Hi guys. Thanks for this lesson. I have to make at least one of these hats, maybe more, for the kids in my community that dont have a warm hat this year. Ms Dee's Quick Tip: Find a mediun to large lazy Susan (turn table) and put a bowl for each ball on top of it. Put your yarn balls in the bowls. When you need to untanngle the yarn just turn the lazy susan to untangle. With a little bit of practice you can even put the floor and turn it as you go with your foot so you never get tangled to begin with. 💖💞💖 I hope your day is an amazing one.
WOW I learned so much! I love the way Arne passes on what he learned from his mother. What a wonderful way to honor her. She is now a part of my life too. Another great video! - Denise from Texas
❤ to knit with you. Finished my Norwegian mittens from our cruise in October plus knitting the Såve Teddy Bear for my new grand baby. Plus I’m trying to knit the new Christmas balls. Miss you guys so glad you are here for us.
Dear Arne and Carlos, one of the things I am most grateful for is how you always seem to teach us several things in one video - not only twine knitting and rolling balls 😁 but also smaller things like ways of decreasing stitches, holding the yarn etc. I just had a „wait, let’s try that decrease Arne used in that video I watched yesterday“ -moment while knitting a pair of toddler mittens with a fox face on them, and my usual way of decreasing just didn’t look nice in the face..... so, it’s just a small little thing, but it makes me so happy. Thank you very much!
Oh honey that’s a great idea my goodness I thought I knew everything about knitting and crocheting however that I like thank you so much the young in both colors 12:03
Just love you guys, love your knitting & your home. I don't know what it is, but every time I watch I feel like I'm in front of a cozy fire on a winter night, snuggled with my favorite blanket & a big cup if hot chocolate.😊
I would go with 'traditional wisdom' rather than 'old wives tales'. :o) This year, I've made about 60 hats. Almost all of them have been donated to a charity that works with refugees. My next hat will be this one, and I'll definitely be giving Arne's mother's method a try. It looks really useful for lots of different patterns where two colours are used equally.
I agree! An old wive`s tale has usually the connotation of a story that musn`t necessariliy be true but is more of a superstition, a fairy tale or such. Old folk wisdom or traditional wisdom handed down from generation to generation would be more appropriate :-D
Or just use the lovely term „elderly female domestic engineer“ like Dr Karl (Dr Karl Kruszelnicki) does in his podcasts. It may look ironic when written down, but I think refering to homemaking duties as a speciality is actually quite appropriate! 😊
I am working on the 2023 Advent Sock. I had to pull out after day two. My guage was too big. I wound the yarns like Arne shows his mom did with Twined Knitting. It works LIKE A CHARM. I am very happy I came across this video. I also went back to DPN needles and knit the toe and three clues in an evening. LOL, Jazz hands...I'm watching the Day 6 video now.
You are two of the most precious and delightful people I have ever encountered. I don't know what you are like in life, but in these you tubes you are a priceless, kind, helpful and fun team. I love this but would only do it on a small items because the twisting would drive me crazy and I don't have anyone to help me as Carlos is helping
Hi, I’m watching you both to cheer myself up. The weather is bad here and the dog and cat want their breakfast and I just want to sit with a cup of tea and watch you both. I am still working on my Arne and Carlos quilt, it is looking great. Thank you both.
Merci Arnes pour le truc des 2 balles ensembles. Très apprécié car je tricote beaucoup avec des couleurs. Merci à ta maman de t'avoir montré ce petit truc.
You guys, You are the best at explaining knitting, I've looked at so so many knitting videos, but even tho I know you are advanced knitters, you take the time to help us new beginner. I've dropped á lot of knitters as they just don't teach !
Always learning something new from you two. I've never seen yarn wound that way - great idea Arne's mother had. If it takes Arne that long to do twined knitting - yikes - would take me a whole lot longer, but I think it would be worth it to have such a warm and water-resistant hat. Really look forward to your Sunday videos. Thank you.
Just subscribed to you two thanks to the women in a knitting group I attended recently. I'm glad I did! You guys are talented, sweet, and funny and I think I'll binge-watch all your other videos! 😘
As always, I enjoy your videos. Your mother was a wise knitter, I’m sure she was a wonderful teacher. I hope there will be Christmas vlogs. Lol you two must laugh all day.
Hello lovely Arne and Carlos, as always you give us all a fantastic tutorial. I love you both dropping by each Sunday evening, you are both great company and so entertaining. I hope you have a fabulous week ahead. Big hugs and loves to you both xxxxxxx Dorothy U.K. 🙋🏻😘❤️❤️
awww my favorite wonderful gentlemen!!! lots of love from Texas!! GOD BLESS U BOTH.. ❤️🙏❤️ OH!! this was so cool!! thank u!! i love this technique.. thanks to ur family.. ur mom clever 😍💕💕💕 haha and i knit backwards too to fix messes.. i thought i was the only one.. they don't teach that on UA-cam channels.. i just found it easier than using a surviver line running thru ur work at a given point..
Hello Arne and Carlos. Another helpful and enjoyable video. I love the Forest Green colour. Will practice with some spare yarn first. How to wind the 2 colours of yarn is an excellent tip Arne and Carlos it is so nice when you compliment Arne when you yourself have learned something new :-) Thank you.
I love to learn new ways of old ways to knit. Thank you so much. As you knit and after you have explained a new technique, I wish you would continue to talk of your country, your home, growing up, do you have pets, the weather, what dad n mom taught you. Just TALK!! So interesting. AN OLD CUSTOM, is what you were looking to say about the winding of the balls.
Thank you, I'm learning to knit. I'm left handed, so nobody showed me, trial and error. First I did weird stitches, but they were even, so it looked ok. I made flat things and sewed then together. I made some catnip mice, and modified that shape to use as thumbs for a few pairs of mittens. Then I wanted to do double knit to be warmer, I did it by twisting exactly like you did in this video!!! I just keep knitting ..
WOW👍👍👍 What a wonderful and mystery pattern!! And ONLY by doing a little switch with the yarn! It's really fantastic! Thank you so much and all the best to you and all what is surrounding you!! GittaLloreley from Germany☺🍀😇😇🍀
Dudes!!!! I cannot believe how beautiful this is. You guys bring us such wonderful surprises! Thanks for this great tutorial! I am enjoying color work right now, but now I have learned about a whole new technique I didn't know I needed to learn lol! I'll have to try this! Have a great week.
I think you mean to say something like the “wisdom of the elders” instead of old wives’ tales. Love your tutorial and new podcast. I wish I could sit and knit for a bit in Norway. I miss traveling but knitting is keeping me content too. Stay well.
As always thank you for the great information. It's always so much fun watching your podcast. I can't believe that Knit Stars is almost here! I'm really looking forward to it, and I never would have known about it if you guys hadn't mentioned it on UA-cam. Thank you so much!
I took a course on twined knitting from Beth Brown-Reinsel on Craftsy. In that class we made mittens. Nice to see the twined knitting in a hat. This will definitely be added to my cue. (Maybe I should make another pair of the mittens too?) Thank-you for the refresher course.
Wow that hat looks really warm, I'll have to try one for this winter. Thank you for another enjoyable video, it's so nice that you share some of your precious time with us !
Hello ~ I agree with Carla J. Your smiles are wonderful. I found myself smiling. I have never seen where you wear the inside out. I have wound balls of yarn but I do like your version. I will have to check out your website and give this a try. Thank you.
What can I say another brilliant podcast, and the hat is gorgeous. I will be knitting some next winter (June in Australia) for the family. Thank you for sharing your knitting expertise, humour and jovial banter. I always look forward to your podcasts.
Great tutorial and pattern! I love twined knitted mittens, and they are my go-to handwear when I’m shoveling snow. I’ll need to make this hat for my husband whether he likes one or not 😂 Love from Seattle!
Beautiful as always! Have done a few rows of this before but never the entire hat, I will try this! Beautiful flowers in background, looks like a miniature version of geraniums? Love the two tone and that color against the dark wood bureau or chest of drawers is stunning! Love you both! Thank you! Enjoy your weekend! ^-^.
Wow, ok. Learning stopping to comment, ok about rolling up two colors inside each other as Arne remembers how his Mother knitted the twine stitch ... was that looping needlework on outside like a crewel stitch? I am wanting to knit some fingerless gloves so I can use only knit stitch so I can design my own crewel work flowers and borders on top ... thank u again and I will print pattern, so beautiful !
Old wives tale = traditional folk method (?maybe). Any way,.its a great tip thanks to Arne's Mum (and maybe her mum too, and so on back into time). The hat is very pretty either side , which is a plus as well. Thanks as ever to you both (Arne, "we better stop now" made me laugh out loud and scare the cat!!😹)
Thank you for your video, I have seen videos on twined knitting before and they made twined knitting seem very difficult, you guys explained it in a way that I could understand and have fun doing it.
This was my first video of you two and I love your style, banter and the knitting techniques!! So happy I finally clicked on your UA-cam this time. I’m still confused about which side is the right side and which is the wrong side because it sounded like the what I thought was the inside is the outside?!?! But I will visit the website now and check out the free pattern. And I will absolutely check back and watch more videos in the future. You guys make it fun and it seems straight forward enough even if I don’t have someone to sort that yarn for me. Thanks so much!
I always wanted to learn how to do this knitting to make mitts so thank you for this tutorial I finally know how it goes see you next week I look forward to you every week
I cast on 48 stitches for a mitt. Did an inch of 2x2 ribbing. Then began alternating colors. When I get to the end of the round, I must use the same color for the first stitch of the next round as for the last stitch of the round I have just completed. Correct? Thank you so much for your teaching! Learning color work techniques was my goal for this winter, and the Christmas balls were an exciting beginning. I am learning so much from you.

