When Pike slow down biting, try riding you snowmobiling in decreasing circles around you tipups area. Also banging a heavy weight off the bottom stirs them up. That's why you get hits first thing you just hit the bottom checking the depth. Plus the noise and vibration from the drill. This works for us in the slow times we learned the snowmobile trick one day when my son was more interested in riding and not fishing. I thought he was pissing off the other folks on the lake. Next weekend I was alone and the same folks fishing. They came over and asked where the snowmobile was? They told me the fish started hitting with him riding around and wanted him back! Good luck great show.

I love this channel SO much. Im born&living in the Netherlands, we have ZERO wildlife, no 'wild' nature, and heavy regulations for the nature there is. Just 20+ million people cramped on a piece of land the size of New York. Dutch people do nothing other than go to school, then college, then work corporate till we die. Ever since i found this channel, ive seen what a REAL life is😍😍Real food, real people, actual living instead of just excisting. This channel is singlehandedly curing my depression a video at a time😂😍💕💕💕💕💕💕

When I lived in Northern Alberta we often fished for pike. Nothing like fresh caught fish pan fried in butter, sometimes battered. My daughter's first time out, she caught a monster pike in the weedy shallows by the shoreline. This was before cell phones, and no camera that day. It was hilarious watching her and her brother trying to bring it in while stuck in the muck of the shore. We never weighed it or measured it, my son fileted it right there. I brought the head home and it measured 9 inches. We figured it might have been about 45 inches. Another time we caught three good size pike one after another, and they measured 32,34 and 36 inches. Pike are greedy, we often found other pike in their stomach. Fish seem to go in head first and the head dissolves first. Thanks for reminding me of great memories.

@@davejack8973 Agree people always complain about those y bones. You just need to fillet them right but they are real good when freshly caught. When it gets near spring they move in shallow and those flags would be popping all the time , no giants , they would come in later but lots of action.

I completely agree with you! I’ve been really ill and have to stay in bed and so I know that I can turn on the channel and even if I watched it before, I’ll watch it again because their life is how we should all live. We should all live simply and not worry about what we have but we don’t have at the time. I’ll tell you one thing. When we lost our house in a fire you learn real quick what matters. We were never the kind of people that had fancy things nothing like that. We had sentimental things. Like my father completely redoing the table that my whole family ate at growing up and driving it 1300 miles out to me. That’s the kind of things we had sentimental. The only thing I was concerned with when our house was on fire is getting my children out the door and our dogs out the door. Yes you lose your pictures you lose everything literally down to the ground but you have your family and that’s what counts! It would be so easy for me to live off grid if I don’t care about that kind of stuff I’m happy with him canning baking and just taking care of the family. Now our children are grown and take care of themselves but they always need to mom and dad and we are so happy we are still here to do that for them. If they’re not feeling good mom what do you think is good to take well we’ll drop off some bone broth and make you some soup and I’ll pick up the right medicine for you that kind of thing is important to us that we are able to help their children. These guys are amazing because they are very self-sufficient and they’re happy with that they don’t care about what other people have or don’t have they support each other and they always have interesting videos! It doesn’t matter if you’ve had a farm before or not like we did you could always learn something new because you never lived in Alaska things are different up there. I have a friend that lives at the north pole in the city north pole lol. She said the weather has been crazy this year it actually went up to 86° and they say there’s new global warming lol. I love watching these guys fish and they tell us about the different places and they show you the scenery. My family is thinking of taking a trip to Alaska to go fishing at a few places that they’ve been at in the video. I think it would be fantastic

I have been on the lookout for Pike fish in a Filipino Supermarket in out town in Vallejo Ca. I’ll try to buy two big ones and cook them two ways. One is clean the fish but leave the head on. On a baking pan lay down a layer of 2 bunch of scallions and leek cut in 4 lengthwise. Throw in slices of one onion, salt n pepper and smashed one whole garlic. , ginger Add a mix oy 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tbsp oyster , sauce And juice of 2 lemons. Add 3 Tbsp of white vinegar. Cook in oven for 45 minutes or till done. Serve with plain rice. Another is cut the fish into 4 Pcs and cook it in ginger, onion, garlic, salt and pepper. Add two cans of coconut milk. Add the fish when coconut milk starts to boil. You may add Bo hoy . Adjust flavors with salt and pepper. Your Alaskan Adventure is very inspiring. There’s no snow in our part of California. Lake Tahoe is about 3 hours away.

Love your outpost cabin and its surroundings. Traveling, fishing and producing videos in freezing AK outdoors. And you do it with ease 😃 If you ever plan an extended winter stay out there you should try running a trapline.

I fished a great deal when I was younger in northern Quebec. I often used the guts and eyes for bait, of fish I had just caught. It was very successful as it was fresh and self sufficient. Great what you’re doing and makes us feel we’d like to be there.

When you pull in a fish by hand, we stand up and pull 5 foot of line at a time, when you go too slow and have slack, they can shake the hook out, you need constant pressure on them. WE also keep the treble hook by the head of the bait, fish have to eat other fish head first, with the treble hook by the head with some barb showing, you won`t loose as many fish. You two are awesome, I could smell the chipino.

I use frozen peas for ice fishing. Line them around the hole, then when the fish come up to take a pea, you grab them.

Thank you both so much for bringing Alaska to us, here in S.C. You are extraordinary in many ways; ordinary people could not plan as well as you!! Your delicious meals, care for one another, your dogs, your cabin; you leave nothing out. Also, in my opinion, "Simple Living Alaska" should win the You Tube channel award for highest achievement in every category.

I know when I use those Tip - ups and I get a fish on I start pulling up the line gently until I feel some tugging then I give the line a quick little yank to set the hook good. Works good for me and I don’t lose many fish. (Just a suggestion, take it or leave it.)
