martin duffy Many American Doctors are extremely ignorant and naive to the powerful, physical addictiveness of bzps. (is "addictiveness" a word??? If not, it should be!!!) When I decided to taper off of a 3-4 year, daily 80-120 mgs of Diazepam or equivalent, I researched the taper process from that Dr.Ashton in the U.K., made an outline for the taper plan, and gave it to my Dr. He ask me to describe the wds and he was surprised that it was so bad. I had withdrawn from heroin and methadone several times, but the 2-3 days of benzo withdrawal was much worse! I've made it thru heroin detox a half dozen or more times, but not valium! It took 13 months to taper and I had absolutely no wds and felt fine during the entire 13 months. U.S. Doctors need more education about Benzos! I guess they underestimate it because of it's Schedule IV status, which is very misleading.
You better believe it, because these Patients trusted those Devils, and now I have lost three friends who would rather commit Suicide then walk through this Fire of hell, who got caught in this TRAP..Doctors=Devils
You are a breath of fresh air, and a ray of light in the darkness of benzo withdrawal. I cant tell you how wonderful it is to see a bright smiling face discussing this topic and guiding people through a community usually filled with negative, desperate, and hopeless forums and videos (not that its their fault). I am unfortunately not a stranger to benzo withdrawal over the years of dealing with my GP. But seeing your videos reassures me that it will get better and the strength to assure this will be the last time I am dependent on a pharmaceutical. It is clear as day your kind heart and good soul. Keep up the great work. Best wishes to you and your family!
Please don’t get tired of me thanking you. It is sincere, heartfelt, and providing me with information and tools for my healing. You make a huge difference . 🙏🏽☝🏽🌹
Not fun at all. I got off cold turkey through a medical detox program and the first couple days is a living hell but now I’m feeling better every day. I’m thinking the taper method is better if you’re not in a hospital setting but it prolongs your agony. I took Ativan every night for years but now I’m free.
xanax is basically banned in Australia. Its an S8 medication which means it’s basically impossible to get thank god for that! It seems to be useful for 3 days then your tolerance grows, your addiction grows and suddenly you’re up the creek. I got addicted in the 90s. Had a bottle of 2mg x 100!! After a month of light use it became apparent that my anxiety was worse than ever. I only took them initially because my separation from a terrible person was very stressful! I had never really had anxiety before. I know what anxiety feels like, everyone gets it sometimes, but normally I didn’t suffer from it. Xanax actually gave me anxiety. So to fix the problem I dissolved 15 tablets in 60 ml of water in a bottle.. then I would dispense myself 2ml of the preparation at night time and top it up with freshwater each time and leave it in the fridge. That’s only one milligram and every time you have it afterwards it’s dosage is decreasing in a inversely proportional taper - painless. Worked like a treat. You just have to remove any temptation of taking Xanax when you are a little bit pissed off or upset. I threw them in the toilet- devil’s brew! I am glad that XANAX and is banned in Australia because I can see the problem caused overseas by its continual dispensing.
You are just amazing. ☺ Your spirit of positivity and heartwarming smiles are such encouraging qualities on an issue that can be hard to find much in regards to encouragement oftentimes. Thank You for the Great Work you are doing for everyone in this terrible situation, as well as those who may love someone whom is afflicted.
I guess every detox center, clinic or hospital is different in the way the treat their patients. With me after taking Klonopin for 15 years, at a psychiatric unit in a hospital they made me stop talking in one week and if I you get sick they don't let you leave and just watch your suffering. After that they tell you to deal with it! Better off do it at home. New Jersey.
Ursula Martins I live in the deleware valley and have been on klonopin 15 years. My inlaws are basically pushing me into detox. I have been taking as prescibed the intire 15 years. I am horrified at the thought of going to a detox center! But, I feel that if i do not go they will take my child from me. Is there a center that you have heard of that is any better than the others, even in the smallest way?
Precisely why I didn’t check in anywhere. They simply cut off everything and give you fluids in an IV. No way. If I am going to suffer I must stay home. It’s a real fear.
Great to hear from you again and great video! I agree it's very helpfull to join online support groups, it so good to talk to people who know what you are going through and share experiences! I hope you are doing well ❤
A lot of therapists have to be clued in, too. A lot of them should be our first line of defense, and they are often not. I was told by one to take an extra dose to go to an anxiety treatment group, while in the midst of the taper. I've also seen therapists on youtube recommending benzodiazepines for agoraphobia, without realizing that they often cause agoraphobia in people who never had it befoe. Also, some of the mental health professionals need to understand that heavy exposure therapy isn't exactly recommended when coming off these meds. The worst comment a therapist can make is "hey, so-and-so is so anxious that he/she needs to be on this many milligrams of Klonopin a day." Good way to take away hope from people.
You are so right about that. I was a social butterfly. Not anymore. My doctor retired and I stopped getting mine last week. It has been a rough last few days. It hurts my whole body just to type this.
Is it like a "python squeeze" kind of feeling or the one of getting electric jolts and nerve pain.... I go to this list a lot: benzosupport.org/my_symptoms.htm
This is a really good comment. It seems like some doctors and therapists have NO clue, and prescribe things that end up doing their patients harm. It's incredible!
This point ☝️ I have nothing but ignorance from health care ' professional s' twice screwed over by Psychs - 1 being recent, past being blackmailed. These so called professional s NEED to be educated on this topic properly. 👍
You are a great person for educating people about this serious serious problem. The issue with confronting doctors, is that many of them cant swollow their pride and get offended. Sorry for the 5. grade english :-D
great helpful information regarding a problem which now is common and widespread only people are reluctant to bring up the subject, i am an MD and urge those to join support groups, you are not alone, new subscriber ,keep these vds coming ,thank you !
This is totally my life right now. I walked into a psychiatrist office at 16, and was prescribed klonopin and became a literal zombie. I completely stopped taking it after a few months, and had no idea what was happening to me. I truly thought I was going crazy- I wasn’t educated on the drug and the consequences of not taking it anymore so I was clueless that this was even the issue. He than put me on Xanax, and I was way too forgetful, didn’t even remember my day looking back on the days past- granted I was on 0.5mg; I did not want to live that way. After trying many many different SSRI’s and SNRI’s; none of them helped. Than switched to Ativan, the only thing that worked. Now, I suddenly am being told I have to taper within a month time frame. It’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It was the only thing that helped me face everyday life without overwhelming anxiety. I’ve told my doctor that I should have been more educated before being put on this drug, and I shouldn’t be feeling like I’m being punished for following what my doctor told me to do to feel better. I sense zero sympathy when explaining this as it’s just brushed off. They want me to take Paxil for long term treatment of anxiety, and taper off the Ativan within the month. I’m at the point now where I refuse to take any other medication because now I have severe anxiety of being in this situation all over again, because just like they told me years ago that this was a safe route- you’re saying the same thing now- why should I trust what you’re saying? it’s unfair all around, but more importantly it’s unsafe, they truly need to understand that we don’t WANT to be on these drugs, we just want to feel better, and when you’re doctor tells you something, you believe them, and trust that they have your best interest- I no longer feel that way what so ever.
I'm sorry. That's a hard lesson learned. I know. But a good one. We all need to learn to stop placing our faith and trust in these corrupt, broken systems. Eventually you will learn you have more power than you thought and that will be worth the suffering. Keep going
I sincerely hope you went and found a new Dr. Yours shows no empathy and is just cruel, punishing u over his hang-ups he may have with benzos. These days it's all klonopin, every shrink thinks it's safer than say, Xanax which i was on for many years b4 being forced on klonopin. Now i take it to not be sick more so than to cure anxiety as it's not effective like the xanax was. In fact, i was far more comfortable leaving my house and my agoraphobia is 10 x worse on klonopin than on xanax. SUDDENLY XANAX IS THE U.S.A.'n NEW OXY TO GO AFTER AS FAR AS NOT PRESCRIBING IT ANYMORE. Eventually they may attack all benzos like tbey did with opiates which totally doubled heroin/fentanyl use by cutting off the tap or flow with no wean. 1000s of people forced to cold turkey. (Imagine the DEA going after benzos next. I doubt they even care that their policies already created 1000s more illicit drug addicts.)
