@Yury Acosta it’s not a choice, they don’t say let’s have a kid and pick the worst neighborhood to live in, it’s what the can afford. A lot of these people have families that lived in the neighborhood for decades, the neighborhood changed and they can’t afford to move anywhere else. All these bad neighborhoods were really good ones before. A lot of these people are also relying on public aid/housing and only certain areas accept public housing vouchers and they’re majorly in bad areas. If you’re living paycheck to paycheck then it’s near impossible for you to move. All it takes is one gang to claim a block and the neighborhood’s reputation is over. In Chicago you can be in a rich neighborhood and walk two blocks and be in the worst. If you’re not from a big city, or Chicago especially, you wouldn’t understand.

But when politicians waste and steal the money given by Federal and State and not invest in their Cities, then people will resort to what they have to in order to eat and put a roof over ones head. When that happens those who did have a business or was thinking of opening one up Leave and go where crimes not running rampant! It’s a Vicious Circle once it begins. But there can be away out. I get what you're saying, but she shouldn't have waited for this to happen. Protection usually occurs before a bad thing can happen, Chicago has been dangerous for a long time and if she can move now she should have done it before she had kids.
Not that this is her fault personally, this is on the community at large and people like lori lightfoot who will blame the white man and a million other things when they should be looking inwards at the shortcomings of their own peoples and where the starting point for change is.

@@Natasha___. I can be civil and still disagree with you. You cannot just address these issues on the surface or speak on them and not really understand why things are the way that they are. That being said, the chances these things changing are slim, as a mother who was likely already struggling financially, I’d imagine she was planning on moving eventually. Very few purposely choose to stay in these neighborhoods. The majority are struggling financially and therefore can only afford these areas that are cheap (because of all the crime and shootings) and a large reason for that struggle is salary because no matter how hard you work to save, you can’t do it fast enough with a poor salary. And if you’re already struggling to pay rent and bills, at why point will you have enough saved up to put a deposit down to move elsewhere? What about moving expense money? First few months of rent? Or better yet, the money to either build or pay off credit/debt? Mind you this also often starts as a cycle because they aren’t being taught how to do these things. I was blessed to have parents who could get us out of that situation and into better schools and areas but if it hadn’t been for my mother taking a risk and starting her business we would’ve been in that same cycle too. It’s never as simple as so many of you think it is. It often takes years of learning and preparing for the opportunity to be able to afford to move away from these areas. Before taking note of people being uncivilized, maybe give a step by step approach to teach others how to get out of these living conditions? And that’s not me being rude, because oftentimes that’s the quickest way. Is for someone who has been there and made it out to show others how to do so.

I’m black and this is worse than any “police brutality” or “racism” we will EVER experience. A 4 week old baby was shot, and it’s not close to the first or the last time this will happen. We need to work on our own communities and people and hold EVERYONE accountable.

Also of the darker color of skin. In my opinion it's the collectives of races holding ourselves back. Too much pride in these collective identities, especially if one's darker in skin in the US.. it seems to me that the communities I was raised in always scapegoated "YT" all the time.
The tension is too fixated to repeat destructive mnemonics like observing the world with the lenses of races. I really think the best solution is to leave behind those areas in which there are ethnocentrists and find communities that practice honest to goodness efforts.
I've tried building the "black" community in a few areas and everytime the response is the same, the good things done are rebelled against and destroyed or the problems that everyone wants solved are too large of steps before the chasm can be crossed, typical is what it is, because things can only be resolved on "their" racistic terms..
As long as young guys and also many young women too keep glorifying certain cultures and hating the more fortunate then there's not going to be any progress.
I hate to be critical in this way, but I've been having to say it for years, while the few people that I actually mentored or were bright enough to take my advice actually improved their lot in their lives.
This is what you get when you keep voting Democrat just like Baltimore, New York, California and etc. and it funny how most of the police brutality and racism are happening in mostly Blue state or Blue city.

There are many many children, babies, innocent people who get shot in Chicago. It's been going on too too long. And it's the same areas that were problematic areas 30-40 years ago. And if you do the research you will see Chicago has a long ugly history of violence.
My heart just sunk. I literally cried for that baby! I am so thankful to God that she is alive and recovering. Sending all the love to you, little one❤️. And good decision by the mother to leave that place.

I’m one of those people who would say that
I moved there for work after receiving a promotion. It was the worst 5 years of my career. Mostly everyone that I met there was miserable, afraid, and wanted out. The only thing I miss about Chicago is Portillos. I would not recommend anyone moving there.

This is common in highly populated cities, what really needs to happen is a reevaluation on public schooling and get kids more interested in learning than being criminals
Edit: Chicago is not the only place, in the city of Detroit 1 in 3 public schools are closed, Detroit Public Schools in the end of the 2015-16 school year, the district was $467 million in debt and on the verge of bankruptcy, because of the lack of attendance. $27 million dollars was invested in schools that were closed and demolished a few years later. Sherrard Elementary was renovated in 2002 at a cost of $1.4 million dollars, only to close in 2007. Our government is failing our future and children.
exactly most kids at lower income neighborhood schools are wild and cause major ruckus in class. This city is the land of lost boys. I imagine more than 80% of the shooters grew up without a dad present in the home. It’s kinda like instant karma. The dads leave or get put out of the home for cheating, or physical abuse or various reasons.
Then since he doesn’t care for the Mother anymore he gets a new woman and disregards the Ex wife or girlfriend. Next thing you know the kid is a 7th grader and becomes disruptive in class and the situation gets worse when the teen years start.
This mess starts at home and in the community they live in the school systems cant help that.

Me and my kids constantly on the floor why they shooting. I got ptsd, Axity, depression wile living there. Now I’m not there and I realize how much damage has done to our family we scared to go out to society 😢

I only pointed out the distance to show that I know about Chicago’s hood because people from STL hoods share stories based off their travels. They even go so far as to compete with which city is the toughest🙄.
And don’t admonish me for sharing my experience. I grew up in STL in the 90s and violence, gangs, and crime were constant. My step mom’s homegirl had her car stolen right in front of our house and she had only stopped by to visit for less than 20 minutes. My mom had her car stolen right in front of her beauty salon while she was inside with about a dozen other gossiping women in broad daylight.
I found out a classmate of mine from junior high made the FBIs most wanted list and countless others who were murdered due to street violence or are locked up. I worked with a girl at grocery store as a teen who was 8 months pregnant and was murdered by her drug dealing boyfriend’s rivals as a revenge killing. I had just saw her at work the weekend prior.
I moved because I found better JOB OPPORTUNITY and have been thriving ever since. Then I come back to STL to visit and watch the local news and there are CONSTANT shootings 15+ years later. Nothing has changed. One that just happened this year involved a father with his daughter who were both shot and killed by rivals of his as he was picking her up from his girlfriend’s house. And this happened just blocks from where my family resides.
False narratives huh? Yeah right. Maybe my standards of living and civility are a little bit higher than yours. You do you and I will continue to do me. But trust that my family will not be growing up in the concrete jungle as long as I can help it 💯
