    The way that christopher’s parents immediately were like ‘it’s not his fault but she should be sent away, why should he ruin his life because she got pregnant’ is painfully realistic, the double standards for men and women when it comes to pregnancy and having unexpected kids is insane especially in the 90s when this would be happening

    That’s the one thing that a lot of Lorelai haters seem to ignore - that there was a whole year between Lorelai giving birth to Rory and choosing to move to Stars Hollow. We have no idea how things were in that year that made Lorelai choose to move out. Were her parents overriding her choices in how to raise Rory? How much was Christopher helping? Where was Christopher? We have no idea of any of these things and yet people act as judge and jury that she just ran away for no reason immediately after giving birth 🙄

      I never considered that perspective. Although, I think the question answers itself in the first episode of the series. When Lorelai has to ask Emily and Richard for money, they instantly use it as a mechanism to control her and treat her like she has an obligation to now put up with their judgement and abuse because she "owes" them. I would have left too.

      Secondo me comunque questa è una cosa che hanno modificato dopo. Perché inizialmente, specialmente nella puntata dove appare la vecchia proprietaria dell'Indipendence Inn che ha fatto da seconda madre a Lorelai, sembrava proprio che Lorelai fosse piombata lì poco dopo la nascita della bambina. Che ha più senso. È rimasta a casa loro per un anno intero e non sono riusciti a farla sposare? Cosa ha fatto in quell'anno? Non regge.
      L'unica spiegazione è che quando Emily dice che il girello è lì da un anno, sta a dire che era stato acquistato da quando Lorelai era incinta ed effettivamente è rimasto un anno, fino a che Rory non aveva pochi mesi

    • @JessehNotBovverd
      @JessehNotBovverd Місяць тому +9

      @thisismorces811 actually, when Mia and Lorelai are talking about when they met, Mia specifically said that it was nearly 15 years ago to the day. That was in season 2, meaning Rory would be turning 17, which means that she was about a year old or a little more when Lorelai left her parents home, so the timeline did not change. And they didn’t “get her married” in the year she lived with them because she didn’t want to get married. She was raising Rory, probably very differently to how the Gilmores wanted her raised, which was probably a big instigator for her running away, they were probably taking over raising her daughter and she had enough.

      @@JessehNotBovverd in effetti riguardando anche lo spezzone dove Rory conosce i genitori di Christopher, Lorelai dice che non la vedevano da quando aveva meno di 2 anni. Secondo me manco i produttori hanno bene idea della coerenza della lore (non sarebbe la prima volta, basta vedere lo sbaglio fatto col padre di Jess. Nella puntata di introduzione di Jess, Luke dice che il padre li aveva abbandonati due anni prima. Invece poi nella terza viene fuori che era scappato appena nato Jess. Che aveva molto più senso con la caratterizzazione di Jess. O anche con Trix, che inizialmente era data per defunta e poi invece appare, nel giro di poche puntate tra l'altro) perché a me pare poco plausibile che Lorelai, con la sua etica del farcela da sola, e con la pressione di Emily e Richard di farla sposare, sia restata più di un anno a casa dei genitori a fare...boh, non si sa cosa. Per poi un giorno svegliarsi e dire "ok me ne vado". Mi sembra più plausibile sia andata via quando Rory era neonata, poi non so

    Christopher: "She's pretty..."
    Lorelai: "She's perfect."
    But for GG it was all
    Christopher: "She's Perfect."
    Lorelai: "No, Rory was perfect."
    Ig some can see it as mean from Lorelai but it hits hard how at 16 she had this accident and as soon as she saw Rory she fell in love and knew she'd be there for her, Chris didn't get that until he had GG and Lorelai still felt it after all these years when Rory was older (and she definitely still remembered what Christopher said about Rory all those years ago.

      @@LovedLamb it is a really painful thought, of course if they understand and decide for themselves to go through with abortion, that's how it should be, but to just be forced into a certain situation is never okay.
      This scene makes it seem like Lorelai understood the weight of the situation from here on out and Christopher wasn't yet understanding that this wasn't just an opportunity to get married to and stay with Lorelai forever. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it does seem that way to me, especially with the parallel between Rory and GG's births

      @@Zainab-vw2ij I don't believe teenagers can choose to have an abortion, I had a friend who was forced by her stepmother to get one, but she wasn't the same since. I believe it should be normalized again to make sex before marriage taboo so less girls think they have to lose their virginity before entering adulthood (cuz during my childhood everyone was so fixated to lose their virginity).
      She did not want to marry Christopher cuz she never truly liked him and she probably only slept with him cuz of her mommy and daddy issues. Once she realized that a similar future as her parents might await her she ran away and ghosted everyone. I also do not believe abortion was even an option for Lorelai for she has grown up in a catholic environment despite having had fornication with Christopher, which I think was again a way to rebel against her parents. Even when they dated, she cared more of the image of them together than him as a person. She always liked Luke the most.

