It was kind of a case of giving him something to do while not actually doing anything. The books can cover months in a few sentences because it's a historical outline. He went to Harrenhal, then a bunch of other stuff happened to everyone else, and he met up with them later.
George also said that D & D could've got 11 - 13 Seasons of the Original G.O.T. Series from the Book Material. But, D & D only got 4 Seasons. They ignored a lot of GOOD stories from the Book Material in the Original Series. The "Lady Stoneheart"(Catlin Stark) Storyline, is one example.
Who cares what GRRM says? It's now what? 5 years out from the end of S8. Even if we'd got 13 seasons (today) we'd still be at the end without tWoW completed so its irrelevant. GRRM hasn't even got to the middle of "Lady Stonehearts" narrative journey himself!!
It should have been an animated show, I wish they would stop trying to make it live action! Live action is so over-rated! You see what they have to do to make it work, they have to cut and cut and cut, and adapt every little thing. None of that would be necessary if it was just a animated show. Come on! HBO just wants a spectacle, they don't care about the story!
This is crazy with 2 years in between seasons. 10 years to release only 5 seasons, not cool, they are not doing the fans justice. By this point in time for GOT we got 3 satisfying seasons and they were already filming the fourth. Idk what changed and I know they had to strike but enough is enough, they gotta pull their heads outta their asses at HBO.
Agreed. I don't understand the long gaps between the seasons. GoT had more actors and story lines and they still managed to come out with more episodes faster. Very frustrating
What changed ? GoT was cheap to shoot, only like 1 or 2 huge battles in first 4 seasons and only 3 dragons with only Drogon being on screen usually. It's that simple.
the thing about the strikes is that season 2 was already written and ready to film, the actors from HOTD were NOT SAGAFTRA because they’re unionized by a different group that’s exclusive to Europe. the rule is that the European actors guild/union can still shoot if the US actors guild/union is striking because they’re not the same and they’re not connected. the dragon CGI is also an unhinged amount of expensive so it’s very unlikely HBO is going to greenlight all of the important parts without a guarantee of monetary return, which was their downfall because they’re going to lose it all because of the s2 finale. so many people are abandoning the show because it’s clearly not doing the book justice and GRRM has expressed his dislike of that.
@@tvojemankaGOT had 3 dragons with the same CGI structure with very few major CGI battles versus a show 100% based off of dragons and battles, the budget isn’t the same at all because the need is bigger and HBO is probably scared to give that huge budget GOT had after they tanked the last few seasons.
I personally don’t want to see more than one majors battle per season. Give the writers time to put it together, but give the characters time to anticipate what’s happening. Let it all come to a head. Early GOT was like a tapestry. Everybody and their stories a thread that would eventually weave in and out of someone else’s story. Let’s do that here.
That's you personally. so many people have been whining all season that they're watching to see dragons fight and there's not been enough of it. You can't please everyone.
@@Red1Green2Blue3 that’s also true it’s a compromise for sure. The whole Daemon nonsense got old quick, it was our character and just dragged on. That being said if we had all the dragons fighting in seasons 1 and 2 but everyone wants 5 or 6 seasons than what are we doing? No we can’t please everyone but at the same time a little logic and common sense. Everyone from GOT hated the lack of build up in the decline. We can’t then say “there’s not enough action and to much talking.” Like we can’t have it both ways.
It seems that’s all I do is rewatch great old shows. My biggest complaint is writers. They go on strike and what we get is NOT GOOD! It seems I’m constantly being left, wondering WTH!
No, i would work if the writers would portrait both sites as bad, but they trying to justify the blacks decisions… It would work if the all characters would show humanity a couple of times while they’re killing each other
Agreed. This is just an average show, does not even come close to the level of GOT. GOT s1-4 is out of this world. Hope that George finishes his books soon, and hope they remake the last 3-4 seasons of GOT
My dude, the ending leaked this season 2 is GOT S7 levels of bad And I hate that people defend it on"but dragon battles". That's exactly the key jangling that brought GOT down, dialogue is clumsy and unwitty, characters are one note and the narrative is just gone downhill