I’ve been on xanex for probably 20 years at first it was just as needed but my GAD and panic disorder got progressively worse so I went from 3mg a day and I started to taper down for awhile I was down to 1.5 but now back to 2mg a day. I went to a rehab facility for alcohol but I was also taken off the xanex by day 3 I thought I was going to die all of the withdrawal symptoms were terrible and the rehab facility put me on a regimen of all these different sike meds I came out of there like a zombie I could barely talk without mumbling I could keep my thoughts together it was horrible. I only lasted 2weeks I’m really reaching out to see if there is a safe way to taper slowly because this is like prison in my own body. Thank you so much for this video and kind words🙏
Hello thanks for reaching out. There is definitely a better less painful way to taper than what you experienced . What they did was wrong. I'm sorry. Here is my tapering playlist. Please watch until you understand. Once you do you will know more about benzo withdrawal than 99.9% of doctors and will be able to develop an appropriate taper plan customized to you ua-cam.com/play/PLiYfSj-zJmteBF9Zi99liC3H-PxzB2NkP.html
@@BenzoBrains Any legal options for continuity of care? Like Dr. Ashton wrote, NO ONE SHOULD BE FORCED OFF OF BENZODIANIZPINES!. The head of the federal Substance Abuse and and Mental Health Services Administration, Pamela S. Hyde, discuses the dangers of abuse of benzodiazepines, but she stated, "THEY ARE SAFE AND EFFECCTVIE TAKEN AS PRESCRUBED." Google "Sedative Absue Sends More Patients to Emergency Department."
I've been on xnnax for 11 years. I got a new doctor, and he continued to prescribe them, i took them as I was soupose to now out of nowhere he is planning to stop them cold turkey on me no taper telling me to go to another doctor to taper off of them knowing he was the one that had prescribed them since 2021 I'm Extremely worried about coming off of them like this. I went 3 days off of them and had a seizure from it. I'm lost here and I feel this is strongy medical malpractice
If your doctor didn't give you any informed consent about problems coming off cold turkey and side effects then, depending on the state, you may have a case for malpractice
@@BenzoBrains According to all the literature, Benzos are meant to be prescribed for only two to four weeks. If your doctor has put you on benzos for longer, it is a definite case of malpractice.
Unacceptable. I had a grand mal seizure as a result of someone stealing my newly filled prescription. Doctors must start taking liability. You can TAPER but DO NOT SUDDENLY DISCONTINUE A PATIENT 'S BENZODIAZEPINE PRESCRIPTION!!! If I had died, if i do die...Doctor is responsible for not tapering correctly. Bottom line.
it just happened to me, 36 years on diazepam and I got drunk went ER to withdrawal they flat out refused to treat me with diazapam as they always do for withdrawals .. they admitted me, refused to give me my diazepam I almost coded. Blood preasure was climbing way in to the red zone, heart rate 130. They gave me beta blocker IVs, but refused to give me diazepam 4th day hyperventilation and losing my mind. I finally escaped got home and had my diazapam and got normalized. After since my doc retired I been to 5 doctors that flat out refused to give me refills. I have been a die hard Trump supporter but now won't vote for him. If I was a heroin addict I could go get free works and daily methadone. Something is very wrong with this. It is pharmaceutical companies $$$ 90 Rx diazapam $10.00, 90 of these new designer drugs ssri's they are pushing $500.00, this is why they don't care people dying cold turkey cutting benzos. And the people dying with cancer and broken backs are now being denied opioids morphine etc. this is so evil it is satanic. People need to make noise about this before more people suffer. Spread the word and make more suffering people aware we need to unite our voices while there is still time.. God bless... Are there any class action lawsuits going on for patients that truly need help against this horrible thing the medical people and govt are doing to people really suffering??? Any suggestions would be helpful!
@@davidbento9459 that is terrifying. And why I refuse to ever go to the ER.. if I can. And stock pile /hoard meds in case I get cut off. I'm still terrified
Your channel has helped me so much with my Bromazepam withdrawal. Thanks to you I have found Ashton manual and followed instructions there. I have managed to get Valium recipe and did withdrawal schedule on my own, after reading what professor Ashton instructioned. Thank for your honesty in every one of your videos
MY Dr, (psychiatrist) literally just said to me, "I can't do this anymore ". JUST before sending me to a different doc to oversee my taper.(frustrating).
t's not banned in Australia, it has to be prescribe by a registered Psychiatrist. The problem in Australia now it that there are thousands upon thousands of legitimate patients who were prescribed this medication but have it abruptly stopped because their GP cannot prescribe it nor to they have the ability to refer their patients to a provider who can continue to prescribe their legitimate medication. These people are not addicts, they are patients who where prescribed a medication to help with anxiety or sleep but have now been dumped because of changes implemented by Government. I totally agree with the changes but there must be pathways put in place for patients who are already on this medication so that they are not put in the very dangerous place of abrupt benzo withdrawal. The other problem is getting into see a psychiatrist and or a psychologist (6 to 12 months wait). I hope you heal and wish you well.
That's because in order to get to be a doctor, someone has to be in remarkably good health. How many young doctors with a chronic illness have you ever known?
I have been taking Klonopin for 20 years since I was 18, the doctor I have now doesn’t understand that. I’m pretty sure she never experienced the withdrawal symptoms herself or she wouldn’t treat it like I’m just asking for drugs. As I write this I am actually afraid for my life. I will keep watching your videos. If I could give advice to a young person who is suffering from insomnia or anxiety like I was when I began this sad Odyssey when I was 18… I’d tell all young persons that if they’re experiencing anxiety, my advice would be please don’t go to the doctor. Yup. I wish I had done anything else to get rid of my anxiety, it’s completely ruined my life, and I don’t know if I will ever have it back.
I am 53 and feel the same way. My doctor switched me last month from celexa to lexa pro and tomorrow she plans on changing my over 20 years on xanax to valium and the taper that. I am. Very frightened.
@@birdofparadise9436 things were much worse when I wrote that comment. I think I went around 90 days of close to no sleep. It would be like maybe and hour or two every three days... I eventually got my sleep back but still am affected by this nearly every second of every day.
My pcp who is a nurse practitioner decided to completely cut me off Klonopin. I have been taking 0.5MG Klonopin since I was 16 for PTSD/Panic Disorder. He gave me a psych referral and didn’t even off a taper. I do not abuse this medication but my body is now dependent from taking it for so many years. Is it legal to be cut off a Benzodiazepine? Is that considered medical negligence? I am so terrified.
My new doctor has refused to call in my .05 Alprazolam. I have been taking I mil 4x a day for 40 years. I was then cut to .05 2x’s a day for the last year. He now will not fill my prescription. I am panicked. I’ve already had 2 heart attacks n the lose of my husband. I cannot just get cut off COMPLETELY. Is there a legal recourse I can take?
Yes benzoinfo.com may be able to direct you yo legal counsel. I'm so sorry. Meanwhile if you can find any other prescriber try and do this. Also a functional medicine or integrative practitioner may help you to stabilize a bit better
My doctor wants me off within 4 months , I’m down 1.5 mg alprazolam to 1 one month . Headaches and nerves the worse , how bad and how long should I take? I’ve been on alprazolam 12 years
I have been tapered off of Klonopin 3 years ago and suffered in bed for almost every day and now on Xanax and finally up and doing more every day. I am having exactly what you are talking about with doctors. I have been on them for over 30 years except for 3 years I mentioned. I will do whatever I have to do not to feel ever again so I hope they find a different drug that can help me.
What about Tezmapam?a family member on for 15 years and forced to choose between sleep med and pain med with a rare painful disease. Doc said there should be no withdrawal. Whatttt?? Family member now off 4 days legs jerking ,sweat pouring. What to do???
Oh geez sorry I didn't see this until now! Temazepam is a benzo. The best practice is to get back on, hopefully stabilize and then do a slow taper. Since it's so short acting you may need to dose throughout the day too if they become really severe. Please see my tapering playlist for more information on this.
@@BenzoBrains i wish it was that easy. His doc made him choose between the pain meds he needs as he has a rare painful disease called arachnoiditis and the sleep meds. She will not prescribe both anymore. I told her what a hard a time he is having ,she insists tezmapam is not typically tapered .