You have just reminded me why I tried knitting many times but also why I don't, still very clever info that may come in useful, Thank you. Love the team effort :)
True love is when one person knits and the other tends their yarn

This comment is so sweet. Sounds like a saying :)

Oh Arne, l am so thrilled to learn how to wind the two yarns together like that so the two yarns don’t tangle! It is Very Exciting!
me too 2024!
You know when you say “you can’t say that”, it makes me want to know your version of Old Wives Tale more!!! Thank you for both the tutorials today!
Just love you guys, love your knitting & your home. I don't know what it is, but every time I watch I feel like I'm in front of a cozy fire on a winter night, snuggled with my favorite blanket & a big cup if hot chocolate.😊
I always learn so much from you gents...and you make me laugh too....”no pattern you have to knit from memory” 😂
Arne y Carlos, mis orientadores tejedores; me voy a perfeccionar con vuestros tutoriales, pues estoy aprendiendo a tejer con varios colores...
😃
To untwist the yarn, just keep the yarn in a bowl and then swivel the bowl holding the yarn. That should untwist it. Very simple. Love this stitch.
wait, that's BRILLIANT??? thanks for the tip!!! :)
Thank you guys for this tut but mostly thankful for Arne's mom and her smarts.
I like hearing you two laugh...so joyful. I like pattern of the inside and the outside one is very different. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy your week.
Nifty trick to wind the yarns together. Thanks, fellas!
I would go with 'traditional wisdom' rather than 'old wives tales'. :o)
