Lyrics:
On the roof's the only place I know
Where you just have to wish to make it so
Oh, let's go up on the roof

The Bear never fails to introduce us to gems such as this!
I am watching that episode of the bear right now😀
💯🎯🙏❣️💝💞
well it's the first good song
One of the first times I met Carole at a party, we were sitting around just chatting. I told her I was surprised to be having a conversation with someone who wrote, or co-wrote, some of the songs that kind of helped define our generation. She smiled and said, "I am just a fireman's daughter from Brooklyn".
🤗😂🙏
Is that really true? amazing
@user-fk5fs7ff7j As a West Vitginia friend of mine would say, "I'll tell ya what's true". Probably close to twenty years ago, that's what Carole said to me.
Why didn't you just say "I met Carole King several times?" That was the take-home message, right? I-know-famous-folks.
My neighbor's teen-aged son and I worked part-time at a big brand store so his parents asked me to bring him home after work.
So often on the ride home he often heard carole king's music being played because as a Gen x-er, I grew up on carole king's songs.
So during the Christmas season, while playing carole king's Christmas cd, he asked me for some of her cds since he liked her voice becaue it calmed him down
So that Christmas and every after , he always gets a different carole king cd for Christmas from me and it's really a joy to have the opportunity to expose a new generation of people to the beauty of carole king's music.
Peace.
I remember going out my window and sitting on the roof.
Just look at the stars and leave the world behind!
You are such a talented writer!
So many of us have been there. But never been up on the roof.
Carole King took us there.
Beautiful song from a beautiful person.
So pure, so innocent! Thanks Carole!
absolutely killing it with those vocals and that piano playing
She was so talented singer/song writer/performer/musician. Tapestry was The Greatest Of All Time. Down to earth humble legend, Carole King. Back in the day when performers would actually smile, and bow, and say thank you to the audience.
Cannot find a better musician and voice, she is the greatest.
I think this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written! Truly inspired!!
Carole, lovable, embraceable person. How to put in music and words our souls, relationships, stories.......omg
Her eyes are beautiful.
How ironic. Up on the roof, while I go down the rabbit hole. The rabbit hole of searching everything that is Carole King. And having so much fun.
I love that this is here. You can listen to her arrangement over and over again. Thank you.
Beautiful music and person!
Inspirational. Healing. Our world is betterthrough Carole King's musical talents and words of wisdom. Tapestry a lovely piece of art, as all her albums. Carole's interviews lift our spirits. Carole reminds us all of our unique gifts & good within. Carole your songs & wise words helped me through a painful week. Bless you. Congrats on your well deserved 2021 Oct Induction to Rock N Roll Hall of Fame!
gonna watch this 900k more times, because i can't believe it doesn't have at least a million views
BBC amazing recording, preserving the performance of a legend forever
OMG.. beast female singer since recording has been done
Soulful and warm. I am a Catholic priest and I stand in awe before the gift God gave to this Jewish woman. For me there is some wonderful message there. Every single person and nation encloses a precious gift of God and I give thanks.
@Matt Finish One is better than none!
That was a such an offensive thing to say to women,Jew, Catholics and basically, all human beings
@@josephjohnson7256 It wasn´t meant to offend. Sorry!
@@josephjohnson7256 Nothing he said was offensive. @Carl Kuss - you truly glorified God with your message. Thank you!
The message came from LAURA NYRO
Greatest female song writer ever.
Why limit that? She’s in the conversation for the GOAT

Well her husband had a lot of input in their songwriting. A lot.
A genius of music and a wonderful and beautiful woman
What a beautiful song, I love it... And what a beautiful concert too!
You are totally awesome! Your music and vocals are timeless! Thank you for your talent.

Thanks so much. I’ve listened to her all day long. 😘😊
Beautiful music.

What an earth Angel looks and sounds like 😇
As an ex-musician with a degree in music, I think that's one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard! Brava!!
How can you be an ex-musician?
@@yosemite735 The moment he retired from being a professional musician, he became an ex musician

A beautiful Brill Building song.

