"It is not about beating others, but about surpassing yourself" - Yuzuru Hanyu This is the best era of skaters, where there are skaters with a good competitive spirit, who teach us the true sport.
Hope everyone, not just athletes, understand that success comes from self improvement, it's never about crushing others so that you can shine better. It's about how to shine brilliantly in your own light.
I've been paying attention to skating since the 80s and honestly the current and most recent crop of skaters are head and shoulders more mature and dignified than those who were skating in decades past the vast majority of the time. It's so good to see them support each other.
Not only is Yuzu the GOAT of FS, but he is also classy and respectful towards his rivals. Even after winning two Olympic golds, 4 GPFs, 2 Worlds, and the grand slam, he is still working hard for progress. I wish him good health and that his 4A goal will be achieved!
@Itzel Ramirez Hi, 4A is Quad Axel. It's 4.5 Rotations in the air. The only quad not yet landed by anyone. This is Yuzu's new challenge. We had a documentary about it. Take a look here: ua-cam.com/video/kppVhTOXybk/v-deo.html 😀
The most difficult jump in figure skating. You have to do 4,5 rotations in the air. For doing this you need a long and high jump. And then you have all the energy, which is coming out of that jump, to balance out and land it and go on with skating. It is the only jump starting forward. I'am not a figure skating specialist, but if you are you good in physics, you can imagine, how difficult this jump is. And lots of others too.@@itzelramirez4801
Yuzuru is not only a damn good skater but also a man of dignity. He is a true champion through and through! Our world would be much better place if we have more people like him.
Yes! I hope that there arent toxic fans that will hate on others to show love for yuzu. All skaters are great at their own things. But yuzu does have a different spark to him
I hppe that fans can also show good sportsmanship and not hate on others to love another. Love to all skaters who do their very best! I hope nathan (chen) and yuzu’s fandoms can stay as healthy as possible. From a devoted fanyu ❤
Yuzuru is very special, not only for his skating talent, but also for his talent to win people's hearts , doing small gestures like hagging his opponents, applauding their routines, being respectful with the ones who beat him ... ( and, honestly, I have never seen a Japanese sportman expressing himself so much in public, except for Yuzuru... wich is, in itself, an amazing thing) and I hope his lessons of spotmanship will always be remembered, both by the future skaters and the public.
This video made me realise how Yuzuru Hanyu changed figure skating, not only because he pushed the sport but also because he showed what a good sportsmanship is. I remember the video how he won 2012 JN and fans of other senior skater were unfriendly to him. How sad and young was he there, and then he became a hero and a star and everybody cheers for him, and he never became arrogant, he supports all the skaters and helps younger ones feel more welcome!
Nancy was a grown woman, while Oksana was a little a little 16 year old girl, an orphan who lost her mother 3 years before Olympic. She haved kind of difficult life, skated with approved anesthetic and still managed to bypass the bronze medalist of the last Olympics Nancy Kerrigan and become her country's first Olympic gold medalist. She made it, no matter what. Of course, she was crying, who wouldn't? To see such an attitude of Nancy towards Oksana was simply sad. I remember Kamilla Valieva, who was upset when she realized that she had lost to Anna Shcherbakova, but immediately started clapping to Anna with a smile. She was sincerely happy for Anna. And unlike the adult Nancy, Kamila is a little girl, but she was the one who showed what class is. The same with Medvedeva and Hanyu. They were saddened by the loss of gold, but they still treated the winners well. The ability to lose with dignity is not within the power of everyone. If you can't be genuinely happy for your competitor, at least don't act like an asshole.
Yes yes so true. No one can be genuinely happy for losing the gold if they are in the running position for that. So cheering for the winner even when you lost the gold is a real class act. And as u pointed out, kamila, zhenya, Yuzu were all really good example for that.
Nancy was cheated though. Oksana messed up two of her triples with the wrong edge. Judges claimed they didn't see it but she hadn't been doing a proper Lutz all week in practice.
I think Yuzuru is very sincere about his passion for figure skating, he has such genuine reactions not only to his own performance but to others as well because he's a fan as much as he's a competitor
Wow this theory is so refreshing to hear!! Yes yes now that you mention it, it's true. He's not just a competitor. He's also a fan of the sport himself. Hence he could put his ego out of the picture when he watches his competitors skate and cheer when they have a good skate, felt bad when they don't. Exactly the same reaction like a fan..
Yuzuru is an artist and an athlete so he recognizes and appreciates a job well done. He understands all the hard work that these athletes go through so he can empathize when someone is having a bad day. Yuzuru is also a genuinely good person. For a Japanese person, he is really openly affectionate which is so endearing. How can one not love Yuzuru?
Upon watching this documentary, I finally realize one thing - I live in the best Figure Skating era. If I were to start watching figure skating in 1990s or early 2000s, I guess I wouldn't watch this sport at all. How much this sport has changed really?! I saw some videos titled "Remember the good old days", but what good old days are there to remember??! The best ones are happening now with the current generation of figure skaters! Really hope Hanyu Yuzuru to stay healthy and not retire soon! Now I understand how much he and the skaters in his generation have changed the sport! Really love it..