Ex nurse practioner decided to randomly cut me off and 4 years later im still anhedonic & mentally disabled beyond belief. I was cut from 3.5/clonzepam a day to 0. I was hospitalized for dehydartion and psychosis, drs thought i was skitzo, gave me psych meds & i was unable to talk at all.. so i couldnt even tell them what was going on.. psych meds made it worse. If you must rely on another medication during taper or withdrawal, i only suggest gabapentin and clonidine but it may not work for everyone.. tapering is really important.. and even times where i followed my tapers (some took years, btw) i get hospitalized or arrested.. bc i get so sick & crazy & dependent on them. However there still is a huge difference tapering vs cold turkey. Pls dont cold turkey at high doses. Hallucinations, crazy probs.. ive been anhedonic for 4 years since my first benzo cold turkey.. perm damage.. avoid @ all costs!
I know how you feel,my Dr cut me off,330 mg of Morphine, and 25 mg of valium after giving me the dose's for 10 year's this was a day, I have never been so messed up in my life, its going on 18 months now, it's the most terrifying nightmare I've ever had to endure, but I have hope, but not my youth 73 years young, every day is a big battle to keep fighting, GOD BLESS ALL THE PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING THROUGH BENZOS WITHDRAWALS, GIVE US ALL STRENGTH TO GET BACK TO NORMAL.
Thank you for doing these videos and sharing your experiences. I was on hydroxyzine hcl 50mg once a day and alprazolam. 05 3 times a day but I would only take it twice a day of March of this year 3 months ago I went to taking alprazolam once a day with the hydroxyzine but now its been 4 days without the hydroxyzine and I get a little anxiety but I say it's better than before. I want to take 1/2 of the alprazolam but nervous doing so. My body is achy and my head a bit foggy the things that I enjoyed before I got sick I no longer enjoy them now . All I want is my life back . Once I get off the alprazolam I never want to go back to them ever.
What a luxury to have an advocate. And how do you manage To get to a library to print out this manual with no help or cognitive function and ability to even remember how to speak .. to do all this. I am tapering and in derealization .. depersonalization.. akasthesia . Thry will first of all right away say no no way, if one is even capable of getting there. Or remember or know how to even follow the manual. Ex. If you are in a severe state as Lucinda. .. how do you manage to do all this which requires being able to function.
You don't have to print out or even read the manual. That's why i made my Ashton Manual video series. I break it down in chunks so people can understand it. An advocate is only one piece of the pie. If you have no friends or neighbors, you have me and the doctors at benzoreform.org advocating for you. If you have a smart phone or your doctor has a smart phone you can direct him/her to my videos including my interview with Dr. Wright from benzoreform entitled "what do doctors need to know?". Email them these links ahead of time along with benzo.org.uk/manual. Lucinda and I are friends and i know what it's like to be that bad. That's why we're working on a new manual/workbook for patients and doctors that will help you and your doctor work together to develop a taper plan.
I took 0.5mg once daily of Xanax since 2003. In 2013 I tapered down to 0.25mg once daily, and it took about a month. I'm now a couple of weeks into trying to get the fuck off of this shit for good, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be able to hold at .125mg once daily within a day or two, if I'm not already there now. Today's been rough though. I just took my 'daily dose' of .125mg, but withdrawal hit me pretty hard today. Hopefully the symptoms abate enough so that I don't feel the need to talk another dose. I'm trying to do this as pragmatically as possible, yet at my own pace. I'm lucky I've got a cool, understanding doctor to see me along in this process, but goddamn is it hard some days. I'm pretty determined though.
I have found a new psychiatrist who seems to be alot more informed about co-occuring dissorders. I have learned so much from him and you in just a few months. He wants me to taper at 10% a month. And try to use gabapentin to help? I dont want to get stuck on another med but is this good advice? I dont know much about gabapentin and he said to try 100 mg at first...bc my nervous system is super sensitive to all drugs even just negative emotion. This is a full time job...really relearning HOW TO LIVE LIFE LIKE THIS. ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL. IT WILL MAKE LIFE WORSE. good luck everyone. 😀👌
10% is good if you can tolerate it. If not I hope your doctor will be flexible and allow you to adjust your rate as needed. Some people find Gabapentin helps but then that is another drug you will have to carefully taper.
@@BenzoBrains I was prescribed Venlafaxine when Doc's all refuse to refill my Valium after my doc retired after 36 years,, Dear God I researched Venlafaxine and Holly Mollie It has a withdrawal and sides even worse then Benzos! It seems all about the money. Valium is dirt cheap like $8.00 a 90 refill. These new designer SSRIs and SSNIs are like some are $500.00 I read.. The big pharmaceutical companies don't care if people die or suffer they are all about the money! May they rot~ No way will I take SSRI.. Tardive Dyskonisia among other exotic disabilities from them! Something needs to be done!
Interestingly, where I live, the dangers of Xanax have been talked about since the 90's. Most people avoided it due to it's bad reputation. However, very little was done, State-wise to alert people of the dangers of bzd's like Ativan and Klonopin.
Now klonopin is the bad benzo, but ive been taking it for seizures for 13 years so i probobly wont ever have any trouble. They were late calling it in one time had a seizure went to the er and my medecine was at my pharmacy the next day.
I wake up every morning so anxious I often throw up. I took Clonazepam as needed for almost 10 years. At some points, daily use was necessary. At others, it wasn’t. I had several years I was on no drugs at all. But now that my anxiety is getting worse, I realize no one wants to prescribe me the ‘miracle drug’ that got me through my early twenties panic attacks. I feel like begging the doctor to please help me and prescribe me the clonazepam because NOTHING I have ever been prescribed works the same. They’re putting me on all these bipolar medications and hYdroxyzine (which has been useless) and I’ve lost 30 pounds from not being able to eat or function. Once you’ve been subjected to benzodiazepines does ANYTHING else even work? Losing hope.
@KristineDeAnna only a benzo will affect the receptors that have been altered by its use. Please recommend benzoreform.org to your doctor for best practices which do not include polydrugging on multiple psych meds
Ashton is great, as well as a slow taper if you have a dr who's willing. In a pinch Phenibut helped, and was easier to taper. Don't get me wrong it's withdrawals are almost as bad but I took a 10th o a gram less every day and was off rather quickly.
Can I sue the Dr? Please hit thumbs up as that's the only way I can get notifications. They will not write a script. I have SPMI, have taken it 20 years and I have HBP , breathing issues, and I'm older.
Yes you can sue for malpractice if you are still currently a patient or have been seen by him within the last 5 years I think, I forget what the statute of limitations is. But other doctors have been sued for failing to provide informed consent about the dangers related to long term benzo use
@@BenzoBrains ty, you are a blessing to us victims of this negligent health concern. I came from a group home in Minnesota back to Michigan. I went to a crisis center and was refused. But at my age, sezuires, blood pressure and etc could be fatal. Just keeping it real. May God bless you channel and ty for helpng us all! MERRY CHRISTMAS. So since my Minnesota Dr was the prescriber, I cannot sue any new Dr? They are WELL AWARE of Klonopin wd. But laws and attitudes have changed!
It depends on the laws in your state. I'm sorry you're in this situation. I hope you find a responsible, wise doctor who will see reason and help you out. Merry Christmas
My doctor decided to cut me off clonazapam after I’ve been on it since I was 12 years old and now I’m 32 years old. I’m so scared. I’ve had 3 seizures because she decided to taper me off in a week. I can’t do it. I’m having a super hard time.
@@BenzoBrains I live in West Virginia. A very small state with very few good doctors who know about the Ashton manual. I’m so scared. I really need help, but I don’t know where to turn. I feel lost and I don’t know how to cope. I took all the information to my doctor and instead of helping me they referred me to another doctors office that won’t be able to get into for months. Idk if they will even help!
Wow!!! U spoke exactly what I think and experience but can't properly describe it,,,,,, I am trying to stay of benzodiazepines and my drs keep prescribing them!! I have Severe PTSD and to tell you the truth I don't take them,, sometimes I have to just to control my anxiety and panic attacks , but I'm stuck in the middle as can't handle the side affects of these meds and drs will not listen .... thatnks
