I was thinkin' that too, but seeing how it's the Kennedy Center, odds are, they've used it before. The first thing that came to mind was West Side Story. None-the-less...a fantastic presentation. Love it, love it, love it.
As a 16 yr old kid, I used to strap on my Walkman and ride my bike around the neighborhood. Just listening to this song really helped me through my lonely and pressured teen years. Thankful for the music.
Words by Carole. Voice and guitar by James. What a match. Fun facts: James played guitar on Carole's original cover. [Yes, she covered her own song! ... after the Drifters made it famous ~1962.] And they duetted it in 1971 at Carnegie Hall. Ultimately, James put it on his own 1979 album "Flag."]
What a perfect night. The President and his beautiful, smart, talented wife listening to a legend singing a song written by another legend. Maybe the last time before the fall of America which began January 6th, 2021 and continues today.
Amen to that. From the first time I heard this song many many decades ago it always generates a sadness in me but at the same time a warm happy sense of security.
'Beautiful", the Carole King tribute musical is still playing on Broadway at NY's Stephen Sondheim Theater. Features all these Carole/Gerry Goffin classics.
Are you kidding me with that set!?! Song seemed kind of short though, maybe I remember it differently. Bravado performance, leave them wanting more. But 2 minutes for that big set?!?
Quite a perch Wondered if he was scared of heights All those psych hospitals and suicidal Or a safe space for him A friend wrote it with her (later?) Husband So liked the song growing up (On JT? Alex Dunphy : Mom actually did me a huge favor. Haley Dunphy : Oh, my god, do not tell her that. She will never shut up. Alex Dunphy : I know. Remember when you admitted that you didn't hate that James Taylor concert she dragged you to? Haley Dunphy : She was unbearable! "I told you!" A song so good, they built a whole set for it. 😁

@@jimkahn957 Same. Except I thought of Dick Van Dyke doing "Chim Chim Cher-ee" from "Mary Popkins." (Especially with the cap James wears.)
Does any of you James Taylor fans remember what year he perform this very song up on the roof on sesame Street?
James Taylor a national treaure
It's like magic when he sings, he fills your body with warmth, comfort and plenty of love 🥰🌹🌟
Carole's face at the beginning. Beautiful
