What I find so fascinating is that his popularity grew more and more in the years where he is no longer winning all the competitions. This really brings home that it is not earning the highest score that continues to grow his fanbase, but that he is admired for so many other qualities above whatever scores the judges decide to give out.
Like Hanyu mentioned, winning the gold medals was just the starting point, to pave the path for him to achieve something great! Can't wait for his new motivation and journey next!!!

Yuzu has been under scored during last 4 years while his competitors are over scored. ISU doesn’t want the scandal between Yuna and Adelina in Sochi happen again so they changed the rules to stop Yuzu.

Yuzuru doesn't need to decorate himself to be loved. His skating performance itself has a magnetic appeal, because his skating is a human drama, a human cry, s human love, and a human life. He throws all of his soul and heart into his program, which moves and hits the hearts of all they audiences. If there is anybody who isn't moved by the beauty of his program and the soft yet technically difficult skating of Yuzuru, he or she doesn't have a heart that appreciates the human life. Yuzuru doesn't need to say anything to appeal to the audiences, except only by skating on the ice. He skates to show human emotions that connect all of audiences hearts.
Some people will argue that the meaning of the term GOAT is a summary of a humans’ technical achievement… the best of the best if you will. To me, GOAT means so much more than that. The greatest of all time is somebody who is willing to conquer all barriers, to stand in the face of adversity and not let it beat them down, to maintain humility and an understanding of their place in both their field of endeavor and in the world. Somebody who can challenge, achieve and accomplish, yet still maintain admiration and respect for their fellows and encourage them also to keep striving. This is the reason why Yuzuru Hanyu is the GOAT - because he is all this and still so much more.
It was heartbreaking to see him getting a white towel thrown at his head. He was definitely hurt but that made him stronger in the competition than ever. Never stopped admiring him.

I am a new fan from China. I like him not only because of his challanging spirit and wonderful performance, but also because of his personality. After his sp, he told journalists that ice hole was just bad luck, the ice rink was perfect. That interview really surprised me, because he is so considerate and kind to other people even in his bad day.
If I was in the same situation I think I would've gone mad and complained like a spoiled child, but he handled it so diplomatically. It's almost unreal!
it still fascinates me so much to see how he keeps becoming more and more popular throughout the years despite the fact that figure skating is not a mainstream sport, also he doesn't even have a management company and doesn't use any sns to promote himself, truly the greatest of all time

@@lw4362 It's funny, for me it was the same. First I discovered NC, after Yuzuru and now I am no longer able to watch NC's skating but I watch Yuzuru's programmes over and over again.

If we add Japanese and Chinese-speaking media, the gap is even more mind boggling. His Chinese Weibo super-talk has been consistently first in Sports since February. Even now he is firmly first above Chinese stars like Eileen Gu and the new Oly champions Sui / Han.
Obviously his many envious antis try to belittle this popularity by saying that it is due to Yuzu's kpop idol look or the success of Yuri on Ice. As if in the world there were no other good-looking artists much more active than him on social media, or as if the other skaters, both Asian and Western, were all ugly (they aren't, hot guys are many among skaters...). There are many handsome boys in the world, but none skates like Yuzuru, with his magnetic charisma and his devotion to every aspect of the sport.
I've never watched figure skating in my whole life and don't know anything about it since UA-cam suggested me seimei Olympic and i immediately fall for him and started to watch all his programmes and being a fan of figure skating. It's something that only yuzuru hanyu could do . I believe it's his gift ❤🌹
So glad to have you joining into this fandom! Discovering figure skating is also the best thing that happened to me. For me I searched for figure skating on UA-cam many years ago while joining some skating sessions with friends. Then UA-cam recommended me more and more content. I was always a casual fan who simply watched during the Grand Prix seasons and world championships (But mostly just ladies). But started from Yuzuru's Seimei program, I got more and more interested in men's skating, and there's almost no day passing by without watching some sort of Yuzuru content haha 😆

I've been the athletic type and a super fan of sports that I enjoy and follow almost all Olympic games. It never occurred to me or even bat an eye to figure skating despite Kim Yuna's popularity because our country do not have winter season. But one time, while scrolling the Olympic UA-cam channel to watch some replays, I tried playing this "Yuzuru Hanyu" performance and there and then... I would have never known how beautiful figure skating is until watching such beautiful, amazing, awesome, sophisticated performance of a guy full of passion for art. From then on, I waited for his performance in 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and despite the fact that he did not win a medal, I felt even more proud of him. He is the epitome of hard work, talent, charisma and every good thing on earth God could offer. At this time, he is still the only male figure skater that had me cry because of the explosion of emotions I felt while watching him on screen. I wish he be the first to land 4A!!!!!

