It's a freaking STAGE SELECT SONG.
They ROCKED A STAGE SELECT SONG.
HOW DO THEY DO IT?!
They're the Megas.
They're awesome.
That's all the explanation necessary. :3
You think THIS is awesome? Check "The Message from Dr. Light" from Get Equipped/Acoustic. The base song for that one is 32 notes spanning FIVE SECONDS.
It's because it rocked before; The Megas aren't doing anything special with the music; the source material is just that good. A good composition always shines through whatever treatment it is given. Music from Rockman/MegaMan has always rocked, and has always been good.
I'm glad that The Megas are helping people appreciate this music which was so influential to me as a child, but I'm not a fan of The Megas; putting lyrics to these melodies feels forced and disingenuous to me, and it kind of sounds like Nickelback decided to write a bunch of songs using melodies from Rockman/MegaMan. Obviously they can play their instruments, but it's not for me; I much prefer The Advantage and The Minibosses.
The Timesmyth I would disagree about the Nickelback part, but that's just me. We can all have opinions.
Well, because The Megas.......
ARE JUST THAT FREAKING AWESOME
(And Megaman music is pretty amazing for 8-bit stuff)
"How dare he call me son? I'm clearly a weapon, a loaded gun."
Sounds Like Something Protoman Would Say.

Or X after receiving another armor from Dr Light he will use to slaughter old friends who can't be saved.
I don't know why, but this song makes me cry.
Perhaps because the feelings in this song are so human and relatable - feeling lost, alone, without a goal and trying to distract yourself from the hopelessness of your life with luxutries, gadgets or entertainment (I can fly on a dog) which are in the end just a distraction; feeling remorse to authority - be it God, parents, governments or rest of humanity - for making the world you live in like it is, and feeling you can't make any impact with it, so you just stop protesting and quietly roll with momentum (I was built to make a choice/sent to war without one).
And the pacing is great, and I think personally the line "Underwater!" is a masterstroke, taunting the viewer - "look how good your life is! You're got all this cool stuff other people don't have! What are you bitching about, you pansy!". Also this is adaptation of a "stage select" song from Megaman 3 which pretty much fits, since people have this moment of doubt usually when they run out of goals to complete, and have to set themselves new ones - and reflect on state of their current lives.
To me it's the most interesting recent interpretation of Megaman (I think it's less philosophically contrived and as such more human than Protomen version) - though do take my opinion ith a grain of salt as I haven't read Archie Comics Megaman (I plan to correct that soon), which based on universal praise it receives even from people for whom this is first exposure to Megaman + the fact that I love comics willl probably quickly take number my number one spot. But even if, this song will be a solid second place.
shinobody Man, if you were one of my English students, you'd get an A+.

This is your answer, another machine?
+shinburner The comics drop a few lyrical references to some fan artists (The Megas, brentalfloss, meme references), so I wonder if perhaps their interpretation was in part inspired by artists like the Megas.
I don't understand why people thinks this is "a light-hearted/goofy song about a boy and his dog". It's clearly Mega Man still struggling with his actions and possible future of fighting and killing other robots, viewing himself as a weapon, not a robot or Light's son. While much of the song is pretty much Rock singing about all these great things Rush can do, he ends with "no shoulder to cry on a dog". Because for all these things Rush can do, he can't give Rock that emotional support he desperately needs.
It's bc if you listen to the original game music, it IS a happy-go-lucky tune.
@@cardemis7637 Yeah, the original is a light-hearted tone, but not in this regard, especially with the lyrics provided. The Megas' version is somber.
Exactly!
When I first heard it, I thought it was goofy just because of Rush's depiction and the chorus. That isn't nearly the case now, even if those are still on the sillier side.
“なきごとばはきかねえぜ!“-Rush
For a song called, 'Fly on a Dog,' this song is unusually depressing and emotional.
The Megas almost always have a deeper emotion to the thought of the song, and this definitely is no exception. "You must take the life of one" but the rules of Robotics forbid robots from harming humans. There is just so much; emotion and depth to this song. Hard to not "squee" over it.
@@MrThetronica You are aware the Issac Asimov story where he establishes the "Three Laws of Robotics" also undermines those laws by pointing out any robot capable enough to need them also has the intellectual capacity to think around them? The "laws" are at best ineffective at the stated purpose of protecting humanity from self-aware robotic intelligences, and are at worst a ruleset that will eventually force humanity into zoos for "our own protection".