George needs to hand off the writing of all the asoif books and be a consultant to a writer he could trust because he’s too occupied with the tv series to finish just one book ! He needs to be expanding as much lore as he can he’s not getting any younger!
This season has been great. It's like watching the opening moves of a chess match between 2 players delaying the inevitability of taking pieces off the board and having to sacrifice their own in the process. I know everyone wants violent action packed and thrilling episodes with shocking deaths but that is feckless, ill considered, trifling. 😂 I just hope we're not forced to wait more than 16 months for season 3
Budget? Why didn't they do a battle that actually matters and that'll move the plot forward instead of doing an expensive nonsensical CG dragon chase scene/girlboss dragon face off for fan service? Doesn't make sense.
Even with the cost of the battles, the show should still be complete in 4 seasons. Unless Ryan creates arcs (like Daemon's arc this season?) to extend the show to 5 seasons. Does that mean a new season every 2 years? That is also unacceptable, especially as GOT managed to appear every April till season 8. And a full 10 episodes. And there were battles as well.
@Asdfghkdhhdj and SIGNIFICANTLY less CGI which is what makes these seasons take so long. As soon as CGI became a huge element (S7 & S8) production time ballooned. What's ironic is so many people have been complaining about not enough dragon fighting. More dragon battles will mean longer production times and less episodes due to cost.
These hallucinations are actually an insanely important lore reveal about harrenhall/weirwoods. You should watch some Michael Talks About Stuff discussions about this.
maybe. However, you gotta understand the logistical hoops they went thru this season to make some things happen (non-verbatim from one of the past documentaries). those increased costs. easy for us viewers to nitpick without insider knowledge. you cant just spend infinitely and go above budget.thats how you get terminated.
Yeah I'm sick of people doing record short seasons with record time off in between seasons (on top of record high salaries). It's been every show since COVID.
I doubt that *only 8 episodes* was a "creative decision" done by the showrunner. Nowadays every streamer forces their shows to have less and less episodes, because "number of people who watched a complete season until the end" is an important factor for their ratings of shows, and of course more people finish a season when there are less episodes. ^^ Soon we gonna have three-episode seasons... 😂🤣🤦♂🤦♂
You could do 40 episodes. Jace does an awful lot more. There are battles and characters they're cutting (and not necessarily the big budget ones). There are many places affected by this war, though you wouldn't know it watching the series. Helaena does more than look tragic and give out prophecies.
As of today it was confirmed by the creator that House of the Dragons will be ending after 4 seasons. The amount of episodes for the next two seasons wasn’t mentioned.
We need some good battles that they had in the original. It’s missed the mark on battles that last pretty much the episode . The Watchers on the Wall & The Battle of the Bastards were some of the best Choreographed battles I’ve ever seen on screen in a fantasy show.
They don't even have to be high action battles. Some events in HotD are just spooky as described. But I think at this point Butchers Ball will be altered. Battles will be shuffled around in the timeline. They may even make a "fan favorite" or two survive for no logical reason. My expectations are subverted and shaken, and not in a good way.
Honestly I’m not ready to think about house of the dragon ending I’m so attached but I realize it’s inevitable as is the plot line but I’m gonna cherish every moment of it
Damn! Saw the thumbnail and got hyped George made a TWOW book release announcement, cuz the title didnt fully show. Ive said before, I honestly feel you will be one of the first with that crucial announcement. 😊
What is the name of the 3rd show that you referred to as another spinoff. Will we manage to see 40 episodes. Especially when I hear that they will only have 3 seasons
I got what you feel and I won't denied that but I still really appreciate HBO. No other could have gone far for this TV format as solid as movie adatation
I just really hope they include Treason at Bitterbridge with Daeron Hugh and Ulf some point next season I believe that’s a pivotal part of the dance of dragons especially with them ending this season with the red sowing and riots in kings landing they should also keep the gold cloaks aiding daemon and rhaenyra in taking kings landing
They having Rhaenyra, Alicent, and random boats constantly going back and forth between them ruins the ultimate moment in this show that we’re supposed to get.
They need to make season 3 , 10-12 episodes to give us the full story . Shortening the season doesn’t do it any good at all & they need to stop deferring from the book so much .. what’s the point of doing a series if you’re not going to do it right ? Daemon’s character was wasted this whole season I think too .. he didn’t need to be at Harrenhal that whole time .. especially if they’re going to only give us 8 episodes 🤷🏻♀️.. you shorten the season then get to the main point of the season .. we could’ve got to see the battle of the gullet & the taking of kings landing .
I never read the books so that aspect doesn’t intrigue me. I do not imagine it going for five seasons. I find it often hard to follow, too slow, confusing about who is killing who and who is having sex with who
Idk why people are freaking out about 2 years between seasons, Breaking Bad final season had a 2 year gap, so did Game of Thrones season 8 (2 year gap for 6 episodes????). Stranger Things had nearly 2 years between season 2 and 3, as well as a 3 year gap for season 4. Rings of Power also had a 2 year gap between seasons. Season 3 HOTD is going to have some massive battles in it, with multiple full grown CGI dragons, the first 4 seasons of GOT had like 1 or 2 medium sized battles? Even Robbs war against the Lannisters had no screen time. I'd rather they take their time so we get some quality content, HBO dragons are without a doubt the best looking thing CGI has ever produced.
Those "medium sized battles" in GoT were among their best episodes. It wasn't necessarily the big CGI elements, either. Watchers on the Wall was very well done. Blackwater was a LOT of dialogue and setup and I loved that about it. You felt the anticipation. The scale was even conveyed by dialogue in several places. Hundreds will die! Thousands. This was also made possible by good writing around those episodes. If we didn't "know" the Hound by then we'd think him a coward. We spent time with Ygritte so it had impact when she died and Jon had to keep going anyhow. We'd seen Castle Black look so formidable yet here it was breached and broken. There's a lot of that lacking here, and it's happening in other series as well.
@@arisucheddar3097 I don't disagree that they were great episodes for GoT but quality writing doesn't equate to long production time. Just because these HOTD battles are large scale battles doesn't mean i think they will be good it's just the nature of the battles itself is grand in scale, hence the long production time.
Daemon's hallucinations have just about ruined this season for me. I don't care if they cancel the series if there's a two-year wait every time. Hell, I thought the strike was over!
the problem with hotd for me is . i could care less for the minor characters from minor houses. in GOT even tertiary characters like Brienne, Theon, and the Hound is very interesting to follow. even smaller characters like Bronn Podrick and Shae.
I Hate bronn with a passion I could've done without alot of him in GOT especially season's 5,6,7 an 8 all rubbish I just want to see more Targaryens their dreams, family an dragons I look forward to seeing Aegons Conquest with Visenya an Rhaenys to see Balerion the black dread young Vhagar an beautiful Maraxes
@AsdfghkdhhdjHe was originally an interesting character. But with each season, he became just a comedic clown for the viewer's entertainment, just like Tyrion at the end of the series. And who is the casual guy here?
Now it makes a little more sense that this season is slow as hell to spread out the budget but if they keep going on in this route a lot of people will feel bored and burnt out. The only solution is to have only a couple more seasons 10 episodes each with a bigger budget to help the pacing.
We've learned that "seasons" have been reconfigured. They can be 6 or even 4 episodes. The latest generation of corporate network executives underestimate audiences even more than previous generations. GOT fans don't require dragons and dragon fights, battles every episode. Pacing is our biggest criticism. Like Damien skulking around Harenhall or Rhaeneyra fretting at Dragonstone episode after episode.
As a fan i agree, but it's a bit rough if we should expect them to be able to so intimately close to George during this time, besides I would rather them concentrate on Winds of Winter anyway, personally anyway.
Exactly, I feel like they are possibly not giving him the respect or authority as he feels he deserves . After all he said it clearly, it's his universe.

