Whenever Rory is feeling lost she wants Dean back because he is indeed safe, but when she is stable and happy again she wants excitement and/or status, I think this scene is also telling that Dean realized that

@@raissalianna889 Probably comes from being raised on running away from problematic people and using intelligence and pop culture as defence mechanisms. It's why she's better off with Jess than with Dean or Logan, because Jess has the intelligence, pop culture savviness and lack of upbringing privilege required to see through her defences, and also doesn't need her to provide stability and perspective in his own life. Really would have been nice if the revival had skipped past Logan and gone straight to where she actually would have been at 32, with Jess while Lorelai is with Luke. Them both having 9 year old kids at that point would have been much easier to swallow than the '4 words' twist.
I think it was a good ending for Dean but I also don't think it was meant to be a happy ending. You get the sense that he is stressed and not really in control of his situation. He talks about his wife's sisters boyfriend that he dislikes rather than about something he cares about. He puts down where he lives and worried about sick kids. But I think the comment about the stolen stuff was really telling. It showed that he remembered but moved on. He could have easily made the comment flirty but the way he says it is a pretty clear no to Rory. Unlike with Jess where we still see him longing and in her control but denying it to other people. Dean's life is not all butterflies and rainbows but at least he understands and accepts his position. This gels really well with the overall theme of privilege in the revival. Rory is bad at her relationships. She treats the men in her life as objects. But because she is lucky enough to be born with beauty(they really make a point to contrast this with Paris and Lane) she still has guys chasing her. Dean is not shown to have found a perfect life. This would undermine the overall theme of the power of privilege. But he is the only one of the 3 guys to make the right choice with Rory. He wins the team (dean vs jesss vs logan) battle but only in the moral sense. The revival is about realism. In a normal TV universe he either gets Rory or Rory is seen as bad and he gets a different better girl. But in the revival all he gets is the moral victory.
Though I really hated the revival, this scene was great since it shows the contrast between someone who's moved on and matured ( Dean) and somebody who still lives in the past. You can feel Rory's regret in her eyes and how she speaks to Dean.
true, the part where she says "i wish i would have met you when i was more mature" seems like she really truly wanted to be him. Also that part with the corn starch feels like she hasn't let go of her feelings for her when she first met him...While the part with Rory and Jess was good. You can definitely tell that it was only really Jess that wanted to rekindle their relationship, but the way she talked to Dean seems way more intimate even if it was just a couple of minuets of screen time. I honestly wanted the revival to Dean still being single and he still driving the car that he gave to Rory while his on his way to the shop where they first met. And slowly you see Rory sneak and pretend like she wanted to buy something (same as the first time they had their first kiss). It goes to a shot where she gets the corn starch and his holding 2 drinks and they lock eyes and smile (i haven't forgotten about you smile). Then cuts to a couple years later where she visits stars hallow and see's her mom in the coffee shop with Luke, goes inside and has a chat with the last words being "Rory: Mom. Lorelei: yeah? Rory: im pregnant"
@@darilbalolot3302 Yes. Rory blew it big time and, as much as that happened many years ago, she clearly still has remorse and feels kinda humbled talking to someone who's moved on and seems happy as she is a total mess and has no purpose.
This was the perfect way to wrap up Dean and Rory. I'm not Team Dean, but he was so important. Just as Rory describes him here, the perfect first boyfriend.
the way she talks seems like she has feeling for him still, that it never really went away even after all those years. The fact that she still remembers all the hand gestures really well is a sign that from time to time she would reminisce about their time together. I feel sad that they wrapped up their story in a place everyone knew was their first kissing scene, it kinda shows that the writer's were truly leading on to them ending up together in the end but again Amy just had to ruin it.

He’s “stable” and I think she’s jealous of that and thinks her life would be that if she would’ve ended up with him. But I never really sensed love towards Dean by her.

It’s so hurtful, sometimes this does not make any difference anymore, you start just feel worse, exactly as dean shows in the end of the scene with the phrase "pay this time” meaning “never do the same with anymore else or nobody should pass for it”. Because I know, I pass for some like this before. You just remember all the pain and this not comfort, because time never comes back neither the scars you receive.
I never liked Dean but somehow I really love how he behaves in this scene. Rory still lives in the past but he seems so content and happy and still is polite although she obviously has some issues. But he has moved on. He is so over Rory and I think he deserves that.

I loved this, as a Dean fan. He finally got a chance to shine and show what a nice, chill guy he could be. I'm happy Dean got his big happy and he grew up and got over Rory.

