I can't believe I am watching something happening in ALASKA that is part of my childhood memories being raised on a town supply dairy farm on the outskirts of Dunedin , Sth Is. NZ. My dad would drive the huge dmp truck into the distillery in Dunedin and park under the hopper that would pour out the spent barley to fill the truck. With it backed up to a hole in the wall all the "grains" as we called it was shovelled by Dad and my older siblings into a huge empty concrete stall and morning and night at milking time every cow would get a bucket of grains to munch on as she was milked. My husband said your meal is absolutely as perfect as he himself would make. He wanted me to share his appreciation of not only your meal but your content. Thank you!
So much of this episode reminds me of my dad. My parents' house was heated with wood for many, many years so the sound of a chainsaw is very familiar. I learned to pile wood without the benefit of walls to keep the piles from falling over while the chunks dried. I went grouse hunting with him, cut wood with him, was not allowed to build fires as that was his domain. But I can smell the woodsmoke from your hearth fire and know that my dad is doing just fine wherever he is now. Maybe he's in Alaska. I think he would have liked it there. If you see him out on the trail, tell him I say hi.

Your hard work and appreciation for all your blessings is inspiring. Thank you so much for going through all the work to share your lives and the beauty of Alaska and its creatures with us. Best wishes and prayers for you two in the coming winter.
The part at 17:36 the toasty fire switching to the ever so gentle falling snow, kitty speckled with snowflakes, the piano music.....the entrance of......winter......I'm sitting here crying.....yes....it is just that beautiful. Thank you so much. ❤
Video quality just keeps getting better. So many different perspectives, sights and sounds…it feels like we are there with you. You do a great service, welcoming us into your lives. We need a retreat from the world. Can’t thank you enough. Most grateful 🌻🙏🏻
I was so happy to see a video from y’all today. Those Brussels sprouts looked amazing. I loved seeing you work together to get things ready for winter, the wood is stocked, the chimney cleaned, wood burner spruced up and the garden laid to rest for the winter. Such a beautiful life. Oh to be young again working the land with a man. These are the days you’ll remember. Have a great week you two! 🧡🍁 🦃🌻🤎🌾🍂
This is the way things were done when I was growing up on the farm. Everyone helped out with the skills they had for their age. As you got older and bigger you learned new skills. The young ones of today don't seem to do that anymore. They check their computer to see how difficult it is and if they can do it instead of learning the skills themselves.
2:30 Beau, paws crossed, like Sir Richard Attenborough with the plummy British accent commenting on the quaint habits of the local natives. You labored to put the garden to bed, and winter pulled the white covers up.
It's so nourishing seeing virtually everything you do in your day is directly related to your sustenance and personal joy. This is so completely different than the vast majority of westerners who spend their days trading their time (aka their lives) for cash doing something they don't even enjoy, to pay for strangers to watch their children and their aging parents and for groceries laced with chemical fertilizers and chemicals, and spending hours every day looking at screens while their lives fritter away... In contrast, your hours are spent outdoors in nature working to harvest your food from your garden and from the wild, building new infrastructure or working on your other property, etc. Or traveling to see beautiful places and exploring, going out to your little cabin, etc. You two have a lot of wisdom living the life the way you choose to, especially for being so young. Thank you for sharing it with all of us!
There is no question that you have the most beautiful videos on the internet. Sharing your daily lives is such a gift for all of us. We get to see the beauty of Alaska thru your eyes. Thank you 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Thank you for making that pause before your calendar announcement. I laughed at Eric's smirk. I'm not getting my hopes up until you start building at the other property.
If I were 30 yrs younger Id give Alaska a try. I lived in the south til I was 30 . Then moved to the Black Hills in South Dakota. I loved it . Had a rural cabin & heated with wood. Always grew most of our food & fished all summer to stock the freezer . Ranchers in the area sold beef by the half so that kept us in burgers & steaks... But my job took me to Texas where I've been the last 25 yrs. My girls miss those yrs in SD now that they're older & I never stopped missing it... I still go back to the Black Hills every few yrs & I still believe its the best place to raise a family... But Alaska ! Now thats really living off grid. And the challenge would've suited me perfectly at a young age.. But Im 2 yrs from retirement & I doubt I could handle the work load.... Seeing the two of you working together convinces me its a paradise for the right couple.