    • @Zainab-vw2ij
      @Zainab-vw2ij Місяць тому +3

      @ I agree too, I'd moved off from talking about Lorelai and just meant general teens with the abortion thing, I think it shouldn't be normalised to go into a relationship/marriage experienced but at the end of the day that's each individual person's opinion and decision to make.
      Bring forced to keep a child also ruins a lot of teens, that's why the decision should stand with the teen, if they believe they're old enough to engage in risky adult activities then they should face the adult decision as a consequence of their actions.
      But yeah Lorelai was definitely not given abortion as an option, she did say about all the priests(?? Rabi?? Sorry I'm not sure what term is correct to use here) that her parents brought in even after she'd already lost her virginity.
      And I agree with you on the Christopher part, as Lorelai told Rory "every girl needs a bad boy at some point in her life" (not a direct quote, I'm just putting down what I vaguely remember about the conversation).

    For people wondering/asking why Lorelai left and why he didn't stay with her parents, remember the season when Rory was living in the pool house and then after Emily thought Logan and Rory were getting too close to sex, moved Rory into the main house, and became bit controlling? That's why Lorelai left. I always thought that storyline did an excellent job of answering that very question. It was pretty clear to me why Lorelai felt she had to get away. Whether or not she should have left or whether or not it was best decision is another story, but I completely understood her motivation and why she made the choice she made.

      I've learned that just because someone loves you doesn't mean they are going to treat you right. Contrary to The Beetles, you need more than love in relationships. Treating someone right means swallowing your pride when you make a mistake, admitting you make mistakes, being consistent when rectifying mistakes. Show has shown us a lot on just how prideful Emily can be and how that really causes a lot of fights between her and Lorelai. Just because your didn't mean to hurt someone, doesn't mean you didn't actually hurt someone.

      Emily’s problem was never lack of love. We see throughout the series how much she cared for and loved Lorelai.
      Her issue is that she is stubborn, controlling and has no conflict resolution skills. After rory’s failed birthday party, lorelai said it best: she tries to control everyone down to each small detail, and when it fails she simply refuses to listen and ices out the person.

They could have gotten a friggin nanny and Lorelei and Christopher would have lived their lives as usual

    • @summersun6536

      Emily sure cared about Lorelai, but she cared most about herself and her image in the society in the first place. That idea lead all her actions. And being publicly shamed by the fact that your own child ran away from you can make such a person REALLY suffer. That is not necessarily caring about someone. Lorelai was 16 a child that was suppressed in every way but also a new mom who had to take responsibility for her own child and had to grow up fast and emancipate from her own parents. Since her parents did not respect that fact sh kind of had to run away to do the best for her own child, who she fully took responsibility for although she was scared as heck. I do think that Emily does love Lorelai, though, since she later in the series asks why she an Lorelai don't have a relationship like Lorelai and Rory whcihs shows that she wishes for it but Emily is a victim of her own distanced upbringing.

The only thing that changes when you’re over 18 is you’re able to choose murder yourself instead of being manipulated by hospital staff. And yes they are extremely manipulative. Look up Abby Johnson. She used to be Planned Parenthood’s employee of the year. She talks about it how she was trained to manipulate women financially and convince them they had no other options. Then she had a moment where she realized the horror of what she was doing. She left the industry, and now she runs a charity helping abortionists get out of that awful career and into careers they can be proud of. Christopher seemed very willing to be an involved and supportive father. Lorelai left and didn't give him the opportunity to be part of his daughter's life. In the years that followed he had little interactions with Rory, and was for the most part estranged. It's interesting to me that Lorelai did that to her daughter and baby daddy.

      When he said he was willing to marry her she was only a few months pregnant. When she left Rory was a year old. We have no clue what happened in that time but considering we don't see Christopher again until after the birth and we don't see him living with them in the scene where she leaves with Rory, we can assume he didn't stick around and live with them or work for her father like that original plan. Also, plenty of people move to be closer to their children. He could have moved to Stars Hollow at any point in Rory's life and chose not to. He could have played a more active role at any point. He continuously chose not to.

In my country nobody can get married before 16, between 16 and 18 they can only get married with permission from the parents and childcare services, but only with good reasons, like expecting a baby together or a terminal illness.