None of these suggestions are an option for me. My doctor says he won't read the Ashton Manual or anything else. If I say anything, he'll fire me. My G.P. will not prescribe psychotropic drugs. The state of PA, where I live, is cracking down on ALL benzo prescriptions, even for tapers.
Well it happened. My Doctor say's she got red flagged and she absolutely wouldn't look at the Ashton Manual. I've been on 6 mgs of Xanax and 10 mgs of Ambien for the last 25 years. I even tried to get her to listen to some of your videos. She's making me taper using the Xanax and the Ambien. I'm going on my 4th month and my ears are ringing and I'm losing my hair. I am in the hospital right now for Emephzma and asthma. I know this may seem odd, but when I'm having a panic attack or an asthma attack, either way I can't get any air down. I live alone and have only 1 reliable friend, who is going to be moving out of state soon. I can't find any Doctor who will help me and most Doctors, in Western Pennsylvania won't see you in your taking a benzo. They just don't want to get involved. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for all you do for the community. Every blessing to you all.
I'm sorry. If you can micro taper , even fast micro tapering where at least you're dosing more frequently it may help. Also support groups and possibly the Benzodiazepine Information Coalition may have a list of benzo wise doctors in various states
I'm currently weaning myself off of Klonopin because it's now required that I be seen by my doctor every 3 months. I live like 50 miles away from my doctor's office and they're just making me jump through more and more hoops every time I go back in there. They made me take a drug test today like I was some criminal and on top of that I had to call my insurance company to make sure they would pay for it because she said if they didn't I would be billed $360. I'm just glad that I'm only taking 1mg a day. I'm reducing down 1/8 of a mg every 2 weeks and I hope that isn't too fast of a taper for me. I wish that I would have never started taking this evil drug back in 2004.
My doc ( because of Non prescriber Psych had it in for me ). 23 years of valium 60 mg reduced to 3 mg within 18 months and blackmailed. 4 year clean and STILL in agony! Self prescribed this xans year - had enough of aching period. It is nice to actually sleep again. Seriously bad 💩 is in benzos & pharmaceutical companies and doctors had a deal with pumping these prescriptions out ...then the sunshine rule came out in 2015-2016. I am yet to wd from Xanax I am yet to find a doctor or Psych that gives a 💩 and has proper knowledge of. Not even Dr professor Petersonwas was took seriously when seeing doctor s so HOW do you expect 'us' to be believed? Thanks you for this upload.
So after I taper below 2 Mg Ativan - I begin to suffer from the original issue of Anxiety - that's what started this whole mess to begin (in 1975 - my 1st year of Benzo Prescription). You say not to begin another drug while tapering - so how do I deal with the newly unmasked - original anxiety, - that disturbs my sleep through Night-Terrors (Really bad outcome dreams...!) ?
I think stay outdoors most of the time try walking or running miles per day twice in a day . Join gym . Do some yoga.. and try to love each and every one you meet daily
Can we go to the ER? My doc just pulled my last refill and I almost died pastime I went without because of a holiday. I have no way to go to another doctor.
If you don't have a script, the ER is a temporary fix. Definitely go if that's an option and perhaps discuss with the ER doctor any ideas he may have for continuing care. Discuss a plan to taper off slowly and this may make him more willing to help, but only do this if you're actually planning on tapering
+Benzo Brains Yes, and soon most of Pennsylvania will follow suit. Gun-shy doctors here in central PA don't write Rxs for opiates or benzos to virtually anyone because of the horrible number of overdoses in the past few years. EVEN THOUGH most of the overdoses are from the doctored Fentanyl. There IS a pain clinic in the same hospital for cancer patients and post-surgery (short-term scripts only). No chronic pain patients! However, no psychiatrists provide benzos here except for a six-week taper. For now, I am lucky to have a shrink who keeps me at my 1 mg of Klonopin because I have been on benzos most of my life and even a slow taper would take the REST of my life... in sheer hell. But if he is forced to change his policy, I will spend the rest of my life in bed, on three other long-standing psych meds and a life-long miserable colon condition. Sorry about the self-pity. I am a coward. So many are in withdrawal, and I am in awe of them. Sorry if I was mean to you. I am in terrible pain today with the colon, and of course, can't take anything for it, because they all constipate. Bless you and your work.
I agree with you. My doctor took me off of Klonopin cold turkey after 20+ years. I read the Ashton Manual. I have to say my doctor is completely ignorant!
@@irenabielecki3498, try to find an understanding doctor and refer them to the doctor Heather Ashton method of benzodiazapine tapering. You could do it yourself but you obviously need the pills to do it at the right speed. Best of luck, you will get off of them, millions of people around the world already have, so there's no reason that you can't.
@@bordercollie1140 yes I do tell them to read Dr Aston's manual, I went back to my GP yesterday as I have involuntary movements I have no control over, ringing in my ears, bad headaches, my stomach is so sore, I can't see well, and anxiety is out of control and so depressed, from being on workers comp for 23 years I was looked aftered, now since workers comp finished on Xmas day last year, being on public system, the health care here in Australia is so bad.. Doctors don't care!!!! I have a another appointment tomorrow with a new doctor, so fingers crossed he helps me.. Am trying so hard to get help, but I'm getting no where... 😰😰😰
I had an appointment today with a doctor and she wouldn't do anything but told me to continue tapering off Xanax and it'll be out of my system in a few days. I know that's not reality. There's people I know that's been on benzos for 50 years. I had to go to the streets to not die or have a seizure. Klonopin I can taper off of in two weeks. I can't believe that we have to educate doctors. They'll just treat me like an addict and refer me to psychiatrist. This does give me hope though so thank you. What about if you have to stay on the xanax how would you taper that way?
my doctor tried to treat (what I later discovered was) symptoms of Valium WD (I was dependent but unaware and taking it erratically, he claimed it was symptoms of a pre existing problem) with Ativan. And then was bemused when my 'pre existing' symptoms got worse. The ignorance is just jaw dropping, as well as terrifying and highly dangerous if you're on the receiving end of it.
Your advice about bringing an advocate is invaluable. You will be disbelieved and you will be treated as a pill seeker. You need strong, coherent support to say 'no: this person did what they were told by a doctor'. The iatrogenic benzo dependent person despises every mg he or she must take of this stuff. Which makes it so much worse when they are made to feel as if they are a 'conventional' 'addict' who wants to get 'high'. They could not be further removed from that. I've heard of people who were on a repeat RX for years and when they started talking about wanting to taper, the doctor panicked and either cut them off or tried to force a rapid taper. With horrific and all too predictable results.
chris lindsay this is why I advise people to never just go in and tell their doctor they want to get off. they'll assume control of your taper. always plan out your taper beforehand and then, maybe inform your doctor of what you are doing, or just surprise him when you're finished by letting him know you won't be needing any more refills.
Sorry, I just realised his reply was here. You're absolutely right. I foolishly left the doctor who made me dependent on Valium, thinking I needed another doctor, as that one had harmed me so much. The next one tried to take me off at 1mg a week. From 10, when I was already in a very bad place. You can imagine how that worked out.
Thank you so much for doing what you do. You're really helping me. I'm currently doing a water taper with ativan. Tapering from 1 mg. Doing 3 doses over 24 hours. My doc didn't want to switch me to diazapam because she was nervous it would present a new set of problems. Is that common?
It can. Diazepam has a much longer half life and is harder on your liver. It can make you more depressed. Introducing any new drug can have potential adverse effects. Generally doctors are led to believe Valium has more addiction potential and this is usually their concern. In my experience a benzo is a benzo and statistically Xanax, the most prescribed benzo, is much more likely to be abused than Valium. Valium just has a bad reputation from the Betty Ford days. Marketing has told doctors these newer, shorter acting benzos like Xanax are "safer" just like the newer longer acting oxycontin was "safer".
@@BenzoBrains Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to answer my question. This is so valuable. Really helpful!! I can't thank you enough! I'm 10% down on ativan. It's been a couple weeks on the water taper and my body is adjusting to doing 1/3rd throughout the day instead of one dose all at once. It feels more stable. It was a little rough at first, but it adjusted and sleep is getting better. I noticed I have to take it right on time. Meditating is helping and exercising is helping.

