The witness thinks too highly of itself. It isnt immune to bullets.
I mean. It kind of is. Our bullets/weapons do nothing to the Pyramids. The Traveler’s beam-attach split apart and converted the Pyramids’ entire structure and seeded whole gardens of Light throughout their wreckage. That same beam did nothing to the Witness at all.
Without some very significant deus ex machina, I do not see a high probability that our personal firearms will do anything at all to the Witness.

It makes the scene where the Witness got all dark and brooding with Calus, after Calus got mouthy, hit a little different. The Witness is just a universal omega class sociopath.
I still hate that the entire motivation for the witness is that the traveler didn't give them purpose and it didn't do what they wanted. Reminds me of a child. Throwing a tantrum because they didn't get what they wanted
And that child grew up to be the ultimate stalker, found a gun and is pointing it at the head of the universe.

Specially when if you think about it, The traveler not giving the witness a purpose technically gave it a purpose.
I think it’s really fitting honestly. The Witness as a civilization reached all they could achieve, they were basically god, at that point of development, there is nothing else outside philosophy. Ironically, the reason why no other civilizations reached THAT point was because of The Witness. The Black Fleet and its followers destroying everything stopped others to reach a similar conclusion. The Witness’ madness and lack of purpose gave the universe a purpose… to survive the Witness lmao. It gave all the others the only thing they were desperate to find.
Not to mention, this also represents that need of a balance in the universe. The Traveler is a Silent God, a civilization cannot survive with JUST the light, just life, you need darkness as well, you need a philosophy, you need both.
This honestly describes many people in history. Lots of terrible things have happened because people wanted to have purpose and control.

If they showed literally ANY of this lore on-screen, The Witness might actually be a cool villain. Instead of killing off the best characters in the franchise, maybe they should have had us actually meet some of these advanced, ancient, proud and noble races - and have them be really cool, just to see The Witness brutally exterminate them and all their advanced technology and knowledge. Then he’d be terrifying….. The Witness reminds me of Silver Surfer. People who watched the cartoon, and never read the backstory in the comics have NO IDEA how powerful that character really is.
It’s very obvious they were originally going to be a race (otherwise why would there be more than one ship?) but got lazy and decided they didn’t want to make a whole race
obviously they can’t put all of this in game, and even if they did don’t act like y’all wouldn’t listen/ignore it or call it an “exposition dump”
Fun fact: the arced symbol in the lines from the species that gets attacked by the Witness is the mathematical symbol for 'intersection', meaning whatever the two sets left and right from the symbol have in common. They are describing objects (also the Witness itself) without knowing a proper word or phrase to use, so they resort to the commonality between different sets of words/phrases to nail their definition down.
Everything I hear from this lore book confirms my theory that the ghosts are the leftovers of the witness' species.

The ghosts in Destiny 2 are familiar spirits gifted by the traveler to it's chosen Guardians.

I've been playing since day 1 and I have to admit I expected a better main villain than an alien acting like a jealous ex girlfriend trying to ruin her ex and everything they ever cared about.

I really love the mystery of the Witness, most people in the community didnt like how we are only now learning about it instead of getting this all in lightfall, but honestly i think this is better. It adds so much mystery and now that we are learning more about it and who it used to be it just adds to the tension and creepy vibes this thing brings. We now know that the Witness could end us all but it actually feels.. it has rage and it wanted to basically toy with us and break us down not physically but mentally, emotionally.. definitely gonna be one heck of a show down when we face this in the dlc and raid. I wonder how mad it will get and what it will do to stop us..
You wouldn’t have cared if it was revealed in lightfall rather than now. Bungie’s corporate choices let a HUGE amount of people down. These choices impacted the flow of the story. You just say this because right now it makes your receptors in your brain go bang, skyrocketing because the drip feed is getting fueled with the juice that mattered since lightfall days. You are too high on copium to comprehend why you think this way. Bungie’s bought psychology specialists got you and your likers. Mission successful to a certain extent.
Don’t get me wrong the story is good. But that’s just cope man. And it makes sense why you think that way. Manipulation en masse.
@LastKingLKArthur nah, it really isn't cope like I generally feel this way, and when lightfall released, I enjoyed and had no real complaints. Yes, I do think lightfall could have been better. It definitely needed more to its story, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the dlc and actually liking the direction after seeing more of where they wanted to go or show. The seasons are definitely carrying lightfall, but I'm just not quick to immediately judge or hate on dlcs or seasons or stories that bungie put out for destiny, I just enjoy it in the moment.
The Veil and Witness not being explained in Lightfall is objectively an L on Bungie’s part. Glad they’re at least doing damage control though.

I’m finding it difficult to remained immersed in the storyline, the coming of the demise of guardians.. the traveler. Currently we’re competing in the guardian games, a friendly competition to determine the most popular class! As the witness moves closer and closer.. ahhh the immersion lmaooo

So the witness has abandonment issues b/c the traveler left to get milk and never came back. Then the witness finds out the traveler started a new family and had new kids and is taking its frustration out on them, out of spite. Got it.

It's really nice that they ad more and more lore tk the witness over time and i think it makes it more fun when you find out a new thing about them.

