They both Will Always be # ! At 13 I listened every night on my transistor little radio , in a little town in Canada . I was a lucky girl to be able to listen in . Yo ooh Yahoo Mr Wolf !
Let the Midnight Special, shine a light on you! I miss the heck out of that! I wish I could go back in time. We lived in the absolute best era for music. Midnight Special, Dick Clark's American Bandstand, and Souuuuuuuuuuuuuuul Train!
Not a 70s kid but I've heard him a lot growing up my mom played alot of recordings wish more radio personalities were like him now he was awesome awesnd captivating
I never followed the guy knew of him though. That is how it works my girlfriends father just bought a new truck and passed away shortly after no one wants to drive the truck.
Rest In Peace Wolf Man. Man I really miss him and Dick Clark too. May they both Rest In Peace.🙏🙏 Who ever posted this thank you for sharing this treasured memory. God bless, I used to listen to both.
I remember my oldest brother Joe having a transistor radio when we were all in the same room with my other older brother. I remember hearing the Wolfman Jack show possibly back into 1974 or '75. Those memories are very distinct and clear to me. I remember hearing lots of those classics being played for the first week on the radio. Tons of them.
Bicentennial Year, 1976! When America Was Great! Two Legends that have gone on. Wolfman Jack's w/ Dick Clark on The American Band Stand! '76 was a special year with great Top 40 Rock & Roll!
Wolfman once said, "Don't ever let that tobacco monkey on your back. You will never get rid if him and he will be the death of you" and sadly, the tobacco drug killed Wolf at a very early age!
There is one thing I really liked about Wolfman Jack was that he would not take payola (Money or drugs)from people to play their records. He only played records he actually liked! I also watched American Bandstand every Saturday too.
RIP uncle wolfman. He died close to where I am. My dad knew him real good and I knew him and his family as well. I remember we were invited to one of his parties. At this point, I was 9. It was 1996 so between 4 and 5th grade. I got ready to go to his house when we got the phone call that he passed away. It was so sad. He was a great person. He did do drugs but not in front of me. The industry really got to him.
One of the saddest things about his passing was he’d just published his memoirs and died before he could go out and promote it. His book had so many great stories and we never got to hear him tell them
I first heard The Guess Who when I was 12 singing 'Clap For The Wolfman' here in Panama City, FL on 59DLP radio. 3 years later in 1985 WDLP would turn into an oldie station which also started my fascination with history that went way beyond music. And in that year every Saturday night was Wolfman Jack on that radio station with his 'American Graffiti Gold Show'. I really liked the music and his style. I asked a friend on Saturday night if they could give me a ride to the station across town because I really wanted to meet him. And that is when he put me wise that this is a nationally syndicated show being picked up on a satellite signal and then sent through the 590 kHZ signal. Of course when I was 7 and listening to the radio, I thought there were actual musicians at the station singing every song I heard.😄
My auntie dated him...I was so young, I didn't get it....but I do remember his voice seeming odd, but he was nice, and wore big rings and patted my head and said id be his girlfriend when I grew up cause I was the prettiest little girl....he was nice, very nice...can see him in my mind sitting on our couch.
You are so fortunate, right place right time. I was also very lucky to meet him when he spent some time in Toronto mid seventies, salt of the earth. pure persona and charisma. thanks for the share. I was 21 when I met him, 4 years later I was on the air. ~~Vibes~~ :)
+Regis Palmer Yes, I think that's the theme of my life a bit. I have many times when I met certain people, simply right place right time. I was a young teen rock and roll girl, in the early 80's, in Seattle...hint. Some big at the time...some garage bands about to be huge....good times.
I always used to listen to Wolfman Jack's programs on the AFN - American Forces Network - from Holland. I was a teen boy those days and loved his funny voice, noises and the great music he played. AFN we could receive through a powerful transmitter on medium wave band, those days. Dutch radio was boring those days. We only had some great pirate stations like Radio North Sea and Radio Veronice and of course Radio Caroline (Still on internet!) But the Wolfman I'll never forget!