It gets you depressed and un-depressed multiple times
"Just Another Machine" is even more emotional. It's my preferred mix of this song.
This just hit me. This is a song about making a choice, and *it lifts the melody straight from the stage select theme from Mega Man 3!*
I knew it was stage select, but the connection never hit till now.
MegaMan: It was you who built this uncertainty!
Dr. Light: But the burden in your heart, I did not put there...
EDIT: I feel like those robotic beeps at 0:54 symbolize Rush trying to cheer up his new Master, because he is a good b01.
Programmed to Fight, except instead of Crash Man it's Rush, and it's Programmed to Chase the Ball
That is one sweet Rush redesign.
"I can, driiiiive on a dog... UNDER WATER!!!!!!!"
hahahahahaa xD
+Zire02 in a dog. He can drive IN a dog.
dive*
+Luis Fernando
he was right it actually is drive
Just another machine...
God, they get deep with this stuff...
Their subject matter keeps getting heavier.
It's not the most intuitive thing if you know the source material but it works astonishingly well.
Not emo, theres nothing emo about being tired. Take the lives of enough of your kind, and the grandeur of'being the one' and being a savior loses its luster.(old comment is old i know)
Making me think that Continue isn't Dr. Light lamenting as he fixes Mega Man, but as Mega Man mourns his brother. And this is Mega Man realizing he was never his "son", but his weapon.
"Also known as the existential crisis of a Robotic Canine"
No shoulder to cry on a dog...
I think this song perfectly capture venting your problems to your dog. Every now and then it does something kinda cute (I can Fly on a Dog) to interrupt you.
You know it's a MegaMan song right?
I mean, megaman flies on a dog. the dog is called rush. he's on the cover.
i think this personality suits him more than any other could. and he clearly was made to be a weapon. and since he is a robot with human emotion how would you feel if all you were wanted for was to fight to save people that didnt even try to help you
I now excitedly scream “underwater!” Whenever I can. Thanks Megas
Ol, so they took one of the sexiest guitar licks I've ever heard, dropped it into the background, and chopped it in HALF???
Thank FUCK this version still exists! Amazing how one little change alters the dynamic of the song so completely.
for 2 seconds i thought you said one of the most sexist guitar licks and was like ???? how can a guitar be sexist
Where there's a will there's a way
what was the original guitar lick?
chaoarecool Starts at 0:24
Oh also as a response to that whole " He says he wants to be the one right? That means he shouldn't be sad." That's like saying that when a soldier volunteers to be in the army that he shouldn't feel sad every time he kills someone, machines have no emotion or pity, that's the point. Megaman thinks as himself as more human then machine and also has emotions like humans, that's what makes megaman special.
These guys should be bigger than they are. I love their music. MEGAS RULE!
this is the stage select theme. its amazing how they were able to take that 20 second, looping track and make it into an epic song. i love the megas :D
a dark emotional song called fly on a dog made from a level select theme with the lyrics "i can drive in a dog......UNDER WATER!!!!!" somehow works perfectly
Lyrics:
I feel so far from home
Though you stand beside me, I feel alone
I've been built to make a choice
Sent to war without one, let's destroy
Your light is going out on me
Humanity is not what it seems
As reality plays my darkest dreams
I can fly on a dog
The end is too far for us to see
I'll make it with you here next to me
I jump high on a dog
He says, son, to save the lives
You must take the life of one, Wily dies.
How dare he call me son?
When I'm clearly a weapon, a loaded gun.
Father hides the truth, in fear
Maybe if he ignores it, we'll disappear.
Why did he give me voice?
And still choose not to hear me, just white noise.
Your light is going out on me
It was you who built this uncertainty
This is your answer - another machine.
I'm just another machine.
Humanity is not what it seems
As reality plays my darkest dreams
I can fly on a dog
The end is too far for us to see
I'll make it with you here, next to me
I can drive in a dog (Underwater!)
Shoulder to cry on a dog
Be glad you got the dog and not the bird
*****
You can set it to explode, and throw it at someone you don't like. You now have one less robot bird, and one less person you don't like.
***** Beat is actually very useful
The bird, named Beat, was build by Dr.Cossack as a thankyou gift for saving his daughter or some shit. Megaman 4. Dr.Cossack was my favorite Dr. of the series, he's russian and badass, his castle was a beast to beat.
***** Clearly you've never met Jacques.
+Botar Akutabi I now want the Megas to do Rockman 4....
