The replacement for AR2 you pointed out is not an MP5 in fact it's based on the HK53 which fires a 5.56 round (similar to the one you find on the M4/M16)
You villianize Fake Factory too much. This is exactly what he was posting about. This was just his passion project. He put a lot of work into it. Yet people were pretty much harassing him all over the place because of content that they didn't even have to use. Modders don't have any responsibility to appease the audience of the FREE content. His response to the haters was 100% justified and you can see this even in the comments.
That's not even a MK23... the MK23 is even bigger.
The vanilla pistol for HL2 is an H&K USP (match version), with a silver finish. The USP is, essentially, the baby brother of the MK23. Anyway, FF replaced the vanilla USP (Match) with either the standard or tactical version of the USP. Either way, it's still a USP.

I think people give fantasy games like Oldman's Roll a pass because you know... it's fantasy. People usually don't bat an eye when they see fantasy warrior women wearing chain mail bikinis even if there'll always be modder who remove canon armor's boob curve and make them all flat.
But put them into a military shooter (even a sci-fi one like Half Life), or even a more historical based sword fighting game without the fantasy (still remember certain players bitching and moaning when Mount and Blade got some chain mail bikini mods... before they are simply accepted in the second game)... that's where all the internet bitching moaning squad come in full force.

Fun fact, the rebels in half life 2 also have combat armor, it’s just civil protection combat armor. So theoretically it’s possible for the rebels in this mod to have taken their more militaristic combat vest from the more militaristic combine models added into this mod

The difference is that rebels wearing gear looted from civil protection makes sense within the context of the game. US military TAC-1 SPC plate carriers that look like they jumped straight out of Battlefield do not make sense within the context of the game. Especially since Half-Life 2 takes place in eastern europe.

I feel bad for the guy that made it. He got death threats for such a small thing, it's not a damn replacement of hl2, it's a slight graphical improvement (not exactly), and even though it's horny as fuck, it's still not that bad.

It does seem like that, it also seems like he slowed it down, I switched to 1.25 speed and it sounds way more normal.

Something I remember back in the day that despite the destain for FakeFactory, he had the interest of alot of source modders due to the fact whatever tools he was using allowed him to bypass the usual Source Polygon limits for models.
Also beyond the clothes, all the physical character models he used came from some other 3D modeling library so he didn't actually model Alyx's cervix.
Wasn't _that_ feature in Alyx's model exist because it was originally created for 3D content of an adult variety?

When I tried the mod out it wasn't nearly as bad as people were saying, I enjoyed that the location was set in Latvia, it was nice to see the landscape change, yet the amount of trees in Highway 17 was maybe bit too much. However the fact that theres NSFW graffiti all over the game is annoying.

The hate this got is crazy and the maker was mostly right, think all the models were optional. I remember stumbling across the mod without knowing any of the drama or anything and thought it was alright. I liked that it was different after playing hl2 so many times.

I feel like something that is neglected to be mentioned when Cinematic Mod is brought up that actually sets it apart from every mod that changes HL2's combat. It actually addresses the bullet-sponginess of the enemies by actually making it to where one headshot is lethal with every weapon.
Pair that with the intended method of playing with a crosshair and the LAM on the Mk.23 SOCOM, and you create the most satisfying combat in HL2. That one balance change makes it, to me, the best gameplay mod for HL2. Compared to MMod, Cinematic Mod is way more enjoyable to play.

He kinda has a point, models are optional. I remember playing it at the time only with the HD textures, it was pretty good, but laggy most of times.
I never got onboard the Cinematic Mod hate train. I enjoyed the hell out of it and kept checking out his updates. I never liked his HD models but his attention to detail within his level tweaks were pretty impressive.

This has to be the most overhated mod ever, dudes you can play this mod without the weird character models and also you are not forced to use this on your first playthrough, i have played HL2 like 100 times, and CM2013 a handful of times, this is a fun mod, its just a lil different. You can even pair this with MMOD!