I am learning coping skills and should be down to 4 mg a In about a year. I will keep you all posted. I Pray I balance out. I would love to help other people after this stuff man. It's heavy. It's crazy. I will be qualified to speak On this subject after this ordeal. I HOPE I can help others . I plan on making IT
J.R. Goldman how long were you off before they put you back on. Did you still suffer the withdrawal effects like pain and anxiety or did it stop. I am asking they had me in .5-1 mg of Ativan for 6 weeks I wasn’t feeling good foggy brain so I went in and told them. Doc said let’s taper you down so I went to .25 for 8 days now. I have so many symptoms now I read on the tapers should I go back up now and then taper probably. Such a short time to have this withdraw stuff

Just found this video. I've been on benzos for 31 years... Xanax to be exact. I can't get off in any time frame anymore. Seizures no matter how slow I go. I'm stuck at 2.5 mgs a day from 6. Yes, 6! The doctors thought it was a good idea to give me 2mgs 3X a day. I wish I could stop. My body isn't agreeing with me.
I don't know why you ended up in jail. Some people have lifelong severe Panic Disorders and going off Xanax is not the answer. The SSRIs and Antipsychotics they try to drug you with instead don't work or make you a drooling morbidly obese diabetic zombie with liver damage. I don't consider that a reasonable option! Some people do very well with Xanax. Maybe it's the people who have a bit of anxiety that should never take it. If you can replace Xanax with herbal teas, meditation, positive affirmations, yoga, and giving up caffeine, then you don't have much of an anxiety disorder. Xanax would be overkill for garden variety anxiety.

