OMG incredible transformation and a whole bucket full of useful new tools (at least for me).
Hi Dave, it's almost midnight and I have worked my way through this. I feel more confident always use the different maskings. The free Dodge and burn does work, but I think the consistent masking is more subtle an controllable. Thanks a lot as always and greetings from Berlin, Germany
I'm your big fan, so nothing to comment as such. Watching TK8 videos is like a weekly meditation session ❤❤❤
Nice presentation! My most gain is at the end of film, the color enhancement technique. Thank YOU!
Really nice edit. Love how you show case more of the tools in the TK8 panel and how they can make the image sing. Well done and very educational. Thank you Dave.
One of your best landscapes!!! Subtle adjustments yet quite effective. Thanks again
Happiness is TK Friday! Another wonderful full edit tutorial. Thanks Dave!
What a way to start the weekend. TK Fridays are always fun. I like the way you used the paint contrast feature with all of the colors. Thanks to Tony for adding the last step to before/after.
Fanastatic use of the TK8 panel…thank you so much
Thanks Dave for one more super tutorial. The TK8 panel has so many amazing ways to improve an image. It can be overwhelming and yet you make it. all so simple and straight forward. My challenge is to remember what you have taught me. Keep 'em coming' !
Hello Dave, thank you for yet another great tutorial. I liked the different methods you used to apply colors to this beautiful scene.
Hello Dave, loving the way you can add and adjust the colours, so much control, great tutorial as always, thank you
Another terrific instructional video, Dave. I really enjoy these every week, but this one stands out for the multiple techniques that you demonstrate as well as the beautiful end result. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Dave.
Great video Dave!
Thanks Dave, again a great tutorial
Great work - an amazing transformation!
I also love how you used several tools to edit this image, it helps me understand how it all comes together as a total edit. I also liked how you showed there's more than one way to dodge and burn. I feel like I'm really starting to get it! Thanks Tony!
Merci Dave. J'apprends tellement au fur et a mesure des tutos
Really learning a lot from these TK Friday videos, and this one was quite a transformation. Thank you, Dave!
Glad you enjoyed it Dave.
Hope it will be over 30 K subscribers next Friday!
I just recently heard about your TK8 Fridays. I updated my TK7 to TK8, but was overwhelmed about how to use the 7 or the 8 (even after a workshop and Sean Bagshaw's video). THANK YOU SO MUCH for your easy to understand step by step edits (with explanations) on the panel. I plan to practice an edit following your examples to learn what the different features are and how to use them. Again, many thanks!🥰
P.S. I can't believe all this knowledge is FREE!!! 😲
Dave...Thanks for another awesome video...Every time I/we watch your presentation it opens up new possibilities within our TK8 tool box...Have a great 4th of July holiday!
Really liked how you processed the image. Some excellent learning in this episode.
Thank you very much for your work & for sharing. Best regards from Switzerland 👋👋👋
Another excellent job, Dave. Love hearing no "to be" in your Pittsburghese.
A REALLY GOOD EDIT Dave. You used some of the Actions that you heretofore hadn't done-----so it was quite helpful. Thanks
You're welcome!
Hi Dave, there are few words of gratitude for your educational work, without a doubt a great help to master the T. Kuyper i pluggin, if that were not enough you also give us actions, actions like this week where we have the before / after. Thank you very much.
My chutzpah leads me to ask you not only to give us the action, but also to teach us how to fish.
what are the steps to do an action like this? how can we do it without having to copy it?
See, if the Photoshop we use is not in English, the action does not work:
Excuse my boldness
Many, but thank you very much
Another excellent full edit. Each of your Friday videos inspires me to try your techniques. 👋
Most of the photos you edit are from landscape or wildlife. I'm very interested in seeing how to apply the TK plugin for people photos.
Thanks
Thanks!
Thanks Steve for the Super Thanks, it is very much appreciated!
Danke!
Thank you for the Super Thanks.
Another excellent tutorial. Love the way you explain every step. Is there a way to save a luminosity mask in Channels? Seems like you demonstrated that once but couldn't find it.
Yes you can Tom. Click on the Luminosity Mask Button and select a luminosity mask. To save it in Channels just click on the middle button (it says Save) at the bottom of the Output section. Give it a name and it will get saved to Channels. You can the X out of the Mask Generation or continue to work with that mask.
Dave, this is definitely in the top 2 or 3 videos over the past few years, as usually so many excellent lessons in such compact 30 min video. Thanks Dave - I noticed you did not use the Orton Effect at the end, although I don’t think it needed it. Some photographers I follow say they always apply a low amount (15 to 25% opacity) of the Orton Effect to every image. Do you have any thoughts on this, also do you target you Orton Effect to certain parts of an image or is your usually approach to apply it to the entire image with a Lights 1 LM?