29:16 I'm pretty sure its missing the trigger_transition. This trigger carries stuff over from the previous level into the next one, like npcs and props. It explains why the doors are also missing.
And impulse 101 crashing the game means that there's some "dev" weapons that were removed from the mod files, but not from the code.

If you’re accepting constructive criticism on the video, I think it’d be better if the firing sound comparisons placed each sound directly before its swapped counterpart: I had a hard time remembering what the first weapon sounded like in HL2/E2 by the time you got to what it sounded like in Episode 1.

The worst thing is the overplacement of props, especially like foliage in City 17, trees, ferns etc.
But where his love of detail REALLY REALLY works is in the war zone sequences of late HL2 and Episode 1. The detail of rubble he puts in looks AMAZING

you must remember that the Combine is basically sucking the Earth dry for its resources. The lack of foliage in the original HL2 was mostly due to technical limitations, sure, but it also made sense lore-wise, thematically and aesthetically. At least to me it does.@@madbruv

I think the APC always blows up in highway 17 because in vanilla you push it off a bigger cliff so the author just didnt remove the script for that

With the whole plane thing, I feel like it’s a cool idea, but having it just remain completely intact is definitely an issue. If it was scattered into a bunch of pieces, or maybe even have the bridge itself be sort of repaired partially from the scrap, like say using a wing covered in patchwork metal, then having it there would feel a lot better.

Even though this changed the game dramatically, the depth of the mod is quite extensive and is worthy of praise. The whole purpose was that he wanted it to be as if Half-Life 2 was an action movie, and it does well. Everything is ridiculous in action movies. I think it nailed the aesthetic and overall there's a ton of unique and interesting overhauls never done before and still not done.
A mod quite litterally destroyed by being down bad. It is good that it's only optional tho so I gotta give the creator credit there

He seems totally justified to be angry or rude to critics. That being said, assuming that it doesn't exist a disable option for NSFW content -or at least a warning of specifics- would have been a really thoughtful and great addition to the mod. Personally I can just ignore the dumb stuff. I do think that sexual graffiti can more realistic and immersive though, even if it is debatably worse for the game.

People hate this mod because they have nothing better to do with their lives. It's not like it replaced HL2, it's just a free mod someone posted online. Any mentally well individual will just move on and play something else but there's a vocal minority of terminally online people who can't wait to get behind a hate movement in order to feel like a part of something meaningful.

Im a Game Dev and Im just gonna say how it is, FakeFactory did the mod for his own sake. He put time and effort in it (Because its a mod he cant make money out of it) and there are still people who complain about it. If you gonna complain do it your self. Its time consuming to make stuff like that because you often cant make your own stuff because you need to work around the game and cant really make it perfect. Also a note FakeFactory got threats and all stuff like that. For me, the video sounded a lot like copium (from both sides).
Edit: And the mod is so big, because you asset spam a lot in mods. And I think he didnt bake a lot of stuff.

Its a good mod but i never understood why he never made the nsfw skins/stuff (like the graffiti and many other stuff) being a separate mod, still not a big of the character models except for the combine.

The outrage this mod got feels a bit overblown. Nobody gets that mad at a horny skyrim mod. It's not like he forced everyone to download his version just to be able to play HL2. Honestly it feels more like the HL community being overly obsessed with being faithful to the original game, which is a bit silly to expect from a mod of all things. My only criticism would be maybe separate the aspects out into separate mods rather than just clumping everything together into one titatnic megamod. A texture mod, a map alterations mod, a music mod, mods for separate unique characters and packs for background NPCs, etc. That way you can pick and choose what you want to use without it clashing with the other stuff and not needing 53gb of files you might not use.

Yes, the cheaper AI voice is very noticeable, and it is worth paying more for a smoother, higher end AI voice.

