Not to start an argument but it would be fair to say "the protomen" version of him is a contender for coolest. I havent listened to the megas enough to judge for myself though, but listen to the protomen if you havent, it is *very* loosely based on the original story lmao
It may cause depression. it's from the archie comics: Dr light worked for the military making robots. His first robot was named blues. His core was corrupted so very little damage would kill him. He was unable to fight. Light looked into it and found out that the core directed power to his decision making code AKA his will making blues able to have free will. Free will was illegal for robots to have (violation of the 3 laws) so dr light had no choice but to kill him. Blues escaped before he got the chance. But soon he took damage from a gun shot and died. However dr wily a criminal found him and fixed him including his free will. Wily gave him no instructions, no orders, no laws. Just live. Wily however was bent on revenge because he was fired for accidentally breaking a peace treaty between the US and Japan. So wily wanted to take over the military and eventually wanted the whole world. Meanwhile dr light made 2 robots to replace him as he thought blues was dead. Rock and roll. Rock later turned into megaman to fight dr wily.... then he found blues. Renamed break man. And breakman said "if your my father's son what am I supposed to be?" Megaman was a replacement for breakman.

This song always gives me chills. I've always seen Protoman as a tragic character, but this song just amplifies it. Especially the line, "made you from parts of me", it really drives home that Blues was just a prototype, that Light would use to make his "real" son.
Except, that's not really the lore. What happened was that Protoman had a faulty core, and Dr. Light wanted to fix it so he didn't lose him. However, there was a risk that Protoman could lose his personality, so, he ran away as to not risk it. Dr. Light never wanted to give up on Blues, but he could never find his first son. So, he learned from his mistakes, refined the core, and used it for Rock and Roll. In the Archie Comics, Protoman saw him with those two, and thought they were his replacements, when in reality, they were made with the idea that if Blues returned, he would have a family. Blues misunderstood the situation. Dr. Light does have flaws, but to say he didn't care about Blues is ludicrous.
@@winters_revolt That's the part of the core Blues thought it happen. One of my favorites for sure (in an album full of them!), you can just feel a barely-contained rage as it slowly gets overtaken by confusion, ending up in a deep sadness by 3:47
I sometimes go back to these songs and listen to them, and this one is still one of the best songs I know. I often forget that it is in service to a rock opera about video games because it's very poetic and plaintive. Struggling with identity is such a human thing, and this is a very human song. The duality of him despising Light, feeling resentment towards Rock, yet still seeing him as a brother and ultimately not really wanting to hurt him is very clear and cuts deep. It feels like an estranged kid that has step-siblings that he knows his parent likes better, but still loves those siblings just the same.
Kind of tragically poetic when you think about it. It shows just how run down and in need of repairs Blues really is. By all accounts he should been long dead, but was brought back by Wily. While he's still able to think and act for himself, Protoman is still in a severe state of disrepair.
I've listened to this song probably hundreds of times since it came out and I've never realized that before. Holy shit, that's awesome. Thank you so much for pointing that out!
The best part is it fits. Rock feels like he's being turned into a weapon. That's why Blues is so angry. He was a weapon too, but THIS weapon gets to be part of the family.
It only just occurred to me that "How do you kill a man who has your face" can refer to the fact that Rock and Blues share the same face with how they're designed, modeled after Light's.... Meaning he doesn't know how to kill Rock...but also he *hides his face* When he appeared as Breakman. How do you kill a man who has your face? If you never see it, it's a lot easier.
The determinism dilemma is a serious philosophical problem that only becomes more difficult to ignore as social and behavioral science continue to explain the forces that determine our behavior in more detail and the possibility of things like unconscious biases causing us to act against our own values becomes something you have to face in everyday life. It seems very rare to get a frank acknowledgement of the possibility of the determinist position that our will is a "ruse."
I enjoy a lot of these songs, but this one really grabs me. One, it sounds fantastic in general. Next up, the thematic elements and story inherent in the lyrics really do give you a complete tale. Lastly, for reasons I'm not going to get into I've often felt like an outsider in most social interactions and this song really resonates with the feeling of being lost on the outside looking in.
is it ironic that my favorite megas song has the least actual _song from the game_ in it? seriously, i consider this song an actual masterpiece and i used to listen to it, like, ALL the time. it's weird to think that it's based on the weapon get theme???
