I'll never forget the day in 9th grade that I pushed my new pink 8-track into the dashboard of my '73 Chevy Vega piece of shat and tried to wrap my head around this new Led sound. Took a few listens but it is my top lz lps...in the top of the rotation, that is. rock AND roll and thanks so much.
It’s such a pity that Jonesy’s 8-string Alembic bass got so lost in the PA back then. It is really the centerpiece of the sound of ‘Presence’ and unfortunately it sounds like someone is banging metal trash can lids together rather than the majestic 8-string bass sounds on the ‘Presence’ LP. When I saw Jonesy on the ‘Zooma’ tour in 2000, his multi string basses sounded so full and powerful…of course this was in relatively small venues rather than the stadiums they were playing in ‘77, but still…
