Tip with the bed warp: if you have wiring, you can do the same thing but more permanent with a simple pressure plate and actuator. Just set up a pressure plate to deactivate a block in the wall when you are stepping on it. This then makes the room invalid and will teleport you to spawn, and you can teleport back immediately since the room becomes valid again the instance you aren't on the pressure plate.
Added tip for this: If you are going to do it, use a weighted pressure plate rather than a regular one. If you use a regular plate, it won't reactivate the block once you teleport away from the plate.

@@ChippyGamingWell here’s the thing Chippy, speedrunners practically go beyond the limits of what a game can handle, and transmutation speedruns are a perfect example for Terraria.
Great video! As a terraria speedrunner, I thought I could take the opportunity to clarify the technical details behind a couple of these tricks. For the dungeon loot order, there are two reasons why it wasn't completely consistent. The first is that when a dungeon chest spawns aboveground, it becomes a wooden chest with a golden key, but still takes up its place in the order (so it would go wooden chest first, then cobalt shield second.) Additionally, you don't always see dungeon chests in the order they generate--dungeon can overlap on itself quite a bit, and the entrance connects to the highest room (which isn't necessarily the first to generate). You also mentioned that the jousting lance hitbox is weird, and this is actually because when facing to the right (and only when facing to the right), the hitbox actually starts at the end of the lance and goes 90 degrees to the left from there. Why? Who knows--probably just a mistake by the devs.
Going alongside the lance mappy makes a really cool design in game and is able to do millions of damage in a hit you should check it out it takes a while though so not really the fastest but it is cool
@@angaiello6320 are you referring to the one they used to one-frame oneshot Dungeon Guardian? the massive pillar of Teleporters that uses an Inner Tube for infinite acceleration? also while Neptune's Shell overwrites the Inner Tube, it doesn't overwrite the Flamingo mount, so Moon Shell should be viable
I'll never be a Terraria speedrunner, but I do love a lot of the tactics they've come up with over the years. The shimmer trick was pretty obvious to me as soon as I learned of the mechanic that breaks items down to the base components, but some of them are just wickedly creative.
The dungeon order thing always works, however if there is a wooden chest as the first one, then it takes the place of the golden chest that would normally be the muramasa
Mr. Chippy Gaming I love that you're bringing more attention to speedrunning it's a really cool community that I've had the privilege of being a part of for a few years now. I know that zoethecat has already commented on a couple things for clarification, but I have some as well that you might find useful or helpful for comprehension's sake. With the destroyer instant kill, the way you did the setup is how we typically do it in speedruns since it's much faster than the safe setup, but if someone were to want to do this safely, the best way to do it would be to start at the very top of the world, and place the explosive-resistant block 75 blocks below the block the player stands on, and summon the boss from there. That setup is the most consistent, and works on every difficulty. For the plantera fight, your demonstration ended up being pretty lucky at the start since plantera approached from the perfect spot, but typically you want to lead her manually into the space between the two teleporters (which should be a lot smaller than in your demonstration), and then mount the rail. Players may also find that they end up falling off of the rail sometimes, which can either be because you need to hammer the teleporter into its half block form, and if you're still falling off, you should press your direction key once then hold it to move. Double pressing your direction key should prevent you from falling off of the rail. Zoe mentioned the lance hitbox bug being rotated 90 degrees when facing right, but funny enough, if you're on a rail and have hit off of a bumper, the same bug is replicated when facing left, which is what makes the golem fight as fast as it is in speedruns, as you can hit one of the fists and the head at the same time with the rotated hitbox. If you were to make another video like this, I definitely recommend covering the celestial pillar cheese methods, as they're probably the most hated event in the game, and making it easier is something that I can imagine most casual players would love to see. If you yourself have any questions as to how the tricks we use work, feel free to ask us any questions in the speedrunning discord, we would be glad to help.
I wish all loot generation worked like the Dungeon's Still feels random but at least you're guaranteed to have at least one of every primary item from that chest.
its important to note for the respawn bed trick that you have to use a recall potion, the magic mirror wont work fast enough before the falling block resets the spawn location.
4:55 I’m glad for that order bc there was a muramasa in a chest so high up that the dungeon guardian didn’t spawn and I killed skeletron with a night’s edge