While I agree with the general sentiment, I think it’s also very important to respect the great athletes, coaches and professionals who were there before us! None of the current crowd favorites would be here without them. This video is entertaining and well done, but unfortunately it’s also very one-sided and biased. I happen to speak Russian fluently and could hear things Medvedeva said about Zagitova at the the Olympics... It was not nice at all! And the whole drama with Eteri is quite ugly as well. This video makes it seem like it was all bad back then and is all good now. It’s not so straight forward.
@@kadovax6567 I started watching after Yuna Kim + Mao Asada era. Even then it was still quite.. intense. And I stopped watching for awhile because of the drama too. Just started watching more regularly after Yuzuru and Evgenia era post GPF 2015 :P
@@brunoandfae Maybe.. But what did Medvedeva said about Zagitova? I read those Russian news too and I know Eteri tried implicating that Medvedeva questioned her why Zagitova couldn't be held as junior for 1 more year. But those moments were never recorded and Medvedeva said she couldn't recall herself saying. Even if she did, it's a momentary outburst which all human would have. The video gave me an impression that they said Medvedeva was able to compose herself in front of public and show the right sportsmanship in front of audience though she is secretly jealous of her junior's achievement (I think they added some sentence in the subtitles to explain that point), while not perfect, but she is only human. But Yuzuru Hanyu is the real athlete who display his sportsmanship on and off the camera. I don't think the video is biased at all. It does seem to me that way. Sure thanks to the coaches. But what coaches can't teach is the real attitude and sportsmanship right? It's largely theirs. I remember Yuna Kim also trained under B.O. She was a good friend with Mao Asada and she just started alienating herself from Mao after the media hype up between Korean vs Japanese rivalry. Whereas look at Hanyu, he didn't alienating himself from Nathan after the US media hype up for Nathan to be the favorite Olympic Champion during Pyeongchang 2018. Also, I could see the young generation like 3As also being respectful of each others. And in the interview, Sasha credited Zhenya for that. She said that when she's junior, Zhenya would ask the other skaters to clear the path for her to do the quads in front of audience post Gala in European Championship 2017. So for the Russians, maybe secretly they have intense rivalry, but in front of audience they are always nice and those moments can't lie right?
a friendship i’ll always admire is yuzuru hanyu and javier fernandez!! how they can be so close, but also total rivals! goes to prove evgenia’s point of what happens on the ice stays on the ice!
@@sofiha01 Wait what do you mean?? Did something happen? Sorry I haven’t been keeping up with figure skating so I’m not sure, I would appreciate it if you could explain to me ?
Yuzuru is one of those athletes who cares about the sport, not just his own medals. He’s confident in his skills and doesn’t feel the need to drag down others. He’s humble when he wins and gracious when he loses. Really respect him.
Nathan Chen is always such a good sportsman! Always humble, always congratulating his opponents. That was so cute when he called Yuzu the G.O.A.T.! That's the sportsmanship we like to see!
Yes we really love Nathan for that! Yuzu & Nathan rivalry is the best rivalry we had ever seen in this sport. Equally talented, equally humble, equally respectful to each others, yet so different in skating styles. Wish more fans will start appreciating both of them 💕
@@FigureSkatingFan But what is bad and has been only worse is that ISU and their judges not show sportmanship when thy're hard working to "kill" Yuzu and bully him with too shocking low scores and favorise Nathan to scores he has not earned! Everyone knows it ,everyone are as afraid to talking about it openly! It's not skater's problem when sports management are so heavily biased/ bribered! Skaters are nice and I like them all. Therefore you need to talk about it too. There is nothing to be silent about when an athlete is so badly bullied by his own sport organization. ISU and the judges really raise questions? Is it racism, bribery or pure hatred against one athlete that makes them act so criminally? Perhaps you had no knowledge about it but now you know it and should do some research into the matter because it is so serious and has only gotten worse!
@@tessmargauxhelen3035 I haven’t remembered every single hanyu skate, but I can assure you he does not skate perfectly every time, especially on free skates. Maybe the isu drops some points, it would not fill up, say, a 5 point gap. The skates he doesn’t win, h just simply skated worse, or doesn’t get enough technical points.
@@tessmargauxhelen3035...Nathan got scores he did not deserve? Whatever, Fanyu. That's toxic talk right there. It's because of crap like that that the fans are always at war. Everyone's afraid to talk about it openly? What are you even saying because that's, like, the only thing Fanyus ever talk about. Yuzuru just won the ISU's most valuable skater award last year(2020). The ISU is not out to "kill" a skater they just acknowledged as their most valuable. Maybe if you did less worshipping, you would believe in less crap conspiracy theories and stop trashing other skaters to boost your favorite.
Yuzuru Hanyu personality radiates positivity around he. And it's getting big, good influence to people around the world since he hv many fans. He inspire people to do good with manner, speech & everything. Very competitive but stay humble & respectful. Class act
Hanyu is a legend. An exceptional skater like him rarely comes by. Others move like graceful dancers when they glide in the ice, but when Hanyu skates, he moves like the wind.
