Thanks for watching Saulo Ribeiro: Lessons from a Champion from Roy Dean.
I am continually amazed at the humility, compassion, and general "likeability" of some of the absolute top athletes in this sport/art.
Saulo is my fav, cuz hes not only a great champion and competitor, he finds very simple solutions for every position. So detailed aproach to each technique, i strongly recomend his dvd's, imo the best u can buy atm.
Greetings for all bjj practicioners ;)
Amazing how a black belt like yourself could learn so much from Professor Ribeiro. A true master indeed, and I am honoured to be learning this art from one of his black belts.
Classic, short, and still one of the best jj videos on the net!
It looks like Saulo is a really great teacher who is able to explain things thoroughly and is pretty funny too!
Saulo is such a great teacher. He cares about his students and they way he breaks down the techniques is amazing!!! His reputation is amazing and his teaching is another level
Its great to see someone who by all rights could have a big head be so humble and sincere
Saulo is a real class act and a good teacher.
A lot of knowledge right there man. The beautiful thing about jiujitsu is just what Saulo said about age and the journey. You could be a forty year old brown belt with tons of mat time yet the journey is just beginning. You can be a twenty year old black belt yet learn from the same brown belt. Then you get meetings like this with these guys and it just shows how this game is so expansive.
Very nice quote when Saulo says : '' When everybody puts the Gi the're the same. You know what makes us different ? The Hearth.'' Very deep. Saulo is legend. Thanks Roy for sharing your amazing video. Cheers
I have spent MONTHS just going to my back at every opportunity and letting people get side control, mount and knee on belly, JUST to test out Saulo's defensive stuff. It sucked for a while but now I am so comfortable going to my back and have no fear except against the top 4-5 guys at my club. Thing is those guys are the only guys that can now challenge my defense. The black belts still cut through my defense like butter but that just means I have some place to make gains in my BJJ.
Saulo is truly one of the all time greats.
Saulo is a true gentleman and a great ambassador for the sport!
Mr. Ellis: I watch this film every once in a while; and it always inspires me to return to the dojo. Sensei Ribeiro's selfless style never fails to remind me that even as an "old man" I have a lot to gain in the study of jiu jitsu. Thank you for posting!
wow Saulo has a great insight on jiu jitsu. I hope to become close to that in the many years to come.
Saulo Ribeiro is a true Jiu Jitsu Samurai. I'm glad to call him my friend and proud champion and supporter. Brian Cimins - CEO, Grapplers Quest
more please....Saulo is the greatest!
This guy is incredible. A true legend. Thanks for sharing this, Roy.
That timing on blocking the leg 1:35
no way that was sooo sick i wish i had a chance to roll with either one of them
Wish it were longer. I find myself looki g for words of wisdom regarding jiu jitsu more than a technique. I mean I search on UA-cam for technique too, but wise words, are awesome, like Saulo here, or Ryan Hall both very wise teachers who teach serious concepts, not cookie cutter tecnique.
"Our mission is to bring joy"
That's it.
Beautiful Mr. Ellis! And thank you for posting this Mr. Dean.
It was such a pleasure to see him grapple at this years ADCCs - I was loving it when he came out in a Gi to fight Monson in the Absolute. Idol.
I agree, it's a great book. I just started out a couple weeks ago but I refer to the book as well as Roy Dean's Blue Belt Essentials DVD after nearly every class to see what I did right or wrong. I've actually come to enjoy being in disadvantageous positions just to see if I can "survive".
BTW, I love this video...it just goes to show that learning in Jiu Jitsu doesn't stop once you reach black belt. Thanks Roy!
So Simple yet so beautiful... What a great attitude!!!
Beautiful 😍 - having Saulo show Roy some moves is high level stuff…!!!
Dean ! so cool you let us see that . you are gracious .I really like to listen to saulo .
his glue the forearm to the knee guard pass has helped me alot .
Saulo and Roy's dvds are the best for white and blue belts PERIOD
He is the person I look up to. I wish I could train with him one day but I live in the UK. One day I hope I can be like him. Osssss
thank you prof.dean, i learn alot just by that small segment of controlling of position, thanks for sharing.
I have got lazy recently and haven't trained in around 2 weeks. This video makes me wanna go train. I should be on the mats.
I got Saulos book and I have learned so much from the white belt section and I'm a PURPLE BELT!!! Stuff like blocking the cross face and connecting your knees and elbows have taken my game to new levels. I'm not ashamed to say I learned from the white belt section. Of all the books I have Saulos is the ONLY one that is beat up, worn out with ragged pages. I keep it in the bath room and read it when I am ......ok I'll keep that to myself....LOL. GREAT BOOK. Please Saluo write another one.
I love Saulo's ears, it shows that he's paid his dues. Many years on the mat. I would be proud to have ears like him :)
Very good video ... The path for those who trains in jiu-jitsu
Saulo is a BJJ god! The fact that he is teaching at Roy Deans academy says a ton!
Awesome vid!! Saulo's methods are absolutely brilliant. I want to go to the University of Jiu Jitsu someday and train him and Xande.
@laser1ish Oh hell yeah. I hope Saulo does another book with more positions. I noticed north south was missing from the book, which is fine. There is only so much you can cram in one book. I have even taught some classes after using the cross face block for 6-8 months. Now guys in my club are using it against me and it is making life miserable. How awesome is that? I use one of Saulo's techniques, teach it to other guys at my club and they are using it right away. Great stuff.
that was outstanding it make me want to learn but i just don't have the time to make it to the class. i stopped by and enjoy the atmosphere there. great video.