I’m so excited for the lore that will come out of final shape. I really hope throughout the raid the witness tells us his goals. Up until our final battle with him.
So, it could be this 'altering' of races is the original version of creating 'taken' and would probably be the basis for Nezarec/tormentors and other creatures. And then when Oryx learned the ability, he changed it into what we know as 'taking'. Perhaps the Witness liked this version better and has since switched to using this method. I like this thought, because it makes the process of 'taking' less exclusive to Oryx, but still giving him credit for it.
At first I thought it was going to be the creation of the Vex, but I'm glad that it isn't being put like that.

You say that we don’t see evidence evidence of the atomising or temporising of the eliksni or humanity. Aren’t the Noesis simply describing “taking”. Changing, and altering and then finalising.

It does feel like the Noesis might be the precursor race. Because what he is describing sounds eerily like what i would think was happening as the merge was happening or had happened. Because i doubt of the entire species, every single person was on board with basically tapping some deep recess of veil dark power and being one super being. Sounds like he was trying to escape and got found anyway aka “unmade and remade”.
But i guess that now explains the Witness isn’t just a race controlling one being in unison, they merged and became its own being. That’s why he harped on “we existed” before he was basically merged into the whole
The witness either thinks it is or wants to be the winnower but I think it’s either us or something else.

I would love to see all of these events in cutscenes or like, a movie or something. Ya know. Too many epic things happen behind the scene, and some of the softcore moments gets thrown in a 20 second cutscene.

The final shape will reveal that the traveler was actually the darkness the entire time, and that the witness saw this happen to his own race. Every other life form has been the light this entire time. The traveler will transform into its true form, it's final shape, and we will have to take it out, with the help of the witness.
So in comparison the Witness is Bungie’s version of the Borg?

Y’all are missing the point, the noesis are the precursor species that became the witness. That entry is from the perspective the other precursor in the communications. There are too many details that lead to this. Theory: the crate of beacons found in the outpost (Sol) were ghosts which came from a time when death still needed to be prevented. Ghosts are noesis tech and the being fearing the witness is inside the traveler. If you’re curious, read the entry from the perspective of a being billions of years old observing everything happening, including the collapse.
The book is meant to be misleading because we’re left to imply the full story, it’s all connected, dog. The final shape is the witness merging with the last remnant of the species, becoming complete, which is why the last noesis believes everything ends once the witness finds it.
That doesn't really add up, as cool of a theory as it is. The Traveler has an (ironically) very unique design that isn't seen anywhere else as far as space craft/ huge structures go. Considering we get a third person recounting of the precursor civilization finding the Traveler and it then activating, then fleeing, from Ahsa and there already being mentions that supposedly more primitive spacecraft from the precursor civilization were still tetrahedral in nature, not to mention literally no evidence of other Traveler-like entities existing at the same time... it just can't quite be right.

That sounds like quite a reach.
The traveler is not mentioned once in the entry, so people are assuming that this is the witness indiscriminately attacking random systems, but we saw the fleet dormant following the red war. The traveler was lost for some time and the fleet went silent because it couldn’t find it per savathun’s deception. The witness’s quest is about directly chasing the traveler and achieving the final shape. The traveler itself it likely something we haven’t even guessed yet, similar to the veil.
The description given about arriving to the outpost very much matches up the progression of the golden age from the travelers perspective.
We really still don’t know what ghosts other than that they are some form of important technology. There is likely a reason the witness is able to connect to ghosts other than weird space magic. Ghosts are too robotic for us to say whether or not they are created by the traveler. In reference to beacons, I’m theorizing it has to do with a metaphorical idea of ghosts. Kinda of like it’s last piece to play being the guardians.
From everything I’ve seen, there’s really no hard counters to the theory. But it makes sense the more you research. It even gives an answer for the veiled woman statue and the woman made of light in the destiny concept. For me, the evidence all points near that conclusion, but I’d love to debate it.
There’s nothing saying Asha gave us invalid information. We still really have no there reason to trust her other than that she’s an enemy of the witness. The information she gave us it still just word of mouth, and we can’t determine anything until we go into the traveler and determine it ourselves.
Witness goofy design would have never cut it in D1. I miss Destiny 1s art style. Apocalyptic, on the verge of collapse, gritty, sci-fi… kinda grounded too. Very mysterious.
Destiny 2 on the other hand is a super hero, we’re on top of y’all, fantasy, plastic art style game. Sad. Completely different vibe even tho it looks so similar, but the little things make the bigger differences.

In lore there were Multiple factions in his race, one of which saw the first step to achieve true purpose was to become one and maybe that is their mark.

Well, memes at their barest are ideas that spread quickly through a collective or society. A memeplex is a collection of memes that all relate to each other. So, in essence, it's quite litterally a hostile collection of ideas. A fitting description for an entity like The Witness.

It really isn’t all that similar to the Reapers in motivation or actual ontology at all. If anything, it’s closer to some concepts in Evangelion, Gurren, and even Dune, and those things are far older than Mass Effect.
Mass Effect did not invent the notion of merged consciousnesses in a transcendentally powerful and destructive/malevolent being.

The lore of the game devolved into utter nonsense. All of this has become completely convoluted and absurd. It has completely undermined the reveal to come with the Traveler and cheapened everything.
