I tried it to remove water spots on my back glass. It was the best thing I have ever tried. I spent a lot of money on water spot removal products and this method was the only thing that delivered real results. Thanks for sharing the information.

Just got my truck back from being painted. And now when it rains my windshield wipers go back and forth I can see that film. Will that clay bar take care of it. I ordered one off eBay. Or will I have to polish the windshield. I just had the windshield replaced. And now it's nasty.
Thanks for the tip. The MSDS for Flitz metal polish shows that it contains 35% aluminum oxide. I've read that aluminum oxide is a cheaper product to polish stones/gems with in a rock tumbler. Cerium oxide (optic grade?) seems to be the go-to product for glass polishing.
I’ve worked in the optics polishing trade for nearly 40 years and you’re right. The preferred medium is rare Earth due to its molecular construction, especially on softer materials. Aluminium Oxide has a sharper construction but is also used for high grade optics (mainly infrared). 👍

Thanks for the tips Scott, I have a problem with neglected windshield that's marred with hard water spots. I've tried steel wool and chemicals and managed to clean most of them but the result is not as clean and shiny as I hoped and there are still some spots that simply won't budge especially ones located on the corners. So to recap and make it easier for me to remember, here's my summary on Scott's glass cleaning tips. If there's anything I miss, please let me know. Can't wait for the weekend to try this out. Materials needed: - Glass cleaner (regular spray type) - Clay bar - Flitz metal polish (paste type) - Flitz buff ball - Power drill - Microfiber towels Step by step to super clean exterior car glass, including hard water spots, fast and easy: 1. Spray glass cleaner onto glass 2. Spray glass cleaner onto claybar to lube it 3. Clay the glass 4. Wipe glass clean and dry with microfiber towel 5. Put small dabs of Flitz metal polish onto glass 6. Smear the dabs with your finger to even them out 7. Attach Flitz buff ball on your power drill 8. Buff the metal polish evenly across the glass (watch video to see how to buff sideways) 9. Once done, wipe the glass clean with dry microfiber towel 10. It's done, enjoy the shine Some thoughts: - I assume any fine metal polish will do since I live overseas and won't be able to get my hands on Flitz metal polish - I assume liquid type metal polish can be used as well - The buff ball is another thing I won't be able to get here, I think I'll try using available buff ball here which is a sponge buff ball.

José Campos you can actually buy cutting pads, it looks like sand paper (because it pretty much is). And you can get some non-deep scratches out. Now I wouldn’t go into it without experience with polishing and wet sanding though. If you don’t know what you’re doing you can screw up the glass beyond repair, and you’ll need to buy new glass anyways.
I have questions. I carry my ladder in my dully an I have scratch my outside windows with the ladder how can I remove that??? It's not like a scratch into the glass more like the paint from the ladder scratch the class. Any ideas how to remove

What about glass that has some scratches on it, like a wiper blade that might have put some shallow scratches on the glass? Is there an option other than replacing the glass?
Glass cleaner lol. I’ve been detailing for 4 years. Never used anything else on the inside unless I was removing old tint. Is there something specific you’re talking about gettin off the glass?

Hello Scott , nice tips . But I have scrape marks because of dust that was stuck between the glass and the felt every time the glass was moved up and down . Could you let me know how to correct that .
well i would start with a product called citrol 266 (could be hard to find) but checkout amazon..after that i would try a clay bar..if those two options don't remove the acid rain stains than i would try to polish them off..you can try putting a compound on a microfiber towel and work over the stains and see if you can remove them..if not you will probably need to use a machine (dual action polisher) with a compound and medium cutting pad...hope that helps my friend:)
Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing I got a spray can today of the citrol 266 it didn't work the clay bar smoothed out the roughness and make it about 10 Percent better and then I used the buffer and tryed the no 7 rubbing compound and Turtle Wax rubbing compound then rubbing polish all together it made the rain stains less noticeable but still there is there any other good rubbing compound or Polish that works better

