There have been so many floods in WNC that devastated people's lives in rural areas, especially along creeks. Their stories aren't often told because news crews flock to Biltmore Village and the River Arts District. I'm glad this news crew told the other stories.

THEY HAD NO WARNING! I grew up in East Tennessee. I live in Western NC, now. It's horrible 😢. I've given $ and volunteered. This storm is unprecedented. We don't have massive floods in the mountains. Well, we just did. Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse is already there. That's where I gave $ to and volunteered with. Choppers have been flying from here to Boone and Asheville, delivering supplies. Please give $$ to help. We weren't prepared for this and the dams overflowing and collapsing. We need your prayers, too! I just got power on today but MANY have no power and/or no homes, clothing, possessions, etc. But, we're Americans and Mountain Strong! We WILL bounce back but we need our fellow Americans help at this time.❤

Whole mtn sides in places .. i have never seen a wall of rain and wind wipe a mountain out before my eyes until the other day... I watched as my neighbors mountain side got erased ... It was there then gone in a deafing crackling roar .. it took 18 hours to clear 1 10th of a mile on my road... This is what Axlerod said about people in NC: "Former Obama senior adviser David Axelrod argued that Vice President Kamala Harris voters will be clever enough to navigate voting in the wake of the devastation from Hurricane Helene, while saying that rural Trump voters will have a harder time getting to the polls.
Axelrod made the claim during an episode of his podcast "Hacks on Tap" that aired Wednesday, predicting that liberal voters in Asheville, North Carolina - a predominantly blue area in the state - will "figure out a way to vote" more so than conservatives in the storm’s aftermath.
Describing Asheville as a "blue dot" in the state, he continued, "Those voters in Asheville are - they’re, you know, the kind of voters that will figure out a way to vote. You know, they’re upscale, kind of liberal voters, and they’re probably going to figure out a way to vote," Axelrod said.
    […]
"I’m not sure a bunch of these folks who’ve had their homes and lives destroyed elsewhere in western North Carolina - in the mountains there - are going to be as easy to wrangle for the Trump campaign," the political commentator hypothesized.
"I don’t know how that’s all going to play out, but it’s an unpredictable element in North Carolina that has made it, maybe a little more interesting," he mused.
Communities in North Carolina - which Axelrod noted is the second-most rural state in the country - were hit especially hard by the effects of Hurricane Helene. Catastrophic flooding has destroyed roads and bridges, cutting off communities from getting much-needed aid.
    "
Get out and vote North Carolinians!!!

Flash flooding happening during the day in the mountains with water raising as high as 30ft in under a few hours in some areas is crazy.
30ft waters moving throughout smokey mountains is nuts.

This is why you RESEARCH the 100 year flood level BEFORE you buy property next to a river. Counties that allow building in flood planes should be found to be criminally liable. The county supervisors should go to prison.

Unlike the parts of Florida that got hit where we have cities and we have cookie cutter suburbs people are easier to find. I feel like North Carolina's biggest problem is all these people sporadically spread out amongst these mountains.
It's fun to live remotely and off the beaten path until something like this happens.

Thank you for your prayers! Sincerely appreciated. Sadly many lives were lost and that is the tragic part. The amount of property damage is extensive and will take years to rebuild. Some areas are probably not rebuildable due to topography changes. That said know we are otherwise ok! Still trying to get to many up in the mountains. The majority of rescue parties doing that are good old boys with chainsaws and ATV’s: Many are still without power and most of us are without water and will be for a while. Everyone I know is grateful for the thoughts and prayers offered by God fearing folks such as yourself. Know that we are strong and we will be fine in due time. There is always have hope in Christ Jesus!

Help today is one thing, and desperately needed. But please don't forget these fine folks in Appalachia who always seem to be forgotten about as they seek to recover in the days, weeks, and months to come. They're gonna need a LOT of long term help, long after the FEMA trucks leave and government checks are cashed.

They have Dillingham cut off. Are they rescuing everyone?

    • @jesshageman4670
      @jesshageman4670 3 місяці тому +2

I live(d) on Dillingham. Yesterday the road just started to open up but it is hardly passable without four wheel drive. They're basically rezoning the road as they go with gravel and it's one lane in some spots. It's unrecognizable/disorienting. Many homes washed away or wrapped around trees.
The locals congregate at the old fire station at the end of Dillingham and they have boards listing names of missing people, etc. but it seems like it's mostly willing locals and private companies doing the work. I'm sure some organization or fire dept is involved but honestly, even with federal agencies deployed there are many of these rural communities that are only getting attention by the residents who stayed or who have returned post-evacuation. I know lots of help is going to Asheville and they need it too, but it will be a while before the little pockets in the mountain are even touched by the big names and by then there will only be bodies to recover, either from attempted evacuations or people who died after the fact from lack of water and inability to reach aid stations in town.
I've heard horror stories from other locals and we all agree the "official" death count across the counties are bogus, completely and intentionally being underreported.
In months to come they will STILL be finding bodies up in the mountains and in remote valleys where people tried to escape after it was too late.

Lake Lure NC fire chief allegedly threatened a private helicopter pilot to stop rescue missions. Jordan Seidhom, who had made a number of rescues over a day and a half, and worked with several fire and rescue personnel, had just rescued a stranded woman when he was approached by the fire chief and threatened to be arrested for interfering. Seidhom was told not to fly back up the hill to get his son, who stayed behind with the woman’s husband, as there was only room for one person at a time in his aircraft. Despite the threat, Seidhom returned for his son, but was forced to leave the man stranded, and now separated from his wife.