Shivers!
When I was kid I always go to my grandparents house go to the 2nd floor climb off the window and just sit on the tin roof magical times
When this old world starts getting me down
And people are just too much for me to face
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all my cares just drift right into space
On the roof, the only place I know
Where you just have to wish to make it so
Oh-oh, let's go up on the roof
At night the stars put on a show for free
And darling, you can share it all with me
I keep a-tellin' you
Right smack dab in the middle of town
I've found a paradise that's trouble proof
So if this world starts getting you down
There's room enough for two
Up on the roof
Up on the roof
Everything is alright,
Up on the roof
Oh, come on, baby
Come on, come on, come on, now darling
Up on the roof
Oh, everything is alright
Everything is alright
Everything is alright
Up on the roof
I just heard the version that her and James Taylor did on their 2020 colaboration album. They crossed over both versions, using the original keys and composition structure. A very cool version indeed.
52 years ago! Wow
Carole sings it just as well as the original composers of the song!!
DOH!
Gracias por contestar dios los bendiga a todos me encanta su trabajo feliz año sea de bendicion para uds desde chile
drift right into space up on the roof the best place to be it is exactly as she is says me to up on the roof when things are getting you down a whole different view and feeling try it and think of this song
Carole is so Modest.
❤ This Version Thanks to the sound editor on "The Bear" for highlighting it this season. 💗🎶🎹
❤️🌟✨
Carole, I love your style of piano playing, with those suspended chords. I think it's similar to Elton John, but better!!
When this old world starts getting me down
And people are just too much for me to face
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all my cares just drift right in to space
On the roof it's peaceful as can be
And there the world below can't bother me
Let me tell you now
When I come home feelin' tired and beat
I go up where the air is fresh and sweet
I get away from the hustling crowds
And all that rat race noise down in the street
On the roof's the only place I know
Where you just have to wish to make it so
Oh, let's go up on the roof
At night the stars put on a show for free
And darling, you can share it all with me
I keep a-telling you
Right smack dad in the middle of town
I found a paradise that's trouble free
So if this world starts getting you down
there's room enough for two up on the roof
Up on the roof
Everything is all right
Oh, come on baby
even better as she matures..imo
😌♥️

Just saw this was recorded the month my wife and I married. One of our first purchases was Tapestry. Wore out the album. It was kind of the soundtrack of our early years of marriage. Just celebrated 51.
I think there are many worn out versions of Tapestry!
HAppy ANniversary!
Happy Anniversary! I bought Tapestry on the spot when I heard "It's Too Late" playing in the record section of a department store back when it was released. Timeless, as is your love.