All jaws have officially dropped!
What a dark and depressing Stage Select.
Yeah Megaman doesn't exactly have a feel-good job. Well, short of being a psycho. The Protomen are running pretty much the same interpretation on his personality, at least after the Protoman event.
@IAmTheMagnetMan That's the point of the album "Get Equipped". The whole album after "The Message Form Dr. Light" is showcasing the eight robot masters and their personalities, desires and fears, as the album continues the depleting robot masters are getting t
@ChosenofKane That fact is also implied to be the case in this cannon also, for two reasons: One is that the storyline itself isn't changed from the NES games in this cannon, just the character's personalities and motivations, the other is that in "I Want to be the One" Mega Man is clearly enthusiastic about being the world's saviour and determined
killer002099 I hear "As reality plagues my darkest dreams" Rather than "As reality plays my darkest dreams"
#TheMegas Do you have the proper lyrics somewhere?
Nicky Pulrazer #Sarcasm Ya DON'T say! But the reality of the situation; that he may not be in the right, could be his darkest dream, and as he conquers forth all of Wileys robots. That could be plaguing him.
MrThetronica I just like that the following line implies that flying on a dog is among Rock's darkest dreams...
The Megas website has lyrics under 'Media,' I'm pretty sure near every original song they've written is on there somewhere.
Phosphoraisme
you think I didn't look?
@@MrThetronica From their website, under 01: Fly On A Dog - History Repeating: Red. I'm assuming this lyric will be the same because it's a shared chorus between all three versions of the song.
"Humanity is not what it seems
As reality plays my darkest dreams"
I also wish it said "plagues" instead. :(
Father hides the truth in fear, maybe if he ignores it we'll disappear.why did he, give me a voice? and still choose not to hear me, JUST WHITE NOISE. Your light is going out on me, it was you who built this uncertainty. This is your answer? another machine?... I'm just another machine... humanity is not what it seems, as reality plays my darkest dreams i can, FLY ON A DOG. The end is too far for us too see, but maybe with you here next to me i can, drive in a dog. UNDERWATER.
@IAmTheMagnetMan That's the point of the album "Get Equipped". The whole album after "The Message Form Dr. Light" is showcasing the eight robot masters and their personalities, desires and fears, as the album continues the depleting robot masters are getting more and more terrified of their inevitable death at the hands of Megaman, at the end of the album Megaman realizes that the robot masters had thoughts and feelings and he took their lives in order to save the world, thi
It's from their EP, it's got this song, a melodic tech remix of it, a cover of that song from the movie the wizard (I don't know why either) and some German song. It's to hold you over for red.
i agree the song is emo but they are building a story 1st megaman wanting to fight for what he believes 2 asking Light if he is really doing the right hing after his victory
now here he clearly snapped and killed Wily ((about damn time)) and now feels horrible cause he stepped over the line between robot and war machine
plus he feels he can;t turn to anyone.
trust me you;dbe emo as hell too
Choose your robot master=Choose your pokemon master!
You guys still at 11k subs? The heck... No excuse peeps, Start subbing! This band has done more greatest hits of their times and our times than I can count offhand~
This mix is definitely more loud and epic sounding, but I kinda like the Just a Machine version's more melancholy music a bit more.
If you listen again to "Lamentations of a War Machine," Rock has some feelings of 'what am I?" and regret, but they're not that strong. Throughout History Repeating I, he begins to question his purpose and creator more and more, especially egged on by Snake Man in "Walk Away From Light" and Magnet Man in "Don't Mess With Magnet Man." These feelings, especially coupled with Protoman's meddling and whatever happened at the end of "(I Want to Be the One) To Watch You Die," lead him down this path.
Only in the American version - in the Japanese version, he puts his Mega Buster down, giving Bass enough time to rescue Wily.
There's also the point that Megaman is basically a child...
the song tell a story and i love it , it like a fanfic as music
Additionally, he sees Light's creation of Rush as "just another machine" to fight this endless war he and Wily have begun. And in light of this fact (no pun intended, I assure you) He sees himself no longer as Light's son, but as as his father's personal tool of destruction.
What if...Christian rock and video gamers rock...Return Rock into the mainstream as the New Wave of Alternative Power Pop Rock.
on Vile well maybe the megas can show just how crazy he is or show why he went crazy in the first place.(apparently it was circuit defects.) and assuming they make it to x-3 maybe they can show that he came back wrong after his death. his song will definitely be Vile's theme. Highway is X's song all the way. Now what they do with Zero will definitely be Amazing, maybe even a song calling out Wily for causing so much death despite his ''good intentions''.
before getting sealed away.