Yuzuru Hanyu is such a treasure.Handsome, talented , ambitious, kind , respectful. This man has won everything other figure skaters could only dream of and yet he is so humble and grounded. Yuzu is GOAT 🐐💪❤️🙏
Yuzuru hanyu is really the definition of a top athelete and sportsmenship. Unlike others in the video, he doesnt blame him losing to another skater with hate and rivalry or hostile relationships, he instead works to improve himself to become better and harder.
this video is by far one of my favourites, the editing skills were on point and it truly showed the difference between the worst and best moments in figure skating. firstly, for the worst moments, for plushenko and yagudin’s rivalry. tbh javi and yuzu’s rivalry was really similar to theirs. they were training mates and they were competing against each other. but they never failed to display great sportsmanship and they respected each other a lot. plushenko and yagudin had every right to treat each other as rivals but at least they should’ve shown respect towards each other. for the best moments, yuzu really is a legend. he’s not only a great athlete but he’s also a great person. he always shows respect towards other figure skaters and when someone wins over him he’s always the one to go and congratulate them. for instance nathan, he didn’t treat nathan as his rival, they were friends, and they had perfect sportsmanship. nathan was yuzu’s most threatening rival and yet they never failed to show great respect towards each other. i feel like some skaters like yuzu, nathan, javi, evgenia etc really changed figure skating for the better!!
Yuzuru is a legend! It was him that got me into figure skating. It is my honour to be in the same era when he is still active. Love his spirit so much! A shame he will retire soon, I hope he can be health and fulfilled for the rest of his life.
This is one of the reasons why I love Evgenia and Yuzuru. Their hearts truly belong in competitions because they still support other skaters no matter what the situation is 😭❤️
Totally agree. They truly change the sport and make figure skating the most beautiful sport in the world -- Not just the moves, but also the spirit of the sport 💕😫😃💓
I started informing my self on ice skating few day ago and Evgenia quickly became my favorite female skater. I love her performances, her attitude, she is artistic and fun. And her reactions in this video make me love her even more. Yuzu is my favorite male skater, I love his whole vibe.
Thank you so much! Yes we all love Yuzuru because of this very reason. He truly deserves to be called the G.O.A.T. not just for his achievements, but his spirit of athlete, which is so touching and inspiring 💕
Yes! I hope even the toxic fans can take after their example and not bash over skaters. (That includes the toxic fanyus. Hate that the toxic ones often tend to ruin the reputation of the rest of the fandom.$
LOVE YUZU! He is my favorite athlete and will always be even after his retirement. It is sad that I just met him in the winter games this year and he declared his retirement in July. I love ice skating so much, Thank you yuzu.
Whenever I told my friends that I'm into Figure Skating, a lot of the response would be - Oh I know the sport because of the movie "I, Tonya". And when I said I like Figure Skating because the athletes are so supportive and respectful of each others. A lot of them would give me a disbelief look because of how Figure Skating is portrayed in those movies - Girls' fight, drama, etc.. But seriously the sport has changed so much and sportsmanship is shining bright now because of the current generation of figure skaters like Yuzuru Hanyu, Javier Fernandez, Nathan Chen, Evgenia Medvedeva etc.. So this is a special documentary we made to display the best and worst moments of sportsmanship in Figure Skating, and how this sport has changed over the years. Take a look 💕
@@irondragonmaiden yes!! and we have a video coming up next comparing the YOI anime vs reality moments and you will see how great YOI is in replicating the real life stories. Should be up next Friday. Stay tuned :)
10:23 Look how a positive attitude change the atmosphere. We know Yuzu is a social butterfly and Nathan is a reserved one. Shoma was so cute, tailing Yuzu and after given an example, congratulated Nathan 😆
Damn I have absolutely forgotten the rivalry in figure skating used to be so bad! I'm now used to Yuzuru, Evgenia, Javier, Misha and others to being sweethearts to each other and having fun during competing... We truly live in the most amazing figure skating era! I hope young skaters take notes from these kind legends! And the old ones too haha! Yagudin is known to be a big fan of Yuzuru (who isn't tho)... legends supporting legends, what a wonderful thing to see! Also thank you for the video!:)
Yes me too. We are so used to the current generation of skaters being sweetheart to each others. So when we watched the movie "I Tonya" and the Netflix series "Spinning out", we were kinda, how to put it, quite disappointed that figure skating is being portrayed in such thing in the 90s.. Hopefully more and more people will realize how wonderfully supportive they are and more will start watch figure skating :)
omg is never heard of him before! how?-?- he's absolutely precious!! that made me so happy. thanks guys! seeing all that love towards other competitors is so heartwarming. I love him!
Yuzu seems pretty happy and motivated to have to complete with Nathan honestly. they both really respect each other and their rivalry isn't ugly, it just pushes them to improve.
