This is the second time I've come beck to this chat since Norm died. I'm not shocked now, more glad and reflective about both of these minds, these brief flickers of light.
Norm was a comics comic. It was much more to him than a profession. It was everything. That may sound trite but there is no list of titles to describe Norm's absolute love and respect for comedy which entirely consumed and embued his mind, heart and life. What made it even more special was the truly sensitive, caring and kind center to his being that was always present and keenly felt by him. He was a philosophical genius, holding hours long discussions through the night with well known minds of reknown. Larry after decades of interviews could realistically do this in his sleep, but it was clearly evident the admiration and respect he felt for Norm personally and professionally. He allowed us to look into the mind and heart of Norm, even setting him up for a joke. His genuine wonderful laughter fed into the joy, mischieviousness and the twinkle in Norm's eyes. It would have been a special event if Norm's mother could have joined the interview for a few moments. Everyone would have seen where Norm's charm and humorous genes arrived. During Covid they made comedy vids from home and shown on UA-cam which were full of personality and revealed his tender side. It must comfort her now he is gone and us. Love you Norm!
They call Norm an "everyman" comic in the description. I'd argue Norm isn't like any man. What an original. He will be sorely missed. RIP Norm and Larry.
I agree. He’s not an everyman comic, he is funny to everyone that wants to listen but not everyone wants to. It takes a while to understand his humour and once you’re in it, you’re hooked, and it can’t be replicated. You try telling one of his jokes at a table, people just laugh because of how terrible you told it. I’d say an Everyman comedian is someone who tells jokes everyman can tell to his friends.
Shane Gillis is an everyman comedian I’d say with the exception that he’s not telling jokes, he’s making funny observations in conversation. Norm is able to make the funny observation, but also have a killer punchline whilst weaving a story in between. Shane just seems to have a funny take on things from his own expereinces and then not have a punchline for it. He’s good I like him, but there’s a big difference between what he does and what Norm does.
“I used to be afraid but my mind became saturated with fear and it stopped.” - Norm. Does Norm even understand the brilliance that just casually walks across his mind. Best comic alive. The only person that can make you laugh with a horrible joke the same way he would with a great joke.

Two of the greats - I adored them both. The amazing thing is that we have so much recorded footage on both and can watch them both even after they’re gone. I wouldn’t have even discovered either one if it hadn’t been for UA-cam. RIP Norm and Larry.
I Really enjoyed hearing the serious side of Norm. He stayed in character his entire career. It was the only way it would work. I never noticed how compassionate his face was.
This interview shows there was a genuine, underlying sweetness and vulnerability to Norm. He shows great affection for people he really admires and respects. I love when he talks about pretending to be the dumb guy. That was part of the genius of Norm. He played the Everyman but was always the smartest and funniest guy in the room. I miss this old chunk of coal.
Larry is the perfect person to interview Norm. Norm clearly respects him to be candid and more serious than any other interview I've seen. Larry is funnier and appreciates funny people more than I knew. Probably one of my favorite Norm interviews I've ever seen.
Still in shock over Norm's passing. I've been watching everything on UA-cam with him ever since. How long has it been? Over a week for sure. So sad. Right after Charlie Watts, too. Even sadder.
One if the best interviews for sure. I'm glad someone had enough intellect to have a normal conversation with norm so we can see into his head a little haha
People barely mention this but I know for a fact that Norm is a subtle genius. The way he articulates his thoughts about his ways as a person and comic strikes with both poignancy and a slap on oneʼs common sense. Norm is a person worth listening to if people want to be real about life and how we interact with our fellow kind. He truly is the one of the best, if not the greatest, comedians ever.
What he actually said is some comedians are trying to be smart and the humor is a byproduct. George Carlin, his intention is to be funny and his intelligence is a byproduct. That's why observational comedy is so hilarious. That's why all these SJW 'comedians" are so unfunny because they take a subject they care deeply about and try to influence people instead of focusing on making people laugh.
In Carlin's case, I think it's mostly fans who make him out to be some sort of sage. He was edgy and cynical for the time but that's because there's humor in irony and absurdity; not because he wanted to share some kind of worldly wisdom with the world.
Who gave this a thumbs down? One of the most quirky and brilliant guys out there on TV. He’s somewhat of an outsider as a Canadian, a conservative, and not a drinker.
I relate so much to being angry because some hack is getting all the laughs in class. You gotta remember that McDonald’s is a lot more popular than actual good restaurants

Two of the greats - I adored them both. The amazing thing is that we have so much recorded footage on both and can watch them both even after they’re gone. I wouldn’t have even discovered either one if it hadn’t been for UA-cam. RIP Norm and Larry.
Norm is my most favourite comedian of all time .what a loss that he is no longer with us.
"Hey, you wanna hear a story about you?" 😂 I love Norm.
I Really enjoyed hearing the serious side of Norm. He stayed in character his entire career. It was the only way it would work. I never noticed how compassionate his face was.
The way his eyes brighten when he is setting up the xanax pun is marvelous.
Was there a Xanax pun? I can't see how that would be possible, I mean maybe a joke but a pun?
@@sethbishop6890 is this a rhetorical question?
@@agee7777 not at all. Do you know what a pun is? Xanax doesn't have multiple meanings.
@@sethbishop6890 it could have multiple meanings, it might be someone who is in love with Ana!

