- A huge congrats to Airbus and Qantas on the first of many A220's!
On November 30th 2023 after much anticipation, the FIRST QantasLink Airbus A220-300 takes off for the very first time! Qantas; the flag carrier of Australia ordered 29 A220-300's for QantasLink; the regional brand of the airline. Their A220 seats 137 in a 2 class configuration; 10 in business and 127 in economy.
These A220's will be replacing the airline's aging Boeing 717 fleet; in which the airline still operates 13 of them. The A220 is part of Qantas's domestic fleet renewal plan, which will allow the airline to fly these aircraft between major Australian cities while burning less fuel (compared to the 717).
This A220 will eventually be re-registered to VH-4XA, and is named
"Minyma Kutjara Tjukurpa", featuring the artwork of senior Pitjantjatjara artist Maringka Baker. It took 2 weeks for the livery to be completed, with 100 painters and over 20,000 special dots - needless to say but this is a very detailed livery!
Qantas becomes the first Oceanic carrier to operate the A220 (Air Vanuatu ordered the aircraft however they were never delivered).
This A220 becomes the 6th aircraft to join Qantas's flying art series with other famous examples painted on their 737, 787 and 747.
After much anticipation, the aircraft departed Mirabel, Quebec with spectators
watching from both on the ground and in a R-44 helicopter.
After showing off the aircraft's impressive capabilities, the A220 did a long 2 hour test flight north of the airport.

What an awesome catch, the A220 looks stunning in this special livery. What a beauty!
Glad someone was there to record it, looking forward to it finally making it's way to Australia!
Australian passengers will, I believe , be the ones to benefit from this new aircraft. Australian social media reports from those you have flown in the 200 series were highly praising. Thanks Canada and Airbus!
Great footage!
The CS is stunning at the best of times but that is an absolute belter 👌
airbus a220😊
@@DeltaLimaA88 sorry there are 2 teams #a220 and #CS me I go for second team ever
@@DeltaLimaA88 You go your way, I'll go mine. 🤣. Airbus couldn't design something that pretty. Laughs aside I file all my aircraft photos under original designers hence the CS.
Thanks for showing what will replace our long time 717s down under. Looks great. Cheers.
Soon to be ripping off regional customers in Australia.
Qantas have knocked it out the park. Absolutely gorgeous. Can’t wait to see it in Sydney this month!
Beautiful livery. I wonder if Sydsquad will be there to capture it's arrival
I think they are planning to.
It’s absolutely disgusting to look at. Doesn’t even have qantas colours. More woke corporate virtue signalling. Looks like a 5 year old painted it.
Kurt & Tim talk too much,
When does it arrive in Australia?
@@StephenMaher-w7q They do!! They should do a stream without talking and none of that crap with the superchats!
I think more people like Qantas outside Australia.
Try having to fly them if you live in Australia
Qantas is beyond a joke in Australia.
Jetstar is worse than Qantas.
Jetstar makes Virgin look good.
Try living in Darwin and getting decent service. Last trip to Cairns was two days late and via Melbourne……….
If people inside Australia hate Qantas, they should try flying airlines in the USA.
They screwed over their 717 pilots putting this thing on btw
i think they will enjoy the upgrade
Stunning livery on a gorgeous aircraft.
#CS300 #Bombardier
this is a game-changer indeed for Qantas. Congratulation
Awesome right turn! Beautiful airplane!
6:42 ❤
Beautiful capture 😍
Quebec, CANADA, gift to the airlines and passengers.
The nose section is so unique on this aircraft!
Similar to a de Havilland Comet or B787
Fantastic video of this beautiful Airbus A220-300! What a beauty! 🤩👍✈️ Just subscribed to your amazing channel. Keep up your great work! ✈️
Identity crisis, running traditional Air New Zealand colours on a QANTAS aircraft.
This aircraft has a range of about 6500 kms, I wonder where it will refuel?
Honolulu then maybe Fiji.....depends on the arrival airport in Australia. It's been done many times before with similar aircraft.
Simplement MAGNIFIQUE !
