The SECRET Boat Graveyard Where Boats Go To DIE! Ep. 156.
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 чер 2021
- We leave our mooring at Devil's Garden and continue down the River Weaver to what remains of Sutton Locks, the secret boat graveyard where boats go to die. Colin uncovers dozens of abandoned narrowboats, Weaver Barges, a working boat called Gowanburn, and a 250 year-old Mersey Flat called Daresbury. We continue on to Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge near Frodsham and gain access to the control room to watch the 520 ton bridge being swung using the original gear to allow Silver Fox through.

A "bottom-opening dredger hopper" - never has there been a craft more crying out for a Foxes inuendo!
Too easy 🤣
Every time I’m in awe of what a gift you have for filming these vlogs. Music choices, humor, public speaking, timing, knowledge, choice of topics, etc. wonder if people realize how much work and time goes in to filming just these 25 minutes?
Loved the bit on the sunken barges! Very cool!💟💟💟💟💟💟💟💟
Thanks so much, Christine! 💜
Maybe this sounds funny but that is probably the best vlog you have done, the mixture of history, the lovely new camera angles and you two just being you, wow, keep us amused and educated! Guy
Aww, cheers Guy! x
You never disappointed. You guys are real pros.
Thank you, Bill!
Real Pros " you can't say that" 😆😆😆
You have once again released a masterpiece, your research into the subjects you feature makes your videos astonishing,
Your photo is used superb and you're editing is simply out of this world, Thanks to both of you for bringing happiness to the world.
Wow, thank you!
Colin...Absolutely brilliant, I'm stood up applauding, can you see me. your camera footage is fantastic, bloody loved it. Shaun don't ever stop looking right into the camera & saying something funny. well done boy's see you next week.
Wow! Thanks so much, George!
This is not a UA-cam video - it is proper Television. Well done Colin. You guys are producing amazing stories, week after week. Thank you.
Wow! Thanks so much, Keith!
As much as I would like to see the boys go on to be more successful, I would hate the TV documentary people to get hold of them, unless Colin has complete editorial control, those TV guys screw things up. And Colin and his tireless research presents a great program
Eveytime you show a breathtakingly beautiful picture of the English countryside and I think it’s not possible to find anything that can possibly compare, you show yet another stunning bucolic setting that manages to outshine the others. Is it possible that every corner of England holds its own special beauty?
I believe it is!
That was the best!!! You lads are one of the highlights of my week!!! Thanks so much, I’ve had the week from hell, mum to hospice, mother in law having another stroke, work being a pain. This lovely 17 minutes and 17 seconds helped my mind drift away from dark thoughts to positive thoughts of by gone boats, feisty calves, and massive ships, for that I owe you two a good few pints! Thanks again for the obvious amount of hard work you put into these vlogs, I appreciate every second!!!
So sorry you've had so much going on 💜
@@FoxesAfloat we all have, this is why the little oasis of loveliness that are you and shauns vlogs help make life a little sweeter, keep it up you legends 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Could you feel the spirits of the boats and boatmen at Sutton Locks, I can certainly imagine you would.
I reckon you guys get more well researched and interesting information into one blog than most others in multiple vlogs. Clearly a lot of effort goes into them, they are really enjoyable thank you.
Thanks for noticing, Andy 👍🏻💜
This is by far my favourite episode (so far!) - the filming, cinematography, editing, narration are simply beautifully done. The portion about the old sunken boats was incredibly moving.
Thank you!
Thank you for explaining the history of the canals and their impacts on British life at the time in England, totally worth your efforts! Hugs for the two of you,
Thank you, Joe. Happy to do that x
How the hell are you managing to research all this and make it into a beautifully framed video? Nice!
Could not agree more
Thanks so much, Benny 💜
Gosh Colin I found that quite emotional. I’m 72 and so your historical facts on the sunken boats is my lifetime! I’m amazed at your ability to find all these facts, the boat names just finished me and I had to get the Kleenex out 😕! As is repeatedly said by everyone , the filming, editing, commentary and quality of your vlogs are just terrific, thank you so much, you have both kept me company all through the past year. 🌟🌟Joan( next weeks vlog looks amazing 😃)
Thank you sooooooo much! x
You 2 could be in your 90s and still be 2 kids loving life loving each other and a right proper laugh at the world
That's the plan 😉
Bittersweet seeing the resting place of the old boats. You both bring so much
Thanks so much, Mary!