YES! I agree so much! Many people seem to hate on the fanyus because of the toxic fans. But the problem is that with such big fandoms like Yuzu’s its almost impossible to avoid some toxicity. So i really hope that people understand that. Most fanyus r rather chill! Love to yuzu❤
Oksana was also skating with an approved anesthetic and in memory 9f her mother who died of Ovarian cancer when Oksana was 13 .Plus she was only 16 and in her like 3rd major international competition. She was VERY ENTITLED to being emotional
Totally agree! Oksana Baiul was inspirational there and we were Super disgusted by Nancy’s behaviour there (maybe she was too young or maybe she just thought she could always have it her way).. We normally don’t like to criticise the skaters and would always wanna find the reasons behind their actions. But unfortunately that behaviour from Nancy Kerrigan there towards Oksana Baiul’s crying and that stare were always a no no for us..
if I won gold on the Olympics I'd cry like a baby too, and nobody could say nothing about it. It's a lot of hardwork, tears, sweat, blood they put on that spot and winning at 16 its just enough to cry like a baby. Kerrigan was just mean.
turns out another reason why it took oksana a long time to show up to the podium ceremony was because they couldn't find a copy of the ukrainian national anthem
yuzuru is so precious, coming from an athelete family i do understand the rivalry in every competition and i could say that my bro sometimes dont respect his opponent and went straight home when he lost. BUT LOOK AT YUZURU, he is so humble and kind, bet nobody can hate him, he is just so likeable and i admire him so so much
Exactly! He taught us so much about the respect, on how to win a battle yet stay respectful to the opponents and the competition. Really really admirable!! Cannot understand anyone who don't like him. He's just like a blend of perfection..
Honestly, Yuzu and Javi are just the best role model of sportsmanship in figure skating for men. They aren't just great skaters but great people as well.
Yuzuru hanyu is really such a beautiful person both internally and externally. The way he projects himself on and off ice is just so mesmerising and touching for me. I wish him all the best in whatever he does
I remember I was at a competition with my best friend once, and we finished first and second and we were just so happy for eachother that it didn't even matter that she didn't win. I love that in this sport you can be best friends with your biggest rival!😍
Wow you and your best friend embodied the sportsmanship spirit too. It's heartwarming for us to hear that! And yes it's always about improving yourselves and getting better technically in this sport. Life is so much better when you learn from each others instead of seeing the others as enemies. We wish you and your best friends the best in your skating journey :) 💓
@@FigureSkatingFan That’s so much better than my generation. I was always in academic competition with my so-called best friend. I didn’t intend to be, but she definitely pushed it. She once told me I was her best friend because I “knew how to be quiet” when she was angry. She had trained me well on that front by not speaking to me for a whole month in 9th grade. I was extremely shy, so there were days when I didn’t speak to anyone at school during that month. Needless to say, once I went to university, I stopped being her friend. I didn’t need her negativity and my new friends didn’t make me compete with them. Sad thing is she married one of my distant cousins. He won’t talk to me because of her. He talks to my dad, but not me.
3:52 "Yagudin & Plushenko enter the games having won the last 4 world championships between them" "stormy relationship" "don't like each other very much" you know who else entered the games having won the last 4 world championships between them? that's right, kings of healthy rivalry/friendship Yuzu and Javi... they are part of a generation of skaters who are setting a standard of sportsmanship in FS
I've been thinking about this and about the far more brutal system Y & P skated under. They definitely weren't encouraged to think of each other as teammates or to care about each other's well being. They were pitted against each other and told that skating is a zero-sum game and were encouraged by coaches to cheer for each other's downfall. I'm sure that way of thinking did they both a lot of harm. ....which doesn't take away from how great Yuzuru and Javi are with each other. It's so nice to see the younger generations of skaters being better people and having such a different outlook on the sport and their relationships to one another. I can't remember who said it (Yuzu? Nathan?) but their attitude is more that they compete WITH each other rather than against each other.
@@michelleen158 Super well said. It's really the mindset of the generation and the coach. When the resources are limited, people tend to be more brutal towards each others and when the resources are abundance, people tend to be nicer. So we can't really blame Y&P as they grew up in such environment and the general atmosphere in 90s and early 2000s were really like these - competitions and not celebrating each others' success (Learn all these from my parents' stories too)... My personal take is that, only when figure skating become more popular, they would get more endorsement and resources to fund their training despite winning or losing, then they would be nice to each others, which is also one of the reason why we started this channel -- To make figure skating more popular as a sport. So more and more figure skaters are known to the world and more endorsement /sponsorship / funds / resources will be allocated to them. And yes that also doesn't take away Yuzu and Javi and current generation of skaters who are trying their best to demonstrate sportsmanship. It's really tough actually. I remember Brian Orser once mentioned it in some interviews pre-Olympic 2018 that Yuzu and Javi, despite respecting each others, couldn't train together in the same rink because they were in fact rivals going into Olympics. And yes, Nathan said it really well - Compete with, not against - ua-cam.com/video/D70JiTOEa3g/v-deo.html (We made another documentary about the sportsmanship between Yuzu and Nathan here).. We really salute these athletes..