The Canadian taxpayers poured so much money into this plane...only to see it all sold to Airbus...the rich get richer.
Not completely true. The program was sold including government loans. Airbus is still responsible for paying those
I really don’t get why the have sold their program to Airbus while they could have run the business and be a strong competitor to Embraer. Still can’t call this plane Airbus while I discovered it as BCseries…
Who gives a rats. Just marvel at this wonderful feat of engineering.
Had Boeing not tried to kill tge program, things might have been different!
The Quebev government still owns 25 per cent.
I'm hoping the next livery qantas will be of a middle aged white man
profile pic says it all…
@@willy13-b2t OK zoomer. At 29 and still living at home. 😳
Beautiful
It looks like an airplane, sounds like an airplane so I guess it is just another airplane.
Well, now we have an idea of what the tail livery would look like if QA ever merged with CX, lol.
Wow, Wow, Wow. No further words necessary, ❤
Great video 👍 😍. What plane is that is parked up Looks like a ftv probably parked for years
See Ibom Air A220
Please capture it flying
When your spotting 😍
From winter to summer flight.
In Canada and not using the international aviation language?
I was wondering that you fly into France the tower is English probably because Trudeau wants to be different
Only in Québec we speak to the atc in French but they perfectly speak English too
@@rons4778nothing to do with Trudeau
Absolutely stunning, incorporating arts and culture on a flying canvas
Correction, the final registration will be VH-X4A. You are show this correctly in your description but incorrectly in the video and main wording below the video. Thanks for sharing this, as an Australia I look forward to seeing these A220's in the air here.
That Indigenous livery looks WONDERFUL On that plane. Qantas should make more beautiful Liverys like that
Notice the pilot and air. traf control. speaking in french. This plaane was designed and is built in the french speaking part of Canada. A source of pride for many. Great job. Happy flying
Awesome!!❤❤❤
Great to see another Canadian made aircraft
Alabama USA as well now. Good point tho..
Assembled in Alabama from global materials. Designed in Canada. And parts trucked from Mirabel Quebec to Mobile.
How disappointing that it is not even in Qantas colours. More indigenous virtue-signalling nonsense. The promotional blurb actually specifies 20,000 dots. Wow; that would take a lot of kindergartens.
Stunning colours ❤
Beautiful A220 Qantas ✈️💚
It is going to be a long time before we see any of these on the Western Australian regional routes. We will just have to continue to be happy with 30 year old Fokkers.
Stunning! Can’t wait to see her down under
I watched that exact plane do tests on flightradar24. Honorably going to Qantas.
Indigenous livery but how many of the painters were actually Australian Aboriginals? Regardless she is a beautiful bird.
Actually, it is VH-X4A Not VH-4XA
Just done 5 QF flights of which 2 International sectors in Business- all very average and not a patch n Emirates or BA
What a great livery nice shot 👍✅
What an amazingly beautiful livery!
Like the special paint jobs very much
Any plane spotting locations for YMX besides Icar?
Which QantasLink operator will this plane be assigned to?
From CANADA with love
Pourquoi la société a construit cette appareil ?
On dirait un 319'
Another plane covered in woke virtue signalling. Looks filthy. Maybe just try and run your planes on time and offer affordable flights
💯
So dopey.
Uhhhhhm it’s still flying on its first flight 2weeks later…
What a beauty!
Can't wait for routes to Hobart!!!
I can sight another ibom air aircraft in Canada
Beautiful livery and plane !
I’ll laugh when the airbus aircraft doesn’t live up to the hype. Thanks Allan ya 🤡
Tf are you on it has been around for years now
Nice, but should have had a red tail
absolutely agree, the Red Tail is a must.
no the new livery looks nice
Spectacular!
Did you know my dad work there
How about they stop wasting money on woke oxymoron crap and give us reliable and cheap flights?
In the description you say it will eventually be re-registered to VH-4XA. I think that should read X4A, not 4XA. It's correct in the data further down.
Wooow❤❤❤
kool paint job
Buen video 👌🍷🧐✈️
What A Beautiful Air Craft The A220 Are Congratulate Qantas For First Airbus A220-300.Great Video
Looks good, wish BA Cityflyer would ordered A220-100.
