I grew up knowing of this game but never playing it, but playing the remake and hearing this theme for the first time gave me CHILLS I froze at the start before saying "They made a KoF song....IN A MARIO GAME!??!!?"
In my first match with him, he got frozen on the first turn amd then I immediately proceeded to basically thrash him without getting damaged bc he died before the freeze effect was done. Poor guy.
Small spoiler: They really missed an opportunity to actually buff him on the second climb through the Glitz Pit ranks. For all that talk about secret training and asking for a rematch with his "new and improved, reborn" self, it really doesn't make much sense that he just shows up with the exact same stats.
He’s just THAT confident. It makes sense if you’re into wrestling, he’s playing the heel persona, cheating to get to the top and having a hugely inflated ego.
When my nieces were playing this back in the 00s and I was doing voiceovers for it, that is exactly what I did for Rawk Hawk. I basically made him a combination of Randy Savage and an 80s rock star.
This chapter has made me realized how full of boss fights this chapter is. If you’re including the mini bosses, there’s 4 total fights in this chapter (Iron Adonis Bros). 3 without mini bosses. (Bowser, Rawk Hawk, Macho Grubba). Prince Mush is optional but is considered a boss fight too.
Yes, that’s a lot, but if you compare this Chapter to Chapter 8, it doesn’t have nearly as many bosses. Chapter 8 has 5 boss fight and 8 bosses if you count them individually, with, in this order, Doopliss, Marilyn, and Beldam, Gloomtail, Grodus, Bowser and Kammy, and, finally the Shadow Queen.
Coming from someone that adores wrestling, this might be my favorite theme of the bunch for the remaster. This track FEELS like it belongs to a Heel wrestler like Rawk. (For those that aren’t aware, heroes/villains in wrestling are often called Faces/Heels. In lucha it’s Rudos/Technicos ((Forgive me if that’s incorrect it’s been a hard decade since I’ve watched lucha)) ) And when you think about it, Rawk is a perfect heel stereotype. He flagrantly disregards rules, sabotages other competitors, is generally arrogant and full of himself… and his theme perfectly fits that.
It’s because the music isn’t as hard as it should be I can agree that this game is good because I played the original and I still have it to this day but they tone down all the music to wear it sounds more like a downgrade version of it it would’ve been way better for this game if they made it even wave hard rocking in better sounding like they’ve done with the other games
So all Nintendo needs to do is course correct in their followup and give us Rawk Hawk as a partner. Would like to see how far the guy can develop as a fellow adventurer.

Ironically I feel like this remade song is made less intense than the original, in a weird way. In the original game, this song was the only one that was all hard rock. But in the remake, almost all the boss fights tracks have thrashing rock guitars now. Even the Chapter 3 regular battles sound just like this. This track doesn't stand out so much anymore. It's not a worse version, just a little less unique.
Maybe theres something wrong with my headphones. I can very clearly hear the original song's melody in this, but I couldnt hear it when i was fighting him. Which made me like this remix less. I felt the same way with Macho Grubba. I'm going to listen back to his theme now too

To be honest, I actually like that the main melody is a bit drowned out. Really subtle way to convey that the glamour of the ring isn’t all to the Glitz Pit.
I'm no music theory major but the original sounded more cohesive with less unnecessary instruments added. The remake did add heavy metal which is great but the overall sound seems jumbled.
all I hear is drums, guitar, and two synths. maybe it being loud makes it hard to notice at first, but in reality this isn't overdoing it with instruments