Top Man is a wimp, no matter how much he Promises, he has no chance of Redemption.
Actually, I remember hearing that after finishing with MM3, they want to do X, and give some attention to MM9 and 10.
theMegas needs to make something completely explaining their interpretation of the Mega Man story line.
For what I've heard they picture the mavericks as freedom fighters and Megaman as a traitor to the robots a cold blooded hitman.
kaiju_kun64 They won't for several reasons
1- They all have different interpretations of each song
2 - They don't want to give one absolute explanation or interpretation because then people would take them as word of god and stop coming up with their own theories about the songs
@@lmeza1983 No, I think you're taking it the wrong way. While The Megas acknowledge that Dr. Wily is fighting for world domination, they also acknowledge that there is nuance to the story. Dr. Light is flawed just like all of us human beings. He failed Proto Man. But he tries to be a good father to Mega Man.
Meanwhile, a majority of the songs are sung from the perspective of the evil robots, which is probably what makes you think of the mavericks as freedom fighters. The problem is, *only the mavericks see it that way in their distorted perception of the world.* In reality, they're fighting for the right to oppress mankind.
Elec Man's song is about overthrowing all human leaders and replacing them with robot elites.
Bomb Man: "Obliteration... the humans' chance has passed!"
Spark Man: "Humans are no more!"
Snake Man: "Give in to temptation. We'll build a new nation, you and I. Let the people die!"
Doc Robot (in Make Your Choice): "Mankind is obsolete."
And I could go on. Do those sound like the words of heroic freedom fighters? Well, as many things are, a lot of this is about perspective. They've been indoctrinated into thinking that mankind must be replaced. But the lyrics clearly display that many of the robots are purely evil.
But still... we have sympathy for Wily.
Wily (in What Have You Done): "Rise up now, my sons. There's much to be done." And then... "You've destroyed my children. You've forced my retribution."
Dr. Light is on the right side, but that doesn't mean he's always right. And that doesn't mean we can't have sympathy for the bad guys.
I feel so, far from home,Though you stand beside me, i feel alone.I've been built to make a choice, sent into a war without one.lets destroy. Your light is going out on me. humanity is not what it seems, as reality plays my darkest dreams, i can, FLY ON A DOG. the end is too far for us too see, but maybe with you here next to me. i jump high on a dog. He says "son, to save their lives, you must take the life of one, wily dies" how dare he call me son, when im clearly a weapon, a LOADED GUN.
i'm looking foreword to the Megas version of the Mega Man Killers. it'll be awesome. and most of the Killers are named after music: Enker,(enka) Punk, Ballade, maybe they'll remix the songs after those genres?
Well damn... the Megas reached a new level of songwriting with this one. Awesome!
I'm pretty sure it's "I'll make it with you here next to me."
I think this is my favorite song on the entire album. I can relate to some uncertainty of the answers I get in my life, but I've got my friends and my mom to get me through the day.
It seems this album is all about *puts sunglasses on* the Blues
The song is so dark yet so awesome! I've anticipated this song since Magfest, the wait was well worth it! Thank you Megas so much for sharing the single with us!
thanks and yeah it was because there was no lyrics anywhere when this first came out, so i listened as closely as i could to share them with others (hence why there might be an error or 2).
i don't repeat things in the video in the comments section cause that's annoying.
hm~ That countdown on their website~...
Wait, what? *Runs off*
This is the stage select theme, right?
It also sounds like bass. he has a dog, and he is basically a weapon. Another machine ZERO :)
Finally a (very good) remix from the Boss Select Screen of MM3!
I can't play Mega Man 3 anymore without this song playing in my head. Every time I use Rush, and of course, whenever I select a stage. CURSE YOU MEGAS!
So that's why in the American version when Mega Man Says I am more than a robot Die Wily! he puts down his buster for some reason.
I, personally, can't wait for a studio-quality recording of "I'm Not the Break Man".
What if Rush was as sentient as Megaman? What would his thoughts be during this song?
Bark bark woof
But Rush IS sentient lol
I believe he stated in MM7 that "I AM MORE THAN A ROBOT!"
yeah
This is apparently a single, it's a glimpse to History Repeating: Red, much like You've sparked a war was to History Repeating: Blue. I read it quickly on their webpage.
well, except for the part where his father says "wily dies."