Also what happened to the A220 sitting outside by the taxiways?
Mark thank you for recording this departure of QANTASLINK's 1st A220.
As usual it is of an excellent standard.
Saw this in Vancouver today, it looks awesome!
Holy livery that is astonishing
Yes 20,000 of those little multi green dots!
The livery is so nice, I’m glad it’s home in Sydney now. I hope I see it soon!
Why is ATC speaking french?..
because french is the offical laungauge in Montreal. Canada has two offical laungauges, English and French
b
Why the green? Qantaslink has been red and white until now.
because it’s australian indigenous culture dot painting and the green actually looks good
art
Canadian dollars given freely to Airbus.
Such a stunning livery! Green looks gorgeous on a Qantas tail
How does this A220 fly from Quebec Canada to Australia? Are there special ferry fuel tanks installed????
would most likely stop in Honolulu and Nadi before probably heading onto Sydney
Excellent footage…….thanks Mark
Should've bought Max
nice plane spotting 😍
How long before she lands in Australia?
Best livery ever. Good capture.
Your camera work is stunning
Nice airplane - boring video!
I thought all ATC communications are done English..?
Nope. Home country language and English. ie A french pilot in Greece territory will hear Greek being used for local pilots but will communicate in English to the Greek controller. Its like an accepted default language when one or either cant use the local language.
Rest in peace bombardier 😢
Don’t like it
cry about it
Nice 🛫✈️
Can you record the airfrance a320 coming to yul tomorrow since it is a rare flight
it's not rare
i saw it on fl24 :D
Love the livery and side view of this bird. Quite an addition to the fleet! ✈️
I'm just disappointed that Qantas didn't buy more of the a220!
The initial order agreement in 2022 was for 40 firm orders: 20 A220-300, 20 A321XLR plus 94 options for a total of 134 narrow body (single aisle) aircrafts. Then last summer they converted nine of the 94 options which bring the status to now 49 firms (29 A220-300s and 20 A321XLRs) and remaining 85 options. In a very dynamic cut-throat airline/travel business industry this arrangement allows Qantas the flexibility to gauge what they need on a year-by-year basis, then pick and choose from the remaining 85 options to convert into firm orders. The options are A220-100 on one end (being the smallest, lightest=most fuel saving, ability to take off on short runways), A220-300 [?, 320...321?] (everything in the middle), to the opposite end A321XLR (being the largest capacity and longest range of the three).
Qantas has a huge order for Airbus aircraft. The reason they only announced the A321XLR and A220 initial orders is because Boeing and critics couldn’t say anything. Boeing does not have any aircraft in that category.
@@yummysatay that makes sense. 29 is a good start, considering it is so flexible for Qantas.
What a beautiful livery!
Qantas would be better off in improving their appalling service and staying out of politics.
What’s this got to do with politics
What has upgrading their fleet got to do with politics?
Qantas is extremely left wing.
You know Qantas has been doing indigenous designs for decades now right? This is not a “new political move”
@@porkmashups2990
Qantas has for decades showcased Aboriginal Livery designs, but until only recently have pushed other leftist agendas to make them look like one of the most annoyingly woke companies in Australia. They now employ Aboriginal, diversity and female "equal opportunity" recruitment techniques.
Qantas supported the Gay marriage plebiscite, World pride and every Mardi Gras.
They have recently forced the consumer to partake in their green initiatives which inevitably end up increasing seat cost.
And they have a very questionable relationship with the Labor Party.
Western Sydney Airport NSW is FINALLY Home.😊🎉❤
Nice Aircraft but........why do they have to use Green Aboriginal painting of this aircraft when it should be the original red tail and white Kangaroo ! Just to please the minority......again !
I’m not indigenous and I love it. Nothing wrong with colour variation once in a while.
Yeah its controversial but its a beatiful livery regardless
So she's done her first flight, now I suppose the engines have had the max hours and need to be changed already???
Don’t worry it won’t be in the air long before the engine problems and cracks show up!