@@FigureSkatingFan I'm so glad you made this channel to promote figure skating, which IMO is the greatest sport and vastly unappreciated by most. It requires so much skill and dedication and talent and focus, often in exchange for so little reward. I love that documentary about Yuzu and Nathan! I just watched it again. I can't get over how mature Nathan is, or Yuzu's sweet and thoughtful ways. We're so lucky to have them both.
@@michelleen158 **Figure skating, which IMO is the greatest sport and vastly unappreciated by **most. It** requires so much skill and dedication and talent and focus, often in exchange for so little reward.** This is super well said. I remember I was discussing this sport with some of my friends who watch other sports like football, baseball, tennis etc. Everyone was shocked when I told them the World Champion Prize money was about USD $40K. They were like.. Are you sure you didn't miss out a few zero's somewhere? They thought it would be USD 400K or so at least. Just for a comparison, Football FIFA world Cup Champion got ~$40 million as a team. Tennis Grand Slam winner gets ~$1-4million as a player. Baseball etc all around the same range - millions. And yet the training fee for figure skating is not exactly cheap, if not, even more expensive. It's just, the audience is just too small... Just really wish all the skating fans start appreciating this sport more and share more about this sport. So future skaters will have more funds and more resources for their training.
Yuzuru Hanyu is in a rare elite group being a two-time Olympic gold medalist. Now I realize he is in a more important rare group of humans off the ice.
Sportsmanship in Figure Skating has evolved so much, I *highly* doubt there is any sport that we could compare to this! We really went from: Slashing a competitors ancle on purpose (I know that her husband did it, but still) To literally being best buds with your biggest rival 😭❤️
and this is why yuzuru is adored by many! not just for his ridiculous talent and passion for figure skating and him being a champion. he’s such a sportsman, kind, down to earth person. always smiling and polite towards others. he knows competitions is just competition and off the ice rink, is they are still human. they’re all there to achiever their dream. so he respect everyone of them because the hard work they put off with every performance they do, AND THAT’S A GREAT ATHLETE RIGHT THERE! the respect i have for yuzuru just keeps growing day by day because of this. who can’t love this man? A TRUE CHAMPION THROUGH AND THROUGH! 👑💖
Keep watching figure skating. We watch YOI too (and liked it) But all we can say is the real life stories are 10 times more inspiring / interesting than YOI. And we created this channel in hope of bringing these stories to live.. Check out more stories in our channel. Thanks :)
I fell in love to Mao's spirited figure skating. She was so bubbly and big in her personality. And never in her life was she an outspoken critic of her competitors. Only do fans show off their worst behaviors more than these figure skating competitors. And yes, even competitors can have their best moments on the ice.
Yes Mao is such a legend in both her skating and personality. It’s so sad that the media only concentrated on the drama between her and Yuna (and the politics between Japan and Korea) at that time at the helm of rivalry. Some legends do not show up their legendary side straightaway. It takes years of discovery to show truly how great they are. Mao-Chan is one such skater..
Let's appreciate @8:02 because these are the same faces we make when watching figure skating from the comfort of our own homes. Thanks for highlighting some of our favorite moments!
His attitude to everybody around him spreads more humility and respect to other people. if the best at this sport isn’t as humble, as respectful and as genuine as him, I don’t think the other athletes would be too.
Yuzuru is in love with the sport that he loves those who are also working hard to keep it alive. That's the GOAT's attitude. He's competing with his self and it's reflecting by how he's not treating the other skaters as his competitor. That's also why he's being love by many.
Funfact: in a longer version of the vid at 7:58, it shows that Brian pushed Javi to go out skate his program, but before he goes he waved at Yuzu and not Brian lmao 😂 i love these 2 so much
If you do another one you should include the one with Brian Order and Brian Boitano in 1988. They were friends that goofed around some during their wait in the free skate. Some of their conversation afterwards was legendary, along with the hug they shared at the medal ceremony.
It's nice watching figure skating nowadays. Everyone is outwardly supportive and friendly to eachother. It's very positive and makes you smile just watching the behind the scenes.
I love watching Nathan and Yuzu. Two definitive styles. Yuzu is emotional, dramatic and expressive as opposed to Nathan is has controlled, calculated and deliberate interpretation. Nathan's transitions are mind boggling.
While there's not much in the sportsmanship department there between P&Y, their rivalry was so intense and so dramatic. It was just the environment at those time that encouraged those toxic rivalry. We are glad that now everyone is competing and yet supporting each others. 💓
Yudzuru keep teaching us art of respect, true friendship and healthy sport competition! God blessed you with all world love because you know how to love others. ❤️ keep going Hero!
Hanyu and Federer have respect for sportsmanship and people. They can be sure of themselves and are also fascinated by what others can do. Nathan is the same.
To lose against someone that trained less than you, or had competed less than you in the same field, I know that feeling and it can be hard to digest for competitive athletes. But not for Hanyu, the support he has for his opponents is not something that could be described with words.