    I’m sorry but Lorelai was actually a terrible daughter. I get that Emily was insufferable in a lot aspects but her one goal has always been to do her best for her daughter, she did her best based on what she knew, and Lorelai did nothing but push her away, judge her for not being perfect and isolate her from a lot of experiences she KNEW meant a lot to her mom (like driving her daughter to the hospital when she was in labour). She literally treated her mom the way she accused her mom treated her (ex. saying her mom was always judgemental and critical??? Like??? That’s how she is to her mom, wayyyy more than her mom ever was of her. Plus her mom was honestly pretty reasonable with a lot of the things that Lorelai acted like were the end of the world strictness). Honestly, Lorelai criticized her mom more than her mom ever did her. Emily always just wanted to be the best mom she could be, she helped Lorelai every chance she got and literally all she asked for was for Lorelai to spend time with her. Lorelai got annoyed at anything to do with her mom, like geez I get that ur life wasn’t perfect but at least Emily acted like a mom. Lorelai thought she did such a good job with Rory by being her friend (instead of mom) and she royally screwed Rory over. Lorelai was 10000x more stubborn, insufferable, ungrateful and irresponsible than her mom. The problem is she never wanted nor deserved a mom, she wanted a mom who didn’t give a rats ass about her and would just let her do anything she wanted. I grew up with a mom who didn’t give a f about me or my existence and I would kill to have a mom like Emily, as annoying as I know she was, at least she loved her daughter and wanted to be in her life and always tried to do her best with what she knew. She always had Lorelai’s back, and she loved her unconditionally as shitty as Lorelai treated her. People like Lorelai deserved to have been born and raised without any mother at all

    I have rewatched this series no less than 8 times in its entirety. Its a go to for me. I loved Emily and Richard and in as much as Emily could be controlling, Lorelis actions were worse. Running away and keeping the baby away from the family was not justified. Lorelei turned out yo be a good mother but she was a brat as a kid. Always doing the opposite of what was asked of her. She sidetrackdd her own life and always blamed her parents for it. She realized her mistake when Rory started to spend more time with them and Lorelei got jealous because of the opportunities presented to Roey. The same opportunities that Lorelai ran away from.
    Don't get me started with Rory. What a disappointment she turned out to be.

  • @beautifulangel7723
    @beautifulangel7723 3 місяці тому +22

    This is the one thing about Lorelei that I absolutely can’t stand. Lorelei’s selfish stubborn streak caused her to make her daughter’s life harder than it needed to be.
    What are some of things that a child most needs to be a successful in life? A two-parent household. A good education. Financial security, etc. And Lorelei took all that away.
    Chris was ready to marry her, but she stubbornly refused. So, she forced Rory to grow up in a fatherless household and then Rory was forced to watch her mother run through boyfriends. And as the child of single mother, nothing is more upsetting or disturbing than watching your mother run through boyfriends like candy. 😖 Anyway, although Rory grew up in a nice house for most of the series, I still can’t forget that Lorelei took her 1-year-old daughter out of her parents nice home and chose to live in in a shed instead. What mother in her right mind would voluntarily raise her toddler in a freaking shed? And for what? Some selfish desire to have “independence”? 😒 And then she keeps Rory’s grandparents out of her life for selfish reasons and this forces Emily to essentially blackmail her own daughter so that they could have a relationship with their grandchild. And then after all of this, Lorelei has the audacity to go back to her parents and ask them to fund her daughter’s education? How dare she. Honestly, the worst kind of people in the world are those who ignore family members until they want money from them. What happened to wanting to be independent and making her own way in life, hm? 🤔
    And honestly, this is why I kinda feel sympathetic for Lorelei‘s parents. We’re they stuck-up snobs? Sure. But at the same time…they were good parents just trying to do the best by their daughter and they literally set up her to win in life. But she made a mistake and then she continued to spit in their faces after the fact. She was selfish, stubborn, childish, flighty, immature, and borderline self-destructive. And I feel never understand how the fandom defends Lorelei‘s decision making and parenting skills over her parents. They were the only ones with their heads on straight.

      Dude she was sixteen. You seriously supporting child marriage against people’s consent? If it was a choice between being forced into marriage in a huge house vs freedom in a shed, I’m in the shed. Lorelei is flawed, but this is a horrid take.

    • @bornarose11
      @bornarose11 2 місяці тому +10

      A forced two-parent household is a horrible take! I know from experience that having only one parent present that loves you is a thousand times better than living with two parents that obviously don't love each other that much and are together just for you! Rory (and everyone) would have suffered much more in that situation. But in the end she actually grew up loved and safe with an entire town that cared for her instead of feeling like a mistake that ruined her parent's lives
