take bfg, so cacodemons came after me... So the easiest way for me wad to kill all enemies in the start room and after that follow your guide :) Usually I don't like walkthroughs and don't watch it, but yours so fun, so I really enjoy its! :)
Your guidance on each episode is fantastic, got killed about 50000 times when trying to get the BFG from by the green lantern, once that was retrieved it was fairly straight forward.
zachx224 I took my time and forgot to do the secret at the teleported to get the bfg.....the glitch one, I got it correctly at the end....also I'm playing on iOS
The BFG thing was very likely not intended by the devs & just feels like a cheap way out. It's more entertaining to just face the cacodemons as they come along. Pick up the items in frenzied motions to try and provoke infighting between the imps and pinkies & minimize the amount of projectiles coming at you, then lure the group of cacodemons into a scattered formation by switching places between the far right and far left of the map. Then use your shotgun and strategically prioritize your targets to make sure none of them gets too close to you.
I played the Switch version so there was no BFG in the wall when you first teleport. However, somehow one of the Barons teleported with me and he was unable to fire at me for some reason. He could hit the Cacos though and it ended up fighting most of them while I shot it in the back. That was bizarre.
There's a switch behind a wall in the alcove where the three barons live, on the raised walkway in the room to the left of the start. Pressing it raises up the gaps between the platforms in front of the start, which makes things much easier when you use the Orange key, especially if you're playing on an iPad like me and you can't strafe. Also, if you stay towards the right of the platform looking down onto the maze, you can kill the first baron pretty easily with a shotgun to save plasma.
I have a perfect hatred for this damn map! Honestly, I can't imagine how someone in the 90's without these walkthroughs managed to get past it. Every useful item has to be collected in such a precise way that I feel like the map was impossible back then and even now with walkthroughs and guides you can still fuck up on many parts... FUCK!
Yeah you’re right lol. Hoewever in the 90s written tips and walkthroughs circulated around, or you and your friends shared their findings and walkthroughs with each other. But yeah still harder than nowadays
Yes! New video! Thanks, i forget how to acess secret level but now i know. Thank you, my friend! You did this map pretty good, red tomatos couldnt stop you :)
I've been playing Doom since 1994 and I was never able to beat this map on Ultra Violence, pistol start... Until today! I watched your walkthrough and it definitely helped. I somehow forgot how to open the secret teleporter while i was playing, but no matter, i finished off the Cyberdemon the old fashioned way with the plasma rifle and rocket launcher. Thanks for the tips! I turn 40 in a few months and finally beat this damn map! On to E4M3!
Good going on that one mate! I have been at that level for about a week now trying to crack it but playing through Brutal Doom on Man and a half level but just not on target enough to crack it yet I like the pace of the map it is certainly not for lazy shooters!!!!! Keep up the good work I have watched all your Doom walkthroughs and I certainly believe that you are one of the best in that genre in my opinion.
The intensity of the description! The violence and pain inflicted! The easiness in which a map that took me countless hours to pass was pulverized! Yeah, that was cool :D
Lol, I know I got a bit lucky in a few places. It's one of those maps where you have to be quick in order to survive. And I'm not the best at being quick, lol. Thanks for watching. :)
I didn't realise you could get the BFG so early, didn't know about the secret exit either ... still you give great walkthroughs and you make it look so easy : )
Also thanks for like and featuring new video. I really appreciate it. Its what i need. And im working on new drawing called ''BigMacDavis1 vs Spiderdemon''
Unfortunatelly I didn't manage to get the BFG from that wall, tried many times but no way at all, so I had to go through "the world of hurt" LOL! Just got the weapon after telefragging the Cyberdemon. The good thing is that on the way they give you the beserk pack, the chainsaw and the plasma rifle, as well as many cell packs, so I could use all these weapons in balance to deal with the enemies (except for my bullets that gone already in the very beginning, LOL again).
Man am glad to hear you can't get the BFG too I'm playing on my Switch Lite game does seem to glitch a couple levels would have 100% every level only missed one level all thanks to our Doom God Big Mac Davis 🙏
Before the BFG grab was discovered this was by far the hardest map in Ultimate doom, at least now you can bfg everything away now. Still this is a great map, especially considering the very short space of time it took to make this map. The wiki says it took Romero just 6 hours non stop to make this map.
the BFG grab is 100% cheating / violating the rules of this map's design. Correct way: you must get the BFG from the cyberdemon, not grab it. I really want the glitch that you get the BFG early to be fixed. If it is solved, then you must play legit. It is still the hardest map not only of the episode but also in the whole entire first-person shooter game history.