Holy cow! I think this is the earliest I've made it to one of your videos. I love playing terraria casually and its cool to see some of these tricks broken down to help out in a casual playthrough without changing the experience. Great video!
Haboo is such an amazing speedrunner and is CRACKED at whatever game he plays. Watching him do the plantera fight at gdq was both incredible and funny!
Hey james, if you need to avoid screen shake in a video in the future, you can use the world borders! since at world borders your character isn't center of the screen, it wouldn't shake when you move crazily.(I haven't tested this, just thought of it when watching). Hope this helps!
Wow this game has changed so much since I played it. I remember playing the beta years and years ago before it fully released and there wasn’t any of this wild stuff. Cool to see how far it has come and that it’s still being playing today.
For the dungeon chest thingy. The first chest can sometimes change into a normal chest rather then a locked gold which means you have to start your golden chest partern on chest 2. There's also the possibility of the first chest not spawning properly or cause dungeon are very irregular having the chest order difficult to figure out
The house one is hella useful, been using it in legendary mode. It makes it so easy to prep for bosses that are biome specific. Set home by the arena, prepare, go do potions, etc
I love the Guide thing, I haven't had to look for Guide Voodoo dolls in so long! It's much, much, easier. Just make sure you disable any other vacant housing, so he has no choice but to go to the house.
you can just use the house assignment(when the banner gets the gold border) to make the guide always respawn in that house. unfortunately, it doesn't prevent other NPCs from moving in and breaking the reservation when hes dead so just be aware of that
Shellphone allows you to teleport between bed (home), spawn, oceans and underworld (for regular play, not for speedrunning) Bed warp is very cool and useful for pre-shellphone, though
A faster and easier bed warp strat is to place a door next to the missing corner block and stand inside it, and place a gravity block on top of the door above the corner. When you recall the door will close and the sand will fall, repairing the house. No timing or wiring required. (Saw it in haboo's steam today)
I used the bumper rails before, but only in pre-hardmode. I never thought of using it in hardmode, because the damage was never enough to cover me not taking damage. I used to build it with 3 rails, because 2 weren't enough when I first found that, and now I'm always building with 5 to mitigate the shake, and have the ability to place rails going back into it. (because I integrate it into my arenas)
Never thought speed running would be this handy..as a casual I mainly stuck to the "enjoy your time here" but now being in hardmode..now it's a different tale🤣

I use the guide in hell one all the time! To make it even easier, you can set up actuators and a lever on the floor of the guides housing and just flip it to kill him and have it be ready to move back into asap
bed warp can also work by putting a sand or silt on top of door inside and using recall would make sand fall into the hole u made (as long as the hole makes the bed unusable and theres platform under the hole)
I know this video is old and chippy most likely won't see this... But, for some people who don't know. You don't have to let go for the key to dash the same way. For example with the the eyes shield, hold 'a' to move that way. While doing that double tap 'd' to dash while not losing (or losing minimal) speed! Sorry for the long explanation, I'm bad at explaining.
According to what I've read, the dungeon loot does indeed generate in that order, but it's based on height. So the first chest you find while entering the dungeon might not be the highest in altitude, and that's why you sometimes find the shield or scepter first. Never mind. I read a few more comments and someone already mentioned this. My bad.
Another tip is that when the cultist summons his fake clones, the position where the real one ends up depends on the way he was facing beforehand. I believe if he was facing right, he will spawn in the bottom right, and if he was facing left he will spawn at the top. He can never spawn on the left
pro tip, when you smash the garlic to get the skin off, you dont have to actually smash it. just break the skin in a few places and you can peel it off. its actually easier to peel the garlic if you dont smash it flat.
For the Wall of Flesh, you don't need to drop the guide into the lava (and potentially destroy the home), as long as he dies while in contact with lava in the Underworld it should still work (Lava Bucket). Source: Wiki "The Wall of Flesh can also be summoned by letting the Guide be killed in the Underworld while the Guide is in contact with lava."
Not all the tips were new to me, even during the run, but it was still insane to see exactly how some relatively simple concepts could break the game. As for the guide house in hell, that is a general optimization ive used countless times since introduced. If manually set the resident, it is an infinite boss summon.
you can also use a door instead of placing the sand. you place a door have it open to the broken corner then place the sand of the top of the door and recall. * DO NOT manually open the door let the smart doors setting open it or it won't work.*
I have a shorts video here about the SpawnHome trick video name here... "Terraria (Repeatable Home or Spawn Trips with Magic Mirror/Cellphone)" But if you have shell phone this won't work!