This was SO excellent as usual. Perfect timing, filming, mix of humour and info, modern history excavation, old technology that STILL does it's job, and so,so much more. You two are an education in every department: socially, geographically, historically, and on relationship issues in hard times. I'm not even sure you know how therapeutic your Vlogs and Podcasts are, but keep on doing what you're doing! :-)
Thank you so much! No plans on stopping, yet 🤣
Hi you 2
Oh what a sad sight seeing all those boats buried in the water
Otis seems to be having fun
I was fascinated by the swing bridge
What a great sight to see x
Have a great weekend
Stay safe
Love Kim x x
Thanks so much, Kim. You too! x
Since COVID Shaun has really opened up and is not so shy, it’s so great to see. Good always comes from bad huh? Great videos guys!
💜
And the BAFTA for “best original documentary” goes to ..............
A masterclass edition. 👏👏👌👍😀
Aww, thanks so much!
Lovely weather, fun to watch Otis stare down the cows, to see the drone footage of the abandoned boats, and the swing bridge swinging.
Glad you enjoyed it
I love it in the outtakes . . . with every clip the storm clouds behind them keep getting closer and closer and closer.
they really did! 🤣
A sad graveyard of narrow boats but it’s a great base for new nature and new beginnings. I can’t get enough of the drone footage. 💜💜💜
Thanks Jean!
Colin, you are a natural historian, I just love all the information that you find and post ... thank you for another gem of a post.
Ah, Marian. To see you lovely comment each week makes it worth it 😉
I absolutely love this vlog. Colon, you are a natural born storyteller, and I adore spending time with the both of you every week.
Thanks so much
Im running out of words to praise your vlogs, i liked the way you narrated the "boat grave yard" so sympathetically and the swing bridge was amazing. Thankyou guys 👍
Glad you liked it 👍🏻
So sad to see all the dead boats. How clever of you to find out so much about them. I love hearing all your stories about times gone by. Another, as usual, excellent vlog! 😘
Thank you! x
The Manchester Ship Canal, MSC, brings back fond memories of my ex father in-law, who was a captain for Manchester Liners, he was once presented with a Waterford Crystal bowl, for taking his ship all the way from Liverpool to Manchester without tugs, which apparently is a great achievement
Wow!
Hi Colin & Shaun, always nice to see your smiling faces! Wonderful drone footage of the sunken boats & hearing the history. Beautiful swing bridge, really interesting to see it in action. Thank you for all the hard work on bringing us, week after week, interesting history and wonderful footage, really appreciate it! Have a wonderful weekend...please give beautiful Otis a cuddle for me. 💖 Take really good care of yourselves, stay safe! Much love Kathy x 💕 (Ontario, Canada)
Thanks so much, Kathy!
We watch you guys instead of Meet the Press on Sundays. Much more inspirational.😄
Aww, thank you! x
You guys have the most interesting videos. I am learning so much about the UK history. Thank you ! Stay safe !
Thanks, you too, Rene!
Once again you've gone above and beyond what is available on mainstream TV Colin with your excellent Vlogs - full of interest and entertainment. Well done - you keep raising the bar, I feel sorry for other vloggers (myself included)!!!!! :) Rob
We all do different stuff. Just be passionate about what you do 👍🏻
I say it every week, you are very consistent at turning out high quality, informative content. Many thanks. Regards AJ
Thank you so much, again!
Excellent videography this time ... loved the old dead boats
Thanks 👍🏻
Colin, your history and story dialogue is really fun and easy listening. I appreciate your efforts in sharing your journeys on the cut! thanks for your info, you humor, lighthearted conversation....
Many thanks!
THE OUTAKES ARE AWSOME makes me laugh every time!!
Aww, cheers!
You should be given your own TV series, stunningly filmed, well researched and fun to watch
Thanks, Alan!
I've got a complaint. Colin, what you're producing is not bloomin c**p!!! Don't do yourself down... you're too good, both of you, to dismiss yourselves as that! Lovely video - I loved the graveyard, as so many others have too! thank you! :) xx
Much appreciated!