They should’ve promoted it better and not saying it war time when it clearly wasn’t. Season 1 planting the seeds of war. Season 2 building armies making alliances. Season 3 total war. Season 4 aftermath.
HOTD season 2 was complete 💩 The pacing, character development and arcs. Make all the excuses you want. It should not be acceptable for the universe of The Song of Ice and Fire.
I love how people are defending this show knowing damn well they would be tearing it apart if David and Dan were running it and making these decisions 🤦🏾
What are peoples thoughts on The Cannibal being in the show? I’ve heard people say “So and so said The Cannibal is deffo going to be in it” and I’ve heard people say the exact opposite and everything in between. In the book he doesn’t have much bearing on the overall story. He’s never claimed by anyone. That is usually the type of thing they would cut out since it has no direct bearing or effect on the overall story line. It would be cool if one of the changes was instead of cutting out The Cannibal they cut out sheep stealer and had nettles or whoever claim The Cannibal. That would be a change I would be happy with.
I can see them needing at least 2 more seasons. We are at the end of Season 2 and the story is just getting started. There is SO much more story to tell.
40 eps was enough to do the first 4 ice and fire books. That was leaving tons of stuff out of course. To get this to 40 is crazy stretching. They made it 8 episodes for “pacing” bc they couldn’t go very far and it already feels like things move too slowly.