I don't apply it to all images but I usually try it. I think I tried it on the image but felt it didn't really benefit it. I do like to try different masks when using the Orton effect. I usually use the Layer Mask Mode on the TK8 Multi-Mask Panel because it is great for see the effects of different masks. I find Lights 1 works sometimes and also Mids 2 or 3 can really help and sometimes just lowering the opacity is also something that is beneficial.
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly - Thanks for the info on Orton Effect, that is usually my approach, but you know Dave I always forget to use the Layer Mask Mode and it's so useful, I just have to remind myself to use it. Have a great week, stay cool.
Always something new to learn! When did/would you do sharpening? What was the issue with the Before-After action?
I did the sharpening in Lightroom before going into Photoshop.
If the Background layer is not named Background the action will not work. I explain this in my TK Friday video published July 7, 2023.
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Thanks Dave! HAHA - I'm a week behind on your videos!
Another great tutorial Dave. I do have a question…. Can the add color action be used with a mask? If so, do you make the selection first and then paint, or add color first and then the mask. I can never seem to make it work. Thanks so much!
Good question Carol and yes it can be used with a mask.
1. Click on the Add Color Action.
2. Generate a mask of any kind.
3. Output to the Black Mask, White brush, painting through a selection. (Icon Black Square with White brush)
You can paint on the effect wherever you like.
Hi Dave, another happy Friday! I noticed in this video and previous ones, demonstrations on how to use the new beta version of the panel when color grading that when you hover over to move the little buttons, the tooltips don't show up. When I downloaded the beta, I've noticed that as soon as I hover over the panel in the color grading section, the tooltips cover the small circles and it gets hard to move them around. I don't know if its only me or anyone else has encountered this issue. I sent Tony an email with a video clip showing my issue. I tried to shut them down by unchecking tooltips as I've done before. Anyhow, it isn't a serious issue and I know it will be resolved once the official copy comes out. I just wanted to point it out just in case anyone else was having this issue. Thanks again!😀
You can turn off tooltips by clicking the "TK" button on the main interface of the TK7 Multi-Mask Beta module and unchecking "Show tooltips." If you ever need a tooltip, you can hold down ALT on Windows or "option" on Mac and then rollover buttons to see tooltips again.
By the way, thanks to Tony for the update of the action "before/after"
I think this is one of your most dramatic edits.
Thank you.
Dave, I can't turn off the tool tips in the new color grading beta.
Steve what you need to do is Click on the "TK" Button, which is right below the Color Grading Tool Button on the Multi-Mask Beta Panel. After that simply Uncheck "Show Tool Tips"
Hi Dave! I installed the new action before/after. Using it, PS says : the command "select" is currently not available. Do you have an idea what´s wrong?
I think I know the problem. Go to the first layer and rename it to "Background" and it should work. It is looking for a Layer named Background. Note: Make sure you capitalize the letter B in Background or it won't work.
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly THX, Dave, that is a possible workaround. Is it possible to edit the action itself? I use the German version of PS, the layer is named "Hintergrund", the action command is: Ebene "Background" ausführen. I need: Ebene "Hintergrund" ausführen. By the way, the "old" version works correct.
Hola Dave, estoy probando la nueva accion de Antes y Despues y me sale "the command "select" is currently not available".... he renombrado la capa fondo a Background y funciona pero al volver a pulsar la accion no vuelve a la capa superior. ¿que aconsejas? Muchas Gracias..🤠👍
Did you get the new updated action? It should work.
Before After Action (Updated Version) Drop Box LINK: www.dropbox.com/s/2w69azuh8k23q1i/TK%20Before%20and%20After.atn?dl=0
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Si ya la he instalado , pero no regresa a la capa superior
@@RafaelCornudella I'm not sure what is happening there. It should work. Maybe try it on a different image.
It might be the Spanish version of Photoshop. The new action uses some logic to insert a "conditional" into the action and this logic step might be specific to something in the English language version of Photoshop. I've seen this before where layer and channel names that don't match what Photoshop expects in a certain language can be problematic.
Tried to load TK8 into Photoshop with windows11. It will not load I send problem to Tony, but no reply at this time. I tried loading old and new versions, but no luck. Do you have ideas as to the problem?
I don't know why that is happening. Hopefully Tony will get back to you soon.
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly I went as far removing all adobe apps and creative cloud. After reinstalling creative cloud and photoshop it still didn't work. I haven't heard a thing from Tony, I hope he can help. The last time it worked was with Windows 10.

Hi Dave, thank you for this tutorial with as always a lot of tips, and a big thank you to the developers for the TK8 BETA panel.
Thanks!
Thanks Mario for the Super Thanks.
You are so welcome, Dave as I was going through the notes for this edit I noticed in Step 4. Burn Shadows in the water that you brightened the blue mid tones using the blue channel in the curves layer, but you did not mention it in the edit. I assume it’s just a step you missed talking about, but I think it actually makes a nice difference in the water. Again thank you for the wonderful edit Dave.
@@mariolombardi4766 Mario I checked the notes and I see what you mean. When I was doing the video I overlooked that while I was studying my notes.
