30 seconds I will never get back.
🤣
That's why I don't do it.
That moment when you get home and realize you need to spend eight hours rebag and board everything you bought from the flea market.
But that's the best part!
If you're a fan who likes the stories and art but just enjoy comics without an eye to collecting, do whatever you want because it doesn't matter. Unfortunately, these days many "collectors" are looking for a fast flip and buy on spec to make money. So ultimately, do what YOU want.
I do not want to flip my comics, I do spend quite a bit for back issues. If you’re the same do you want to protect what you spent your hard earned money on or throw it in a drawer and let it get ruined. Yes, do what you want.
@@TheNERDWay1 Digital comics dog.
@TheNERDWay1 you have a nasty crappy attitude!
Yes, comics should be enjoyed. All my comics are alphabetized in short boxes. None of them in bags or boards. They are ready to READ whenever I want to. They are for me. The artwork and story do not evaporate or get damaged.
One thing I really love about comics is rereading them, so I like them accessible.
If I bought old comics at premium prices, I'd probably keep them in the bag and board they came in, and never read them.
But almost all my comics were bought at cover price.
I'll buy some back issues, most of them at $2 to $4, so the same or less than a new comic.
Hmmm, I have a few comics I didn't like. I bagged and boarded them in case they become valuable and I can resell them. Since I don't plan on rereading those, accessibility isn't an issue.
@TheNERDWay1 "ruined" aka a slight discoloration maybe some crunples for non collectors this isn't a big deal at all for people who just like reading the story this is fine.
Hahaha the pointing and say “No” “Yes” was great.
I inherited my father's collection after he passed when I was a kid in 98. It wasn't a large collection, maybe filled two USPS priority mail boxes but all of them just had a bag and no backing. First thing I did was get them transferred to better bags and added the backing.
@Raymond Frederick what i love is when someone buys some random cheap 10 dollar comic off my ebay then leaves me a negative feedback because "it had a spine tick and i planned on getting it graded" lmao. These poor ppl these days have really been duped into believing they should grade anything
Long as you enjoy the story. Thats the important part.
He’s gonna be so mad when he see’s that I don’t even bag em’
I want to store my comics right but I don’t have the money now when I am starting of mine collection 😅
I must confess. Just started collecting comics and I’ve been using the method on the left because I’m so broke lol. Reusing the homework folders and binders until I manage to get some bags and boards 😔
The binders are a good way to temporarily keep them safe. The guy I bought these from call himself a serious collector.
@@TheNERDWay1 Just came back to inform you that I’ve finally switched to bags and boards. 😎 WOOT *WOOOT!!*
@@frogartti You’ll be happier in the long run. Especially if you’re planning to sell them in the future. 👍🏻
Wow! The joys of poverty! The only time I got back boards, was when the comic book store sold them, with the comics.
@@carlosnievas1220 Lol poverty and student debt WOOT *WOOT!!*
Bro sounds like someone trying to tell their kid what to do and what not to do
This is a principle level attitude 😅
And keep them away from direct sunlight!
Exactly. Good point.
New to comic book collecting, why sunlight bad? Just a question, actually curious!
@@seductiveraven4895I believe it can drain the color and change it, just with leaving plastic outside, the colors may change on the book itself.
@@Patmations21 So no leaving them in plastic near sunlight, got it!
@@seductiveraven4895 fades the color, makes the pages fragile, and depending on the sleeve, the plastic can melt to the cover.
So I just got into comic books almost a year ago. I knew about the plastic sleeves. But I only knew about the boarding from one comic book store owner who would bag and board my purchases. Now I’m gonna invest in the boards to make sure they last.
That’s always weird when I see comics in bags but no boards.
Especially in those 3 ring binder sleeves. It’s like using a rubber band to keep your baseball cards together.