I just came here to say that I got into Megaman and The Megas (alongside the Protomen) when I was a young teen / kid, and this music genuinely shaped a lot of music I'd go on to listen to and enjoy. If you're The One, My Father's son

the way these guys add so much depth to the megaman series.... i'm now inspired to write a novelization of the series...
That's what I'm gonna try and do, this song was the tipping point for the inspiration
They definitely managed to help turn a series of games that amounts to "grumpy old men with robots" into a true epic.
Let me know when you're done, okay? That sounds incredible!
OOOH GOODIE! WHERE IS IT!? IM SUBBING IF YOU ADD IT TO YOUR CHANNEL!
Please do.
And remember, if you don't want to have to deal with copyright, change the names and tweak some details.
Just make sure you don't rip of _The Protomen._ They've already put their own twist on the general story (3 albums and a short film music video called 'Light Up the Night').
You know, when you put into context everything Protoman went through, this song hits way harder than Impact Man
When the fans put more effort into flushing out a story than the creators.
Sometimes I can’t see the blue through the red
Hard to see the good through your trail of dead
You say you’ll do all you can to save them
Killing your own won’t make you human
I woke to turn this man to cinder
Circuits afire as I remember
Again I hear a promise spoken
My rage repairs what once was broken
They lost me
Forgot me
Made you from parts of me
If you’re The One
My Father’s son
Then what am I supposed to be?
You say these things you do are what you choose
This thing you call your will I call a ruse
We follow our path, we walk the program
I’ve accepted the machine I am
I wear a mask to hide what’s been erased
How do you kill a man who has your face
My heart is gone there’s only fire
I’ve met my maker and the man’s a liar
They lost me
Forgot me
Made you from parts of me
If you’re The One
My father’s son
Then what am I supposed to be?
What am I?
I had a name
My father called me Blues
He tore my heart from my chest
To give to you
I’m not broken
I’m not the Breakman
I was the first
I am the Protoman!
They lost me
Forgot me
Made you from parts of me
If you’re The One
My father’s son
Then what am I supposed to be?
What am I supposed to be?
Thank you so much for the lyrics! People like you who take the time to write them out always brighten my day.
@@TheDaphinator Agreed.
“I’ve met my maker, and the man’s a liar”
deep cuts guys
Like seriously
deep cuts
One of my favorites for sure (in an album full of them!), you can just feel a barely-contained rage as it slowly gets overtaken by confusion, ending up in a deep sadness by 3:47
Yeah, and the amount of detail put into this song, which is created out of a 30 second jingle, is incredible.
It's not for a rock opera though, is it? That's the Protomen, the Megas just do/did lyric covers of the games' soundtracks.
I never realized Protoman is flesh and bone on the cover
Kind of tragically poetic when you think about it. It shows just how run down and in need of repairs Blues really is. By all accounts he should been long dead, but was brought back by Wily. While he's still able to think and act for himself, Protoman is still in a severe state of disrepair.
the heartbeat at 4:05 is the best.
Albireo I think I won't be able or willing to unhear that :)
I've listened to this song probably hundreds of times since it came out and I've never realized that before. Holy shit, that's awesome. Thank you so much for pointing that out!
Holy moly I never realized that drum beat was a heart beat. Thank you!
This is weirdly fun to discover a song this good thanks to tfwiki jokes.
I liked the part that started at 0:00
The part that went on till 5:40? I loved that part too.
@@markrode9699Exactly
I really love the impact this song has, amazing lore to the lyrics for Protoman
I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
And this is built from the "weapon get" music
"Can we make a song out of a 30 second loop"
"Hell YEAH we can!"
The best part is it fits. Rock feels like he's being turned into a weapon. That's why Blues is so angry. He was a weapon too, but THIS weapon gets to be part of the family.
I thought I heard it from somewhere.
Phoenix Storm Jr. all their songs are made from the megaman ost
@@john-xn8od Still impressive they made a 30 second loop into a 5 min, 40 sec long song.
Oh god this song brings back so many memories. This is what got me into Megaman in the first place.
If you never see it, it's a lot easier.
reminds me of the empire strikes back with luke and vader on dagobath
I've been hearing the lyric "hides your face", but this makes a lot more sense, and makes the song a lot darker as a result.
I mean it’s pretty easy for solid snake to do it like 4 times
I though protoman eye is green or blue
I think Rock also literally has his old face. The song mentions using Blues for parts for him.
"He tore my heart from my chest to give to you."
Aw yeah, I love this song. One of the album's best and it covers the story's core conflict, too.