It's sad that a lot of fans don't like Dean. I think people forget that he was also a teenager figuring out life and relationships. People really expected a lot from him, but his insecurities made him so human and realistic. Also, Rory dragging him along when she clearly was interested in Jess didn't help the matter. He really loved Rory. I'm so glad they brought him back to show that he is a really good person who always wanted the best for Rory. Obviously now that he's older there is more maturity but his heart is still so kind, which you can see in his conversation in this scene. This is why there is a part of me that will always be Team Dean.
I freaking love Dean! He is my favorite. I feel at this point she don’t deserve him. When she started liking Jess, I felt betrayed. I couldn’t even watch the show 😂. I loved Logan though. But Dean will always be my day 1. I appreciate that the writers don’t be tearing down Dean’s character to make Rory look better. They could’ve easily went that route. At his core he was a good guy. Flawed like us all but really a good guy. Never underestimate the power of an individual making you feel safe 🥰.

Dean grew up to be quite the catch and I think Rory has some regrets. He is smoking hot and funny and sweet. She is the one who missed out. I would be kicking myself lol

Dean was in the revival for only 3 minutes. But those 3 mins says a lot about his character. How he has moved on with his life and how he is happy. He was indeed the best 1st boyfriend.

I'll guess it's a monster that hangs around, feeding peoples happiness and making them make terrible decisions. Ill bet it kills a kid or two here and there as well. I think its been in stars hollow for a while as it grew up and imprinted on people that lived in the area. But, it hadn't reached maturity and the height of its powers yet until around the time of the revival. "Dean" initially showed up and hung around for that reason, trying to figure out where this creature was. The creature however was young and unskilled, and so its abilities are weak. Eventually he had to give up and move out. But lo and behold, it came to maturity and everyone is making a terrible series of choices. Rory not breaking up with Paul and staying around with Logan, Lorelei not marrying Luke or having kids with him, Lane staying in stars hollow and living her mother's life, Jess not just asking Rory out when he sees her at the newspaper place. But I think "Dean" got him in the end, and "Taylor" mysteriously disappeared. Think it's coincidence that "Dean" worked for him for so many years? We didn't know WHEN Taylor showed up, but I'm sure the creature has morphing and perception filter abilities. And people knew in some way anyway, considering how irksome the guy made everyone feel all the time. It's only when its dead that the townspeople realised they'd only known Taylor from about a year before "Dean" showed up as a teenager. I rest my case.
Still not a fan of Dean. He may have been to protective and he was a hot head. Was married to a Dean. Yikes. Then we divorced he cheated on me and other things not mentioning. But after 26 years being divorced we are friends. He apologized we have a daughter. He grew up. But no hot heads in my life.. So you people who love Dean he grew up but so did Jess. I think Jess is a better man myself. Jess got RORY back at Yale.. He was not a bad boy. He had lousy parents.. He was lost.. Had no structure. That's why he fought Luke. He never had anyone care about him.. But look how he turned out..
God, this made me cry. They'll always be friends. Her voice kinda breaks when she talks about the corn startch and just for a minute, she's transported back to that day, to simpler times. To her first ever boyfriend, the first guy whom she loved and who loved her. Built her a car, took her to her school dance, protected her. But Rory deep down knows that it could never have been but she's happy that he's happy, that he got his dream, the wife, the kids, a loving family and she thinks to herself, he must be a great dad, a good husband. She'll always love him and he'll always want the best for her. It's a wholesome friendship. I love that.
It is so hurtful... meeting people from our past. A glimpse of a life we could have had if it wasn't for our decisions, our mistakes, our faults. Some things in life we can never go back to and it's a damn shame. As someone who visits my hometown and the city I went to university in regularly, it is an everpresent ache to see it all through different eyes.
Ironic how both Jess and Dean matured, pulled their lives together and are content in adulthood whilst Rory does not have a handle on her life at all. Especially considering Rory was considered out of both boys league when she dated them. I grew up with GG and Rory was such a role model, until season four when her character became selfish and self-absorbed. I don't like her at all anymore and really really hope she does not end up with Jess if the show ever comes back. He can do better. The girl had a loving and supportive family and so many opportunities, often handed to her on a silver platter and she squandered it.
Completely agree. I was watching the reload and looking at Rory with disbelief. This girl is a hot mess. She went to Yale for calling out loud. I thought she would have done better than Paris. Paris, who is even a hot mess, is doing better than her. I watched this scene cringing because she not even hiding that she's a hot mess and admitting she made a mistake.
I consider that the character of Rory never really liked reality. As a teenager she spent her time reading or watching movies. If Rory did not succeed like the other characters it is because Rory cannot find his place in this hard and unforgiving world that is modern society. If she tries to write, it is because it is the very essence of her soul: to escape into another reality, to use words to better live life. And although she got the money from her grandparents, her relationship with money was complicated (she experienced precariousness, modest life then the life of the privileged). Rory had a heart and a great sensitivity. I can well imagine the fact that she stopped studying at her bachelor's degree and the fact that she failed to launch her career.
I don't know if the writers intended it that way but this scene makes me die a little for Rory. It's like she keeps bringing up past moments again and again in the hopes of getting a spark of recognition/connection out of him and he clearly isn't interested, but she keeps trying. It's like, take a hint, girl! In one sense it's a very realistic depiction of what can happen when two exes meet up, but it's a bit painful to watch!
Yes! Especially when they talk a out Clara, it was weird what Rory said about being her first love and that she would get over him (I guess that’s what she was going to say when she stopped herself), but clearly Rory hasn’t gotten over Dean.
She’s gotten over him but does one ever truly forget their first love? Even if it was puppy love. That’s the case here. She knows Dean isn’t exactly ‘The One’ for her but she will appreciate their time spent together.