If I have to choose a sole person I could admire while forgetting the rest, absolutely I'll choose Yuzu. He's this particular someone in my life who taught me many things. He is my life adviser who guided me back on track when I felt lost, a friend who comforted me when I'm so down and in sorrow, an idol who inspires me to take a step out of my comfort zone and to shine the brightest I can ever be despite all the obstacles along the way. He's the epitome of "born-to-be a star", with his power to hook and inspire everyone to anything he does. Yuzuru will forever be remembered by us who supported and seen his growth through the years.

I'll tell my perspective, as an Australian. I discovered him on UA-cam a couple of years ago and was amazed by his skating. Watched the Olympics videos on repeat for a while, intrigued by the Pooh rains. Moved on.
Then a couple days before Beijing, I saw his name trending on Twitter. Everyone was asking where he was, when he was going to show up. I was like "Oh! The Pooh skater!" and decided to follow his Olympic journey. Man, what a rollercoaster. It was incredible to see the outpouring of support from online communities, fans from all over the world coming together out of love for him. The anxiety of watching him skate live on TV for the first time, the heartache of seeing him in pain... It was an emotional week. The gala practice videos are what really captured me for good. I'd never seen skating like that. During that week I also discovered some classic videos like WC17 H&L, FAOI Masquerade, R&J12 etc, and was astonished at how much a figure skater could make me cry. I was absorbed in every way. I'm still absorbed in every way lmao. I fear I'll be this guy's fan for life
He is the GOAT and most importantly a great man, his life journey touch so many hearts including mine, il always cheer for Yuzuru Hanyu hope his dream 4A come true, He already the only male skater who took both “super slam” and “career grand slam” but i wish him to win 2023 sydney 4CC for additional “double career grand slam” title

I liked Yuna Kim years ago and then Yuzuru, after Yuzu’s retirement I won’t give a glance at figure skating.
What I enjoy is the combination of tech and art, not just jumping.
Yuzuru is born to be a legendary of the figure skating. Yuzuru is always truthful to himself. No need to decorate himself with fancy words or arrogant exaggeration, but his skating demonstrates his true personality, which attracts human hearts because of the truthfulness of his soul and hearts. In addition, he has technicality and a perfect body mechanism to exhibit a theatrical beauty and elegance even in difficult jumps. "Yuzuru is born to be a legendary of the figure skating"
I came back to this video after Beijing, because I needed to remind myself why I and millions of fanyus everywhere love Yuzuru so much. He has always been more than a talented skater...he has an indefinable quality that raises him above all others.....a gentleness of soul, a humility and purity of heart and a courage and perseverance that touches our very core. He is not just a superstar, he is an incredibly sensitive, creative artist whose beautiful programs entertain, inspire and amaze us and never disappoint. Even if I were asked which moment, I would not be able to choose. The accumulation of many moments has nurtured the miracle figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu. His appearance as if he was born for figure skating, his clear face, his clear mind, and his high charisma.
That alone is enough, but he never rest on his laurel. On the contrary, he continues to strive forward more than any other athlete, and no one can catch up with him. He has a self that money and power can never move. He will never go astray. Yuzuru Hanyu is a human being who lacks nothing. He is full of beauty and compassion in both mind and body.

Everytime I watch something discussing yuzuru is such light I can't help but feel, there really can't be another like him. Yes in the coming decades this sport may change in many ways (might even be unrecognisable considering what's happening lmao) and new skaters who are really good will come. But I don't really think there will be another Hanyu Yuzuru ever.

This is the mean reasons why i do really love Yuzuru Hanyu. I don't have any interest in skating before and it just I accidentally saw one of his performances in some clips while scrolling videos. In that video, I can't explain how I feel, I felt that I was drawn and immersed by him and he inspired me in his personality. I didn't even know at that time that he is olympic champion. Its like the way he perform he carries and he let his audience ride with him and that makes you feel how good it is to be wearing shoe-blades in the ice and let it flow your emotions.
One of the best things in my life might be living to see and anticipate Yuzuru Hanyu's performances. With this, I hope the future gens understand just why we put YH in such high pedestal.
Hanyu puts more play, fun and entertainment in figure skating. He masters this sport and use his insane technique to achieve the program with a sense of game, dramatic like an animation or manga, and at the same time to keep it still as a competition.