I like how he says he HAD a name, not has, had.
Best song from the band....so far
This is one of my favourite songs ever made.
thank you karl marx
You guys are such legends to us here, you just take our childhood and somehow make it a million times better than we already remembered it! ; ;
Goosebumps... every single time at 4:00.
is it ironic that my favorite megas song has the least actual _song from the game_ in it?
seriously, i consider this song an actual masterpiece and i used to listen to it, like, ALL the time. it's weird to think that it's based on the weapon get theme???
"I had a name
My father called me Blues
He tore my heart from my chest
To give to you"
Ouch
How has this been out 3 years and now I find it?
These goes know how to write a song. Great and clever story telling in every one of their songs. And they sound nice too
I just came here to say that I got into Megaman and The Megas (alongside the Protomen) when I was a young teen / kid, and this music genuinely shaped a lot of music I'd go on to listen to and enjoy. And even all of these years later, this song has not aged a day and the drop STILL gives me chills. THANK YOU for making such a good song AND discography if you ever happen to read this on a small 1% chance.
Incredible work, will support whatever this band puts out as long as it continues to rock.
These albums are the exact reason I wish the Mega Man series would happen. Because I want these to play out in real life. ...perhaps not with thousands dead or deactivated, but simply to see the events of The Megas appear in the world outside of music too.
Cannot stop listening to your songs. So damn good! Anytime I am working in or around the house now, I have your songs just playing on loop. This one is currently my favorite, and I am going to look into getting the comics/manga. I’ve been a huge fan of mega man since I was little, and now at 36 you’ve really relit that fire with your songs! Thank you!
For up to two years, I thought 1:01 went "I want to turn this man to sender", because Breakman is angry at both Megaman and Dr. Light (Plus the e sounds).
Bro this was literally my childhood music thank you for creating the music
Most girls when they get broken up with: *taylor swift*
Me when I get broken up with: *this absolute banger*
It gives me the chills whenever I listen to around 2:46. I still love your music!
Why doesn't anyone remix these songs into 8 bit?
A lot of the time they're pretty different than the original 8 bit songs, like The Quick And The Blue, and Continue.
I agree with you, but these songs can be pretty complicated at times, to be fair. I'm attempting to transcribe this into a 16-bit SEGA Genesis remix. Not sure how that will end up, though.
message from doctor light was the only one i found. forgot the link tho… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@MechaKnuckles how did it end up?
@@Delivery-Witch-Express It got to be about 50% completed, but it's been a while since I've worked on it. Transcribing the vocal harmonies is one of the hardest parts.
You're giving the writers of megaman WAY too much credit with this.
Too good, too good.
Excuse me while I go cry.
I'm now realizing I relate to Blues more than Rock...
Same
I also like blues more as a character he's been through some tough stuff
Same
StrangeHalo X why?
I wish we could see some of blues and roll interacting I think they'd offer an interesting perspective to eachother.
Isn't this based off of the 'Get weapon' screen after beating a robot master?
4:21 gives chills every time.
This single song manages to curbstomp the majority of X8's soundtrack.
The drum fill around 5:00 is so in pocket my god
......Awesome.
Easily the best the song on this album.
3:46-4:27 : My favorite part of any Megas track.

3:29 Is that the Megaman X5 theme?!
Or is it that that sample from the X5 theme is itself borrowed from MM3 or another MM game?
Megaman X5 Intro is a remix of "Weapon Get" from Megaman 3
We in megaman 3 territory so probs the latter
... ... ... Blues...
My favorite song is all of tge songs in one album and i like "The History Repeating Blue too" My darkest dream is "I'm not the breakman" too!
😍😍😍😍
i remamber there being a lot more comment on this then there are now
Dr. Breakman - B.R.E.A.K.M.A.N.
The part at 1:49 does sound like the Fortress of Doom music from Lufia 2. Loving it!
Only the megas can make me cry over fake robots from a fucking nintendo game.
This is amazing!
It would cool proto man was actually villain trying kill rock because he thinks he being replaced by him it could interesting villain motivation
How can you kill a man have same face of you?

i showed this song to my mom and she thought it was cult music :(
Kora Zukai what
She may believe that, but The Megas are not just a cult. They're a resistance to Dr. Wily's robot army sent to exterminate the human race.
Dan of Eckitronix No, the Megas are a band that makes music based on the Mega Man video game series.
Technically any band with a following can be considered a cult.
Christianity is technically a religious cult.