The people who hate him have blinders on. They act like because he was protective of Rory from Tristan and Jess, who were both abusing her and trying to break them up, he was this awful controlling monster when really he built her a car, he was always there, always made her feel safe, was supportive and nice to all of her family and friends even when it was undeserved, etc.

I am rewatching the show and i will proudly say that i am happy dean didn't end up with rory. He was such a great guy. He gave everything he had to rory and he respected rory's friends and family. He did everything he could to make her happy and rory treated him badly for so long. I am so happy that he is happy now and has left stars hollow. I hate that place.
I love how "Deans" wife's name is Jenny, which sound a lot like Gen. And "Jenny" is pregnant with a girl, and at the time they were filming this Gen was pregnant with Odette.
What ppl don't get is that the writers HAD to make him a bit controlling and jelous at the end in order to end their relationship. The truth is Dean when he was in his character was absolutely perfect and their relationship was too good to be broken off so the writers had to make Dean go a bit out of character in order to make room for Jess besides he had all the rights to be angry at Rory i think she didn't treat him the way he treated her and even she admits and regrets that! Jess or Logan could never treat Rory with the love, care, and respect Dean treated her. It's no coincidence that Dean was her first bf the writers did it on purpose to portray the nostalgia in a first love. The writers had to find some way to break them of so they had no option but to change the characters a bit and that i think seemed way out of the blue. They would've made a perfect couple but i'm glad Dean is still happy and back to his normal self 💗
Exactly. The writers were just making the fans more invested in the series by creating conflict between Rory and Dean. Its sad that it had to come at Dean's expense though. Dean was by far the best written characters on the show. However, Rory still could've been nicer to Dean and they could've had their happily ever after. Yet if things did turn the other way, there would be no Sam (Supernatural) so there's that.
At the end?? He losted because she couldn't say I love you back immediately without trying to listen and then made a scene in front of her schoolmates because hey he never had conversations in private with her when he wasn't happy! After all is the same guy who dumped her in public twice..

Watching this scene while still rewatching season 1 was absolutely gut wrenching because the nostalgia hits in this weird way and reminds me of the passage of time and that the characters I loved so much grew up and it can never go back... they are now strangers to each other. it hurts my heart and I can’t articulate exactly why.
As much I couldn’t fall in love with the whole revival, I definitely fell in love with this scene in particular! It paid a lot of respect to their past and personalities.

Same Rory who refused to let Dean, or any other boy she even looked at, go. I like to think after the divorce, they did reconcile and Dean apologized and then they both went their own ways. I'm sure Lindsay also got her happy ending of being a suburban wife with a devoted husband, kids, white picket fence and all.

Exactly. Rory was terrible to Dean. The writers purposely made her character that way to keep fans invested for the next episode but all it did was tarnish the relationship that she couldve had with Dean in the longrun. She verbally and emotionally took advantage of Dean, chewed him up and spat him out for Jess.
I am glad that Dean found happiness in his life. He and Rory could have been a great couple, but everything went to hell when she fell in love with Jess. I'll always be #TeamDean
Teenage Dean Forrester was my first tv crush as a kid. He was the whole reason I ever watched this show. So happy Jared Padalecki literally became one of the best actors to come out of this show. Hard to believe that almost 20 years later and I still fangirl over him. Actually, not that hard to believe...hes amazing!