Yes that's so true.. But that's just the reality in life. Just imagine you take the exam and didn't do well despite studying it for days and nights while the top scorer basically just flipped the book :P We love something Hanyu said "Hard work will not always give results. But it will be paid off in some ways..."
You are so right! Actually we felt so negative ourselves watching the first half and we always skipped to the second half ourselves too. But too bad, history is history. We just have to show that part to show how the sportsmanship has evolved. Btw, after we made this video, we decided to make another video trailers about all the beautiful moments of sportsmanship in figure skating here: ua-cam.com/video/PhEz6cSg0Wg/v-deo.html Take a look 😀💕
I totally agree he is total class in himself. How can someone not fall for him?! He is perfect portrayal of sportsmanship. It really requires a large heart to cheer for your competitors!!Thats why we love yuzuru hanyu. Proud to be a fanyu😍💓!!
"Not about beating others but surpassing self " truly Japanese TQM culture . Great ambassador in Sports . Glad he Olympian as a great sample to youths.
Imagine any modern-era skater celebrating another skater's injury. It's just unthinkable. I remember watching Yagudin doing that and feeling deeply ashamed for him.
I wasn't shocked when Evgenia went to Orser, she always had the energy of someone from TCC. If it wasn't for the pandemic, I know she still would be training here, but things just didn't work that way. I hope she will consider Toronto as somewhere she can come and be welcome again in the future, as athlete or coach when the time comes.
....and to think I thought Yuzu-javi relationship was common.....god . And yes Yuzuru is a breed by himself, I totally agree with you announcer lady And thank you for the amazing epiphanic Vedio
(My english sucks, sorry) Yuzuru is one of the best skaters of all time! He's classy and sweet, what else can we expect? Change the sport and break imposible records? PfF, eAsY. He's one of the reasons why the figure skating is so enjoyable nowadays. Like, I respect all skaters from all generations but sh*t talking about other skaters, disrespecting the other medals or acting bad generally is a disrespect for the sport and all the people behind (other competitors, judges, fans, etc.)

It's a shame that even Med and Zag look like they are friends with each other then, they are not now Always shading each other in every other event they're in lol Although they seem okay when they went to Beijing together but no one knows whats happening behind cameras I think 3A used to be besties until Sasha and Aliona moved to Plush and began resenting each other And now that Beijing happened, Sasha and Anya's friendship is kinda questionable too Eteri's skater may started as friends but then drift away from each other because of the camp's rivalry toxicity, a real shame
O Yuzuro é tão maravilhoso, suas atitudes só reflete seu carácter. Sou orgulhosa de ser fã dele pois essas são atitudes que espero das pessoas e nisso ele nunca decepciona.
Tonya was Amazing, its so sad that she had to live in such a stormy life. Javier Fernández its so sweet also, whenever yuzu and Javi are together they irradiate a special energy
"It is not about beating others, but about surpassing yourself" - Yuzuru Hanyu
This is the best era of skaters, where there are skaters with a good competitive spirit, who teach us the true sport.
Indeed! So glad to see this generation of skaters being so positive on everything :)
Hearing similar words come out of Yuma Kagiyama and Shoma Uno in interviews after the Olympics this year had me so emotional.
yes that quote probably describes why he is such a legend. And he continues to make records.
This is the reason why I like Yuzuru Hanyu. Because of he , i became a big fan of figure skating.
Me too 😭
SAMEEEE
I 100% agree. My sole reason why I like watching Figure Skating
I got interested in figure skating because of Plushenko but Yuzuru is totally my favorite skater right now
Same here i became a fan because of him and yuri on ice
Not only is Yuzu the GOAT of FS, but he is also classy and respectful towards his rivals. Even after winning two Olympic golds, 4 GPFs, 2 Worlds, and the grand slam, he is still working hard for progress. I wish him good health and that his 4A goal will be achieved!
** I wish him good health and that his 4A goal will be achieved! ** We fully second that 😃💓
If you don’t mind me asking what it 4A?
@Itzel Ramirez Hi, 4A is Quad Axel. It's 4.5 Rotations in the air. The only quad not yet landed by anyone. This is Yuzu's new challenge. We had a documentary about it. Take a look here: ua-cam.com/video/kppVhTOXybk/v-deo.html 😀
Male GOAT.
Be like him then ;)
@@turtlefeesh all of us including you.
Amen
I love this guy. He is the best skater ever and he deserves the world.
And as u pointed out, kamila, zhenya, Yuzu were all really good example for that.
yes! Med and Hanyu always show class act.
I honestly loved oksana!
Never a fan of Kerrigan - she always appeared entitled
@@FigureSkatingFan yeah!! when i watched that clip of yuzuru reacting to javier's program i was like "same", he's a fan for sure
Yes ikr, Yuzu even praised Boyang's jump and said it was so cool lol. Yuzu is such a good senpai & rival 😭
Perfect words!! Super agree!
Really glad to hear that!
I did start before the 90s although I was not a regular. Sometimes, I was stopping because of the dramas. I'm so happy it finally changed for good 😊
While I agree with the general sentiment, I think it’s also very important to respect the great athletes, coaches and professionals who were there before us!