I kinda agree with FakeFactory. If you don't like the mod, dont play it. There's really no need to complain about it.
The thing about that mod that replaces Alyx with Krystal is that the modder got the original voice actor for Krystal to do all of Alyx's lines. Where this mod seems to be a scattershot of all the random features the modder ever thought about, including fully modeled kitty cats, the Krystal mod is on the opposite side of the autism spectrum: Laser-like focus on the one thing the modder absolutely, positively wanted to see in the game.

The crashed plane is a boeing 707 which is a very old model dating back to the fifties. Today practically none are in service except military models. Just something I found more interesting and odd than its crashed position.
All I remember of Cinematic Mod was using it very early on when all he did was retexture Alyx a bit and I wasn't bothered. It wasn't until years later when I saw he completely redid her outfits and gave her a weird new face based on some supermodel or something. I believe my exact thought was "what in the fuck?" Not mad, just weirded out. I can understand being horny for Alyx but what he did to her was eventually make her a totally different character. At that point I just don't understand.
This mod is actually pretty chill if you don’t mind nsfw content. (I don’t. Surprise surprise) it’s got some weird creative liberties, like uh… Americanized looking buildings in an Eastern European setting… weird highways that go over the coast. Etc. I think the game itself look fantastic in terms of visual effects. I love the way the coast takes place at night and in rain. Gives it a whole new vibe. And while the nsfw content is very… out of place in a game like half life… I don’t really care. Alyx kinda bad ngl. I actually wish that the creator had continued to put work into the nsfw stuff bc there was gonna be more “details” if y’know what I mean. (Like alyx getting visually horny with “animations” to go with it. And a sex scene) All in all it’s not a bad mod. People just lose their shit over porn and sexual content in literally anything and ofc they HAVE to let everyone else know how annoyed the are when they could just grow the fuck up and do anything else. Porn isn’t “creepy” nothing wrong with drawing or modeling porn. IM a hentai artist. Im not creepy. Just because YOU do not like it, that doesn’t make the people who DO like it creepy. The concept of “constructing the main characters” how you want them to look is actually really sick. It’s just stupid how pissed off people got over the nsfw stuff. You can just opt out of that and use the original alyx model. ADMITTEDLY there is no way to turn the graffiti off, but that graffiti is wayyy more tame than the actual nude versions of alyx. Plus dirty graffiti isn’t uncommon. What’s more believable? Alyx running around literally fully naked without anyone batting an eye, or nsfw graffiti on the walls of canals and abandoned buildings. You tell me. mod kinda feels like the culmination of someone’s view on half life 2 and what they wanted out of it and I appreciate seeing that perspective. Plus all the amount of work that clearly went into the making of it. I respect the fact that the dude stayed true to what HE wanted out of the mod. He didn’t try to appease people by tailoring it to THEIR standards, he did exactly what he wanted with it, and that’s really fuckin respectable. I don’t even think his response to the hate was bad. If I had spent hours working on something that was just supposed to be a personal project, and all these random people in the comments started bitching about what THEY wanted from it, I would be just as pissed. I just wish he hadn’t quit making it because I can see past all the stupid shitty critiques that people tried to make and see the actual quality and love that went into the making of the mod. Long story short, it definitely didn’t deserve all the hate it received. It’s really not a bad mod at all. If I could contact him somehow I would ask if he’s working on the source 2 version of it just to play on my own because I genuinely love this mod and would love to see more. It’s such a shame that bitchy and unappeasable people drove him to not sharing his work. I would have loved to see the finished result at max potential

Whether you get that or agree is up to you. And if you want to act as though I’m less of a human being because I enjoy both undertale and gawr gura, that shows a lack of maturity on your part. Figured out how to fix it, but in the end I replaced the models anyway
Also the pistol is not a berreta, its the same as before, the HK USP, but for some reason instead of the silver slide its all black. And they got rid of the rail mounted compensator, which rustles my jimmies because the comp is really cool