Norm was in the top 10 most original comics of all time.
I see Norm, I click.
'The champions tour they call it' the guy is a flat out charmer, straight up witty Canadian. Best comedian of all time!!
So he did actually meet Johnny...RIP Norm. I ❤ you!
A certified diamond interviews an old chunk of coal. Genius ensues.
He is right about the wikipedia of Don Ohlmeyer
Great to see Norm change gears and let people know he really is a veteran of comedy and showmanship. Young comics can really learn from him.
"You're sick.."
"I'm kidding.."
That is rare, isn't it.
took Norm 10 minutes to FINALLY sip that coffee. Great interview.
Rest in paradise LK!!
And now our dear friend Norm.
Standing on the shoulders of the blooper reel guys, those Wright brothers.
Such a great interview! RIP Norm.
Larry King taking a minute to get that Cosby joke is the best.
"I bomb, but never try to win 'em back" ...
Maybe it's just me, but I laughed.
Watching this in 2021 carries so much sad weight. Rest In Peace Larry King and Norm Macdonald. Just a couple of diamonds shooting the breeze here
Norm is the best comedian ever.
He made being hilarious the norm.
I could listen to these 2 for hours. Norm
MacDonald is my go to when I'm down. RIP
This is first time/closest I've seen Norm Macdonald staight/sincere/serious.
there are 2 more of these here on youtube, equally great.
you can tell larry genuinely enjoyed talking with norm this was a great interview.
One of the best interviews of Norm on the internet, definitely the most sincere.
I can't imagine Letterman ever got a better compliment than Norm MacDonald saying it was hard to keep up with him.
Both men were super smart
Such a good interview. Glad we got this.
This aired less than three years ago, and now both these men are gone. RIP
Wisdom AND humility. What a class act.
I keep forgetting Norm moved on!! It's still hard to comprehend. Miss ya buddy!
RIP Norm. You were a legend.
I've seen a few of these Larry King Interviews and I can't remember one where the crew was laughing. Well done Norm!
I saw norm here in Denver - one of my life’s best decisions.
I love Norm. Out of the way. This is one of the best interviews I've ever witnessed. Thank you, Larry. Thank you, Norm.
I love that he calls panic attacks where you completely believe you’re dying “stage fright”.
Both of these great men are gone. It's crazy coming back and watching this.
What a lovely dialogue between two sharp guys.
One dull interviewer with hints of philosophical brilliance and one philosophically brilliant guest with hints of dullness.
Two legends who are both gone now. RIP
god he was an absolute MASTER of comedy. He took it as a life craft and man oh man... He was the greatest
Great interview -- they were both really good. Sad to think that they are both gone, but people can still see this, which is cool.
his explanation of comedians trying to be smart and the funny being a byproduct is the main reason I don’t care for George Carlin as a comedian
I get what you're saying, but to me George is a notable exception.
John.Jeremy Williams yea I don’t think George Carlin was trying to be funny. But that’s just my personal iponion
Too preachy, that's what I always thought. The only riff I thought was really funny, and great observational comedy, was his riff on "Stuff".
In Carlin's case, I think it's mostly fans who make him out to be some sort of sage. He was edgy and cynical for the time but that's because there's humor in irony and absurdity; not because he wanted to share some kind of worldly wisdom with the world.
One of the greatest interviewers of our time interviews one of the greatest comedians of our time. Always pure gold.
Larry King and Norm MacDonald both passed away in 2021. Both were legends! R.I.P. To both of them.
Love a bit of Norm , he makes me laugh every time . Very smart man.
This was a real treat! One of maybe 3 or 4 BEST televised Larry King interviews EVER!
Aye love the Norm content, a truly interesting man.
Norm...the difference between commedy as an art, and commedy as a craft. Pure wisdom.
I like my commedy wise.
"I'm no Gallagher"...the man is humble and hysterical
Who gave this a thumbs down? One of the most quirky and brilliant guys out there on TV. He’s somewhat of an outsider as a Canadian, a conservative, and not a drinker.
Thanks for all this good stuff Larry, rest well Mr. King
I always saw Larry King as a very serious and dry character, but his laughter is so full of joy! Love it! These two were a good combo!
What a wonderful program.
I don't think Norm is ever more honest than when he talks about David Letterman.
For as long as it lasted it was nice to see Norm does have the ability to carry on a normal conversation.
Able to...... I'd say he is very, very good at it.
I relate so much to being angry because some hack is getting all the laughs in class. You gotta remember that McDonald’s is a lot more popular than actual good restaurants
i love norm's nervous tick to pick up the mug and then put it down without having taken a sip.
Two dead men discussing a dead man's career. But to me they're both still alive.