I often wonder if Carole and Neil Sedaka , would have stayed together, what wonderful music would have emerged. They didn't do badly on their own , I have to say.
They were never an item. Carole even stated that.
Carole wrote the music for all her songs and many of the lyrics, but Sedaka only music-so no collaboration there. Also, King has never commented on any so-called relationship. From Sedaka's book, it seems more like a one way infatuation.
Beyond brilliant, but I much prefer it fast the way she and the Drifters performed it originally.
Beautiful! I still prefer Laura Nyro interpretation. Two great composers/singers!!
S
LAURA NYRO composer
Carole King and Gerry Goffin-music and words. I read somewhere that the song came to them in a taxi on the Brooklyn Bridge. Also, one of the Drifters said they kind of laughed when the "small white girl" came into the studio to tell them how to do the song, but in five minutes they were all listening carefully.
Use to be, yes very nice. Made lots of money. Sold many records recorded by the Differs. Now I see the world like Nuclear Doomsday up on the roof or where ever won't matter
I really wonder how many people actually realize this classic song was written by Laura Nyro? Laura Nyro ? Yea, search her on the internet and look at how many SENSATIONAL Songs she wrote which were made famous by other bands / groups- you'll be shocked! Go ahead and give Laura Nyro HER DUE !!
Laura Nyro did record a beautiful version of "Up On The Roof" and release it as a single, but she did not write the song. It was written by Goffin and King song like most of the songs on Tapestry. Laura had a lovely voice with an incredible range and she does deserve more recognition.
Personal opinion it's awful. But she has a good voice
What has it to do with being Jewish! SMH
2021 and "Up on the roof" is probably a safe place. Cheers
cheers!
Nowadays yes!!
The Drifters, 1962, the year I graduated from high school. We in the NJ suburbs knew about the need for sanctuary.
Beautiful! I still prefer Laura Nyro interpretation. Two great composers/singers!!
I thought it was awful
"Up on the roof/
Everything is all right". Beautiful song.
A timeless beautiful song
Such a talent. I loved the Broadway Show, Beautiful. And tapestry one of my favorite Albums. Thankyou so much for your music.
Such a gifted composer. I love her music.
Nobody covers Carole King songs better than Carole King.
Laura Nyro
@@irasthel638absolutely not
Drifters should be put in jail for what they did to this song.
💯🎯🙏❣️💝💞
@@hamptonwickster You're on drugs.
Is there any singer more beautiful and talented? I THINK NOT!
UNA GRANDE CAROL KING !!!! bellos recuerdos de mi juventud
Carol makes the earth move under our feet without the quake! 🤭🎶✳️💙 "A Tapestry for Life`~"
It felt like an improvisation of her own song. She was feeling every note of it.
it's called "live show"
love this, i still need to hear, a voice that cares
Carole King and Gerry Goffin wrote so many great songs for other artists.
When she made her own album Tapestry, it was a genuine classic and should be in every music lover's collection.
Esta es musica , arte , todo Maravilloso !!!!!
❤
Great natural talent. Love her songs.
Hello (:
Beautiful Carole, beautiful song and Messege. It was recorded when I was less then a year old and in my life, I feel relate to it and had long hours on the roof, receiving sun and fresh air. Thank you for your art work and who knows, maybe we’ll meet one day. 💗
I watched the Carole King and James Taylor concert on CNN last night. I started to cry when the performed this song. It reminded me of my dad. I had no idea Carole wrote the lyrics. My dad and I listened to the Drifters. What a great song. I miss my dad so much
Gerry Goffin wrote the wonderful lyrics. Carole composed the wonderful music.
Love Carole King but I much prefer Springsteen's take on it. There's a feeling of escapism in the lyrics and the Boss makes it come out and breath.
*breathe.
Yeah I agree. I love his Bottom Line August 16th 1975 version the most. He did the song apparently only 7 times.
@@theiceman6941 Ops! Thanks for the correction. Much appreciated. Not an English native speaker.
This song brings back great memories! My dearest friend lived in Philly on 3rd and Bainbridge back in 2017-2020 and we would go up to the roof. We would bring some food, beers or wine, cushions, a blanket, and the Oontz Bluetooth speaker. A great view of the city skyline and sky. Such wonderful memories!!!! I'll cherish them always. ❤
♥
I play this song. She does it better.

Love her- and the music just kept coming

As a kid I'd listen to radio all day (the TV was usually broken. Waiting for a valve to arrive) this is one of the first songs that imaged in my head. Kenny lynch was singing it then. I must have been 3-4. If it was played on my last ever listen it would be OK with me..
I remember those days up on the roof climbed out my bedroom window and looked at the stars happy Easter 🌹🐇
Happy Birthday!
I LOVE this song! and CK's version is WONDERFUL
God like genius
GBU ALWAYS
I've listened to this more than a million times never ever knowing that the incomparable Miss Laura Nyro wrote this smash hit but it could have very well been written by Miss Carole King because both these women are and were phenomenal song writer's lyricist pianist and musician's❤❤❤❤❤ ❤
It was written by Goffin and King in 1962 and was a hit for the Drifters. It holds up pretty well for a 62 yr old song.
Why do people want a star like this`s signature? If I met Carol id give her flowers and thank her for the endless hours of musical utopia that ave helped me through hard times and good times, I would just like to thank her for all her music.
I was born too late. I love Carole King.
