I've owned several Schecters since I started playing in 2006 and I've yet to play one I don't like. The Reaper however is so damn good honestly if something happened to it I would just buy it again. And I absolutely love the pickups. When split, the neck pickup sounds just as stratty as a real Strat if you're playing with medium low gain.
Thanks for watching and commenting, I totally agree about the Reaper. It legit over delivers at its price point, and I was really surprised at how good the pickups worked in a mix. I didn't use the split coil tones here but I def agree that they're surprisingly versatile. I've got new videos going live every Monday at 9am EST, hope you'll stop back n check em out. Rock on!

I own a reaper 6 and like it alot. I have small hands and short fingers. And I've found the reaper to be a great choice for me. I have a question. If you were to change the pickups out, what would you go with?
Glad you've had a positive experience with your reaper too! Depends on the type of music that you'll be playing, if you're doing mostly rhythm work with an aggressive high gain tone something Bareknuckle might make sense. Suhr pups might be a great choice too, they sound amazing and aren't nearly as expensive as Bareknuckles (they're a bit overpriced IMO). For what I like to do (mostly leads) I'd recommend trying out some Dimarzio's, like an Air Norton in the neck and Steve Special in the bridge but that's me and I'm a bit old school. Hope that helps, good luck!
Congrats on the new axe! A pickup upgrade would def make sense IMO, maybe a nice set of Bareknuckles or Suhr pickups would really make this guitar kick ass. The tone of the pickups worked great for my cover of 'Facing the Spider' though so I loved it as is. Thanks for watching!
@@aminorerror I wasn't thinking. I raised them and they sound much better now lol probably still going to replace them eventually, but they are pretty good to be honest.
Ahhh see there's your problem! They're def not the greatest pickups ever but they're def serviceable to get you started! Thanks again for watching, rock on!
A decent guitar. I own the 6 FR version. Mine came with long shallow cracks in the ebony and slight fret sprout. Also the action is a little lower on the treble side byt that's common. I'm kinda disappointed in: when you buy a guitar new, you always encounter faults. The best way is to buy used, aged and tested.
Damn sorry to hear you had a bad experience, mine was great! All the Schecter's I've tested have been really consistent with QC (even buying them through Musicians Friend lol) bummer to hear a bad one snuck through. Thanks for watching!

Wish they would make some more models with the Gotoh 510 bridge, now that they’ve introduced it on the Aaron Marshall signature (though it’s still not available..)

Enjoyed your video. looking to upgrade my ibanez gio. Obviously, just a beginner. looking at a evh standard vs schecter reaper. any advice for a novice?
Thanks for watching! I'm highly recommend running the other way from the mid priced EVH stuff, I reviewed one of those guitars and it was among the worst I've every played. Anything Schecter is going to be solid though, highly recommend checking out a Reaper especially. Good luck!
Not at all! This guitar did a great job handling all the rhythm guitar parts in my cover of ‘Facing the Spider’…I just happen to be more of a soloist and since I’m just making content for the channel I get to solo whenever I want (which is always lol). This guitar sounded 85% of the way as my Kiesel Vader, and for less than 1/2 the price.
Ty for the review. Im checking this guitar out since I cant find a luthier to install a sustainiac in a mij ibanez or a kiesel. I wonder why review channels never give an overall score for its build/playability. Like of a kiesel is a 9 or 10 what would this guitar be rated?
Hi, thanks for watching! That's a tough comparison because this is really an intermediate level instrument and everything Kiesel offers is a professional quality guitar. I find the Reaper to be without a doubt the best budget guitar I've ever reviewed, but it lacks premium features that you'll find on a Kiesel. First, no stainless steel frets and the bridge and pickup quality is off what you get with Hipshot hardware and Kiesel pickups. I think you'll be really happy with a Reaper though, and if you go used you really find a great deal. Hope that helps, I post new guitar related content every Monday at 9am EST, hope you'll stop back!
