One of the complaints with the KRX, espescially for desert riders, is cab heat. Where we ride in southern Utah, the temp can get over 110 degrees so we do whatever we can to reduce the cab heat in our rigs. In this video, Garrett dives into the KRX adding heat shielding to the panels and wrapping the radiator tubing in heat shielding.

Nice work as always Garrett! Looking forward to seeing how much of a difference there is. Also anxious to see the coms set up. 👍👍😎
Hopefully it was worth it and yes coms will be done soon. 👍
Nice job 👍
Looks like you doing a great job...hope it cools it down for you.
Hopefully 🤞
Thanks for all of your videos and feedback on the KRX. I wanted to share what I have done.
1) wrapped waterlines with fiberglass, then foil tape.
2) Foil insulation/ sound dampening entire tunnel
3) Leather shifter boot to keep heat from coming up. Also a boot on e-brake.
4) Fresh air vent from front of car with brake duct hose
5) Bilge blower 3” mounted under rear cup holder. Cut back firewall with 3” tube to blower. Manual switch down on tunnel for trial.
6) Fresh air vents in front firewall just below glove box / above pedals.
7) Under seat rubbers from cab seal kit. FYI, the seat rubbers are the only thing worth a damn in the cab seal kit. Poor door seals from Kawasaki.
Results: It’s a huge improvement, but I removed my glass windshield for an afternoon and all problems went away. However, no windshield sucks! So, my stock glass is up for sale and I will be getting one of yours soon.
Side note: Have you thought about bug screens on your flip out vents and maybe a rear vent in you back window to help air flow?
I will also add close-able vents to the tunnel down by our feet and reverse the blower in addition to close the fresh air vents for cooler rides. I use vintage air vents, they close completely and are easy to install. I welcome any questions. Thanks again
Sounds like you have done tons. I’m going to add a couple of vents in my rear window. Hopefully that will help the air flow through and break up that tornado dust. The vents in the front windshield make all the difference as well. 👍 -Garrett
Tim, is there somewhere that you have posted pictures of all of this work by chance?
@@sakostwwy1903 I’m sorry I didn’t take any pics. I’m now also convinced the constant heat soaking of the firewall is where the real problem lies. Looking at the CanAms, they vent their hood area to help more air be released. Something that should be tried next. Mine is for sale if someone is looking. $17k
Garrett I have a question off topic about the negative camber on these KRX's, My passenger wheel assy leans in way more then my drivers side. The way that I measured it I used a square slid it against the bottom of the tire and used a measuring tape and measured from outside of square to the top of the bead lock. Then I also tried using a level and measured it the same way I did with the square and got same results drivers side wheel assy was 1 1/4 inward and the passenger side wheel assy is 2 3/16 inward which to me is way to much. And how can it be a different measurement from one side to the other. I didnt measure it to the top of the tire because I felt that I would get a more accurate reading going to the top of the bead lock. Any info would be great!!! Thanks
I completely gutted my krx, wrapped and insulated the coolant lines from the radiator, pulled the gas tank and all the way back to to motor. Install heat shield on entire tunnel, back firewall, under gas tank and seats. Also sealed off front firewall. The results were better, but would not do it again for the payback. Just flat out hot. Should have just relocated radiator to the rear. Would have been way easier and had 0 heat. Done.
Sounds like a big pain, I choose just the front area which is way easier, because I didn’t feel anything under the seat and back would be worth it. I’ll have my final thoughts next week on all of it. 👍-Garrett
idk maybe its me or because i have a late model 2020 with the new knuckles maybe they did something different but i don't notice too much heat. its a little warm near your calf but no heat coming from the shifter. i also have a maverick sport and that thing is way hotter in the console area then the krx. was 105 to 110 here and no issues last weekend.
That’s why I stopped at the shifter because I feel that’s all that needs to be done. How many miles have you ridden in one day?
@@DerangedOffRoad i rode 80 miles last Sunday it was 105 here no issues other them front cup holder heat the drinks. I just use the rear cup holders. But thats all sxs. My maverick sport is way hotter coming from shifter , and my rzr s1000 was unbelievably hotter. I may insulate front cup holders idk.
@@adventureoutdoor45 weird i have none of that.. maybe i have an anomaly lol
So I’m working on something because the air comes up from all the big holes below and I plan on covering those. I feel when you do no more heat will blow up at you. -Garrett
Mine was built in feb and i have no problems with heat and I to live in southeast az. Like he said it does get warm near my calf but thats it.
Has anyone tried drilling holes with hole saw in skid plate under it to let heat escape? I may look into it to see if can do it. Seems gotta have a way to get it out
That’s possible 👍
Has anybody thought about installing a 12v boat bilge fan to suck the heat out from the center console area or blow cool air into the center console area you can mount the fan where it fits and use ducting hose. You could probably also try a Parker Pumper that blows filters air for a race helmet
Yes I have actually and have just not put anytime into it. I think it’s a great idea for sure. 👍 -Garrett
I did. Helped, but real problem is all the heat the firewall collects. As posted on here by someone else, I should have just relocated the radiator to rear.
I get a lot of heat too. My water bottles get hot. Why not use the foam or rubber pipe insulation you can get from Home Depot?
You can use that as well, but I wanted to try the exhaust wrap knowing it had a much higher temperature rating to see if it worked better. -Garrett
Good morning watching your video I thought you said you installed a gear shifter boot to help with the heat. If so what boot and where did you get it. I have the 2021 model, and during the cold I can feel good heat in that area. I just know I will roast during the heat of the summer!🥵
This is what we installed. derangedoffroad.com/products/krx-1000-complete-billet-gated-shift-system-6-pieces
Thank you some how I must have missed that install video. My bad!
How long does it take to gut it to get to the rad tubes
Honestly everything is quicker if you’re not filming. The wrap job itself could be done in 45 minutes or so. -Garrett
Dude looks like Collin Farrell at first glance😂. Did you guys think of doing the firewall behind the radiator too?
They say my hair is getting out of hand. No I didn’t consider it, but it is a good idea. -Garrett
UTV Takeover announced down your way for Oct!
Yeah buddy! We’ll be there! -Joe
If borders open hopefully us too. Hard not to want to go there after all your guys footage!
We will be there for sure 👍-Garrett
Why did you spray the water?
The instructions says to soak in water or get it wet. So I choose just use a spray bottle. I believe it helps keep the fiberglass fibers down better when working with it from getting into your hands and stuff. I didn’t really see a purpose otherwise.
When I wrap exhaust headers I soak the wrap in a bucket of water when you're done fired up that helps set the rap
Do you think that you would get the same effect on the radiator lines compared to the exhaust?
Did u put an alternator on?
No haven’t needed it.
@@DerangedOffRoad hey this jock from mississipp they are putting a motor in for me they dont know why it blew only 15 hrs i send pictures when i get it back or avideo
there is a video on jockpc
I heard someone else with a issues like that as well. I haven’t heard much though about this. -Garrett
I raped my Radiator lines like you did and i put that Styrofoam around them also and it brought the heat down big. We rode yesterday and we rode very hard and my temperature never got over 88F but stayed mostly around 80F and 82F i was amazed how cool it ran ....And i put noise proof down on back seat panels and it really helped on the nose in the trails and it even helped on hwy speed also not as loud so it was worth ever bit of that hard work ...very happy
Whats the verdict? Worth it or naw
Would I do it again, yes but only if I had everything ripped apart already. It does feel better but still hot. 👍
Lol are you the. (You betcha) guy ?