He was always so freaking selfish, you know? I get that he grew up in a cold household, but so did Lorelai, and she was never entitled like him. Argumentative and a bit childish at times (okay a lot of the time), but always compassionate to people who had a shitty time. Logan gets accused of being entitled and he argued like the spoiled rich kid he was. He raises hell with the life and death brigade, not giving a shit about what happens to the people around him. Confronted by Jess coming to see Rory and he devolves into a possessive douche bag. He let Rory quit Yale. He hates his dad for saying the things he did about Rory that got her to quitting Yale, but he never refutes them. It takes Jess to ensure she gets back. He asked her to marry him and move to wherever with him, and he just completely overlooks her ambition, saying oh yeah, there are newspapers out there. You'll be good following me and my career right? cos it IS a lot more important than yours. He gets defensive when she says no and breaks it off then. He then ignores the feelings of his fiance and dabbles with Rory continuously, getting her pregnant! like she isnt having a hard enough time as is. (yes, she is also responsible here, but that's beside the point). He wont give a shit about his kid ill bet. He will set up a funds account under the table to keep the kid out of his life and Rory quiet. A 50s era husband hidden behind a larrikin exterior without the excuse that they did, it's just the times, everyone's sexist! No Logan. Not anymore they aren't.

I always love Dean. He was sweet and gentlemanly, understanding and always went with the flow. He was a good first boyfriend, and I honestly think she was happier with Dean than with Jess. But Rory did not appreciate him enough. I'm glad that he now has someone he loves and is happy. But I do think that now Jess has grown up, he could be good for Rory.

I felt the opposite. They were each others first loves. He asked her questions. They both felt sentimental that’s all it was. And he responded “pay for it this time,” which lets her (and is) know that he understands the significance of the corn starch. I don’t think he didn’t want to talk to her but I think it’s a LITTLE awkward to tell your first love about your wife and kids when you both know you once imagined that would be each other. Even though you’re happy now, it’s still awkward. Its awkward BECAUSE their is still a part of you that loves that person/remembers that love… you’re trying to share your life but you feel the little bits of hurt you are causing to both.. of course you are happy for that person and want the best for them… doesn’t mean it doesn’t pinch a bit.
This is the perfect redemption arc for their romance. It wasn't meant to be but they ended up on good terms, imo this is the best ending they could have picked for her and Dean's relationship.
2:00 this is dean realizing for the first time that rory is still rory and rory is trying to string him along _again_ because she's in a bad place in life. dean's not perfect, but he matured and rory didn't, and he understands now that rory only ever wants him when she's feeling destabilized and he's no longer falling for it
I was very disappointed with the revival but this was wonderful to me. Dean was a good guy who made some bad choices as a young adult but those choices don't define him.
I haven’t watched Gilmore girls since I was a kid so I obviously don’t remember much, but I don’t remember being particularly fond over dean, but now that I know him as Sammy he’s my favorite on Gilmore girls... weird how that is
i really loved dean on this one - he has matured and obvi learnt from his past mistakes and experiences. and i'm so soft for rory being grateful for dean. yeah this is the closure that rory and especially dean deserves.
THIS is the Dean that I liked and wish we saw. But I'm also Team Jess so if this was the Dean that Rory brought out of him, there would be no chance of them so I guess I'm okay with that lol. But I really do love him in this scene and the scene itself, it's too sweet and one of the only moments in the revival that made me feel like I was actually watching the series again :)
Awww. I love these two together. I haven’t watch the final episode but this scene took me back in time when I was young and was obsessed with Gilmore Girls. This was a really nice closure for me 😅 These two actors had a really amazing chemistry. I hope we see them together in a different tv series.
Jess was Surly to Bed, Surly to Rise. He kept trying to isolate Rory, never really blended with her. He kept trying to bend her in his path. Dean got Rory and Lorelei. He gave the perfect summary of both to Max: their schticks, references, patterns and habits. He didn't try to isolate or bend her. She, however, didn't really make room for him in her life.
Yes! Thank you. I always say, Dean worked, went to school, played sports, and always made time for Rory. Jess, by his own admission, said he didn’t have to try anymore because he already “had her.” Plus, he almost forced her into sex; something that Team Jess ignore or excuse. Also, Rory admitted to Lorelai that Jess treated her like dirt, which no one really talks about.

