A complete guide on how to buy and install a $7 DIY 2013-2018 Ford Focus ST Wing Riser instead of overpaying for a $150+ kit from Boomba and other brands. Take a trip to home depot with me to buy the bolts and washers needed for this modification - this will be a fun one to do with your friends! Remember get a 30mm bolt and a 3/4 inch spacer for a 3/4 inch rise OR a 40mm bolt with a 1-inch spacer like I did for a 1-inch rise. Helpful links below that I mentioned for all tools! That noise your hearing is your high pressure fuel pump, ecoboost motors are known to have a “rattle” or ticking noise from the HPFP, it’s completely normal.

My car suffers badly with that noise. Is it fixable? I’ve done 80k Miles in the UK.

@@dannyansell7844 I noticed the same noise and I'm at 90K here in the US, and then two days ago my check engine light went off with P1450 which is an error with the fuel tank / pump pressure for "Unable to bleed up fuel tank vacuum". Called my mechanic and told him the code and he said its usually an easy fix and common with the Ford ecoboost + capless fuel tank system. I'll get back on this next week if fixing this, and possibly replacing that pressure fuel pump, helps at all.

Made this list so I wont forget what to grab at Home Depot. Maybe this will help everyone else.
3x - Metric Cap Screw 8.8 M6-1.0 x 30MM
3x - .257'ID X 1/2"OD x 3/4"L
3x - Fiber Washer 1/4" x .032"
1x - 12pk 1/4 flat washers
Loud chatter is definitely injectors. Had this sound on mine for 3 years and thought it was timing chain as well. At least you know your injectors are working ;)
How do you correct it?
@@aaronphilip9461 Its normal sound for DI motors. The injectors are under high fuel pressure required for injecting fuel quickly in the cylinder, hence the loud sound. Port injection motors are a lot quiter since they require less fuel pressure.

Do a paint correction on the pillars then wrap with a clear vinyl or something

Got my ST 2 weeks ago and a wing riser was the first mod I did. Went with a $70 kit I found on amazon instead of spending $150 on a boomba kit. Wish this video was 2 weeks older so I didn’t have to drop $70😂😂. Anyways keep up the good work the ST build will be fun to follow!

I also used the electrical tape to wrap the spacers since I had it out to cover the clip holes anyway.

I just went to Home Depot myself to do this!!! I took your advice and painted the spacers black with glow in the dark neon green. Will be doing this in about 30 minutes when the paint drys.

Alot of people hate on the wing risers..i think they really add alot to the back of the car. I did the 1 inch 7.00 risers too. Lol i bought those to see how liked them then planned to buy the real ones if i did..after the install i was content with the diy deal..

That sound you are wondering about sounds like valves as you mentioned in an edit in the video just check with your mechanic before doing something crazy because it could just be something that has to do with eco boost they could just always make that sound and progressively get louder or worse over time. Hope this helped you in anyway possible

Grab a polisher with a mild polish to help reduce those swirls in that gloss black door trims. Just paint corrected my car and did those with my 3in polisher.
I really need to do this with mine just the fact that it's hard to wipe down the water between the glass and the wing after car wash. the looks is a plus.

That noise is completely normal. The ST has stupid loud injectors from factory. And as far as the pillars, it's just like paint. You can do a paint correction. But I'd recommend wrapping them. I bought precut carbon fiber wrap from TFB Designs. Definitely improved the look. BTW, I hit you up on insta for some pointers
GOT EM!!! That's hilarious! I just got a 2016 Ford focus ST Stock except for the blow off valve, i have had it for less than a week and i have already boughten the K&N Filter for it. I am just now starting to get into cars with this being my second after a 2001 chevy Cavalier, THank you so much for your video. Very informative

The Home Depot I went to went all the way up to 35mm for the bolts which sucks but I’ll try the 3/4 lift and if I like it I’ll try the full inch

I know you said you’ll do a red tint but incase you want it perfect and oem, a fiesta st 3rd brake light is red! But red tint definitely would be cheaper and better for your diy nature lol
I'm not a big gear head so I really don't know the technicals...but I bought a 2013 st on the 1st of this year. 5 months went by and this sound started and got worse over time, I ended up having to put a new motor in the car. Took it to multiple mechanics, some said timing chain, some had no idea, went to a motor specialist and ended up getting a swap. LMK what you think and good luck.
Do you think it work all good if I just did a half inch spacer to be a little more tame

The ticking is the lifters and the fuel injectors direct injection pump

that sounds the injectors, ST's are direct injection and have some fairly big injectors in them factory. trust me my wife always complains about the same sound lol

How sturdy is the wing after installation? I put a bike rack on my ST and two straps go over the wing. Just wondering how it will affect it.
It's direct injected, so the injectors are particularly loud because of the pressures they run at.

I have noticed the same noise with my Mazda 3. (Has a ford motor in the early years) and I think it has something to do with the lifters. Always has bothered me a bit