The grave yard is very sad and spooky. I could not walk through, wellies or not. So when the big guys sailed past did you yell.....shiiippps!!! I heard it is F and C day today....good day for that tasty treat along with some mushies...Love and hugs.
I could eat fish and chips every day 👍🏻
Your vlogs just get better and better all the time. I loved the music in this one. The boat graveyard was fascinating and made me sad. And the camera work for the swing bridge opening and closing was so amazing!! And some great Otis shots. Colin, I believe you are a creative genius.Your photography, music, content and editing are all remarkable. I wish I had your genius to launch my own UA-cam channel. I still have so much to learn. Love you guys.
Thanks so much!
The abandoned boats were very sad, bit beautiful pictures Colin. The swing bridge was really cool - looking forward to next week already!
Thanks 👍
The boat graveyard footage via your drone was amazing. It gave us perspective on how large the area is and the boat skeletons left behind... ❤🇦🇺
Thanks, Lorraine!
What wonderful scenery and historical information. Every Friday is like a little vacation with you both, thank you. We enjoy your laughs and outtakes. Mark from Michigan.
Glad you enjoyed it
Shaun and Colin don't ever change you do make me smile each week and at times l have a good laugh makes my week take care see you next week hug for otis xxxxxxxxxx
Aww, thank you, Carol!
I absolutely love the history of the canal system and yes, camera work is wonderful. Otis is looking very grown up and gorgeous. I think that man on the kayak was being a bit cheeky, look guys how fast I can paddle!
He was definitely racing us 🤣
I started watching your vlogs a few weeks ago from the beginning and I've finally caught up with you. I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed them. I've been sort of isolating after (successful) radiotherapy and it's been great watching them. Lots of really interesting information, lots of laughs, really open discussion of mental health issues (I suffer from depression and talking DOES help) and a bit of sadness too of course. I feel like I know the 3 of you - I wish I did. Keep it up - it's brilliant ❤
Thanks so much, John!
Hiya Shaun & Colin I seen well Colin yesterday in my home city ☺️😉 which I won’t tell cos I know you like your privacy & I asked for a photo which I got of Colin & Otis which was a lovely photograph on your boat in the dock. Well anyways I was the fella in the hi viz orange jacket who said that I watched all your vlogs which I love. Hope both of you enjoy your time in the best city ever & it was great seeing the boat Tell shaun I said hi & keep up the great work 👍👍👍
Hehe! Nice one 👍🏻
Wow. That boat graveyard was interesting. And erie. You chaps make Fridays extra special!
Aww, thank you!
I just love your videos. Beautifully shot and edited. I watch you every Friday at lunch. Thank you from Michigan. Can't wait for next week!
Thanks so much, Russell!
I was in awe watching the size of this giant that turn quietly and smoothly to one side to allow Silver Fox to glide through, that swing bridge how it worked was amazing, thank you so much Colin for all the homework you do, to bring us all this wonderful information.
much love to you and Shaun.
Aww, thank you so much, Lynda!
Safe to say there aren't many "journeys on the beaver" on Silver Fox!😂 Fun and informative as usual!
You got that right!
It might be madness but it’s my kind of Friday night madness, thanks guys loved it.
Cheers!
Awww you guys ! Honestly so glad I stumbled across your Chanel ! Can’t wait for your next one. Can we have it tomorrow ? Please ? Pretty please 😁😁😁😁 x
Haha! Sorry! 🤣
Impressive swing Bridge,, much more interesting than the swing Bridge at Whitby!! I'm sat watching this vlog with a can of Stella Artois, on a warm muggy evening 🍺, loving the history as always Colin.
Glad you enjoyed it
Swinging Vlog (get it) history, scenery, banter, narrative, just brill, one of your best. Thank you.
Many thanks!
I live in Frodsham and have walked past those locks dozens of times yet didn't realise that it's a boat graveyard. Wonderful video!
Thanks so much, Mark!
Thank you both for giving us something to look forward to every Friday! No one does it like y'all do! Very entertaining and we love all the history.. Appreciate all your hard work! Sending lots of love! 🥰🥰
Aww, thanks so much, Angie!
We knew how to build things in them thar olden days didn't we?. Can't wait already for next weeks Vlog.
Seeing all those derelict and sunken boats were so sad and poignant.