Can we just reset the whole word back to 2012 or something⁉️ Back when every new tv show had at least 20 episodes per season and dropped a new season twice per year?? Damn. We cant enjoy anything anymore.
IIIRC he said GoT could've went 10+ seasons if they didnt cut so much content, he did relent and understand that the writers and actors would lose interest. TLDR George has no say on how long this show will go, only Condal and the HBO execs will make that decision
Am I the only one who understands that although we’ve had 8 episodes, we’ve probably gotten 10 episodes worth of actual film run time? Almost every episode of HOTD season 2 has been well over an hour long.
HBO needs to go all in on HOTD and pay whatever it costs for potentially another hit series just like the original GOT it should be a no brainer and stretch for as many seasons as possible

If you think it served no purpose, you're a literal moron with a child's understanding of character development
Aegon Targaryen, Victarion and Euron Greyjoy, the Dornish plot, Stannis, Pink letter.
@@Red1Green2Blue3 You speak with the truth my friend. GRRM has to stop complaining and finish the books.

@Asdfghkdhhdj This season wasn’t as good as season 1 but they have plenty of time to redeem themselves.

At this point, the distractions are intentional.

More dragon battles will mean longer production times and less episodes due to cost.
they could have shortened more of Daemons hallucinations for "pacing" 😂

I doubt that *only 8 episodes* was a "creative decision" done by the showrunner.
Nowadays every streamer forces their shows to have less and less episodes, because "number of people who watched a complete season until the end" is an important factor for their ratings of shows, and of course more people finish a season when there are less episodes. ^^
Soon we gonna have three-episode seasons... 😂🤣🤦♂🤦♂
I'm not sure what made GRRM think they needed 40 episodes to do HOTD. It does make me think that he gave up on trying to finish TWOW though.
don't hope for TWOW. That's gone. We're never going to get that
Obviously. It's been over a decade
You could do 40 episodes. Jace does an awful lot more. There are battles and characters they're cutting (and not necessarily the big budget ones). There are many places affected by this war, though you wouldn't know it watching the series. Helaena does more than look tragic and give out prophecies.
We got a 1 hour long trailer of season 3.
House of the dragon will end before Winds of winter comes out...
As of today it was confirmed by the creator that House of the Dragons will be ending after 4 seasons. The amount of episodes for the next two seasons wasn’t mentioned.
This season’s been awesome. Sucks it’s only eight episodes tho
Waiting for years for the story to unfold isn't working for me. I think the series would have been better suited to 2 seasons with more episodes.
Caraxes prefers pigs instead of sheep. All other dragons prefer sheep. And that was wholesome, if you know, you know.
We need some good battles that they had in the original. It’s missed the mark on battles that last pretty much the episode . The Watchers on the Wall & The Battle of the Bastards were some of the best Choreographed battles I’ve ever seen on screen in a fantasy show.
You can thank the departure of Miguel Sapochnik for that one. I feel exactly the same.
@@arisucheddar3097 your explanations were dead on I would say. Probably one of the worst finales as far as action in any good series to date.

I dont want the pacing to be rushed, i like having a show like this to watch :P
I just really hope they include Treason at Bitterbridge with Daeron Hugh and Ulf some point next season I believe that’s a pivotal part of the dance of dragons especially with them ending this season with the red sowing and riots in kings landing they should also keep the gold cloaks aiding daemon and rhaenyra in taking kings landing
I'm thinking the "go with the gods" statement is more of a blessing when that's all they can afford to do for whatever story point being discussed.

I loved the slow pace honestly
I never read the books so that aspect doesn’t intrigue me. I do not imagine it going for five seasons. I find it often hard to follow, too slow, confusing about who is killing who and who is having sex with who
I imagine doing a show like this can be exhausting for everyone involved. So having shorter sessions can prevent people from getting burned out.
They should hire talking thrones guy…. Theoretical final season of a song of ice and fire was legit. Top tier.
We all agree 2 years is absurd - regardless of which show it is
Those "medium sized battles" in GoT were among their best episodes.

My hubby keeps reminding me that season 3 is two years away and i just wanna cry 😂
GRRM wants 40 episodes. I just want one book…
Okay! Well, can we get more storylines…more on the characters in between? At least?
Now it makes a little more sense that this season is slow as hell to spread out the budget but if they keep going on in this route a lot of people will feel bored and burnt out. The only solution is to have only a couple more seasons 10 episodes each with a bigger budget to help the pacing.
I have never clicked on an alert so fast...😂😂😂
We've learned that "seasons" have been reconfigured. They can be 6 or even 4 episodes. The latest generation of corporate network executives underestimate audiences even more than previous generations. GOT fans don't require dragons and dragon fights, battles every episode. Pacing is our biggest criticism. Like Damien skulking around Harenhall or Rhaeneyra fretting at Dragonstone episode after episode.
It’s not story driven it was because of the writers strike let’s be real here
lets be honest George doesnt even know the ending of the main series because he hasn't written it yet.
