Many years ago a group of friends and I walked into Toombon from Aberfeldy and camped beside the mine shaft shown at 3.50. I didn’t know it at the time, but my Grandfather later told me that my Great Grandfather was the mine manager (as he was at Long Tunnel Extended mine in Walhalla and the Wonthaggi coal mine) but they couldn’t stop the water from filling it up so, according to my grandfather, it was abandoned despite there being gold still in it. We also found many abandoned mine shafts throughout the area and took great care scrub bashing through there.
23:41 While at Toombon the owners of the former pub were restoring that building and nearby we found a treated pine log cabin that had been transferred from Darnum (near Warragul) having previously been a display for Weir’s Treated Timber when it was operating.
This video has brought back many memories.

You chose the fun way back to Walhalla Rd. If you went left at the drop sunny at Junction Hut that would have taken you back to Walhalla Rd along a much better track called Merringtons Track. But very entertaining!!