On this day in 1973 {February 2nd} the debut show of the NBC-TV weekly program 'The Midnight Special' was aired... Helen Reddy was the show's first host... Musical guests were The Byrds, The Impressions, Don McLean, Rare Earth, and Ike & Tina Turner... Comic relief was provided by George Carlin... The show ran from 1973 to 1981 with a grand total of 158 episodes... R.I.P. Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012} and Wolfman Jack, aka Bob Smith, sometime host of the show {1938 - 1995}...
In 1984, Wolfman Jack starred in his own animated series "Wolf Rock TV", co-produced by DiC (who had Inspector Gadget and The Littles at the time) and Dick Clark. It lasted only eight episodes, though it would be rebroadcast a few years later with Kidd Video as "The Wolf Rock Power Hour."
Talk about range! I remember catching his show on XERB all the way north at Lake Tahoe in the late 60s. Ridiculous! Loved it! "You listenin' to da Wolf Man, baby!"
Back then, TV and Radio Air Personalities like Dick Clark and Wolfman Jack did what ever they could to hold an audience without crossing the line. They knew were to stop, but they were both family men too!
Back in the day..the Midnight Special concerts with Wolfman Jack were far more entertaining than Don Kirshners Rock Concerts, since the Midnight Specials invited alot of AM radio hit singers whereas Kirshners were simply Rock N Roll.
What was so sad about the Wolfman was just when he started to make a comeback had a book out was getting back to making some money again then he died suddenly and I was shocked when i heard about itTHE GUY WAS AN ORIGINAL!
It wasn't every day that Dick had a political genius on his show. Why, I reckon that it wasn't every day that Dick had a chance to even talk with a political genius. Well, anyway, there he was, the Wolfman on American Bandstand, generously entertaining all the children with various stories, a song, and even personal histories.
The question from the audience asking Wolfman "if he missed his American Graffitti days" refers to the movie by the same name. American Grafitti came out in 1972 and starred a plethora of young talent that later became stars. Richard Dreyfus, Harrison Ford, Ron Howard, Cindy Williams, Paul LaMatt and Suzanne Somers to name a few. Of course, Wolfman Jack was an integral part of the storyline as the local DJ Richard Dreyfus' character (Kurt) seeks late night advice from. If you get the op to see this movie, don't miss it. The Wolfman was his typical self. . .full of life and spirit. Loved them all.
We must remember that was the edge back then how corny we were and how much fun it was because we weren't hurting each other we were busy caring for each other
Wonder if he ever met with Jerry Blavat in Philly - or was there too much "competition" between them? They are two different worlds. I like 'em both in their own.
I wonder why wolfman used to play original rhythm n Blues but never mentioned Blues legend "Howling Wolf" Chess records Chicago. Comin from the South thats the original Wolf right there!
Wolfman Jack was on the radio all over the place. Whenever we went he was still in range. Great memories!
RIP: Wolfman Jack 1995. RIP: Dick Clark 2012. Two Music Legends.
Sad ! But thank God for show Archives !
Now it's Seacrest doing Rockin Eve. 😚😚😚
Two great legends that are truly missed. RIP Dick and Jack.
Ryan seacrest can try but will never reach that level. I agree with you.
You couldn't be more right.
You got that right

May they both Rest In Peace.🙏🙏
Who ever posted this thank you for sharing this treasured memory.
God bless, I used to listen to both.
There will never another Wolfman Jack or Dick Clark.
I used to watch Bandstand and remember this bit.
I am almost 63, and remember sneaking my transistor radio into my bed under the covers as a 13 year old, and listening to Wolfman Jack
I used to do the same thing with my Little transistor radio in 1964 was 14 ! Weren’t we Cool Lol !

I see.
But he did do drugs heavy he was talking about it in a interview 1990s. He was apart of that Disco Scene for sure.