Feels sinful
Its certainly a better way to do it but people can store and collect things however they want
Man I bought a few Bronze Age classics on eBay recently & one of the sellers sent me a Devil Dinosaur #1 & #8 in a Ziplock bag, taped inside of a Gemini mailer they cut in half & folded around the Ziplock, then stuffed THAT inside of one of those plastic Media Mail bags to ship it to me. Needless to say those books looked great in the photos but by the time they got to my mailbox (2 weeks later, mind you), even after careful cleaning, humidification & pressing neither book will ever get a grade above 6.5, maybe 7.0 if I'm lucky & CGC goes easy on them.
Graded about 20 bucks. Ungraded 1-15 bucks. Not missing anything see it in the dollar bin alot though
@@justinconn1214it's been a year since that comment & while I do see the whole Devil Dinosaur series, graded, sell singly on eBay (an issue here, an issue there) or sets raw on eBay & HipComic, I still _never_ see them locally. It's been ages since I saw an issue of Devil Dinosaur in any shop nearby (DelMarVa region) but I'm no longer interested in grading & selling anyway. I'm mostly raw for the PC anymore, the graded book market is too unstable, inconsistent, & volatile.
You work with what you have. As a kid out in the hills of Virginia on the wva border I didn't even know where to get bags and boards!!
Don’t have your nice comics dangling half off the edge of the desk you monster! 😂
Damn, it's 2022. Do people not know this still? Lol
Unfortunately, no.
The liberty legion one😳
When I 1st started collecting I put my comics in a shoebox and zip lock bags. I eventually got them bag and boarded and put in actual long boxes
Bag and Board is the only way to go. Every time I buy a new comic book I read it and then immediately Bag and Board it.
I have a box that I put them in that is locked and free of dust
I did worse with my given comic books when I was younger. Threw them in a bag.
The covers and back covers are gone for most.
And now my recently purchased Dv8 collection just sits in the box they came in. Some having a individual bag and backing.
Should probably put my issue of Wetworks in there.
Just picked up a ton of comics. I dunno if I can even count em all...found myself searching for these and then saw this haha
I’m getting sleeves cause that’s how they used to be contained.
Yea sleeves are a must if you really love and collect comics? Because without a sleeve and back board it will make your comics get warps folds etc especially of stacked. So sleeves and boards are a must. I also have used them no matter the comics value. Even if it's a 1 dollar comic? Sleeves and board always.
If you want to resell yes but how people keep their collections is up to them 🤷♂️
Do you any good websites to get comics that are legit and did you get your comics backed then when they first released or do you search for them on a website
That green swastika guy caught me completely off guard
It physically hurts me to see comic with no bords
Unless you collect 2000ad, then the poly pocket is a great method.
I usually grab another board, write the description on the non glossy area to what the comic is. Slip that board in front of the comic. Basically a comicbook sandwich. Cause you can crease the stapled part of the book if you grab the bagged comic
Hey i got my hands on like 200 old comics in plastic alot of them are from the 70s and 80s. Any tips on how to find the value and sell them? Or should i hold into them?
Not your comics, not your choice.
No. It is my choice. I chose to protect my comics. If other people want to destroy their comics, so be it.
@@TheNERDWay1 No. If you buy comics from someone else you don't get to dictate how they have kept them. Got it, punk?
@@TheNERDWay1 good point my man!
Bag & board is to protect comics of value...1970 U collect for fun? Now everything needs to be like this.It has value.
@@williammclean3090 it kinda sounds like you’re telling me because I collect for the fun of it that I shouldn’t bag and board my comics. Is that right? Your comment is very difficult to understand.
As someone who's not a huge comic nerd, I can't relate. But I do understand that you should always keep something in a neat pile in clean condition.
I mean, some people keep them out of the bags, which is fine, in fact I do it sometimes (though most of the time I use the bags), you just gotta make sure they're shelved right to keep them in proper condition.
It's always been popular among collectors to use binders. I've found many nice copies stored like that. The key is to stack the binders flat, in alternating directions so the comics lay flat
Lately they dont seem to sell them with the boards… when i bought them ..
