      @@dar44445 I'm sure you don't understand neither about dance nor figure skating. I practiced ballet for many years and watch figure skating since I was a kid.
      So, I know - independent of gold medal - how rare is Yuzuru's talent.
      I know it. And - as I understand about dance - how Nathan's moves are bad. Yuma is better than him.

    Yuzuru is a real genius... I remember in one program which he accidentally jumped a 'wrong' jump, so he re-worked his program on the go while make sure there was not a repeated jump, he calculated his own final score to make sure get gold medal. Personally, I definitely think Yuzu deserves that no 1 spot, because he truly has a rare way of thinking that makes me in awe every time he speaks. Whenever he answers his interviews, his answers are always so eloquent, like you don’t really expect anyone to be able to produce that kind of quality answer in such a short amount of time. So I really believe that Yuzu, not only has a high IQ, but also has a EQ and that makes him stand out

    I was watching the games yesterday and obviously he has won everything and he has done the unthinkable. He could have won with all the jumps everyone does. He doesn't like the comfort zone. To me, what he tried to do yesterday shows about how winning is not always the most important. He wasn't competing vs Chang, he was competing against himself. Such a legend.

    I just want to say that Yuzu created that program that calculates scores before he started training in TCC (2012) so he was probably around 16 or 17 years old. He updates it each time ISU makes changes to the scoring sytem. ☺️

    I think the world has evolved to realize that intelligence isn't simply being good at math. Yuzu is a genius because he's a rare combination of high IQ and EQ which very few people exhibit. I've noticed that a lot of athletes rehearse standard answers for press conferences (given how tired they are after competing, I don't blame them) but Yuzu is able to answer any question with a quickness and profundity that constantly impresses me. He really lives and breathes skating, and in the few glimpses of his interviews you can always tell he's thinking miles ahead of how to push the boundaries of his own capability. Sometimes his ideas or goals seem crazy but I've come to accept that his mind just operates in another realm and one can never underestimate it. Maybe that's why Mishin calls him an "inhabitant of heaven".

And these awesome skaters are the little skaters role models! My daughter was accepted to Brown in the same year as Vincent but she went to a different university. Yale put her on waitlist and later turned her down. I’m not surprised that Nathan went to Yale, because its Ingalls ice arena is the best rink among all the top universities in USA. Personally and honestly I don't want anybody to compare Yuzuru with other skaters based on "family wealth and education level"....... Simply because Yuzuru's family is never in the class of "wealthy family".. And to you guys, what matters is the wealth, is that what you are talking about? And don't you know this fact? Yuzuru started taking notes of "quantifying" jumps, spins, steps, in numbers when he went to Toronto, much earlier that he went to Waseda. He has already demonstrated his genius brain by using numbers and computer graphic movement of a body on the ice to analyze his skating technique. He is really a true genius with natural intelligence in the human body science.

      ...not sure what you're going on and on about? Having educated parents does not necessarily mean these athletes were born into rich families or that they were privileged. Many of the families worked hard and had to make a lot of sacrifices. For example, Nathan did not grow up with much. They were poor when his family first came to the US. His father was still going to school and his mom was trying to work to provide for 5 children. And there are stories told by Raf Arutyunyan about Nathan and his mom sleeping in their car because they didn't have money to stay at hotels when they would drive from Utah down to Cali for his trainings. There was a point when Raf stopped take money from Nathan's family because he knew about their money situation. You're so focused on trying to elevate one athlete above the rest that I don't think you're looking at this objectively. You don't know about their lives or their hardships. Pls don't assume things about these athletes.

Different organizations and clubs are willing to help support/pay for your activities if money is an issue, especially if you're a child with special talents. I'm sure the family also made some personal sacrifices. And Raf specifically pointed out that Nathan's family didn't have the money to pay him but has since paid back every penny he was owed. It's clear English. If you're still probing for another way to interpret his words, you have an issue...and an agenda.

      @@divinearia1601 being penniless while sending your kid to the former coach of michelle kwan, mao asada and other former world medalists? I can acknowledge that Natty's family went through financial hardships in the beginning but privilege isn't just tied up to monetary liquidity. Having the oPpOrTuNiTy to grow up in amerikkka with ivy league unis, speaking a language that makes you instantly accessible to most of the world, strong minority reputation in his country and sport, parents working in the medical field etc. are some advantages conferred to him that determine the success he's had today. The boy may be good at juggling his time between activities, had some personal hardships, but literally every successful skater has to go through that too. Mana Kawabe had to crowdfund custom boots, Donovan Carillo had to train in a rink at the mall, Bruno Massot also slept in a car while waiting for french fed to release him to Germany. So many intangible social resources you can tap on if you are in Nate's position. You said it yourself. America is the land of opportunities. Where he's at now is mostly just a byproduct of his environment.

      @@treelo11...just a byproduct of his environment...lol. I'm pretty sure you're not naive enough to really think that every American can be a Nathan Chen, right? The opportunities are there, but you have to have the "it" factor in you in order to be successful. It's absurd some of you would stoop so low as to try to discredit the obvious natural intelligence and talents of someone just because you're so desperate to boost your favorite. And Yuzuru is so poor and helpless and managed all his accomplishments on his own without any money, any opportunity, or any assistance from anyone else, right, liar? Are you going to tell me how Yuzuru paid for all his skating lessons since he was a toddler? Surely he had assistance from someone, somewhere. And if he was fortunate enough to have these opportunities, I guess that makes him just a byproduct of his environment too, right? Some of you are truly disgusting human beings. Seriously. My point was that Nathan didn't grow up with much and his family wasn't wealthy. The OP wrongly made that assumption and I was just correcting them. Nathan has said that his family was poor. His coach said the same. It's a fact.

      @FigureSkatingFan  2 роки тому +9

      Actually Ivy League is an association and only refer to that 8 universities (not including Stanford nor MIT) - read more: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivy_League
      Most people used the term wrongly. I think what you meant was Good / Top Universities. Obviously not just in the west. Even those rankings like QS and times higher education ranking are served only as the references and there are ways universities used to manipulate those results to boost their ranking.
      But yes Waseda Uni is well known in the academic world. Most Japanese universities suffered in their world ranking because of a few issues like the language, the lack of foreign students exposure / ratio etc, lack of foreign professors / research fellows ratio etc, which happened to be some important metrics used by the top universities ranking. But the research abilities for Japan uni like Tokyo / Waseda etc are well known in the academic world.

She stands out against the other athletes with her beautiful speech and the ability to express her thoughts clearly (even journalists notice that and compliment her). This is another reason why Anna is so loved in Russia❤ we call her the "Turgenev girl" (it's a character from the Russian classic literature of the 19th century: a sensitive nature, pure, modest, wise, intelligent, with a deep inner world, but at the same time very strong and resolute).