@@aminorerror interesting. Kiesel makes one hellof a guitat. But i actually dont like their pickups, nor their bridge. Im a lo pro edge player and need something exact or similar. Smooth up and down harmonics vibrato with the pop in arm. And I really prefer to put bareknuckle blackhawks in w.e guitar i have. And for some reason the schecter diamonds or w.e they r called in this schecter sound kind of similar to the black hawks during lead previews. And i am more of a gohtoh 1996t /low pro edge. I read forums people have said that the schecters 1500 is quite similar to a prestiges lo pro edge. Im told from a guy who does ibanez wiki that he believes the 1500 would sit in a tier list just below the edge/edge lo pro like in high A tier. Idk if all this is true because i havent been able to sample any of these schecters. But if it is true id def be willing to sac my 2500$ kiesel dream guitar where i also have a black hawk and sustainiac installed which is another +1000$ And just spend 700 for a damn near prestige playability schecter and be done with it. Granted i would have professional fret work done on it so that my action can go 1.5mm or less. So that would be like all the specs i need plus 120 or so added for the professional setup
Hahaha well idk bud, you're quite specific and picky lol Maybe just save up and pickup a prestige and skip the other brands if that's the bridge you prefer. I wouldn't say the fret work was Prestige level on the Reaper, but it was as expected for a $800ish guitar. Really solid for a $500 used guitar. Comparing Kiesel pickups to bareknuckles is a bit unfair, obviously the bareknuckle are going to be better....and they sure as hell cost a whole lot more too. Dunno, but good luck!
@@aminorerror very picky yeah. I have smaller hands for a guy. A lot of guitarists are this way. The problem is today you go to a guitar store after guitar store and see the same old shit 500$ guitars that no one wants other than joe newby. And then they will have like 1 vintage guitar for 4000$ that nobody wants. Good luck finding a kiesel anywhere in store to try out. and all of guitars anyone is curious about are only ever found online these days. Not once have i ever seen say like a JS or prestiges ivanez offers anywhere in a store, for just example. Did you know PRS custom (their most expensive) actually uses the same floyd rose 1000 that a lot of schecters use. In fact prs only makes 2 FR specific models and its with the FR1000. Which is known for cheaper metal and the screw in arm This is a very very expensive american made guitar, uses the same bridge as this schecter. Or actually no, this schecter uses the 1500 which is said to be superior. Better than prs? Weird. Cya.
Great video and awesome playing 🤘 You've done another video with a Schecter C6 Pro which I think is really similar to this spec wise apart from this having a set neck and Ash body and the pro has a bolt-on neck and the body is mahogany. I'm weighing up both as my next guitar... The price difference isn't too much - which one would you go for if you could only keep one?
Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words! Technically my other review is on a CR-6 which is a slightly different model from the C6 Pro. Looks like they're pretty close in specs, but the C6 seems to have a satin finish (like this Reaper 6) where the CR-6 had a glossy finish. All three of these models are pretty similar, but my pick would be the Reaper 6. I had such a great experience with mine and the prefer the set neck construction over the bolt on IMO. Honestly, you can't go wrong with all three though, Schecter's quality control has been the best brand I've reviewed and since my channel is small I'm not getting anything sent to me special. All of the guitars I get to review I get the same way as anybody else too. I've got new videos going live every Monday at 9am EST, hope you'll stop back. Best of luck!
@@aminorerror cheers for the rapid reply, the neck joint does look pretty slick and I've never had a swamp ash bodied guitar before so I think that could be decision made! Subscribed and I'll be checking out more of your videos for sure 👍
I had a bad experience with that set of pickups in an Ibanez Iron Label guitar about 10 years ago, IMO those aren't my favorite Dimarzio pickups. That said, it could have been the instrument they were in (the Iron Label was a true piece of crap) and they're well made pickups, if you have experience with them and like the tone I think you'll be happy with how the Reaper sounds. Thanks for watching and good luck!
@@aminorerror i love dream theater and i love the sound of the crunchlab/liquidfire combo. As I don't have the money to buy a musicman, I think this shecter might be the right choice. Do you think changing the pickups is necessary? With the wood of this guitar, I have my doubts about the result. Thank you for your answer and the quality of your videos.