This scene broke my heart, It was so bitter sweet. Rory, like her mom is not good in relationships. however, I understand they were both so young and the timing was not good. This was the only scene I cared about with the revival. As a side note, enough with the Supernatural comments, WE KNOW. Don't get me wrong I love both shows but after hearing/reading the same comments about "Sam being Dean and Dean being Sam" for the last 13 years on every "Dean on Gilmore Girls" videos is getting very annoying. Its not a big deal or that mind blowing and at some point enough is enough, especially after 13 years of it.
I always was tean dean and was always asking myself and feeling sorry for dean that they broke up and his heart got broken but seeing him like this, beeing so mature and beeing able to move on makes me soo incredibly happy right now. People saying they dont like Dean or were never team Dean.... when deep inside Dean is the almost perfect example of how guys should treat the women in their lives. It was Rory's loss. It wasn't Dean who was controlling and over-protective, it was Rory who was lying and insincere to him.
Dean was a pretty good boyfriend who tried to treat Rory right but still had room to grow... before Jess came along and drove a wedge between them. Then it was Rory who really hurt Dean. I'm glad this scene exists, just to show that there WERE good times between them before they hurt each other and went their separate ways. In the end, it seems like they wanted different things. I think she and Logan are more suited for each other as adults.
Although I was not just sad but genuinely upset by the turn Rory's career took, with her giving up even trying to fullfill her journalistic ambitions and settling for writing a book that was not even her own original idea, that part got me. The words she came up with to describe Dean right on the spot were truly beautiful and the flow of her speach so perfect and if i thought that this was what she truly wanted to do I'd totally be rooting for her.
Dean is so handsome. He had his issues, but he matured and became really great character. Its sad that Rory is kind of melancholic about theem? As he truly moved on and im happy for him
Dean was a truly perfect boyfriend - just not the perfect boyfriend for Rory. He never matched her intellectually, and didn’t challenge her in any way. I’m glad he found happiness though.
Whenever Rory is feeling lost she wants Dean back because he is indeed safe, but when she is stable and happy again she wants excitement and/or status, I think this scene is also telling that Dean realized that

It's why she's better off with Jess than with Dean or Logan, because Jess has the intelligence, pop culture savviness and lack of upbringing privilege required to see through her defences, and also doesn't need her to provide stability and perspective in his own life. Really would have been nice if the revival had skipped past Logan and gone straight to where she actually would have been at 32, with Jess while Lorelai is with Luke. Them both having 9 year old kids at that point would have been much easier to swallow than the '4 words' twist.
I'm glad Dean escaped Rory's clutches and actually went on to have a happy life.

I think it was a good ending for Dean but I also don't think it was meant to be a happy ending. You get the sense that he is stressed and not really in control of his situation. He talks about his wife's sisters boyfriend that he dislikes rather than about something he cares about. He puts down where he lives and worried about sick kids.
But I think the comment about the stolen stuff was really telling. It showed that he remembered but moved on. He could have easily made the comment flirty but the way he says it is a pretty clear no to Rory. Unlike with Jess where we still see him longing and in her control but denying it to other people. Dean's life is not all butterflies and rainbows but at least he understands and accepts his position.
This gels really well with the overall theme of privilege in the revival. Rory is bad at her relationships. She treats the men in her life as objects. But because she is lucky enough to be born with beauty(they really make a point to contrast this with Paris and Lane) she still has guys chasing her. Dean is not shown to have found a perfect life. This would undermine the overall theme of the power of privilege. But he is the only one of the 3 guys to make the right choice with Rory. He wins the team (dean vs jesss vs logan) battle but only in the moral sense. The revival is about realism. In a normal TV universe he either gets Rory or Rory is seen as bad and he gets a different better girl. But in the revival all he gets is the moral victory.
Though I really hated the revival, this scene was great since it shows the contrast between someone who's moved on and matured ( Dean) and somebody who still lives in the past. You can feel Rory's regret in her eyes and how she speaks to Dean.
true, the part where she says "i wish i would have met you when i was more mature" seems like she really truly wanted to be him. Also that part with the corn starch feels like she hasn't let go of her feelings for her when she first met him...While the part with Rory and Jess was good. You can definitely tell that it was only really Jess that wanted to rekindle their relationship, but the way she talked to Dean seems way more intimate even if it was just a couple of minuets of screen time. I honestly wanted the revival to Dean still being single and he still driving the car that he gave to Rory while his on his way to the shop where they first met. And slowly you see Rory sneak and pretend like she wanted to buy something (same as the first time they had their first kiss). It goes to a shot where she gets the corn starch and his holding 2 drinks and they lock eyes and smile (i haven't forgotten about you smile). Then cuts to a couple years later where she visits stars hallow and see's her mom in the coffee shop with Luke, goes inside and has a chat with the last words being "Rory: Mom. Lorelei: yeah? Rory: im pregnant"

the way she talks seems like she has feeling for him still, that it never really went away even after all those years. The fact that she still remembers all the hand gestures really well is a sign that from time to time she would reminisce about their time together. I feel sad that they wrapped up their story in a place everyone knew was their first kissing scene, it kinda shows that the writer's were truly leading on to them ending up together in the end but again Amy just had to ruin it.

