- Healthy it ain't! Chicken Fried Bacon is the newest fad in fatty foods, courtesy of Frank Sodolak at Sodolak's Original Country Inn in Snook, TX. Texas Country Reporter Bob Phillips stops by for a taste.
R.I.P Frank , we will miss you !
The fried bacon, steak and onion rings were worth the trip from Germany !
Been watching this at least once a week for the past 15 years...
IT JUST NEEDS MORE SALT!!
ZootTuber 😂😂😂😂😂
that was crazy. Bacon already has too much sodium in it, and the batter probably has more. Bet her blood pressure is through the roof!
She wasn't lying lol
I love that the owner is smoking during the interview!
I've been there. It's very good. Eat bacon. Be happy. Have to admit that I do like their steaks better - they're wonderful.
I can't beleive that more resturants don't serve this, increadible!!! It's so simple, and sounds sooooo good.
"This is good. It just needs salt." OMG lol. Only in America will you get breaded fat that is fried in fat and have it taste so freaking good, all your customers order it. Pure genious, I can taste it all ready!
this man should get a medal for creating this
Drove 17 hours (starting at 2am on a Friday night) when this aired. Drove there-->ate-->drove home
Yes.. it was worth it
It must be good if you traveled that far. What did you order? (I assume you got the fried bacon)
Hell yeah. Saying no to bacon is like saying no to mom and apple pie. God Bless America
MAGA 2024
I die a little every time I watch this, especially when the woman says it needs more salt.
I love America, especially Texas!!!!!!
I read that the owner of this place the guy in the video passed away last year. And no it was not his heart
I've been watching this video since I was a kid and I randomly remember and re-watch it again
Just realized its a 14 year old video when I noticed the guy smoking in the restaurant 😆 🤣
Those were the days lol
Yummy!!!!
The three magic words in the universe. Chicken, Fried & Bacon.
The ultimate Food!!
1:54 when 80% salt needs more salt
I still love this oh so much
ME TOO!
sodalaks is amazing!!!! they have great food and cheap prices!!!! I recommend them to anyone who comes to Central Texas
Lighter vegetable oil? Is there such a thing? Did it still taste crispy and crunchy like the video shows it?
This man is a legend
You could use any batter really...
1 Dish with eggs
1 Dish with flour, salt, pepper, (Any seasonings)
Freeze the bacon for an hour
Dip the becon in eggs
Dip in the flour mixture
--Redip of you want to double coat, start at the egg part
Deep Fry in oil for several minutes
You need another recipe for the gravy
my fav quot in this piece: "Your body knows whats good for ya"
lol, and its been screaming at you for years but you are not listening ;)
This is an awesome idea. Makes my want to fry up a batch. And although my mind says, "no no NO!" my tummy says "yes yes YES!" I can almost hear my arteries slamming shut in anticipation.
I watched this, and my gallbladder threw up into my stomach. MMMMMMMM
Miss this place. Between the chicken fried bacon and the two pound porterhouse, can’t beat it.
Sodalaks is a suburb of College Station Texas near Aggie land A&M
It's better with syrup.
The ominous music is awesome.
"This is good...it just needs more salt!"
That was awesome!
"I guess chicken fried bacon strips made it for me!"
That narrator's droopy, condecending voice is classic. I remember when our KFC had chicken fried french fries. That lasted about 1 month. It was insanely popular, but I'm sure somebody had a heart attack while eating it.
this actually brought tears to my eyes
my tummy is sooo happy to have witnessed this
now all i need to do is find some chicken fry stuff
Frank died in 2012 at the age of 67. The restaurant is still in operation. This place is on my food bucket list.
It’s ran by his son Curtis. His other son Steven runs a different Sodolaks in Bryan
This has got to be awesome. Some friends of mine are heading to Snook today on their bikes. I wish I good go but I'm not liscensed yet. Maybe next time.
Do that chicken fried bacon appetizer looks delicious talk about an instant heart attack or stroke hahaha but I love the Texas Country Reporter
I think I just suffered a minor heart attack from just watching that video!!
Next trip to Texas, I am stopping in Snook! Yum!!!
"Just needs more salt".... JUST NEEDS MORE SALT!?
Kodetze 😂😂😂😂😂 excuse my fellow sister for that 😂😂😂😂
Went here today and regularly but I stay away from the chicken fried bacon. His son Curtis runs the place now. Truly a country food paradise.
First there was Chicken-Fried Steak, then came Chicken-Fried Chicken, and now we got Chicken-Fried Bacon. I wonder what the next meat will be to be chicken-fried.
Imagine that, Chicken-Fried Chicken or Chicken-Fried Steak with Chicken-Fried Bacon on the side. That'll give you enough gravy for BOTH!
1:56 the commentator is hesitating after hearing the lady say "it needs more salt" XD
When is this going to come to the north
The wife has informed me that chicken-fried bacon will NEVER be an option. Now planning my secret escape to Snook, Texas. Wish me luck.
Next time I come to TX I'm coming to this restaurant for chicken fried bacon and steak. : )
Sodolak's ain't bad, but Czech-Tex Steakhouse is my personal favorite. Best chicken fried steak out there!!!
I think I just got heartburn from just watching this.
It's not a food that you shall eat every day, but once per month or hec, even once per week if you are healthy physical worker? Holy fucking YES.
As long as you’re active and get plenty of exercise, there’s nothing wrong with indulging yourself at a place like this every now and then.
SWEET. A 2-Pound Steak with Chicken-fried Bacon and a goddamn cigarette is a DAMN FINE MEAL in my book!!!
Notice how the only skinny person in the entire video was the teen cook. lol
Imagine ordering Chicken Fried Steak or Chicken Fried Chicken, and having a side of Chicken Fried Bacon (And enough cream or brown gravy for all of it). Yummy.