Where can I buy those to protect my comics? I bought some from the swap meet but they didn’t come with the bag thing 😞
I get my bags and boards from Amazon. Here’s a link to the ones I use.
100 BCW Current Comic Boards and Bags a.co/d/1TLtZWZ
I did this with a bunch of Archie sonic comics a couple years ago (countdown to chaos with the 4 covers made to make a cool scene and a couple issues before and after)My very first thin paper back comics❤. my dumb 12 year old mind sadly noticed a little too late that that was a bad idea and threw them in the garbage the same day the truck came to pick it up😢 I still have them (the comics) and after that I always make sure to not through random stuff away without making sure
A word of advice. Always keep comics fresh and safe. Bag and Board is all you need.
Wait, which one was good again?
I know. I should have been a little more clear.
I'd have to get 30,000 backing boards, and another 80 boxers, and a bigger fuckling house
This is one of my top favorite shorts! No…. Yes… No… Yes
I don't even do it wrong and I had my tail tucked 😂😂 though I'm always down for a "Do I keep my X-Factor #1 in the polybag?" conversation 😅
An old I met this spring got into double boarding my comics.
I've spent years debating the best way to seal bags. Do most of you guys just go with a small strip of scotch tape? I hate the fear of the dreaded tape pull, but also when it splits at the opening and you gotta decide if you'll pull off the remainder or just stick a new piece over it.
I use resealable bags now, but before that I used painters tape. It stuck well enough to keep the bag closed and you could pull it out and reuse it.
Good’ol binder sleeves. Whenever I see those, I just walk away. 😅
I purchased my comics from a local non chain grocery store called "M Rivas" in Donna Texas. All of my books went into a sheet protector, the grocery store didn't stock bags n boards(at that time i didnt know B&B existed) , another reason why newstand comics are hard to find in top shape. Obviously now all of my books are in B&B. If you find comics that are stored in sheet protectors it might well be that they didn't have access to B&B. And those books might belong to original owner. Food for thought.
Man when I got the baddies over they always ask why my complete Muppet babies run looks so nice and I say... BnB's Baby!
Do you prefer the modern age bags and board over silver age? If so, why? And is there a specific reason why one would be better than the other?
I collect a lot of modern age comics so I use the modern bags and boards. The silver age comics are a little wider so the silver age bags and boards give the comic more room where it needs it. I have come across some modern bags that a bit bigger than they need to be. They still work but I found the comic moves around more. That can cause the ends to get banged up.
Great video I really wanna get into the Vader comics but don’t know where to read them
Lots of old collections were unbagged and boarded for years. As long as they're kept in a box that's snug, they're fine
That's every antique store you go to, and most online sellers that don't normally sell comics.
I mean as long as your treating em well with what you have available then im not that fussed. Obviously there is better ways to keep them safe, but as long as they aint just left unbagged in any sense and left just lying around im happy.
Yesterday was my first official day of reading comics. My first series is Dceased, I read 3 in one day. Where can I buy the “Yes” category covers from?
You can probably find them at your local comic shop or eBay. Congratulations on joining the comic book community.
“Bags and boards” were mainly thing starting in the 90s, yes, some people did this themselves, but mainly it was bags, and only really into the 70s. It’s not surprising to find 70s and 80s books only in bags
I was at an antique store today and someone had those same bags on their comics lol. They also had ridiculous prices. $32. For a Cool Aid Man comic?
I love how he just has a Captain America.Original copy just in the way you don't package comics
The ones without the boards give me anxiety
Me too.
I bought Cable #97, #98, and #99. All from the same guy. Only 97 was in a bag without a board and I was so disappointed.
I use them as a coaster. Especially my Spiderman #300
Nah jit really almost said bad dog at the end
I couldn't acquire bags and boards, so I used zip lock bags 😔
The biggest concern with comics storing is protecting the spine and the corners. That's what the board is for. You can use cereal boxes cut to shape. Just use a real board for the guide. You could possibly get 4 boards out of a cereal box depending on the size.
