I adopted the "Norwegian Knit" and the "Norwegian Purl" by watching Arne. I am not a knitting wizard, I'm just a woman with some years of knitting "English" under her belt. I am self-taught by buying How-to books and patterns back in the '70s. You just have different ways of verbalizing what you are doing. All people really have to do is use the "pause" key liberally. You make a great tag-team on teaching. Thank you!

Oh my goodness, light bulb moment! Thank you both so much. I’ve been trying to learn continental knitting for a while, I could never ‘tension’ the yarn over my finger comfortably without having to re-tension constantly. Your way is perfect, absolutely fantastic tutorial. ‘Change your tools, not you!’ Thanks so much to both of you xx

I'm making a swatch and determined that it is time for me to switch to Norwegian style. So I remembered this video and found it and indeed, it's so simple and in spite of arthritis and tiny (to me) needles, my hands do not hurt and I'm getting the hang of it. "Pull the cord!" Will become my mantra for the swatch by which time I hope it's a habit. Thank you. I guess when one is ready - even motivated - to learn something, it comes easier but also, good teaching helps too.

So your plan is to knit a simple stockinette hat in the round on circular needles? To get started, do you think it would be OK to work the ribbed brim of the hat in my usual way (throw/English style) and then begin the Norwegian style when I get to the stockinette body of the hat, where I'd be knitting every round? This would certainly give lots of practice with Norwegian knitting, yet you'd be knitting something useful, not just a big swatch. Thanks.

Oh my gosh- don’t judge you too harshly?! Are you kidding me? Carlos, we already love you! You and Arne are deeply beloved around the world. You are such a brilliant and masterful team and I admire the way you work together, both personally and professionally. You each have so much to offer and contribute and we all look forward to your episodes each week! My gosh, we plan our days, our lives, around it, LOL! Personally speaking, I have learned so much from each of you; things that far transcend the knitting world. I admire your kind and loving ways, how you treat each other with dignity and respect, you care about our planet and value even the smallest things, but things that matter. I just love and appreciate your ways of ‘being’ in the world, your skills and your breadth of knowledge, your generosity, warmth and hospitality, your values and ethics and well-roundedness...honestly, I could go on. I have been your fan for many years when I stumbled on you quite accidentally on UA-cam one day and I have remained drawn in ever since. It was one of life‘s greatest highlights to meet you both in Ashcroft, British Columbia 🇨🇦 last fall. Now, I’m so excited to re-watch your video and practice this new way of knitting! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am 70 years old and taught myself how to knit in my early twenties. I struggled for years (in my teens) to learn how to knit the way it was taught in the books in the US where I live, and the way my grandmother showed me, but I just couldn't get it. Finally I decided just do it my own way. After watching your videos I realized I wasn't doing it the "wrong" way, I was doing it the "Old Norwegian Farmers" way. My projects always come out nice, but I am slow! I wanted to learn your Norwegian way so I could knit faster and be more comfortable with color work. I watched both Arne's and Carlos' tutorials and picked it up in no time! Love it. (My great grandfather was from Norway, maybe it's in the genes.LOL). I just started watching you last fall and am still catching up. You guys are awesome. Thank you

I am so relieved that I am not the only one that knits this way. I am not Norwegian, I was born in Caracas, Venezuela and this is the way I’ve been knitting since my mother taught me at age 15. I’ve been living in Canada for many years now and I always felt a little bit weird because people here knit the English way (I think that’s how it’s called). I could never explain why my way of knitting was different than everyone else, and also I don’t really know the history of how it came to be that this is the way my mother used to knit. I now have learned that the way I knit it’s called “Combination Continental”. I do the purl stitch different than the Norwegian way, but still hold the yarn the same way. Very interesting! Thank you Arne and Carlos.

I'm relatively new to knitting and I was about to give up because after hours and hours of practice my knitting was still awkward and slow, and I was constantly struggling with split strands, ladders, tension issues, and uneven stitches. Then I tried your method of knitting , which at first was difficult for me to understand how to hold the yarn and place my fingers but finally I got the feel for it and it changed the quality, speed and rhythm of my knitting immediately and made it fun and relaxing. Now I feel confident enough to actually try to make something nice. Thank you so much!

Thank you, you both have changed my knitting life. I learned to throw knitting when I was 5 years old, my Grandma Mary taught me this way as I couldn't hold the needles and thread in the continental way, my hands were to small. My Grandma also taught me to crochet, and I found it easier, so put knitting in the back part of my brain. I picked up knitting again in my teens, but I only knew how to throw so my knitting was very slow. I found you two wonderful knitters and you taught me how to knit. Thank You. Great job Carlos. I've been trying very hard to keep my finger down and you did a great job of explaining it. I will now always remember "pull the cord". Can't wait for the purl video as I definitely have trouble with the finger when I purl. Thanks again and I love you guys.

Fantastic. Well done. You made it look so easy. I’m 77 and have been a thrower. I will change now. Wahoo. ❤️

I am glad to learn this. So many of my knitting friends knit with index finger up in the air. I thought this might be a better technique. Also learned to tension with yarn wrapped around my little finger. The Norwegian way works much better for me, but I need to create new muscle memories. I am finding my tension to be much better without wrapping it! It makes so much more sense! Thank you! And, by the way, I have learned from the tutorials each of you have taught! Thank you!

Ah! I watched this previously and have been practicing. After constantly having to “pull the cord” I thought I’d revisit and see what I missed and there it is, gently pinch the left needle between your fingers. This has solved it, my fingers staying where it should. Thank you!

I really enjoy you guys. I paid attention and come to find out - this is the way I naturally knit. Right now I’m working on a garter stitch blanket, but next time I need to purl I’ll watch the Norwegian purling video. I bring the yarn to the front, so I know I will be learning a new technique. Thanks for all you do!!!

Pandemic hobby #7 for me is KNITTING! Thank you for showing me how to comfortably knit and purl in the Norwegian method. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching and replaying and replaying and replaying and replaying your videos again and again. Stay safe and keep knitting & sharing your passions!

Thanks Carlos ! This was great! Now I think I can handle it better. My gauge is still looser than when I knit with my right hand and I throw the yarn but I will continue to practice. Both of you are very good teachers. I know because I am a retired teacher.

Hello lovely Arne and Carlos I loved this episode of your vlog. I am so glad you chose a pre-recorded episode, I am concerned you are going overtire yourself. You really helped me understand the Norwegian method of sewing. It certainly looks very comfortable and easy to do once you have persevered with this method. Anything new is always trial and error and just keeping going. I taught myself to knit when I was 9 and it is nit traditional in any way, but I have always wanted to knit ‘properly’ so this is my chance to perfect it. Thank you both for keeping us all going, you are absolute stars to me. Look after yourselves, you are both my favourite people. Big hugs and loves always xxxxxxxxx Dorothy U.K. ❤️❤️🙋🏻😘😘🌟🌟

I love watching both of u knit. Arne has a rhythm that is quite beautiful to watch and Carlos has an ease that feels relaxing. Everyone has a slight difference and it's good to see that. Thank you for sharing with us.

Súper WOW! I learned to knit when I was in high school (many many years ago) I wish I would have learned it this way, it looks so much better and simpler, I have not knitted in years, I crochet because I found it to be quicker, but I think I will give it a try again the Norwegian way, thank you so much!

I learned English style and tried to learn continental for ages to speed up and to stop my hand from cramping, but I couldn’t get it. This, however, is GENIUS. It’s so much easier to catch the yarn when it’s resting against your index finger as opposed to flying in the air continental style. Can’t wait to keep practising this!
