- In this episode, we explore the area of Toombon in the Victorian High Country.
A gold mine, some rough tracks, a cemetery and some good laughs will keep you entertained in this 1st part of a 2 part episode.
DH gives us a masterclass in how to look ridiculous when climbing and Offroad has absolutely no valuable input.
Thanks for watching and supporting the show!
Sign at Toombon was installed by our group West GIppsland Inc. I actually wrote the sign at the shaft. Glad to see people enjoying the area.
Great work! It's a magnificent area and we appreciate being able to learn a bit while visiting👍
You have the right idea. Grab a friend or two and go take a look around the ole area ya never know what might turn up.
Trevally in the river, I must remember that next time I'm in the area. lmao.
Great little explore
🤣 Thanks Neil.
Walhalla cemetary has graves that are feet first shafts. It is on the side of a steep hill though.
You be surprised how much gold is to be found around these old mines, I used to go all the time with a cheap gold detector when I was a young lad here in far east Gippsland, there is still lots of shinny stuff in the hills to be found.
We'll have to have a proper look one of these times.. we do have a cheapy, surprisingly good for the price👍
There's more gold to be found in eastern Vic. The biggest question is the cost to dig it out worth it. I've been places you can pan a 1/2 ounce out of a creek in an afternoon, doesn't mean the whole streambed is that good. As for existing mines? Some of the old ones still have gold. Many don't. Again, it's whether it's worth it.
Stayed at the very impressive O’Tooles Campground on Donnelly Creek Road last night.
I Was at the Toombon Mine today and wanted to research the mine a little more.
Just found your great video now.
A lot of the tracks around area are very overgrown. Plenty of Bush Pinstripes on my cruiser.
Why the hell do people insist on pinching the bloody Track signs?
Cheers,
HeyVJ
.
Nice, we didn't stop in at O'Tooles campground but looks like a nice open area. We're planning on heading back to the area soon and would also like to research more about the mines there.
You're right about the overgrown tracks, makes things a little more interesting though 😀
It is a shame when a sign is pinched and also coming accross rubbish that some have left behind.
Hope it was a good trip👍
Nice roads not! Don't forget you're Betsy metal detector next time!
No adventure in walking tracks first though 😂Rugged old goat track that one, and the track down to the old mine relics was not much better haha! Cool bit of history you found too, thanks for sharing.
We're lucky there's been some good weather lately. Wouldn't have wanted to be stuck up there🤣 we'll be heading back again soon, awesome area. Thanks for watching!
the hooks would be for running services along the wall out of the way of the rail carts and rail bogger, services wouldve been air and water..
Nice work guys, keep up the great work 👍
Brackets in ribs (sides) could be for air, water lines.
If there's still enough room for hanging jackets then we'll agree! 😀
Hi guys new sub. Looks like a great track for motorbikes bit hairy in the car. Great footage, hope the go pro didn't scratch up too badly. Stay safe
Thanks for the sub! Would love to give it a go on a motorbike. The amount of abuse our Go Pros have been through, they are the Hero's of the show (pun intended)
What a pair🤭
You know it Robbie! 🤣
What is the poly pipe for 15.58?
Absolutely no idea, may have been used to drain some water from the mine? But it looked like it had been sitting there unused for a while.
Reo bar in the walls and rolled pfc is not that old, I explored these areas in 1985 to 90 and came across guys who would work these old mines.

Fmd that was one sketchy track.
What do you think that poly pipe was doing there? Is it possible that mine has been worked recently?
Great vid guys. Subbed
Haha, It was a bit sketchy at times.
It didn't look like there'd been any work done recently but who knows🤷. Was definately a nice little find though and worth checking out👍