@@ScoutReaper-zn1rz Thanks for the suggestion, but I don’t eat cereal.
Does it matter how many backing boards I add per bag?
One will do.
What are they exactly called? So I know where to get them. Thanks
They’re called bags and boards. Your local comic shop should have them. If not Amazon or BCW. That’s the brand I use.
How to refurbish old comic books
I got a couple from a garage sale. It was used alot. But not all bad. Some are worst than others. How can i restore them.
There are people who know how to clean up old comics, unfortunately I’m not one of them. You can find ways to do it here on UA-cam. I’ve seen lots of informative videos on how to do it but I can’t recall any in particular.
Oh okay sir need educational video for non comic nerds🤪🤣🤣🤣
I’m working on it.
It’s more like a PSA announcement 😅
If you want to but your comics in a binder put them in bags + boards in one of those 3 ring binder paper protectors
That will work.
Honestly isnt this really an argument over an older method vs a modern one?
He sounds like doctor sturgis from young sheldon
Looks like every thrift shop and antique store that you find. lol
Bro how did u get those old classics to collect them do you read them
I found them on Facebook marketplace. I do read them. That’s why I collect them. I love reading the older books from the 60’-90’s.
Wow, you have a lot of comics, the price of comics is expensive for us
That’s years worth of collecting.
The contrarian in me wants to unbag and unboard all of my comics 😂
Ich started after over 15-20 yrs again with comics. Where do i get those bags?
Your local comic book store or Amazon.
@@TheNERDWay1 thanks you:)
I have a question I have some old comic books but they say there were display only are they not worth anything
Without seeing them, I don’t know. What are they?
Roll them in a rubber band so they dont slide around in the pouch
Newbie here, do you ever take them out of the bag to read them or what?
Yes. I absolutely take them out to read them from time to time.
I get alot of my comics from this place called Comics n stuff and they have most of them with boards.
I thought that was standard practice 🤔
The plastic sleeves are better than nothing.
I do not have to use any of those for my comics because they are hard covers and they’re very shiny because I take care of them every day
Wow, so bag and board your comics. Thanks for the feedback, you just revolutionized the comic book industry.
I use Mylar and Acid free backing boards for all my Golden Age back issues, for my modern ones, Not all that much I’m afraid. 🤗
The ones in bags are the most saturated thing I’ve ever seen
If it has a pic in bottom left hand corner it is a reprint and worthless unless it has a barcode. And that's comic tip 2 .
A picture in the corner is from a direct edition comic from a comic store. A barcode is from newsstand edition. If you knew anything about comics, you would realize that. Thanks for showing everyone your stupidity. Keep your idiot tips to yourself.
I know, it's already been a year since you uploaded this short, but may I ask you something?
Are the comics in A4 format?
I’m pretty sure most modern comics are in the A4 format. Silver age comics are a bit bigger and Marvel even printed some in magazine size back in the day.
@@TheNERDWay1 Okay! Thank you so much!
@@Jurassic_Multiverse you’re welcome. Glad I could help.
Dude I just read them😭😭😭
I guess it's okay to board them...But if you've collected Over the years you might not have bagged them... And some people have over 5,0000 books
Am I the only one who collects comics cuz I like reading them and the vibe
That’s why I do it.
Mine are all stacked in a pile of old pizza boxes
How can anyone not be capable of taking care of comic books. Haha
How do you seal the bag?
Tape. Or you can get self sealing bags.
I'm wondering who still uses a three hole puncher.
Very nice
Bro would you prefer it not in the plastic sleeve at all? OCD much
honestly dont even see a difference, the bad one has a bigger bag? ( i read comics digitally 24/7 so)
Baptism of fire
True, but the books on the left look like a collector who just didn't have the money for bags and boards. I had to become an adult with a real job before i could afford to properly care for my books.
Should I tell him I don’t even have mine in bags
I still have some in the bag from my local comic shop. I’ll read them first then bag them up.
