    I'm an ex wildland firefighter of ten years. I know how to work my ass off. I will be the first to say, that anyone who claims skaters are lazy should watch this video. I was LITERALLY cringing at how many attempts he made. I would have lost my cool and snapped that fucking board very quickly.
    I know he didn't intend it that way. But this video gave me the slightest hint at the determination and patience required to learn to skate well.
    Obviously you must be willing to fail FAR more than you succeed. To be willing to bleed again and again for such a small gain. That level of dedication. building skill layer by painful layer. THAT is awesome.
    I know internet shit does not really matter. Words are often lost in the undulating mass of the billions. But I would still like to state that skaters earned much more respect from me after this watch.
    From a firefighting perspective. I would hire Aaron in a second. As he CLEARLY knows how to work on a level that only the hardest jobs in the world can provide. That level of determination, trying to pull a sliver of satisfaction from a day of suffering. Only the strongest people on earth can do that. I know the context is different but I believe the principal to be the same.
    I know it sounds stupid, but I was VERY impressed with the persistence shown. It makes me want to learn to skate even more now. I look forward to my brutal three month journey in trying to do a simple kickflip. The challenge is too tempting.
    So thanks for the motivation Aaron, if you ever wanted approval over the internet from a mountain man. You got it.

  • @karlmuster263
    @karlmuster263 8 років тому +35

    After reviewing in slow mo, you can see their steps are different. After popping, Tyler's back foot was on the ground whereas Aaron's was floating in the air. I guess Tyler's follow-through gives more vertical pop and lets him keep forward motion to stay with the board.

    • @karlmuster263
      @karlmuster263 8 років тому +7

      It also looks way cleaner.

    • @marnie2010
      @marnie2010 8 років тому

      Because of that they also use different feet to jump off back onto the board.

    • @carnyzack
      @carnyzack 8 років тому

      After popping, Tyler lands with his back foot first, then steps with his front foot to jump with his back foot back unto the board. Aaron is planting his front foot first, popping with his back foot, but never planting it. Tyler has an extra step which propels him forward to better catch the board when it's done flipping. Which is why Aaron was always behind the board...even when he finally doesn't land a couple, it's on a the tail and way too far back...because he doesn't plant his back foot.

  • @Bleats_Sinodai
    @Bleats_Sinodai 8 років тому +84

    Aaron, the main problem I see for you to properly land that trick is that you were sticking the front foot on the ground for support, while Tyler sticks his back foot on the ground.
    This allows him to use his front foot to take a step before jumping back on the board!

      Says the one with no videos on their channel... huh.
      Anyways, I simply made an observation. I'm in no way saying Aaron is a bad skater, quite the opposite actually. He's very persistent, and his channel inspired me to get my own board!
      I'm just waiting to have enough cash to buy safety gear, so I don't bust my skull open if I fall trying to learn how to ollie. I plan on doing a "learning to skateboard" series of videos.

    Watching this makes me feel better about being a beginner to skating (I'm 20) been watching braille for a long time and just decided not so long ago to start skating and I have huge respect for this channel and the guys within it. I mean I feel rather embarrassed at points when going out to practice, I mean I don't even goto skate parks because i feel like I'll be judged.. but seeing Aaron still learning gives me more confidence and I respect him for putting up these vids, helps us beginners build up more courage within ourselves.
    anyway thanks guys! prosper and skate on!

You only put your front foot on the ground for a sec and landed, where as Tyler stood on the ground with both feet and then jumped back on. Outdid the "teacher", props.

    Hey. Cool vid... I'm not much of a skateboard aficionado but my brother showed me the video as he's giving skateboarding a try. I could be wrong but I noticed in the video the difference between Tyler and your technique...Tyler's Blackfoot lands on the floor first at the flick where as your back foot hangs when at the flick. Maybe that's the secret to getting the flick right consistently?

    OK, so NORMALLY if you are right-handed do your toes face left or right? Left foot forward or behind? Because I am right-handed and I have my left foot forward and push off with my right foot. But I see almost everyone else facing the other way so am I wrong or am I just around a lot of lefties?

    Many people underestimate the power of taking a break! Sometimes all it takes is ten minutes of rest and thinking about something else. This always worked for me when learning to play drums. For more complicated things, it takes one night of sleep and then, the first thing in the morning you can do anything first try.