Just played this map on Hurt Me Plenty and spawned in with barely any ammo. Took me a long time and many saves to finally beat it. The hardest level up to this point imo
I forgot you could kill the Cyberdemon that way 🤦♂️ after seeing it though I remember doing that as a kid. Wasted a whole lot of my health and ammo killing it this time around unfortunately
Yeah I cant stand videos like TheRadbrad where he says "walkthrough" then he stumbles his way through the game missing major stuff, and struggling with main mechanics of the game.
Yeah. It's hard to get the BFG because it requires running into the correct angle. Secret exit requires being quick enough to run into the area within 3 seconds of leaving the cyberdemon area.
Ahhh yes. I've been waiting for you to do this map. Hahaha. It takes quite a bit of skill even with the BFG to take this map on. Thank goodness for those tricks, the George Bell BFG Grab and the Stefen Winterfeldt jump. Without them, this one would be much harder.
And it supposed to be! Doom got a lot of dislikes and laughs from "You can just easily beat this map with the bfg grab hahaha" when the designer designed it that it is not supposed to play with the BFG grab, which not only saves you pain, but also violates the rules of this map. to BigMacDavis you do NOT suggest a cheat trick. That's violating the rules of how the designer designed this map to be played. You MUST get the BFG from the Cyberdemon, NOT the ledge. Being in a world of pain is the correct way to play this map. The way you did it is extremely cheaty.
@00:01:27 - Now I understand why I can't get the BFG from that area - I'm playing this on GZDoom and the BFG is in the secret area guarded by the Cyberdemon. It took so many rockets lol, but I finally got him and got the BFG (I'm playing the Ultra-Violence level in God mode, as I don't want to lose health again lol).
@@BigMacDavis And this is what I didn't know at all lol. Here I am, taking the hard way out to rocketing the Cyberdemon when the teleporter you've mentioned was right in front of me lol. This is why you're the Master of Doom Games 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Oh hell yes, I can't wait to see this Fear map! It's fucking balls to the wall action packed awesome. Great job on this map, by the way. That start can feel overwhelming, and I don't dare to think if it's even possible with the monsters sped up. D:
Well done. I could never actually work the sneak the BFG from the clutches of Mr. Stompy Cyberdemon trick. Regardless.... just well done on the walkthrough.
greate man! thank you! I just played this map... once... but as you said... I felt so much pain, I did not got the bfg, and I was taken by the damn specters and all barons of hell had killed me.
This map is easily the toughest in Ultimate Doom. Even following this strategy, you're near death or struggling to evade Barons until you get that BFG.
Great walkthrough. In the circular section with the 3 Barens emerge from the opened wall, there should be a switch that raises the floor in the previous main section.
Playing in some of the more modern source ports... you can't grab that BFG through the wall, and based on the map, you're not supposed to have it until you telefrag the Cyberdemon... it's a bug / exploit. Sad I couldn't make it work; it just made the map that much harder. Regardless, your walkthroughs are invaluable and I find myself coming back to them every time I get stuck. I really like the run & gun atmosphere of the early maps, and really hate levels like this that require both pinpoint strafe running, mazes, and knowledge / memorization of the map ahead of time to be able to really even beat it.
I owned a Doom strategy guide that said something like "You'll hear the roar of a Cyberdemon, but don't worry about him. He's easy to get rid of. No, seriously!"

The first two maps of Episode 4 are definitely VERY tricky. If you can get passed the first two maps you can get passed the episode.
How do you get the BFG from the wall? I've ran into it like over 50 times and nothing happens!
i know right. i had to telefrag the cyberdemon in order to find the bfg
I did it just like him n got it
You have to hit the exact correct spot, its just to the left of the crease between the last two wooden panels to the right. I had to actually clear the map of enemies and do a ton of practice attempts before I got it. Look also for a slightly blemished spot directly to the left of the crease I mentioned, and try to approach the spot at full speed slightly from the left.
Clearing the map of enemies and then getting it sort of defeats the entire purpose don't you think?
No, and I'll tell you why. Clearing the map of enemies creates practice time in the interest of finding the sweet spot on the wall. After a few successful grabs, I played it normally.