"Jiu jitsu makes you not think about your age because jiu-jitsu is a lifetime journey" damn thats awesome
Starting BJJ is probably the best decision I've ever made in my life. I have experience in Muay Thai and always wanted to try BJJ but to be honest it intimidated me. I finally decided to just roll with it (excuse the pun) and dive into BJJ as a complete newbie, knowing nothing, and having to even borrow a gi without a belt that was around 3 sizes too big for me. I quickly learned that you get over embarrassment VERY quickly in this game. It is something you have to experience for yourself.
this video is amazing, saulo is the best!
Ficou muito bom! Parabéns pelo vídeo!
Love it! Great seminar too!
i believe you can tell alot about a person by the people he/she CHOOSES to suround themselves with. mr roy dean appears to suround himself with quality. for that he, as well as his students, show they are men and women of quality.
Lessons from a legend!
man this guy looks like he's a down ass person. id like to meet him. recently started bjj,2 months in. always getting tapped but its great. his book , like the other guy said is something you wont regret. man, as a white belt , i just need to be humble , learn from the others, and just survive. and thats what iam doing. bjj is so addictive and it helps you in your daily life.. its true youll be having a tough day, than you go to bjj class , and you always come out feeling 100 percent better
@thebuzzcjc It's amazing that no one has really developed a book that lays out the necessities for a person to concentrate on in each belt level like Saulo has. Obviously the white belt can still work sweeps and subs, but the main focus should be on survival. As a purple with 8 years of BJJ I have to say that the white belt section has taken my defense to an entirely new level. People at the club say things like: "Man your defense is tight!" and I have helped others learn Saulo's stuff too.
What a legend. I have just started BJJ and hope one day I can be like him.
That is an awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
This man looks so happy
not money
but jiu jitsu makes you happy :D
it's awesome that he said a new journey starts as a black belt
I can't wait to attend one of Saulo's seminars at the Ribeiro academy I train at. He and Xande are amazing.
superb video. One of the best i have watched on here regarding BJJ.
I have the book 'Jiu-jitsu university' by Saulo Ribeiro and it is very well presented book to aid my training. what a fantastic man.
thanks for posting.
Is that Roy Dean? Saulo and Roy are great instructors!
Nice film Rick. I met you at the Claudio's US Open. The fim quality is very good. I would have loved to have been there.
Saulo is my new instructors teacher wow he is awesome
great video, someone you might want to look into is john danaher. i've never done a private with him myself but i've heard from lots of people that he is the best teacher out there.
You know what make us diferent? The Heart...
Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful. Thank you.
Awesome thanks for sharing.
Wonderful vibe.
Book is awsome!!
Beautiful and humbling. I have such a long way to go... (am a blue belt in bjj).
This was great. Thanks.
damm this vid was sick....i like how he said that u change the positions too fast.. instead of being conserved... good info
oh, yeah i like the new shot on the way the video was set up.
one word : legend
Jui Jitsu University was the best $40 (i know i could of got it cheaper online) I've ever spent. It changed my whole philosophy and stepped my game to a whole other level. I just started training bjj in January. I think all beginners of the sport should read it though it can be a reference for even the highest levels
This dude is awesome.
this is a great video.
my only complaint is the length, i want more haha.... too bad youtube did away with the star rating system, because this deserves at least a 5
Awesome video clip!
@SCROGY GREAT BOOK!!! Out of the 7-8 I own, some by the Gracies, It is my FAVORITE..
awesome video!
Love it!
inspirational....
Is this an upcoming documentary style movie? If so, where can I learn more about it?
More videos of saulo ribeiro please!
@jagexisthedevil It's called Jiu Jitsu University. It's about 1 1/2" thick and is blue and tan colored with Saulo's name on it. Buy it, you'll not regret it.
Trying to get my motivation as have been out of training for two months. So want to go back training. I keep watching videos of BJJ and miss the mat. I just hope I can get up and go tomorrow
Did you get back on the mat??
This sounds like a good book my friend, what is it called?
Nice shoyoroll gi. I have the same one.
SAULO RULES, DIEGO IS MY NIGHTMARE
Must see this.
Thanks man. I'm fit enough to deal with the training/sparring but I'm still unfit, if you get what I'm saying.
roy dean has an awesome shoyoroll gi there. i am jealous.
the way saulo says "Allll day" at 1:58
roy dean!
Hey, that's Roy Dean in there!
what gi is Saulo wearing?
what gi is saulo wearing
Sweet
@Knockturnal88 i got mine and yes it was the best 40 dollars i spent on a book. i started doing jiu jitsu this year also, but it's been quiet for me for the past few months cause no one wants to keep going. but i do what i can with what i have and i was hoping to be at blue belt status by the end of the year but it hasn't been working out. but i still working it slowly.
The person who made the comment about his ears is wrong - the beauty of the sport IS his ears. Dues have been paid.
I seriously wish that video could have gone on for another hour at least
we did that butt scoot at 0:51 at training and IT IS REALLY HARD TO DO!
i rolled with one of saulos purple belts and he made me feel like i was a whitebelt again
Πολύ καλή δουλειά μπραβο