Watched the video, purchased the ball and product. It easily removed water stains from my windows. My ball was a bit linty. But hoping that goes away after wash.
This was incredibly helpful. I have been doing interior details and it is annoying when I kill myself getting the windows clean on the inside only to have them be stained on the outside (I would clean the outsides, but not polish). Now when they get in, they are impressed by how clean and clear the windshield looks and it doesn't cost me a lot of time.
The Chevy and Chrysler dealerships use fine #0000 steel wool in their detail Departments instead of clay. is steel wool just as good as claybar in your opinion?
yes steel wool is an option for many, I'm not a fan because they shed and you have little pieces of metal all over the place..i just stick to the clay bar

Thanks - I'd never heard of that polish. FWIW, cerium oxide paste works well even by hand. It is really meant for actual glass *correction* and is most certainly abrasive, but it doesn't leave visible scratches, IMHO. It can be bought as a powder and mixed with water, or as a ready made paste. I learnt about it from a professional glass polisher. Obviously when used by hand it's just a strong cleaner - it's not going to remove scratches.

i dont remember where i got it but its a hard water spot remover. comes as a paste ( you mix with a small amount of water ) along with a scotch bright kinda thing and it works very very well.

No. The inside is not exposed to harsh environments and debris and chemicals etc. like the outside is. Glass cleaner should be more than enough on the inside. And don’t forget tint is on the inside as well, so use a compatible cleaner
If client is paying for window polish im not doing this and if they want their glass perfect its going to be with a real polisher it doesn't take much longer to do than this method but the results are way better doing it the right way. Now if it's a free gift to my customer to spruce up their windows yes this is fine. But you can't do this way n say.. "I polished the glass, that'll be an extra 50$" that won't fly
Hi Scott, Some how during my maintenance wash last week I managed to put two small 2in scratches in my windshield. You can only see them at night when there is on coming traffic. You can not catch or feel them with your nails so I know there are very light, but they are still annoying as hell. Can you do a video on how to polish out scratches from glass like this, and is it even possible to remove them? Thanks
Would you suggest doing this on a windshield? I know it's a different type of glass then the door windows. Want to make it so vision is as good as possible when driving.
Ian Champion Because now it would be super clean and clear. Insides sometimes have fog stain, polising it and adding protectant would make it super clear. I have done it and from the inside, it looks like there is no glass between you and the outside 😱

Bar Keepers Friend has always been my favorite glass polishing item. Mildly abrasive but won't scratch.

Alcohol water 50/50 with magic eraser then any window cleaner you feel like. It works.
Is the clay bar really necessary if you are going to polish it anyways?

You can also crack the window down to clay and remove those lines on the edge of window so it looks nice and uniformed . Thanks for the videos

No. A clay bar polishes the surface and takes any imperfections out for a smooth flat surface.

You need a spray oil like wd40 that is designed to stick.
Yes but spraying silicone into rubbers and felts will keep it lubricated and smooth

Defrost wires are never on the outside. Either on the inside, or between layers of glass

If client is paying for window polish im not doing this and if they want their glass perfect its going to be with a real polisher it doesn't take much longer to do than this method but the results are way better doing it the right way. Now if it's a free gift to my customer to spruce up their windows yes this is fine. But you can't do this way n say.. "I polished the glass, that'll be an extra 50$" that won't fly

Hi Scott, Some how during my maintenance wash last week I managed to put two small 2in scratches in my windshield. You can only see them at night when there is on coming traffic. You can not catch or feel them with your nails so I know there are very light, but they are still annoying as hell. Can you do a video on how to polish out scratches from glass like this, and is it even possible to remove them?

Ian Champion Because now it would be super clean and clear. Insides sometimes have fog stain, polising it and adding protectant would make it super clear. I have done it and from the inside, it looks like there is no glass between you and the outside 😱

Vinegar water is great. Even glass cleaner works well. Just stay away from anything with ammonia in it

You can't use anything abrasive on window tint at all