I’m really interested in others who going through the same thing. How did you get off? I’ve been on them for 3 years and am scared to get off too because I lost Health Insurance. What worked for you guys?
I was on ativan for over 10 years and then they increased it to xanax and I took 4 mg daily for about 5 years and then suddenly I was told my doctor coukd no longer prescribe it because if all the abuse that is going on and I am what that suffers with horrible panic attacks and I also have ptsd and I almost lost my mind. They did wean me but not real good. I knew I was in for a hard time but amazingly I got though it and it wasn't as bad as I thought. I got to 1 mg daily and then went completely off and I've been off of em now for almost 6 months. I am still in therapy and I still have issues but I am learning how to deal with it better without needing meds. I feel like it's for the best because it's no fun to be dependent on a medication. I already take enough other stuff so from my experience I can tell you it will be ok. You will not die and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Having a lot of support from people and therapists is extremely helpful too. Good luck to you xx

Klonopin has a half life of 30 - 40 hours. Older benzodiazepines like valium and librium have half lives of 36-200 hours. So relatively speaking Klonopin is considered shorter acting. But yes it is longer acting than some others like Ativan and Xanax

My doctor is telling me I need to get off Xanax in one year I told him I'm not ready but he wants to cut 10 per month I get 60 per month . And now he prescribed seraquel instead I think that's kind of how you spell it . I been taking Xanax for 20 years and I don't want to stop . What do I do?
I'm sorry, firstly I wouldn't choose to take the Seroquel, that can be worse than benzos in many ways. But I understand why he thinks it will help with the withdrawals. Secondly, I think the choice should always be up to you, the patient. I would look at my Ashton manual playlist and other videos on here. Educate yourself. Then invite your doctor to go to benzoreform.org. See if you can come to an understanding and a treatment plan going forward that you're both comfortable with.
what about ordering benzos on line if this happens to somebody does anybody know if you can order benzos on line with or without prescription any answers would be appreciated

Many American Doctors are extremely ignorant and naive to the powerful, physical addictiveness of bzps.