I don't think it's critical to replace the pickup on this guitar, the stock ones sounded really great and were surprisingly versatile for me (the demo track is all metal shred but they did more than that too). I'd recommend the older Dimarzio pups personally, a Steve Special in the bridge and an Air Norton in the neck would be outstanding, that's what Petrucci used to use in his old Ibanez models and I think it's what he went with in the OG EBMM's when he first made the switch too back in the day. Happy to help and love talkings shop, would love to know what you go with.
@@aminorerror I have no idea where to turn. I love the sound of john petrucci it's really my favorite sound. I'd like to get as close as possible to his sound. I don't like the illuminators, so I'm hesitating between the cl/lf or the dreamcatcher and rainmaker that equip the current majesty. I don't want to make a mistake, so the choice isn't easy. steve special and air norton I've listened to a lot on the internet and I like them. if you have any other ideas for pickups, I'm open to suggestions. It's rare to see someone with sincerity on youtube without trying to do product placement. Your tests are always high quality so I'll listen to your advice and I'm sure I won't be disappointed. Thanks for your answers
I'd recommend investing in a good plugin or modeler first before you buy new pickups really for any guitar. The amp/speaker do kinda everything when it comes to tone shaping, if you aren't using a Mesa Boogie style amp sim it's going to be pretty damn hard to get in the ballpark of his tone. Don't get me wrong, pickups matter. Everything matters when it comes to getting the kind of tones you hear on Dream Theater records but I'd recommend investing in a modeler or plugin or real amp setup that's getting you 80% of the way their first. Unfortunately you're going to make mistakes gear wise as you go through your journey and as much as that sucks there's no avoiding it. You've gotta experiment and find what you like and find what work flow works for you to get the sounds you're hearing in your head and everyone learns through trial and error. Good luck!
Thanks for watching, this is a fixed bridge model not a floyd. Unfortunately I don't have it any more as I sold it to get more guitars in for review, dunno how thick the body is. Good luck!
What's your take on the clarity of the pickups the guitar comes with? Both on clean, push-cleans and higher gain settings. Do you think it'd be worth swapping out for a more preferred set? Been eyeballing this guitar ( The Satin Charcoal Burst version, who knows, knows. ) for a while now and i don't know if i should pull the trigger or not.
Thanks for watching! As I'm sure you could tell by the track, it's really a metal or hard rock instrument, and it's geared largely toward those styles. The small clean guitar texture in the breaks and end of the track is something I added (it's not originally in 'Facing the Spider') so there was at least some other guitar tones and I think the pickups did the sparkly clean tones really well, and I think they're pretty versatile for stock pickups, especially at this price point. This guitar def has the platform to make a pickup change make sense IMO. The tonewoods/hardware is all of a quality where putting better pickups into the instrument makes sense to me. I think you'll be really happy with it, I had a great time with it for 4 or 5 months while I wrote/recorded/taught on it. Rock on!
I have a reaper 6 and it sounds so dull and lifeless, after setup and new strings still muddy. Not sure if it’s the pickups or if I just got a bad one.. so disappointed
Damn Adam I'm sorry to hear that! That was def not my experience, if anything it might have actually been a bit over bright for me. I don't know too much about the life of the Reaper model line, if they've changed pickups ect along the way. What strings are you running? I'm a big fan of StringJoy strings, that's what I used in my recording and got great results. You can never go wrong with D'addario NYXL's too. What amp do you use? Maybe try pushing the presence up a tad, that might help?
'So what's the verdict on this guitar? I think as you can tell, there is basically no negatives. I mean you're getting a fantastic instrument..." Did you even bother to watch the review?
@@aminorerror yes, but I did not find yet, but also did not watch all your videos… where you clearly say, I totally love this guitar… can you mentions the guitars you love?

This is the best Schecter Reaper Review video on UA-cam IMO, I really appreciate all the excellent information on your channel and how thorough you are in your reviews. I make a point of watching all your vids, great recent Spark review. The Jedi approves, heh. Also, yes indeed of course tone wood matters! I really like that you stand your ground on these concepts. I bought one from Sweetwater and after a quality setup and nut adjustment it is now my #1 guitar. It plays like a dream, sounds amazing, looks beautiful, what a work of art for $800. I will never sell this guitar, it is a Lifetime Shred Device. My only issue is the tuners in mine are "jenky", but I could not care less since I always upgrade to locking tuners anyway and the stock tuners are workable for now. I made a review video on my channel which I released today ua-cam.com/video/eC6OyTAkBQI/v-deo.html check it out if interested.