It’s so hurtful, sometimes this does not make any difference anymore, you start just feel worse, exactly as dean shows in the end of the scene with the phrase "pay this time” meaning “never do the same with anymore else or nobody should pass for it”. Because I know, I pass for some like this before. You just remember all the pain and this not comfort, because time never comes back neither the scars you receive.
I never liked Dean but somehow I really love how he behaves in this scene. Rory still lives in the past but he seems so content and happy and still is polite although she obviously has some issues. But he has moved on. He is so over Rory and I think he deserves that.

It's sad that a lot of fans don't like Dean. I think people forget that he was also a teenager figuring out life and relationships. People really expected a lot from him, but his insecurities made him so human and realistic. Also, Rory dragging him along when she clearly was interested in Jess didn't help the matter. He really loved Rory. I'm so glad they brought him back to show that he is a really good person who always wanted the best for Rory. Obviously now that he's older there is more maturity but his heart is still so kind, which you can see in his conversation in this scene. This is why there is a part of me that will always be Team Dean.
I freaking love Dean! He is my favorite. I feel at this point she don’t deserve him. When she started liking Jess, I felt betrayed. I couldn’t even watch the show 😂. I loved Logan though. But Dean will always be my day 1. I appreciate that the writers don’t be tearing down Dean’s character to make Rory look better. They could’ve easily went that route. At his core he was a good guy. Flawed like us all but really a good guy. Never underestimate the power of an individual making you feel safe 🥰.

I'll guess it's a monster that hangs around, feeding peoples happiness and making them make terrible decisions. Ill bet it kills a kid or two here and there as well. I think its been in stars hollow for a while as it grew up and imprinted on people that lived in the area. But, it hadn't reached maturity and the height of its powers yet until around the time of the revival. "Dean" initially showed up and hung around for that reason, trying to figure out where this creature was. The creature however was young and unskilled, and so its abilities are weak. Eventually he had to give up and move out. But lo and behold, it came to maturity and everyone is making a terrible series of choices. Rory not breaking up with Paul and staying around with Logan, Lorelei not marrying Luke or having kids with him, Lane staying in stars hollow and living her mother's life, Jess not just asking Rory out when he sees her at the newspaper place. But I think "Dean" got him in the end, and "Taylor" mysteriously disappeared. Think it's coincidence that "Dean" worked for him for so many years? We didn't know WHEN Taylor showed up, but I'm sure the creature has morphing and perception filter abilities. And people knew in some way anyway, considering how irksome the guy made everyone feel all the time. It's only when its dead that the townspeople realised they'd only known Taylor from about a year before "Dean" showed up as a teenager.

God, this made me cry. They'll always be friends. Her voice kinda breaks when she talks about the corn startch and just for a minute, she's transported back to that day, to simpler times. To her first ever boyfriend, the first guy whom she loved and who loved her. Built her a car, took her to her school dance, protected her. But Rory deep down knows that it could never have been but she's happy that he's happy, that he got his dream, the wife, the kids, a loving family and she thinks to herself, he must be a great dad, a good husband. She'll always love him and he'll always want the best for her. It's a wholesome friendship. I love that.
It is so hurtful... meeting people from our past. A glimpse of a life we could have had if it wasn't for our decisions, our mistakes, our faults. Some things in life we can never go back to and it's a damn shame.
As someone who visits my hometown and the city I went to university in regularly, it is an everpresent ache to see it all through different eyes.