I'm a pure carnivore, but there is something so relaxing about watching you prepare and manage your garden beds. Very zen. If I was a gardener, you would be my inspiration. :-)
You two are simply amazing! You know your audience will always be checking on you to make sure you're OK, and you're not only much better than OK, you're teaching us how to be much better than OK!
So fun watching you get ready for winter in Alaska. You two are so ready. What a fantastic meal you just cooked. For me, it is going to be so fun watching you kick back by the fire reading a good book. I know you stay active all the time, with your snowmobiles, ice fishing, clearing the snow off your solar collector, and so on, but I hope there will be some time for kicking back and reading a good book, even if it is just a seed catalog, especially when it is snowing for days at a time. Don't be afraid to share that with us. That is part of the good life you are living too. Thanks.
The production value of your videos is unreal. You create space with sound. The sound-scape is beyond my comprehension. You bring the viewer into your world with stunning cinematography. I am amazed. Am I watching a UA-cam video or Stanley Kubrick?
You guys are such a great team. I am also glad you took the extra time and effort for safety. You always have a lot to do when homesteading and you have no time to be injured.
I tried Brussels sprouts this year and got nada. I need to learn more! These guys are great and I love how they don’t have them half naked in the thumb nails to get views!
Bo was so cute, lying there when you were harvesting carrots. Paws crossed, he was a gentleman of a host. Then when he started eating the carrot to put his two cents in on how good they were, priceless. The timing of the rooster crowing as Eric looked down the stove pipe, lol! I had to think for a second there! It always amazes me how much your cat looks like my Lion. yours is a bit bigger than mine, but besides that, they’re twins. And Bandit! Good boy! You guys take such good care of your pets.
Great content on your channel. Keep up the good work, you're building a catalogue of practical living and showing pride in the value of hard work, intelligent planning and a way forward for future generations.
I don't know you folks personally but I really love your content and both your personalities. I like to think that if we knew each other we would be good friends. 🙏 Much love to you both from Canada 🍁 Thanks for sharing your lifestyle and experiences with us all, it's truly inspiring. You can "Shuck" Ptarmigan while fresh. 🙂
You finished all the chores just in time. The moose meat looks so good and cooked to perfection. Sandwiches looked fabulous. Bandit did great on finding and bringing the birds back to you, he earned his keep.
Southern Louisiana here! Can y’all make a 4+hour video of only y’all’s drone footage of the snowy Alaska and put soft classical music to it. I would play that on repeat during the month of December!!
18:00 was the moment I felled tears coming up. Perfect footage and music to go with it. Man. I expressed so much words on this channel on how peeping beautiful it all is, I dont know what to say next but thank you. The life you have is more then money can buy. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. ❤🧚♀️
A garden that will feed you , feed the chickens and supply carrots for Bo is a treasure. It is a lot of hard work but there is nothing better than growing your own food. You’ve had a great harvest of produce and an over abundance of weeds! One of the best videos, loved the cinematography ♥️
My brother and I did this when we were young, like five years old till I was 12. My grandpa always had a garden. Brings back a lot of memories, like the time I rubbed my eyes after I just picked the jalapeño’s.
I'm glad to see y'all have sufficient canine and feline supervision. I'm shamed by how you two just move to the next job and keep working. Thank you for another excellent video, and for sharing your love for the land and each other with us. Be well and at peace.
This is going to be a gift for my mom. My dad always wanted to move to Alaska when he was a young man but life got in the way. His favorite song was “North to Alaska “. I wish he was alive to watch your videos because it was the life he wanted. Best wishes from north Louisiana.
You guys are amazing! I live vicariously through you. I am chronically ill and i truly wish i could do half the things you guys do. Truly amazing and blessed. Wishing you all the best life has to offer 🙏⭐
I worked one single, 4 month stint in Alaska 5 years ago and fell in love. I haven’t been able to go back since but I’ve been able to cultivate bits of that life into my life here in Oregon. I love your channel and the visuals you do. They bring me great homesick joy for a place I wasn’t at long enough to call home. ❤️
I've just turned 60, however, if I was 20 again I would up sticks from the UK and move to either Alaska or Canada, the lifestyle looks fantastic, hard work yes, but hard work doesn't bother me.