Oh God.
That looks delicious!
Live to eat, eat to live.
COME ON DOWN!
Cartwright?
Now that's something I have got to try.
Probably because Chicken Fried Bacon has double fat than that of regular bacon. (Half of the double fat comes from the bacon itself, the other half comes from the chicken-fry batter). But what about Chicken-Fried Steak or Chicken-Fried Chicken? Is that high in fat, too?
Wouldn't smoking while eating affect the taste of your plate-full of grease?
I’m an A&M student, I work out on a ranch in snook, I eat here nearly everyday for lunch, still the same waitress, and the bacon is alright, not my favorite but it’s good
Has anyone been to this place in recent years? Is it still good, even since Frank's passing?
Yes!!!!just went this wend for fire school
omfg this looks so good i want to live in snook now :))))
Yummo, Most cleaver idea i've seen in food in a long time
I just made this for my daughter and I for breakfast!!!
Oh my god I want this SO bad...I'm only 130 pounds at 19... (for all the soon to be haters lol.) I do the new seasons organic stuff usually, but I love to try outrageous food as well, for my 19th birthday this year I had a 1/3 pound, Angus, four cheese burger with bacon, Hawaiian bacon, pineapple, one egg, and lettuce... to keep it healthy... ha ha ha. I died half way through and I'll never do it again, but this Bacon looks to be my 20th birthday stop... yum. It's always worth trying ONCE! ^^
Man that looks so yummy. As for it being good for you... if you only do it once in a while, how much damage could it do? Moderation usually wins the game when it comes to food.
After seeing that, I think I'm going to eat a salad tonight; plain... with many tomatoes! lol
The restaurant owner sounds amazing... he should be a character in Red Dead Redemption or some kind of film... such a cool voice. You just get the feeling he's killed someone lol.
I love the guy SMOKING while he eats his chicken fried bacon with gravy. he couldn't care less about his health if he tried.
Chicken Fried Steak/Chicken and chicken Fried Bacon go hand in hand. It'll make my mouth water!
Is this meal appropriate for a vegan diet?
She said BACON needed salt! OMG!
They. Are. My. Hero.
No questions about it.
Lol this makes me laugh and I'm proud to be a Texan. They just banned smoking in bars in Dallas maybe 6 months ago.
Dang...I'm starving now!! I guess I'm cooking like that for dinner.
PHANTASTIC !!
I'll be there in summer.
I want to try this sooooo much! Has anyone ever Tried to make it???? Suggestions?
@SethHesio Where do you think the bacon came from?
wow, god bless america from over the pond.....maximum respect to your culnary delights...i'm brave, but i'm not that brave!
"this is good. it just needs more salt."
what i heard was "cholesterol doesn't do it anymore. i need higher blood pressure."
lol but it still looks mighty good, think i'll try makin it some time
Well, after trying for 2 years to get out to Snook, my friend and I finally made it today and had our chicken fried bacon. The bacon had a very light batter and the cream gravy was seasoned well. The table behind us had steaks that covered the entire plate. Glad we made the trip but now my heart hurts....my cardiologist is gonna kill me. Well, I'm good for another 2 yrs. now.
Some of the best kolaches in the world come from Snook, Texas too.
I just ate some from this place. It was really pretty good, but it is true that you can hardly taste the bacon. The breading is good though. I may go back there for a Chicken Fried Steak sometime.
I'm gonna guess that in a town of fewer than 600 people, as long as you can get yourself to Snook, one of the locals can point you in the right direction. If you DO go, please PLEASE let us know how great it is.
This man is my new God. Is the narrator doing a Charles Kurault imitation?
Wonder what the life expectancy is in Snook?
I remember this place from college, back before the bacon thing. I used a story about how the steaks were too much for some people as a metaphor for the psychology of getting things done.
It probably tastes really good. However, you wouldn't catch me eating that. It's the best way to end up looking like the people in the video.
i am going to be trying to do that at home, looks yummy.
Lool, that sounds like perfect hungover to slightly still drunk food.
I wonder what's next "Kentyucky fried butter glaced with lard"? I'm so glad that they're forced to shut down MacDonalds where I live ^^
I'm gonna fry me some bacon!!! LOL
They can still smoke in restaurants?
OMG, I'm making a pilgrimage sometime there in my life
now there is a heart stopper.
Chicken fried bacon strips & a Diet Coke please
@ajacoub where are you from?
Good grief, I'd like to try that...just once, at least!
Thanks to this video, I'm hungry as hell right now. =\
That is true, but deinterlacing is so easy to do to boost the quality. Almost all monitors sold now (and in the past few years) are LCD so it makes a difference. It's really annoying to see lines go through everything that moves.
Looks good. I don't see a big deal in this. Everyone eat whatever they want. Tastes good, looks good, you want it and you are allowed to have it - go for it.
After Watching this video, my friend and I decided to make our own chicken fried bacon. I wanted to use a lighter vegetable oil, but friend said he wanted to do it right (or wrong) so we used pure lard. the strips tasted real heavy and every strip we ate we felt guilty. still it doesn't hurt to try it once.
that video made me hungry...and now i wish i lived in snook tx lol
All of you people saying "only in America", obviously havent been to Britain, the grand-masters of deep frying and fellow pork lovers! This doesnt seem any more unusual to me than battered sausage or black pudding.....
I'd try it! Can never go wrong with pork :)
I would so love to try this...once!
i'm makin' some tomorrow. i don't even eat pork but i gotta try that. wow!
I'm glad I live a thousand or so miles from this place otherwise I'd weigh 300 pounds. The steaks look fantastic.