I get the feeling that the Megas are going to skip 4, 5,6,7,8, hope they manage to make a song about Bass though. I wonder how the Mega's are going to portray X, Zero, Vile, Sigma? the X album is going to be so kickass, the Song i'm looking forward to is the highway, can't be the only one. on a side note wonder what the new album is going to be called? Super Megatainment system?
That's... Actually really deep.
Same in this version. Rock volunteered to become Mega Man to stop Wily, but after killing the Robot Masters, he starts to regret his actions.
Sorry for your loss, but don't go cheap on that taxidermy. Get it done right.
@ChosenofKane To stop Wily, this is to add a greater dramatic effect and to see how much he has changed.
is good the lyrics can't drive in a dog (underwater) seems forced can't dive in a dog would make more since. love the song you guys are the best
When are you guys release History Repeating: Red? I'm so excited for it!!!
Woah, you're totally right.
No shoulder to cry on a dog....
BEST
CHRISTMAS PRESENT
EVER
You guys just sing about classical Megaman, or X, Zero, ZX too?
One more reason why The Megas are Better than you.
taxidermy him into a hoverboard. Problem solved.
Flying on a dog all arguements are now invailed.
A weird thought, but since the version of the Mega Man universe that The Megas have in their songs is different from the original universe from the games, what if this Mega Man becomes completely disillusioned and decides to, as Snake Man puts it, "walk away from light," becoming Proto Man? I know it's not how things happened in the official storyline, but neither is Mega Man becoming disillusioned and angry at being made to be a weapon, since in the games he chose to be turned into a combat robot when he was built as an assistant originally. Just a weird theory, and I know I'm most likely wrong XD
That "some German song" is an arrangement of the German opening for the Mega Man animated series. Just thought that you should know.
I am rather hoping for an answer from the artists on this one. This song portrays Rock extremely different from your other works, specifically making it seem as though he resents Dr. Light and has lost his conviction in the fight against Dr. Wily. Traditionally, Rock fought on his own volition, deeming it to be the right thing to do. What has changed? Is the idea that Light ordered Rock to fight this time, thereby removing Rock's autonomy? Or is Rock just having a bad day?
what about Proto man? he was the first one and He clearly has emotions, isn't he more special? while I like Mega Man having emotions and being not just a mindless machine who follows orders, wouldn't that throw away the premise of the x series? so according to the other guy feeling remorse for Killing Robots who had no choice in being evil,(except the ones who want to be evil) makes you emo? my god emo Gets thrown a lot.
No offense, but the original Rock character was just that, a boring killing robot. Remember in MM9 when he thought how ridiculous it was for robots to want anything other than to fulfill their programming?
Do we then combine them into purple?
Well, the way I see it, it's not so much that Mega Man no longer wants to be the one. Of course he wants to save humanity, but the problem he faces is (at least in this version), he has to possibly KILL someone. That's against his way of thinking.. Much like Avatar Aang, Mega Man feels conflicted and even betrayed at the thought of his father telling him to kill.
Jasper - Sky On a Dog
What about on the Get Equipped album? I Want to be the One is about how he wants to be the one, right? I guess by the time we reach Lamentations of a War Machine he becomes an emo protagonist.
tfw no shoulder to cry on a dog
Is this a weapon select screen?
Wily makes a passing mention of the first law in (I believe) Mega man 7, ("Wait! A robot can't hurt a human!") to which Mega Man responds "I am more than a robot" and prepares to kill Wily. Come to think of it, I can't remember how Wily escapes.
I'm pretty sure it was a fake Wily, hmm any one wanna replay it and find out?
Bass saves him.
@@MechaKnuckles it's been forever since I played through 7. Forgot that Bass bails him out at the last second.
My mind was blown when Wily thought Charge Man could actually fight MegaMan, Chargey is so damn cute! He chop-choo chooses MegaMan to DIE! Also, Strike Man.
I only just realised this is going to be a song, holy shit this will be awesome. Unless... this is a new album, and not just a one off song?
This was written when the video just came out and you couldn't find the lyrics anywhere. This guy is awesome.
At least in this incarnation. In canon, Rock volunteered to become Mega Man after Wily stole the other Robot Master's.
dolan plz
Ah! I see what you did there! Also, that braggart needs to learn his place, he is Programmed to Fight, not dance!
it probably will
this is their new single consider it a sneak peek at history repeating red