Ok i was stuck on this mission for awhile now but now i remembered your channel and i said Big Mac Davis can help! So i came here and this vid had helped so much thank you! Cant wait to see your upcoming vids as well!
Awesome! I'm glad this video was able to help you! :)
Haha 5:56, "fuck you". Makes me laugh to hear you say that with that radio announcer voice.
Wasn't expecting so many Barons or a goddamn Cyberdemon lol. These guides are really helpful as well.
Big thanks for this guide, man...this is my first time actually trying to play through this episode.
3:33 the wall you are directly facing at this very moment opens to an area with a switch that you can flip open to raise a platform between the starting pillar and orange pillar to prevent falling in the middle area
Thanks. I've known this after I made the walkthrough.
@@BigMacDavis oh I see, my pleasure! ❤️
I never heard BigMacDavis curse before until now lol
You know what this map needs? More tiny platforms that you can easily fall off into hazardous materials, little to no ground to dodge or any cover, less health and armor and ammo, and needs more enemies such as the barons of hell ESPECIALLY when you are on those platforms
Since this map lacks any of those I easily give this map a score of 69 out of 420
Nice walkthrough, I could remeber where some stuff was replaying this recently and found your walkthrough. Very helpful.
I kill all the Cacodemons in the beginning though. It’s a challenge!!
They can easily gang up on you, yes.
Looking for some pointers and came across this video, so funny. Subscribed, looking forward to watching more
5:56 'FUCK YOU!" omg, that was so fucking funny
It's awesome, man!
I tried to do as you from the start, so I tried more than hour, and even if I take bfg, so cacodemons came after me...
So the easiest way for me wad to kill all enemies in the start room and after that follow your guide :)
Usually I don't like walkthroughs and don't watch it, but yours so fun, so I really enjoy its! :)
1:30 can confirm had no idea that existed and i had the worst time imaginable
"if you do get injured ... fuck you." I bet that was what Romero was thinking while designing this level.
Your guidance on each episode is fantastic, got killed about 50000 times when trying to get the BFG from by the green lantern, once that was retrieved it was fairly straight forward.
I take my time. The only hard part is the beginning after that, it's easy.
I agree. I find E4M1 harder than this. The start of E4M2 is the tricky part.
zachx224 Without a walkthrough, this is very cryptic... E4M1 is very straightforward.
+BigMacDavis I didn't know about that bug/glitch and got the BFG after I killed EVERYTHING, so it was pretty tough lol
zachx224 I took my time and forgot to do the secret at the teleported to get the bfg.....the glitch one, I got it correctly at the end....also I'm playing on iOS
@@gabrieleriva651 You have to be really careful though due to lack of medkits and ammo
John Romero hates the fans with a perfect hatred. He developed this nightmare.
Agreed. The BFG Grab is just random bullshit. It's a bug for cheating.
It's ok just pretend they put the bfg in an unaccesable area instead of where the cyberdemon is and you'll feel less bad
I played the Switch version so there was no BFG in the wall when you first teleport. However, somehow one of the Barons teleported with me and he was unable to fire at me for some reason. He could hit the Cacos though and it ended up fighting most of them while I shot it in the back. That was bizarre.
I found it there on the switch.
Played doom on xbox no bfg
I didn't find it on the Switch, but I'm on Hurt Me Plenty
It's in the Switch version you have to be in the correct spot
There's a switch behind a wall in the alcove where the three barons live, on the raised walkway in the room to the left of the start. Pressing it raises up the gaps between the platforms in front of the start, which makes things much easier when you use the Orange key, especially if you're playing on an iPad like me and you can't strafe. Also, if you stay towards the right of the platform looking down onto the maze, you can kill the first baron pretty easily with a shotgun to save plasma.
why the hell were you playing it on ipad?
I have a perfect hatred for this damn map! Honestly, I can't imagine how someone in the 90's without these walkthroughs managed to get past it. Every useful item has to be collected in such a precise way that I feel like the map was impossible back then and even now with walkthroughs and guides you can still fuck up on many parts... FUCK!
