Coming from England where the majority of houses are brick and concrete I never imagined all the issues you could face with wooden framed houses. Love it like always 🥰❤😍😘 Thank you 😊

Right? I almost can’t believe that you can take apart your house like that, piece by piece 😱 coming from Germany, most of the houses here are also made of stone, no way you can move windows or doors like that.

Ikr?! From my perspective they look like a play house. Not very sturdy. If we wanted to renovate we need more machinery. Both have their pros and cons. Dry building it's not a thing where I live, even when I know how it's done and how it works, it still baffles me when I actually see it 😮

Same here. Watching this video from India and wondering how people live in this structure . Having lived in brick and concrete houses all my life, i cant imagine living in a wooden house. I feel anything can fall apart any moment . And when Macenna was sawing the walls down, I was like what if burglars saw your walls down and enter the house ? I am terrified.

During my devotional time today, God reminded me of this video (I watched it yesterday) and how the amount of attention, care, and dedication you have for this project is how much (and more) God has for me (and you and everyone else).

WARNING:. I personally know two people who had MAJOR issues with the Trex decking. One, if it gets direct sun it gets so hot that you can't walk on it with bare feet and it will burn Kinsley's paws. Second, the heat caused the boards to warp. One person just replaced the warped boards and moved shortly after so we don't know how well that worked. The second person had pets so opted to replace the Trex with treated wood so they could walk on it. And it felt soft when it was hot and gave under their weight like an unsupported floor. This caused me to change my plans and I replaced my deck with cedar that will outlast me and I don't have to worry about burning my puppies feet. The first deck faced east and had partial sun exposure. The second deck faced south and had full exposure. Just FYI.

With the side door set up, this could be a lovely chance to add a really nice slope/ramp towards the road, while having curved steps towards the driveway! With the house being a bungalow it would be a good idea to make it as accessible as possible, either for parents or yourselves in the future (thinking of wheelchairs, prams/strollers)! It would look lovely with an outdoor tile pattern in the concrete to make it decorative!

Here are some ideas for re-use of cut down columns off porch...1) make a 4 poster bed using columns. 2) Use as dramatic victorian alcove with posts and gingerbread and center a clawfoot tub and overhead glass prisms chandelier with lacy curtains draped and tied back onto posts. 3) Cut porch posts in half lengthwise and use as interesting "trim" on otherwise plain fireplace mantels or as woodtrim on doors or walls. 4) Use for outdoor gas lamp posts along a path to other guest cottages. 5) Add birdhouses to top of posts and put in varied height groupings with wildflowers growing around them.

We haven't been able to have fires for weeks either since it's so dry, which has caused a fire danger warning across the state. Coupled with the drought, we are dealing with severe haze from the boundary waters wildfires in Canada.

We went with Trexdecking and have been really happy with it, a broom or hose and you are good to go! It looks as nice now as when it was put in, plus its made of recycled materials... you can't go wrong.

Amazing MaCenna, those guys seemed to be so sweet, very hard working guys and they did an amazing job, I bet you are really feeling how much better the house feels, I would be so scared every time I walked on certain section of the house floor. I just get so excited with every video you post, and once you get your new porch you will be so amazed and happy. Thanks again, sending love and hugs, bye for now.

Because of your inspiration pic for your porch, I fell in love with the idea of a dark porch floor in the house we’re renovating. Coincidentally, our architect recommended doing a dark porch floor! We went the composite route also for the exact same reasons as you did. Can’t remember which one of the 2 you companies you mentioned, but it was one of them. And it looks fantastic! (And white dove is our kitchen wall color!). Your porch is going to be outstanding!

I TOTALLY get it about the rain!! When we were building our house we had 18 INCHES of rain, it crashed our foundation 3 TIMES!! Talk about FRUSTRATED THAT WAS AN UNDERSTATEMENT!! this is our 2nd custom home build, the advice I can offer stay on top of everything, be there as much as you can for any questions they may have, and make sure you make your door wide enough for appliances to get through, as well as tubs, etc...so excited and happy for you guys...can't wait fo see more progress! ☺️

I have always felt that old homes have a story and a life all their own. You brought happiness back to that little house's life!!! Can't wait to see how it progresses. Glad the rain stopped! I'm in San Antonio. I know EXACTLY what you mean!

Omg you are a superwoman, MaCenna. I am in the middle of a small reno with my family since we are moving from a top floor to ground level in a duplex-house (I don't know if that's what it's called) so we can rent the 2nd floor, and it's been so hard (I'm also very busy with my career so that's fun to try and do at the same time!). It is so difficult and time-consuming and it gets worse if you can't find the right workers, but you are such an inspiration!
I am sending my best wishes and good luck for all the rest of this journey :) that cottage is going to look amazing under your care! I'll be here to watch the rest of the videos for sure!

You are going to love that composite flooring. When I added my composite deck a year after a major kitchen remodel there weren't many choices. I'm not wild about the mocha color, but the alternative was boring gray. It does show scuff marks from dragging heavy furniture across it and I have to clean the mildew every few years with bleach. Your darker color probably won't show any.
Now things will happen quickly. I can't wait. Will you add insulation? Your comment about the heat made me ask. My 70-year-old house doesn't have A/C yet. Next year. 🤞 I'm in Minnesota and even my house doesn't have insulation...in the original part.