Thanks, guys that were very enjoyable. All the best. Stephen 👍
Cheers, Stephen. Yeah, next week's is pretty special.
Hi Faffers. Well late this time. Hectic week and weekend. Yet another top notch Faffers Production.
Patience Shaun😂
Don't Change a thing guys. You are still the best👍
Thanks, Chris 👍
Another great video. Bet you never thought you would be so ' BIG DOWN UNDER' 🤣🤣🤣🤣 with all your Aussie and Kiwi fans. Greetings from New Zealand once again.
Oooooh Errrrr! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great show, special to me as I used to live in the area and travelled over the swing bridge regularly. I was hoping you would do something on the Daniel steam ship ….. so I’m glad you mentioned it at the end lol…. I thought you wouldn’t just pass it without doing a show on it …. Can’t wait until next week . ( used to live in Frodsham now in Florida . Thanks guys
Don't think you'll be disappointed next week xxx
You could have been a cinematographer, well, you are a cinematographer but you get the point I hope. Your eye for framing and understanding of balancing symmetry and A-symmetry in a scene is fantastic. Enviable to be sure. I'm in the US and love the days I get my morning coffee and a new video from you guys to start if off right.
Thank you so much! 👍🏻
Brilliant, as always. 🧡
Thanks, Sue!
Fantastic. I learned so much, was entertained and you made me laugh. The boat graveyard was sad. Just such a well made vlog. Thank you both. A Friday treat!
Thanks so much!
You are now making better TV than TV does!
Aww, thank you!
Hi Colin, Shaun and Otis, excellent video, quality pictures, drone footage and information. Always look forward to Fridays and you three. Thank you.
Cheers, Phillip.
Thank you for all your hard work. It is much appreciated. Thank you for letting me escape my world for a few moments. 😀
Always a pleasure!
❤️❤️❤️❤️Just awesome....one of your best vlogs yet and still chuckling about the toy called inios🤣🤣🤣
Thank you so much 😁
The boat graveyard was sad. The swing bridge was exciting. Otis was precious, as usual. Love all the history bits and the banter. Best regards, Gloria
Cheers, Gloria!
Liverpool ! On Aug. 7th, 1945 my Mum and I boarded the S.S. Drottningholm in Liverpool and sailed to America to meet up with my Dad. She never was able to return.
💜
I'm presuming your Mum met up with your Dad on at least one previous occasion? Just asking :-)
@@brawdygordii He was a Canadian soldier that arrived in England in the fall of 1940. They were married on Xmas day 1941.
Better and better and better every week guys. Thanks for all your hard work.
Much appreciated!
Finished a binge watch of all your previous vlogs earlier this week, now I can watch on Fridays at five (I live in Bavaria) like a normal human.....yes, I am subscribed.
Yay! Thank you! 👍🏻
Very interesting, as always.
Thanks so much for getting them to operate the bridge just for us!
😉
Absolutely outstanding scenery today including the cows. The water was so calm.
It is lovely here!
Loved the background info about the boat ‘graveyard’ - fascinating. And lots of fun and laughter too.... 😂 Thanks
Our pleasure!
I have decided that since you have recently been telling people who don't like your vlogs to hit the thumbs down button twice, when I find one I enjoy more than usual (like this week's one) I will hit the thumbs up button three times (for triple the enjoyment).
Sounds like an excellent idea, David 👍🏻
Your historical sleuthing never ceases to amaze me!
Hehe. Thanks!
We went over that bridge 2 weeks ago going to Frodsham. I said you were in the area to the hubby. Where just back from a sunny Wales.
Ah, we were moored right at the side of it then 🤣👍🏻
Always happy to get a bunch of little bits when watching your vlogs....a bit of beautiful scenery, a bit of history, and a bunch just enjoyment. Thanks.
Our pleasure, David!
Loving the drone shots over the boat grave yard. Really interesting to the out lines of these long forgotten narrow boats.
They are!
Thank you for being you guys. I am really struggling at the minute being really down and not wanting to do anything. But your vlogs really bring me some relief and are a highlight for my weeks. Stay as fabulous as you are xxx
Keep on keeping on, the world needs you - and you’re dead right, these boys are a wonderful highlight of the week!