I'm so happy to see another video. I too, like many others on here, love the drone footage, but my favorite videos are the two of you cooking. I know this is going to sound stupid to the two of you, but watching the drone footage made me cry. Like I said before, I was stationed in Alaska for 7 years and I do miss it.
You guys are so truly blessed to live the lifestyle that you do. I think it’s great that you guys are so self-sufficient. You all are some of the hardest working people that I have ever seen and that in it’s self is a trait to be highly admired. Simple Living Alaska is, by far, one of my favorite channels. Stay safe, happy, healthy and warm my friends. Looking forward to watching your next video. God Bless You All. 💜🤍🙏🏻✝️🙏🏻🤍💜
Wow those drone clips are artwork. I can’t help but feel moved watching that with the music. You should get footage through the year and do a compilation video of how the landscape changes over the course of a year
If you grow cabbage and you grow more than you need, you can pull them up by the roots and leave the root on. Then dig a hole and put the cabbage head into the hole but leave the root sticking up. You can go out on a warm day and pull the cabbage up by the roots.
no no no! leave the brussels sprouts out on the plants. Pick them from bottom to top as you consume them and remove the leaves also as you pick to sprouts. sprouts are frost resistent and actually get better/sweeter when the freeze hits them.
Sounds like someone who likes their Brussels Sprouts! Very true what you say. A highly underrated vegetable in my opinion. (Also don’t overcook them….)
Your pups are living their best lives! Regal Beau protecting and watching over you. Bandit is the best pond digger and hunting dog. Just loving seeing them in their element! 💕💕 love from KS🌻
Your videos always remind me of the Aesop fable The Ant and The Grasshopper. My grandmother told that fable to me at bedtime every time I slept over at her house when I was a little child. She tried many times to tell me other stories, and she was good at other stories too. But no, it was The Ant and The Grasshopper that was the amazing story for me. She always told it by heart, and every time she added new and interesting things that the ants would do to improve their house and build up their food storage. They went foraging in the woods for all kinds of food. It still to this day brings a smile on my face thinking about those times. You two are the busy ants building new buildings and adding to your food supply and firewood supply slowly and steady, day by day. And the poor grasshopper, who had a good time during summer, playing and jumping around from joy all day long, who knows what happened to him after the first snow fell. The poor llttle guy didn't have a warm house to stay in when the cold set in, and he didn't have anything to eat when the ground was covered in snow... And I shed a few tears for the little grasshopper every time :-)
I'm subscribed to a few off grid sites. I was born in Anchorage and my Dad owned the General Store on the Homer Spit that burned down in 1994, which sat right next door to the Salty Dog Saloon... I'm also an Oregonian which is ironic. Have family up in Talkeetna area. Love all you do and you're both incredibly inspiring ❤❤❤
I felt entire body goosebumps during your musical drone footage. Absolutely the most lovely captures!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us! Sending warm hugs and love from 🇨🇦🥰
If ANYBODY deserves your fishing and holidays you take, it is yall. I have never seen anybody work like you do, both of you... Surely you have some downtime sometime to just lie across the bed and take it easy for just awhile. You are so my heroes. God bless...
We would love to see a “get to know you” or Q&A type video! We love watching you guys and feel like part of the long lost family. You always have such beautiful footage and interesting things going on! Love your channel! 💜
Arielle: "Whew, that's done, now let's get to work cleaning up the carrot bed." Bo: "Did somebody say....BED?" [plops down] Eric: "Bo, get out of the carrot bed!" Heh, I think maybe winning the UA-cam Couch Potato Championship this year may have gone to Bo's head just a little.😆
Was looking for you guys video last couple of days hoping you'd post one, you don't know how blessed you both are, to have each other, and the love between you two is very prominent. Iv told you before if I was about 50 years younger I'd be in Alaska doing exactly what y'all are doing. Iv read several places they are telling people to back up all your videos to your computer, talk of alot of things going down... Be safe and be blessed. Love you guys.