Nathan leaning in an out while trying to decide if he should approach Hanyu is a whole mood.
Weirdly my mind imagine it like a boy who's having an internal debate on whether to talk to his crush or not 😂😂
a friendship i’ll always admire is yuzuru hanyu and javier fernandez!! how they can be so close, but also total rivals! goes to prove evgenia’s point of what happens on the ice stays on the ice!
Exactly! Competition is competition. Life is life. Such a wonderful mind! And these figure skaters prove that so well :)
yes, that's the attitude that everyone needs. it good to be competitive, but you can also leave it behind sometimes
Well.. this didn’t aged well

Yuzuru is one of those athletes who cares about the sport, not just his own medals. He’s confident in his skills and doesn’t feel the need to drag down others. He’s humble when he wins and gracious when he loses. Really respect him.
The friedship of Yuzuru and Javier was special. They respected and liked each other a lot. Two great figure skaters and also two great men.

Yuzuvier!!! 😂😀💕
Yuzu is very kind.✨I respect him.
Yuzuru and Nathan’s sportsmanship is so amazing! Still competitive with each other while respecting and praising each other. True competitors.
Yeah wish the crazy Yuzuru fans would act the same way
Nathan Chen is always such a good sportsman!
Wish more fans will start appreciating both of them 💕
@@FigureSkatingFan I love both of them! They’re not only the best in the world, they also really respect each other as competitors.
Class act
Yes!! So well said! What an inspiration he is!

Besides, she was the first one to win Olympic gold medal for independent Ukraine.
turns out another reason why it took oksana a long time to show up to the podium ceremony was because they couldn't find a copy of the ukrainian national anthem
@@juhajaara5525 wow she made history for the whole country thay day. good for her.

Yuzuru hanyu is really such a beautiful person both internally and externally. The way he projects himself on and off ice is just so mesmerising and touching for me. I wish him all the best in whatever he does

3:52 "Yagudin & Plushenko enter the games having won the last 4 world championships between them"
"stormy relationship"
"don't like each other very much"
you know who else entered the games having won the last 4 world championships between them? that's right, kings of healthy rivalry/friendship Yuzu and Javi... they are part of a generation of skaters who are setting a standard of sportsmanship in FS
You are so right! Yuzu and Javi... their moments are forever the best memories in our heart 💕

Thanks for highlighting some of our favorite moments!

yup
His attitude to everybody around him spreads more humility and respect to other people. if the best at this sport isn’t as humble, as respectful and as genuine as him, I don’t think the other athletes would be too.
Yuzuru is in love with the sport that he loves those who are also working hard to keep it alive. That's the GOAT's attitude. He's competing with his self and it's reflecting by how he's not treating the other skaters as his competitor. That's also why he's being love by many.
Funfact: in a longer version of the vid at 7:58, it shows that Brian pushed Javi to go out skate his program, but before he goes he waved at Yuzu and not Brian lmao 😂 i love these 2 so much
Yuzuru Hanyu and such a gem! He’s so nice and such a great sport to everyone! 😭❤️
Yes he’s such a gem 💎
Didn't like to think about the 'worst moments' but Yuzuru and the modern skaters are what brought me back to watching skating.
Hi 5! Same here :) And many many fans around the world :D
Eso es lo que nos falta en estos tiempos de guerra: amor y respeto el uno por el otro, Yuzuru es un gran ejemplo de ambos.
If you do another one you should include the one with Brian Order and Brian Boitano in 1988. They were friends that goofed around some during their wait in the free skate. Some of their conversation afterwards was legendary, along with the hug they shared at the medal ceremony.
I love how half of the video is about how nice Yuzuru is 😭
🥰😜 because he’s just that nice 👍
It's nice watching figure skating nowadays. Everyone is outwardly supportive and friendly to eachother. It's very positive and makes you smile just watching the behind the scenes.
I love watching Nathan and Yuzu. Two definitive styles. Yuzu is emotional, dramatic and expressive as opposed to Nathan is has controlled, calculated and deliberate interpretation. Nathan's transitions are mind boggling.
Yes! I really wish there werent those toxic fans that try to bash the other skaters.
Yuzu crawling to not interrupt the interview is the cutest thing! 🥰🥰🥰
Plushenko and yagudin crashed and burned so yuzu and javi could sprint
While there's not much in the sportsmanship department there between P&Y, their rivalry was so intense and so dramatic. It was just the environment at those time that encouraged those toxic rivalry. We are glad that now everyone is competing and yet supporting each others. 💓
@@FigureSkatingFan That's true, their coaches hated each other with a passion and incentivated their rivalry to the top.
This is just one of the many reasons why I adore Nathan, Yuzuru and Kamila. All of them so modest and yet poised when they need to be.
yuzuru is the standard for ice skating and sportmanship, i love him sm ❤
Hi 👋 Oikawa 🤗
@@FigureSkatingFan hey there pretty person 😘👋
Yuzuru speaks to the spirit of Japan. At the heart of sport is about honor, regardless of the win.