Just wanted to send you warm wishes in hopes things turn around for you and get better. Have a great day and may your tomorrow be better yet!
Sorry you're struggling. Keep watching and talk if you need to! 💜
Fantastic videography and history - well done, Gentlemen!
Thanks so much!
Hi guys from Tennessee USA. What a beautiful area you two start your journey from in today's video. Interesting information of the close locks. I always feel sad when I see things from the past rotting away. Heritage being lost is sad. Thanks for sharing your fabulous journey. I find them so refreshing. You two have a fantastic weekend. Stay safe and I look forward to the next journey.
Thanks for watching!
Thank God for Friday, and the Silver Fox Duo, plus pup! Thanks for the time spent sharing.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That was just bloody brilliant. Your research into every topic; time spent organizing access to sites and the cinematography is top notch professional. Hate this think how much time you guys spend putting all this together. Love it if you went onto the Manchester Ship Canal!!!!
Aww, thanks for appreciating the work 👍🏻
Hi Colin and Shaun,I love watching your amazing videos, that are so very interesting, your canal side awesomeness history lessons are totally
Superb,⭐️👍🛥tony
Thanks so much as always, Tony. Great to see your comments each week 👍
Brilliant history of the British canal history! The canal tryst aught to pay you guys, that good looking Otis will settle for doggie treats and a romp with the huge (inn his eyes) gods (the cows) So beautiful to see the softer side of the British country side, even the boat graveyard. Cheers!
Glad you liked it, Sion x
Yet another great blog fellas. Particularly liked the ship graveyard. Thought you handled it with respect and sensitivity. Really liked the way the boats at the end of their working lives were described as being laid to rest rather than dumped, abandoned or scuttled. Mrs B is really excited about next vlog as she always remarks about the good looking boat she sees as we pass over the swing bridge lol. Keep up the great work fella and stay safe 👍
Much appreciated
Great history! Sad to see all the abandoned boats and the history they represent. I always enjoy the history you relate.
Thanks, Edwin!
Thanks Colin and Shaun that was fascinating.
Aww, thanks, Christine!
Thanks guys! I have watched your last 3 vlogs, and they are like an oasis in the madness my wife and I are living at the moment. We are like ships that pass in the night which is not good for our mental health. That said we are both healthy and I in particular look forward to your vlogs that remain the highlight of my week. Thanks again! Dominic xxx
Ah, I hope it gets better mate 👍🏻💜
My favourite time of a Friday watching your vlogs. Hope to see you’s tomorrow & get a photo with Colin & Shaun before you go on your travels 👍👍👍
Cheers Lee!
Brilliant vlog yet again but over so quickly! The contrast of the boat graveyard and the active swing bridge makes it so interesting. More please! 😄
Thanks, Janice! 👍🏻
Gorgeous videography, and as always love the history.
Amazing! Thanks, Andy!
This is good olde national broadcasting stuff, excellent visionary, music and dialogue 👌 👏 👍 xxx
Thanks so much!
Thank you two lovely guys. I'm in Texas but I love history. Even if it's about boats sunk in and old lock that I'll never see. It's very much appreciated fellas.
Edit- an old lock.
Always a pleasure, Brad 👍🏻
Great aerial footage for this vlog, such beautiful views. And the boat graveyard was fascinating. The photo posted earlier in the week was just a glimpse of the sunken boats. Take cover, RAIN!
Many thanks!
Another eclectic vlog - a bit of everything - cows, swing bridge, dead boats, gumboots, drone footage, Shaun's laughter and Colin's history lesson, and of course Otis - wonderful 17 minutes - thank you guys. Jocelyn in NZ.
Always a pleasure!
It’s Friday!! Hi, Colin and Shaun! Loved the history of the closed lock, with the boat graveyard. It felt a bit sad, but nature takes over in no time, doesn’t it? Otis is looking gorgeous - please give him a “good boy” from me. Enjoy seeing all the big boats!
Glad you enjoyed it. Will do! 🐾
😁 You guys always make me smile.... I just love the how the cows always want to know what’s going on... Swing bridge!!!! I found an old one on a walk couple weeks ago. Mechanism building amazing! It was a mainline railway bridge. Stunning engineering.... That boat graveyard was very sad 🥺 Thanks so much! 💕🌿
Always a pleasure!