Pepper, King of the Snow; Bo, Supervisor of all things Garden; and Bandit the Great Hunter! Y'all are the mere laborers in this whole situation! Peace ☮️ and love 💜 from Kimberly in South Dakota 💙❤️
Winter comes fast for you. Today it is 84 and a low of 69 here in south Texas. I love your kitty. I had one just like him and loved him so much! We lived 300 miles south of the Arctic Circle and ate a lot of ptarmigan. They’d walk around in our front yard.
I wish people in Portugal who have bought farms there and are trying to raise food, would watch this video on enriching the soil. If you don’t have rich soil, you will not have rich vegetables. Gardening is hard work and needs attending during growing season daily. Best wishes to all gardeners.💕
So majestic and at the same peaceful. I’m down south in SC, opposite from your climate but still learn a lot from you guys. I’m grateful that you share your journey with us. Many blessings.
Great video. One suggestion would be to move your compost pile to wetland part of your property. It will decompose sooner and yield better quality of fertilizer.

angela gentry. Yes, we can have our dreams & vicarious living. . .🙏♥️🙏☝️👵😂🤗
This is the way things were done when I was growing up on the farm. Everyone helped out with the skills they had for their age. As you got older and bigger you learned new skills. The young ones of today don't seem to do that anymore. They check their computer to see how difficult it is and if they can do it instead of learning the skills themselves.

Beau, paws crossed, like Sir Richard Attenborough with the plummy British accent commenting on the quaint habits of the local natives.
You labored to put the garden to bed, and winter pulled the white covers up.
I was very much enjoying watching his posture, too! 🐾🥰
Thank you 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
It's so comforting to see two honest hardworking people living off grid. Thank you for your videos.
Shout out to Eric’s shirt for keeping this man warm so many winters!
What a great way to live!!
Thank you for making that pause before your calendar announcement. I laughed at Eric's smirk. I'm not getting my hopes up until you start building at the other property.
That smirk had me fooled for a hot second 😆
😔
OMG the drone footage is breathtaking. Thank you both for sharing your world with all of us
I absolutely love the way you work as a team.
When ever I watch your videos, I never want them to end
You guys are such a great team. I am also glad you took the extra time and effort for safety. You always have a lot to do when homesteading and you have no time to be injured.
Beautiful brussel sprouts :) You have given me the oomph to grow them now! I'm in New Zealand so we are just going into our growing season :)
I tried Brussels sprouts this year and got nada. I need to learn more! These guys are great and I love how they don’t have them half naked in the thumb nails to get views!
@@gracieshepardtothemax1743 So agree with you
@@rhonak7548 right! Love these guys! Nothing but respect through and through!
I have loved brussels sprouts for decades and have never seen such gorgeous stalks ! 😎 Bought two calendars, Love to you both from Florida 🌞
The scenery with music was spectacular! Love your videos!
Why is the sound of roots breaking from a shovel so soothing!!! Off the grid ASMR!
And add a 4 hour vid of the fire in the wood stove!
@@sherry2836 absolutely!!!
I'm in!
I love your wonderful simple way of life.. Happiness lies in simplicity, friendliness and mutual love
Harvest season is the happiest time of the year for the chickens!
This is going to be a gift for my mom. My dad always wanted to move to Alaska when he was a young man but life got in the way. His favorite song was “North to Alaska “. I wish he was alive to watch your videos because it was the life he wanted. Best wishes from north Louisiana.
That is so sweet of you Carolyn. What a blessing.

🙏♥️🙏☝️👵
You guys are amazing! I live vicariously through you. I am chronically ill and i truly wish i could do half the things you guys do. Truly amazing and blessed. Wishing you all the best life has to offer 🙏⭐
Same here
Me to ,wish I spent more time in my garden but we all get to watch but o back pain lol.
Yes...good hunting dogs are great hunting companions..a good nose is priceless...
Wow, those drone shots of the first snow on the trees were beautiful ❄️
I worked one single, 4 month stint in Alaska 5 years ago and fell in love. I haven’t been able to go back since but I’ve been able to cultivate bits of that life into my life here in Oregon. I love your channel and the visuals you do. They bring me great homesick joy for a place I wasn’t at long enough to call home. ❤️
Perfect timing. Was just scrolling through the older episodes to see if we missed any!