I totally agree. I have started tapering by a very small amount and it's still hell. I can't imagine what cold turkey must be like.

It's hell
I’m dying

I guess every detox center, clinic or hospital is different in the way the treat their patients. With me after taking Klonopin for 15 years, at a psychiatric unit in a hospital they made me stop talking in one week and if I you get sick they don't let you leave and just watch your suffering. After that they tell you to deal with it! Better off do it at home. New Jersey.
Thanks for speaking out about the important truth!
Ursula. I am in NJ too and trying to come off klonopin. I just don’t know where to begin !!!!
I go to this list a lot:

This is a really good comment. It seems like some doctors and therapists have NO clue, and prescribe things that end up doing their patients harm. It's incredible!

This is a crisis. Some people have never increased dosage. Acute Panic Disorder with Agoraphia won't function anymore. Benzos became the Scarecrow😮

You can TAPER but DO NOT SUDDENLY DISCONTINUE A PATIENT 'S BENZODIAZEPINE PRESCRIPTION!!!

it just happened to me, 36 years on diazepam and I got drunk went ER to withdrawal they flat out refused to treat me with diazapam as they always do for withdrawals .. they admitted me, refused to give me my diazepam I almost coded.

MY Dr, (psychiatrist) literally just said to me, "I can't do this anymore ". JUST before sending me to a different doc to oversee my taper.(frustrating).
😯gee poor doc , this must be so hard for him...😡😠😬
When my doctor did that to me it ruined my life
I'm truly sorry. And I honestly hope you're old life is replaced by a better one after all is said and done
t's not banned in Australia, it has to be prescribe by a registered Psychiatrist.
Thank you I am very well now. I wish you the best
Excellent Points. Doctors are fickle. I'd guess 99% have no clue what it feels like to be addicted to a certain dosage taken for Many years.
I'm sorry, I know healing is possible once you get rid of the poison 🙏🌄
I am 53 and feel the same way. My doctor switched me last month from celexa to lexa pro and tomorrow she plans on changing my over 20 years on xanax to valium and the taper that. I am. Very frightened.

Now you tell me.😏
I have been tapered off of Klonopin 3 years ago and suffered in bed for almost every day and now on Xanax and finally up and doing more every day.

What a luxury to have an advocate. And how do you manage
To get to a library to print out this manual with no help or cognitive function and ability to even remember how to speak .. to do all this. I am tapering and in derealization
.. depersonalization.. akasthesia .

That's good I hope you don't have any problems getting your prescription in the future.

I have a tapering playlist that explains how. Basically I would water taper, breaking your dose into 6-8 doses a day.
my doctor tried to treat (what I later discovered was) symptoms of Valium WD (I was dependent but unaware and taking it erratically, he claimed it was symptoms of a pre existing problem) with Ativan.
@@chrislindsay9297That's what my new doctor is doing with me tomorrow. I'm terrified.
She is 100% correct!
I went cold turkey... Having big problems but going backward is not an answer🤔
Thanks for the video.I know the day is coming my dr is going to take me off. She's the reason my blood pressure goes up whenever I see her.I feel guilty for eating. She's very nice, just very hard on me.I feel like she's treating me like a 4yr old. She's the only Dr. I can get to w/ my state insurance.I'm on 4mgs of klonopin a day.I'm going to have to start tapering.I'm terrified of her.I am addicted, but know I cant say that to her.
It's unreal how doctors continue to give this stuff out like candy. How in the world are they only schedule 4?
Because they are effective and safe if used as prescribed.
Whyare booze and ciggs still sold?
No, Ativan is never a "switch over" from Xanax. Absolutely not. Both have short half lives.
Would you please show the link for questionaire pamphlet to take to my dr please. Thank you for being so helpful. My dr is cold turkeying me off klonopin 😞 God bless you for all you do Jocelyn!
Wow I hope you are able to find a different provider or sue your current Dr for malpractice if that continues. Meanwhile here is the link. Scroll down to Patient Tools and you will see the pamphlet and communication guide. benzoreform.org/patients-page/

@shelly Martin I am going through the same thing. Been on Clonazepam for 20 years and the Dr abruptly said I won't prescribe. I'm on the way to the hospital now. My God