Haha yeah in the subtitles of the video, you can find many languages too. All these languages were added in request by comments from previous videos. I remember the first time we saw some Vietnamese / Arabic comments asking us if possible to add subtitles in that languages? We were so surprised. There's once when we made a video about Hanyu's thesis, someone emailed us saying they are a group fo Hanyu fans in Turkey. They offered to add the Turkish subtitles for us in that video. We sent over the script and in a few hours they sent us back the translated version. So cool haha 😀 Do share it with more and more people if you can! Hopefully more and more people discover this incredible human being 💓

How did he do it? Becoming popular is due to his HARD WORK and efforts which made him BRILLIANT at what he does.
I love Yuzuru attitude to skating... professional, detailed and passion.
His style is unique and he knows it... he has carisma..

Yuzuru Hanyu is the best skater. He made me fall in love with male ice skating and his native country, Japan. I follow it since 2010 when I discovered after the Olympics (where I watched a Yuna Kim my favorite femele skater ) on UA-cam. He combines technique with interpretation in a magnificent way. So far I have not seen this at any other skater. Even in Nathan, Shoma and Yuma see the technical part more than the artistic one. On ice he makes a show with one/ two jumps (eg Notre Stella, Haru yo Koi) while the others uses more jumps. He is very elegant, refined, sophisticated, special and a man who conveys much kindness and joy.
One of my dreams is to see Yuzuru skating live. I hope to see him in the 2023 / 2024 season and at the Olympic Games in Turin. I hope to be healthy and to enjoy as much as possible with his skating. Without him the skating will become a bit boring. He has more fan in Romania .
I hope life only brings nice things to Yuzu. It's great to see when good things happen to good people and Yuzu is such a beautiful atlethe and human being! I wish him only the best, I hope that he only knows happiness for the rest of his life

Yuzuru's love and respect for Shoma and Yuma comes from the treatment he got from his Seniors i guess and he doesn't wanna make his juniors feel the way he felt. Also Javi's acceptance of Yuzu as a training mate and competing but cheering for each other at the same time had a big impact on their lives, made them better sportsmen.

Super thank you for this documentary. I’ve been getting to know more about Yuzuru Hanyu ever since Beijing Olympics. Got to know about him during Sochi Olympics but I was just a casual fan. But ever since Beijing, I just wanted to know about him more. I like his mindset that he doesn’t think that he is a champion but always a challenger and how he views challenges in his everyday life.
He doesn’t have a perfect winning streak, but he’s always very gracious in defeat. He gets up and ready for another challenge everytime someone beats him. I think that is truly what makes him a true champion in people’s hearts. ❤
He’s a very good skater and a true artist. But what makes him special aside from his achievements is his personality and mindset. He’s a true inspiration. ❤
Thank you for making this video. More people need to know how influential and legendary this man is. He has done so much for figure skating, and watching his figure skating always heals something in me.

Yuzuru was the first person who brought me into figure skating because of beauty of his performance. Art is universal language. It passes through all barriers of different languages, ethnics, nations. Even anyone without any knowledge about this sport are united to be in the same area, by the same "language": the beauty of his programs.
Thank you for making this video, I am in tears after listening to Hanyu's words, How can he say those deep , profound words when he is so young? What a remarkable young man, so wise.
Thank you for this video. For me, his honesty toward the sport he chose to invest his life to is something I admire a lot, even if the judging system is biased, he never chose the easy path to keep winning. Yuzu kept challenging and doing programs with high quality composition, even if judges doesn't reward him and reward others with more points for empty programs to make them win over him. That's something so valuable for me. But my story being a fan of his skating was with his 2012 R&J performance in Nice ❤️ that I casually watched on youtube in 2015, since then I keep following him and went to like 12 competitions just to see him performs. I hope I can see him performing again live soon.

Unmatched talent and outstanning performer, of course, but also passion, grit, the way he faces adversity, integrity (he doesn't sell off his sport for a medal). Also an extraordinary ability to communicate his thoughts and emotions, honestly I can't think of another sportsman capable of doing it like him.