I've just turned 60, however, if I was 20 again I would up sticks from the UK and move to either Alaska or Canada, the lifestyle looks fantastic, hard work yes, but hard work doesn't bother me.
I love it when the fur babies help with the chores. They always make my day.
They are always so helpful hahaha
Can't find any better definition of freedom than your life !
Alaska is beautiful at the best of times but when it snows there’s no where else on earth like it , Alaska is absolutely stunning .
I love the sounds of harvesting the garden. Reminds me of a simpler time.
💜🤍🙏🏻✝️🙏🏻🤍💜
outstanding as always, calendar ordered. Arielle's photography is beautiful.
I love that nothing goes to waste. It is so fun to watch the chickens enjoying themselves. I can't wait to have a small farm again.
The drone sequence is stunning 😍 beautiful editing guys!
Wow those drone clips are artwork. I can’t help but feel moved watching that with the music. You should get footage through the year and do a compilation video of how the landscape changes over the course of a year
...looks like you were ready for the cold and snow, good one, have a great weekend...
I have video of my husband knee deep in snow one Nova Scotia Christmas day picking our brussells. We always left them in.
@@MountainMariner Shredded Brussels sprouts sauteed in bacon drippings, with a drizzle of maple syrup is the best way to eat them.
@@Kiki-D-Kimono exactly except you forgot a dash of parmigiana cheese…
@@MountainMariner Ohhhhh never did that, but I will try it next time! Thank you for the suggestion!
Your pups are living their best lives! Regal Beau protecting and watching over you. Bandit is the best pond digger and hunting dog. Just loving seeing them in their element! 💕💕 love from KS🌻
Stunning footage, Alaska is unbelievably beautiful.
It must be so satisfying to have everything done for the winter and to be able to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your hard labor.
🐝🐝🐝 ready. Lots of work done but I'm sure it's all worth it!
Beautiful scenery as always. Take care kids! Be safe and take care!
The drone footage with the music brings tears to my eyes, it's so beautiful!
What a great way to spend a Friday. Thanks for another great one.
What a difference a day makes, snow day that is
Got my calendar ordered. I enjoyed last year’s so much and so happy you did this again.
We would love to see a “get to know you” or Q&A type video! We love watching you guys and feel like part of the long lost family. You always have such beautiful footage and interesting things going on! Love your channel! 💜
Drone shots were beautiful….love your channel
Arielle: "Whew, that's done, now let's get to work cleaning up the carrot bed."
Bo: "Did somebody say....BED?" [plops down]
Eric: "Bo, get out of the carrot bed!"
Heh, I think maybe winning the UA-cam Couch Potato Championship this year may have gone to Bo's head just a little.😆
Was looking for you guys video last couple of days hoping you'd post one, you don't know how blessed you both are, to have each other, and the love between you two is very prominent. Iv told you before if I was about 50 years younger I'd be in Alaska doing exactly what y'all are doing. Iv read several places they are telling people to back up all your videos to your computer, talk of alot of things going down... Be safe and be blessed. Love you guys.
External hard drive maybe 🤷♀️ not an IT person by any means.
And they'll be ready anytime by living off the grid! Love it!!!
I’m in SC , too and I absolutely love their channel!
Great video. One suggestion would be to move your compost pile to wetland part of your property. It will decompose sooner and yield better quality of fertilizer.
Yes! The nature drone shots are back 🙌🏼 👌🏼
GM ☕️☕️☕️. I just love Bo (?) .. kind of dog you just want to snuggle up with 🤩. Thank you for all the arial views you include in your videos. Warms my heart & eases my longing for Alaska. Your team work gets so dang much done & makes life much easier. And love the start of a beard Eric!
Living my dream thru you 👵🏻👩🌾❣️
Love everytime you guys post drone footage. So healing. Just beautiful there. 🥰🤗
*This tired old world has some truly breathtaking areas of sheer beauty.*
*Alaska has more than her fair share!* 🥰
Love your guys life. Would trade in a minute. I know that won’t happen anytime soon. Sooo I will live it through you guys. Your videos are so relaxing too.
@Simple Living Alaska Hard a&& work, thank you for sharing the reality of living off the land. Everything looks so tasty, right out of the ground. 27:45-30:33 that food looks amazing!