What the hell kind of doctor would do that? Just asking to be held at gunpoint.
I have been following your progress and would like to hear how you are doing? I CT ambien 34 months ago, my story is very similar to yours, although I am much improved and able to work now. The horror of WD is over although I do have a few "leftovers" that rear their ugly head now and then> I wish you the very best, how are you doing?
Hi I made an update last month "20 months benzo free" I hope you saw it :)
I just watched your update. I am very happy for you. You have made great progress.
cindy stokes thank you :)
I was on 10 MG of xanax a day for over 25 years and was pulled off cold Turkey. I do not think you guys have a clue what Hell Is.
It's hell but you're not alone. There are others out there going through the same thing and others who have gone through it and survived. Keep going
@@BenzoBrains I found a doctor who Is tapering me off. I was on 10 a day for over 25 years . Over the last year and a half I am down to 6 a day. I feel like have been extracted from ONE planet and put on another. I believe I will adjust. It has taken me right out of life. I am reading books on anxiety. I am learning coping skills and should be down to 4 mg a In about a year. I will keep you all posted. I Pray I balance out. I would love to help other people after this stuff man. It's heavy. It's crazy. I will be qualified to speak On this subject after this ordeal. I HOPE I can help others . I plan on making IT
@@guitarforfree I'm so glad to hear you are able to do a slow taper. I hope you improve bit by bit as you come off
@@francinemartinez-cruz3335 I was on 10 MGs a day for 27 years. They took me off for 24 days. It was the worst 24 days of my life. I cannot describe the horror or torture. I am now down to 6 a day ............ I am off 4 mgs In the last 2 years. Its hard to get by On 6 . I will go to 5 and keep going. Coming off that was UNREAL. I would have rather died than go through It. I had extreme anxiety and panic but those were the least of my Issues. It was In humane !!! I was In deeeeep trouble. I am In deep right now. This has taken my life from me. I suffer everyday. I know one day I will look back at all off this and IT will be behind me. I hope to Inspire others. I have adjusted some over the last 2 years. Xanax hits me really hard at much lower doses. I am getting better. I am learning not to struggle with anxiety. I believer we can all recover. I do not think It will be In our time BUT In time. I am going to stay strong. I hope you all will as well. Be patient and know you will get through this. I have no doubt I will. No matter how hard or long It takes. One day at a time ya guys. and gals
As far as going back On. NO try to stick It out. You brain needs to heal Itself . It's going to suck really bad BUT It will get better. Give It time!!!! Only go back and taper slower IF YOU do not feel you can handle It. Try to NOT go back. Learn to handle anxiety and not rely On a pill.
20 years for me. Dr who I know over prescribes, cut me off, won’t give me my medical records and no doctor wants to prescribe. Really tired of trying
I hope you're okay. I prayed for you.

Thank you, darlin. :)
Thank you... So much

You're welcome
Just found this video. I've been on benzos for 31 years... Xanax to be exact. I can't get off in any time frame anymore. Seizures no matter how slow I go. I'm stuck at 2.5 mgs a day from 6. Yes, 6! The doctors thought it was a good idea to give me 2mgs 3X a day. I wish I could stop. My body isn't agreeing with me.
Healing is always possible. No guilt or shame for coming this far!
one word: *STOCKPILE*
Or don’t!! I just had to withdraw off bromazepam in jail!! Because I had a stock of benzodiazepines for my taper!! Not worth it!!
Is this channel still active? I'm on Xanax 3mg per day PRN and have been for thirty four years. I need to taper or find a Doc to prescribe
@Ok2BHuman sorry I have a second channel now and sometimes I'm not on top of this one. Try benzoinfo.com or benzoreform.org for help finding a doctor. There are also Facebook communities. Watch my tapering playlist for help with developing a plan
Your amazing . Thank you so much . I’ve been on Clonazepam for over 10 years ..... I just can’t see myself getting off this ... i do suffer from anxiety I’ve been sick since I was 17 . I was first given Clonazepam in the hospital . That’s when I first got sick . With depression and anxiety.
Please help me my psychiatrist cut me off Friday of Klonopin long story short and I do not abuse them I missed a few appointments if anything anyway sorry I am going on waking up actually two five days off Klonopin today and the withdrawal s*** that is hell the ER didn't help me doctor's office a psychiatrist yourself when do anything clinics all yesterday I heard this video of you last night and thank you for God bless you I do not know at all what to do it seems like there is really nothing I can do this point but I'm in true help with this withdrawal I'm going to cut it here and if there's a way I can get back to you please let me know and please explain it to me if it's an email or something and please just get back as soon as possible thank you and as far as finding another psychiatrist I was already trying to do that before this one did this to me they do not exist I'm in South Bend Indiana
Jessamine Vavul you don't need a psychiatrist to prescribe Klonipin. Any doctor, nurse or physicians assistant can help you out. Make sure to take an advocate with if you have a friend or family member who can help
I don’t want to quit!!! But being forced to!!! Please help someone!!in Australia they’re no fake ones to buy on streets! I’d rather be deaf than go off these🙏🤽🏻♂️
I’m really interested in others who going through the same thing.
I’m almost 64 years old and I have Panic Disorder in addition to anxiety… I hyperventilate and I am afraid I will pass out… I chew them quickly and lay down and try to control my breathing… it’s sooo scary… Even if I was successful getting off of the Xanax what other drug treats panic attacks… I’ve been on them for 24 years and take 2 half mgs per day… please advise because at my age I don’t want to go through all of this stress… Thank you ❤

Jessamine Vavul I actually know other people in Indiana who have tapered. What dose are you on, is it a high dose that scares doctors? You may have to travel to another town

It seems like Valium is the weakest although I’ve been on all of them. I am on 10 mg 2x a day for about 9 years. I’ve quit all the other benzos cold Turkey and went through absolute hell for over a month. I feel like my head is messed up forever. My question is, will it be hard to taper off 20mg of Valium?
That depends on how you taper, how you prepare your mind and body and support them throughout your taper and how deep your injury is presently.
Support groups are good, but been going to NA and its tough because everyone is 100 percent clean and not typer off. So i feel like im lying to people and my goal is to be a complete open book and not lie. Any advice?
Are you dealing with addiction ? If you were taking benzos medicinally and not recreationally maybe NA isn't the right fit for you?

Klonopin is not short acting. It's actually long - lasting. I'm on it
Klonopin has a half life of 30 - 40 hours.
Older benzodiazepines like valium and librium have half lives of 36-200 hours. So relatively speaking Klonopin is considered shorter acting. But yes it is longer acting than some others like Ativan and Xanax

Can we stop taking this medicine without resorting to the process of reducing dosage without doctors advice?
If you're asking if you can suddenly stop without tapering that is not recommended, no.
@@BenzoBrains how then can we stop taking this medicine if used everyday can we make it every other day or what is the best way of tapering it?

Yes it's what is happening to me
My doctor is telling me I need to get off Xanax in one year I told him I'm not ready but he wants to cut 10 per month I get 60 per month .
It's too risky! This stuff comes from China usually. Completely different chemical make up. Sometimes pills are so fake!! You'd have to know someone who knows the pharmacy well. Dangerous imho

What if you get locked up
A C that's a real concern as people have died in jail because they weren't allowed access to their prescription benzodiazepine. Honestly that's why I think it's best to taper off while you can so that doesn't happen