Thanks for watching, and thank you for the kind words! Glad you like my approach and what I do, I'm busy working on new content coming some time in the late summer and fall. Congrats on the new axe, bummed to hear that the tuners are jenky but glad to hear the rest of guitar is performing as well as the one I tested. Rock on!
@@aminorerror I am looking forward to the new content. The tuners don't bother me at all, they were getting replaced regardless. The cool thing is that it is the only thing I am currently considering changing. I really like the sound of the pickups, the best way I can describe it is that they give that Extreme/Nuno sorta "thumpy" sound combined with that sweet Swamp Ash (my favorite tone wood so far).
Good video. Cons: You describe everything about the guitar. And you describe its looks. But oddly, you don't say what colors are in the body. You gave the marketing color. Still, that doesn't help the many color impared men out there. You only showed the guitar in two lights, and in those lights the colors look quite different. 3. You only showed the guitar from 2 angles. And the first angle the guitar is half-hidden when your playing it. The seconds angle when it's on a counter, is repetitive to an annoying degree. Back and forth in slow motion. It can't be that hard to pose the guitar in different locations with different lighting so we get a better feel for the art of it. OK take care. You've got fast fingers, so, good job.
@@aminorerror quality and tone are two different things. In an electric guitar, the type of wood is about a 2% or leas difference in tone. This has been studied and proven a 1000 times over.
No, that's just your opinion and it's not proven 1000 times over. Ola Strandberg's son clearly and scientifically proved there's a difference in overtones from different woods and as someone who's reviewed around 50 guitars and recorded multiple records my opinion is that the quality of the woods matters more than 2%.
@@aminorerror I have been playing for 32 years. Owned a recording studio for 16 years. Ran the sound boards and thoursnds of shows. Owned every guitar and amp under the sun. Wood doesn't really have that much effect. It does have an impact on sustain and presence of higher order dynamics. However, so do a million other things- construction, moisture, strings, etc. The type of wood mostly affects tone by way of altering playing style (feel of fret board, for example). But not tone. Also Ola Strandbergs blog has been taking down. So that is that. I could bland fold you and swap out pickups in 10 gutiars. You would not be able to tell a 2x4 from a $20,000 swamp wood.
Legit every single point you've made are hilarious strawman arguments...nothing you've said has anything to do with what's in this video. I never claimed tone woods are everything and the only reason this guitar sounded good (I went on to praise legit every other aspect). I was simply stating that they were better than other guitars in this price point. That's it, and to be frank I straight up don't believe you about your experience. Any fool can run sound at a dive bar or have a 'recording studio' in their basement. Feel free to leave some links, I'm dying to hear the ground breaking work your basement home studio was pumping out. Also, the strandberg video is very much still on youtube, you're clearly too lazy to look for it.

Hello, do you think the dimarzio crunshlab and liquidfire pickups would work well on this guitar?
thank you
I had a bad experience with that set of pickups in an Ibanez Iron Label guitar about 10 years ago, IMO those aren't my favorite Dimarzio pickups.
Good luck!
Hello. I would like to know how thick the body is and what block is used on the Floyd, 28 or 32 mm? Thank you in advance for your attention!
Rock on!
Nice job posting this on Schecter reddit. Drew me right here.
Thanks for stopping on over!
It is probably faulty i've got one and the pickups are surprisingly clear which I really like
man which guitars do you think are great? did not finda any in your videos
You must give CK3 a try lol....wonder what song ideas you might get ha ha
What's CK3 lol?

Nice I'll have to check it out!
What gauge strings are you using ?
Thanks for watching! I'm using String Joy strings, this pack: stringjoy.com/guitarstrings/strings/electric-guitar-strings/signatures/6-string-signatures/extra-light-plus-electric-guitar-strings/
Haha Ok thanks for watching.
"tone wood" 🤣
Yep, in a review of a mostly wooden instrument...I mention the quality of the wood. ;-)