Ironic how both Jess and Dean matured, pulled their lives together and are content in adulthood whilst Rory does not have a handle on her life at all. Especially considering Rory was considered out of both boys league when she dated them. I grew up with GG and Rory was such a role model, until season four when her character became selfish and self-absorbed. I don't like her at all anymore and really really hope she does not end up with Jess if the show ever comes back. He can do better. The girl had a loving and supportive family and so many opportunities, often handed to her on a silver platter and she squandered it.
Completely agree. I was watching the reload and looking at Rory with disbelief. This girl is a hot mess. She went to Yale for calling out loud. I thought she would have done better than Paris. Paris, who is even a hot mess, is doing better than her. I watched this scene cringing because she not even hiding that she's a hot mess and admitting she made a mistake.
I consider that the character of Rory never really liked reality. As a teenager she spent her time reading or watching movies. If Rory did not succeed like the other characters it is because Rory cannot find his place in this hard and unforgiving world that is modern society. If she tries to write, it is because it is the very essence of her soul: to escape into another reality, to use words to better live life. And although she got the money from her grandparents, her relationship with money was complicated (she experienced precariousness, modest life then the life of the privileged). Rory had a heart and a great sensitivity. I can well imagine the fact that she stopped studying at her bachelor's degree and the fact that she failed to launch her career.
Jess was an asshole so I disagree. Rory and Jess deserve each other.

Yes! Especially when they talk a out Clara, it was weird what Rory said about being her first love and that she would get over him (I guess that’s what she was going to say when she stopped herself), but clearly Rory hasn’t gotten over Dean.
She’s gotten over him but does one ever truly forget their first love? Even if it was puppy love. That’s the case here. She knows Dean isn’t exactly ‘The One’ for her but she will appreciate their time spent together.

I am rewatching the show and i will proudly say that i am happy dean didn't end up with rory. He was such a great guy. He gave everything he had to rory and he respected rory's friends and family. He did everything he could to make her happy and rory treated him badly for so long. I am so happy that he is happy now and has left stars hollow. I hate that place.

What ppl don't get is that the writers HAD to make him a bit controlling and jelous at the end in order to end their relationship. The truth is Dean when he was in his character was absolutely perfect and their relationship was too good to be broken off so the writers had to make Dean go a bit out of character in order to make room for Jess besides he had all the rights to be angry at Rory i think she didn't treat him the way he treated her and even she admits and regrets that! Jess or Logan could never treat Rory with the love, care, and respect Dean treated her. It's no coincidence that Dean was her first bf the writers did it on purpose to portray the nostalgia in a first love. The writers had to find some way to break them of so they had no option but to change the characters a bit and that i think seemed way out of the blue. They would've made a perfect couple but i'm glad Dean is still happy and back to his normal self 💗

Watching this scene while still rewatching season 1 was absolutely gut wrenching because the nostalgia hits in this weird way and reminds me of the passage of time and that the characters I loved so much grew up and it can never go back... they are now strangers to each other. it hurts my heart and I can’t articulate exactly why.
As much I couldn’t fall in love with the whole revival, I definitely fell in love with this scene in particular! It paid a lot of respect to their past and personalities.
This is Dean’s best scene in both shows which makes sense since he has matured a whole lot, and you can tell he’s truly happy

And I mean cheating on your wife is bad enough, but he never loved Lindsay. Never. He was an angel to Rory; to other people, not so much. He seems to have nice guy syndrome sometimes... I think most people like his character so much bc they love Jared Padalecki and his role in SN (which is perfectly fine. Dean isn't hat amazing in GG though)
Exactly. Rory was terrible to Dean. The writers purposely made her character that way to keep fans invested for the next episode but all it did was tarnish the relationship that she couldve had with Dean in the longrun. She verbally and emotionally took advantage of Dean, chewed him up and spat him out for Jess.
I am glad that Dean found happiness in his life. He and Rory could have been a great couple, but everything went to hell when she fell in love with Jess. I'll always be #TeamDean

Teenage Dean Forrester was my first tv crush as a kid. He was the whole reason I ever watched this show. So happy Jared Padalecki literally became one of the best actors to come out of this show. Hard to believe that almost 20 years later and I still fangirl over him. Actually, not that hard to believe...hes amazing!

He was always so freaking selfish, you know? I get that he grew up in a cold household, but so did Lorelai, and she was never entitled like him. Argumentative and a bit childish at times (okay a lot of the time), but always compassionate to people who had a shitty time. Logan gets accused of being entitled and he argued like the spoiled rich kid he was. He raises hell with the life and death brigade, not giving a shit about what happens to the people around him. Confronted by Jess coming to see Rory and he devolves into a possessive douche bag. He let Rory quit Yale. He hates his dad for saying the things he did about Rory that got her to quitting Yale, but he never refutes them. It takes Jess to ensure she gets back. He asked her to marry him and move to wherever with him, and he just completely overlooks her ambition, saying oh yeah, there are newspapers out there. You'll be good following me and my career right? cos it IS a lot more important than yours. He gets defensive when she says no and breaks it off then. He then ignores the feelings of his fiance and dabbles with Rory continuously, getting her pregnant! like she isnt having a hard enough time as is. (yes, she is also responsible here, but that's beside the point). He wont give a shit about his kid ill bet. He will set up a funds account under the table to keep the kid out of his life and Rory quiet. A 50s era husband hidden behind a larrikin exterior without the excuse that they did, it's just the times, everyone's sexist! No Logan. Not anymore they aren't.
It physically hurt me that Rory was a Headass during the decline in their relationship, I mean the guy built her a damn car.