The Saggi it's not so bad... on hurt me plenty anyway. I'm only here for the secrets haha
Yeah you’re right lol. Hoewever in the 90s written tips and walkthroughs circulated around, or you and your friends shared their findings and walkthroughs with each other. But yeah still harder than nowadays
5:56 - You said it so kindly :P
"If you do get injured, fuck you!" Lol
Yes! New video! Thanks, i forget how to acess secret level but now i know. Thank you, my friend! You did this map pretty good, red tomatos couldnt stop you :)
You have a very good delivery to accompany your gameplay
I've been playing Doom since 1994 and I was never able to beat this map on Ultra Violence, pistol start... Until today! I watched your walkthrough and it definitely helped. I somehow forgot how to open the secret teleporter while i was playing, but no matter, i finished off the Cyberdemon the old fashioned way with the plasma rifle and rocket launcher. Thanks for the tips! I turn 40 in a few months and finally beat this damn map! On to E4M3!
Awesome!!! Yeah, this map is no joke! I remember doing this video and going crazy trying to do strategies in practice runs. So difficult.
These walkthroughs may give me a slight chance of beating Ep 4 so thnx
These walk-throughs are awesome
Good going on that one mate!
I have been at that level for about a week now trying to crack it but playing through Brutal Doom on Man and a half level but just not on target enough to crack it yet
I like the pace of the map it is certainly not for lazy shooters!!!!!
Keep up the good work I have watched all your Doom walkthroughs and I certainly believe that you are one of the best in that genre in my opinion.
That hidden BFG trick is pretty cool. Thanks
Are you describing as you play? Either way your commentary is great. How the hell did you discover that BFG 9000??? :)
Yeah, I record my voice while I play. I found the BFG through other videos. :)
very impressive! do you plan on making a walkthrough for No Rest for the living? Pretty insane difficulty thinks I...
I didn't realise you could get the BFG so early, didn't know about the secret exit either ... still you give great walkthroughs and you make it look so easy : )
Getting the BFG early is cheating. You cannot prove this map is easier than E4M1 when it is harder than E4M1.

"if you do get injured, fuck you."
You are an excellent gamer! My hat is off to you sir \m/.
Even in ITYTD, this level is hard
Also thanks for like and featuring new video. I really appreciate it. Its what i need. And im working on new drawing called ''BigMacDavis1 vs Spiderdemon''
Insane! Nice video, Greting from Peru!
Omg Thank you! This was extremely helpful!
I've watched this several times and I'm pissed off at this map ugh !!!!!!
This proves Perfect Hatred is a superb name for this map.
Good video. I learned so much that I can use when playing this map on my Xbox One. Liked
This was a nightmare before I watched your vid bro thank you
Before the BFG grab was discovered this was by far the hardest map in Ultimate doom, at least now you can bfg everything away now.
This is what it really means to make a walkthrough.
Yeah I cant stand videos like TheRadbrad where he says "walkthrough" then he stumbles his way through the game missing major stuff, and struggling with main mechanics of the game.
Whoa. In all my 20+ years of playing Doom, I never knew about the BFG location OR the secret exit.
You can telefrag the Cyberdemon using the teleporter at 7:15.
@@BigMacDavis And this is what I didn't know at all lol. Here I am, taking the hard way out to rocketing the Cyberdemon when the teleporter you've mentioned was right in front of me lol. This is why you're the Master of Doom Games 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
a world of HURT, PAIN, ANGUISH and SUFFERING !!!! hahahahahahahahaha
Any tips on making the jump at 0:55 I'm really struggling sorry 😞
Thanks for the video. I'm having trouble with this one. I didn't realize you could get a BFG at the start. I'll have to try that.
This map is easily the toughest in Ultimate Doom. Even following this strategy, you're near death or struggling to evade Barons until you get that BFG.
I can confirm the BFG grab works on the PS3 version.
before I started using the BFG-grab trick, I always telefragged the Cyberdemon to get it
I had no idea about that BFG trick by the way. Very interesting, definitely halves the difficulty and saves a lot of time too.
Great walkthrough. In the circular section with the 3 Barens emerge from the opened wall, there should be a switch that raises the floor in the previous main section.
Yeah, I forgot to show that off.
BigMacDavis/ It's only out of complete respect that I pointed it out.
I couldn't get on thst platform then I realized all this time after 4 chapters there is a sprint button
Thank you so much man that bfg helped
Another great video with fear, pain, anguish and suffering! That's what U all get in Thy Flesh Consumed!!!
I have a PERFECT HATRED for this map
First time I played I got so pissed. Missed the BFG, was low on health and ammo from mission 1, and kept getting spawn killed.