Yudzuru keep teaching us art of respect, true friendship and healthy sport competition! God blessed you with all world love because you know how to love others. ❤️ keep going Hero!
yuzu and javi are truly just the cutest 🥺
這才是王者風範!羽生只想要超越自己,對後輩也很提攜,正因為他以前也被前輩不公平對待,因為如此善良,才會那麼多人喜愛他!
Hanyu is like the Rodger Federer of figure skating.
He seems like a solid dude.
He is! :)
Hanyu and Federer have respect for sportsmanship and people. They can be sure of themselves and are also fascinated by what others can do. Nathan is the same.
Yuzu's little "Javi!" at 11:36 is so cute 🥺
The contrast between Tonya breaking Nancy's leg and Hanyu showing such respect and compassion for his rivals is shocking.
I respect yuzuru hanyu in soooo many ways. Both, when he is on ice or not. His personality is too good to be true.
Not Yuzu: "Javieeeeer~~~~" and hugs him , so cuuuuuuute
yuzu somehow found a natural and weird balance in between all the skaters and drama. it's actually quite incredible to see lol
Yuzuru.... What a sweet person. Character and medals.
❤️❤️❤️ Yes Yuzuru isn’t just an athlete with great achievement, but with great personality too 😀😀
To lose against someone that trained less than you, or had competed less than you in the same field, I know that feeling and it can be hard to digest for competitive athletes.
@@FigureSkatingFan that's touching my heart and motivates to achieve something. thankyou for telling his words.
texas summer we wish you all the best in everything you do :)
Absolutely love this video! I prefer ignoring the first half. Let's focus on all the positive energy flowing out of the second half of this video ❤️
Glad he Olympian as a great sample to youths.
yuzuru and javi’s friendship is literally so cute
this did NOT AGE WELL 😭😭😭
Imagine any modern-era skater celebrating another skater's injury. It's just unthinkable. I remember watching Yagudin doing that and feeling deeply ashamed for him.
@S K When did. that happen?
@S K Really? I didn‘t know that. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. That is absolutely not okay.
@@seadaughter2185 idk if thats true or not but I certainly wouldnt believe it w/o evidence just because someone in a comment section said it happened.
@S K Haters detected!!! 👊 Don't lie about Medvedeva!!!
@@seadaughter2185 SK is a hater!
Don't believe him! Everyone loves Zhenya!
Me da mucho gusto que el patinaje ha evolucionado super bien. Ya hay un espíritu deportista saludable en la mayoría de los casos. Y aplaudo a a Yuzuru por ser un deportista tan profesional.
I don't know much about figure skating, but I came out of this loving Yuzuru Hanyu. So sweet
Yuzuru Hanyu 👏👏👏👏👏 eres y serás un chico Maravilloso y un Dios sobre el hielo , amo tu humildad y respeto por los demás patinadores , te admirare por siemmmmpre
Thank you for Evgenia Medvedeva!🌹❤️

A true Queen full of graciousness!
Aww really we felt that way.. I think she has a good future as both a choreographer and coach. She has really good sense of music..
....and to think I thought Yuzu-javi relationship was common.....god .
And yes Yuzuru is a breed by himself, I totally agree with you announcer lady
And thank you for the amazing epiphanic Vedio
Javier and Yuzu's friendship was (and i hope still is) so incredibly fulfilling and wholesome
I miss yuzu so much. Thank you so much 🥰🥰
(My english sucks, sorry)
Yuzuru is one of the best skaters of all time!
Your English is better than most people who grew up speaking it!
@@nonyabidness5708 oh, thank you
Wonderfully said!!
Fan of yuzuru since the first time that I saw him like 4 years ago and I don’t regret to support him everyday and I will love him forever
It's a shame that even Med and Zag look like they are friends with each other then, they are not now
Always shading each other in every other event they're in lol
Although they seem okay when they went to Beijing together but no one knows whats happening behind cameras
I think 3A used to be besties until Sasha and Aliona moved to Plush and began resenting each other
And now that Beijing happened, Sasha and Anya's friendship is kinda questionable too
Eteri's skater may started as friends but then drift away from each other because of the camp's rivalry toxicity, a real shame
Nope darling, their friendship is all fine. They all know how to disconnect the eteri's toxic environment from their social life
Yuzu is such a sweetheart. Truly a unique person.
When Mariah give to Aliona the gold medal. That was so cute
Yes super cute! We included that moment in one of our fun videos here: ua-cam.com/video/TZny0L5PDIs/v-deo.html Take a look 😆💕

What a real man with sportmanship!
O Yuzuro é tão maravilhoso, suas atitudes só reflete seu carácter. Sou orgulhosa de ser fã dele pois essas são atitudes que espero das pessoas e nisso ele nunca decepciona.
Sim, Yuzuru Hanyu nunca decepciona
Yzuru is a absolute gem!
Tonya was Amazing, its so sad that she had to live in such a stormy life.
Javier Fernández its so sweet also, whenever yuzu and Javi are together they irradiate a special energy