I always love Dean. He was sweet and gentlemanly, understanding and always went with the flow. He was a good first boyfriend, and I honestly think she was happier with Dean than with Jess. But Rory did not appreciate him enough. I'm glad that he now has someone he loves and is happy. But I do think that now Jess has grown up, he could be good for Rory.

I felt the opposite. They were each others first loves. He asked her questions. They both felt sentimental that’s all it was. And he responded “pay for it this time,” which lets her (and is) know that he understands the significance of the corn starch.
I don’t think he didn’t want to talk to her but I think it’s a LITTLE awkward to tell your first love about your wife and kids when you both know you once imagined that would be each other. Even though you’re happy now, it’s still awkward. Its awkward BECAUSE their is still a part of you that loves that person/remembers that love… you’re trying to share your life but you feel the little bits of hurt you are causing to both.. of course you are happy for that person and want the best for them… doesn’t mean it doesn’t pinch a bit.

This is the perfect redemption arc for their romance. It wasn't meant to be but they ended up on good terms, imo this is the best ending they could have picked for her and Dean's relationship.

i really loved dean on this one - he has matured and obvi learnt from his past mistakes and experiences. and i'm so soft for rory being grateful for dean. yeah this is the closure that rory and especially dean deserves.

But I really do love him in this scene and the scene itself, it's too sweet and one of the only moments in the revival that made me feel like I was actually watching the series again :)

Awww. I love these two together. I haven’t watch the final episode but this scene took me back in time when I was young and was obsessed with Gilmore Girls. This was a really nice closure for me 😅 These two actors had a really amazing chemistry. I hope we see them together in a different tv series.

Jess was Surly to Bed, Surly to Rise. He kept trying to isolate Rory, never really blended with her. He kept trying to bend her in his path.
Dean got Rory and Lorelei. He gave the perfect summary of both to Max: their schticks, references, patterns and habits. He didn't try to isolate or bend her. She, however, didn't really make room for him in her life.
Yes! Thank you. I always say, Dean worked, went to school, played sports, and always made time for Rory. Jess, by his own admission, said he didn’t have to try anymore because he already “had her.” Plus, he almost forced her into sex; something that Team Jess ignore or excuse. Also, Rory admitted to Lorelai that Jess treated her like dirt, which no one really talks about.
I am so happy for Dean found a better life and he is way happy now when not with Rory.

This scene broke my heart, It was so bitter sweet. I'm sure there are many of us out there that experienced our very first love not be the person we ended up with...Glad that Dean moved on and found his happiness. I think Dean was too good for her. Rory, like her mom is not good in relationships. however, I understand they were both so young and the timing was not good. I loved Dean, he was my favorite, Jess second and Logan, I couldn't stand him!!!
This was the only scene I cared about with the revival. As a side note, enough with the Supernatural comments, WE KNOW. Don't get me wrong I love both shows but after hearing/reading the same comments about "Sam being Dean and Dean being Sam" for the last 13 years on every "Dean on Gilmore Girls" videos is getting very annoying. Its not a big deal or that mind blowing and at some point enough is enough, especially after 13 years of it.

Dean was a pretty good boyfriend who tried to treat Rory right but still had room to grow... before Jess came along and drove a wedge between them. Then it was Rory who really hurt Dean. I'm glad this scene exists, just to show that there WERE good times between them before they hurt each other and went their separate ways. In the end, it seems like they wanted different things. I think she and Logan are more suited for each other as adults.
This makes me so sad I wish to go back and watch old episodes when they were younger, everything was much more happier.
Although I was not just sad but genuinely upset by the turn Rory's career took, with her giving up even trying to fullfill her journalistic ambitions and settling for writing a book that was not even her own original idea, that part got me. The words she came up with to describe Dean right on the spot were truly beautiful and the flow of her speach so perfect and if i thought that this was what she truly wanted to do I'd totally be rooting for her.
