@@ellismckinney4888 I'm not an exterminator. However, a friend of a friend owns an extermination business (and he has Biology/Chemistry degrees; sharp guy) confirmed what I've read online (extensively; faced with the possibility of an infestation, I read for many hours). If termites make it into the house... you really need to "tent" the house to treat it. There's a different product called Termidor Foam that MIGHT be effective in killing colonies in the walls... but, well... it's not a guarantee. While tenting a house starts around $5,000... that's cheaper than a new house (termite damage is rarely covered by insurance). I got very lucky -- I don't have termites... and I learned that you absolutely need to treat for them in the South.
Excellent. Thank you. Bait stations take up to 2 years to work, according to the US DEPT. OF AGRICULTURE. I TRENCHED AND SPRAYED THE BACKFILL. I ALSO SPRAYED AROUND DOOR JAMS AND WINDOWS. DIGGING THE TRENCH WAS HARD FOR MA AS I AM A 73 YR OLD LADY BUT I DID IT LITTLE BY LITTLE. AGAIN, EXCELLENT VIDEO. THKS
Yeah, that stuff really works. What I do to my houses is dig the trench all around the house. Then I buy 4" to 5" perforated pipe/hose that is used in drain fields. I put a T with a cap about every ten feet. I then put the pipe in the trench all around the house and then I cover it with the back fill. Then I go around uncapping the Ts and pouring in the poison. I repeat this about every 3 years. It is a lot easier than having to dig the trench every time you want to apply poison.
Thanks for the tip, its genius! I will do the same for my home and whein/if we sell, I'm sure the next owner will appreciate the forethought (or at least their pest control company will...)
@Alexio Rodriguez No, you don't have to use a sock. I would only use a sock if there was a lot of clay in the soil. Roots will make their way into the pipe even if you put a sock on. So, about once every 4 to 5 years you should snake out the whole pipe with a 1/2 inch diameter electric snake. Don't use a cutter tip on the snake. The tip of the snake will tear out all roots without any type of attachment that may damage the pipe. When you snake it, make sure you stick a water hose in the pipe and turn on the mater. Instead of the sake you can also pour in some rock salt, the kind used for pools that is cheap and you can buy at Walmart. That will kill the roots, but can leach into the ground and can kill surrounding grass and shrubs. Some use copper sulfate crystals, which they pour into the pipe and it too will burn/kill all the roots, but it can also leach out and kill surrounding plants. (yeah, everything has its pros and cons.)
Thank you so much for making this video. I've ordered the product and have dug a trench. Now though I must drill holes in my patio and driveway. As a widow with a house full of termites in Texas, I couldn't afford an exterminator and had nobody to help. But, thanks to your video, I'm doing it myself and because my house is all I've got, thank you very much!
Hi Sherie, nothing gratifies me more than helping people like myself who do not have money to burn. It is a shame that there are many wolves out there that will squeeze you for your very last cent when you are in a vulnerable position whether it is a mechanic, ac repair, plumber, etc. I am not saying there are not any honest tradesman out there, but they are like finding a chicken with teeth. Sometimes it just takes a little knowledge to save people what would sometimes cost thousands. I would like to wish you luck with this project and with any future DIY projects. Thank you for watching my video, God Bless and check out my other videos such as "How to jump start an AC" video. That video is worth it's weight in gold for any home owner who has an air conditioning unit because they go out so frequently due to one little simple component in which I disclose in my video.
Love The USA and Philippines , I Agree with you, but remember the only great friend and SAVIOUR you got is JESUS CHRIST (SON OF GOD) and also his FATHER(GOD)... TRUST ME...
I was a licenced pest control operator in the 80's with a wood destroying pest cert. Just a suggestion, You will want to look at treating the inside of the foundation if you have a crawl space. The only real difference in this trenching method is that a pro will have an "injection wand (hydraulic) and he can do this job faster without much digging, but this is just as effective. Strictly follow product directions, no joke, and you can and will do a fine job.
Finally, a pest control professional that does not rip my method of treatment apart . I guess it is because you are retired now and not monitatarly effected if people do this themselves. Thank you for watching and your valuable input Sir.👍
Watched your video, I wanted to thank you! We have dug the trench six inches wide and six inches deep. Wow! Super sore next day and got a couple blister but worth it for my Father's home. Now we just have to mix the solution and pour. Hoping it doesn’t rain in Harlingen next couple days. Worried it would dilute the mixture. Fingers crossed 🤞🙏💪
@@nataliewillisrnmsnag-acnp-434 You will be fine with any rain. These manufacturers take that into account. Very important though, make sure you follow the recommended 'dosage' so to say. Follow the directions and put the right amount in the trench and have someone cover the trench after the pesticide soaks down. You must do the same thing on the inside of the foundation if you can access it. You got this!
Thank you for this. A few years back I did something like this but the video I watched didn't give much detail (and the product was cheap). I still have termites and have been shopping around for pest control. I am on a single parent teacher budget so reading the comments about what people have paid scares me. I am going to give it one more try following your precise directions and pray for relief! Thank you.
Thanks for this video. I bought the Taurus product and applied it as directed. About 2 days later I noticed about 5,000 dead termites laying on the surface of one 10 foot section that I treated so this stuff really works. Saved me a lot of money over professional treatment also.
Knowledge is power, there are so many things we can do ourselves that'll save us a ton of money. We get a sense of pride and accomplishment when we successfully fix something ourselves which is priceless. I'm glad I was able to help you eliminate your Termite problem!
I bought this same bottle of pesticide and applied it around the house several years ago after noticing termite activity in the flower beds and near the fence line. I haven’t seen a termite since.
Excellent. As a handy man, 1 time wille working in wescovina CA, I knotice a terminex service guy actually released a flask/plastic container full of flying termites in a complex we used to work at, so I reported it to my boss and hoa people. They had me jump in the trash bin to retrieve the container. The hoa canceled the contract with terminex immediately the management company still works with this property owners and us. Please don't be suckered by this companies. Thank you so much for this video. 😉
THANK YOU SO MUCH i have spent over $3,000 on pest control people i replaced treated wood and just today found so many inside the wood, still waiting for pest control to come back!
A very simple way to not deal with the trenching back fill is to ...Trench the 6 or 8 inches deep and out, and then loosely rake the backfill back into the trench you just dug and then do the same normal treatment. This loosens the dirt and allows the liquid to penetrate and soak through.
I just discovered termites in my backyard. I bought 104 yr. old house July 2018 without having termite inspection done on it. Huge mistake. Previous owners paid for remodel big time but failed to rid property of termites. I will certainly be using Taurus SC and your instructions to get rid of termites on my property. Thank you!!!
Thank you for this video. I already spent over $1,600 on just the treatment. But the company did not go back over the backfill. That was good info. Plus when the Sheetrock is removed in the garage we will need to treat again. We can do this in our own now. I wish I saw your video sooner. Thanks again.
I had ground termites that would surface the first warm days every March. This has been happening EVERY year for years without fail. I saw your video and did the treatment 3 years ago. This is year 3 and still no termite reoccurrence. I don't know how long it will last but so far, so good. Your video has been very helpful.
I just noticed some black termites with wings coming from the baseboard in my kitchen. Never seen them before. Did you have any damage? Did you open up the wall?
This only works with a true monolithic slab foundation which is where you can actually see the slab on the bottom of your house. If you have brick veneer that covers your slab then you have to drill every 9 inches through your brick, which is roughly about every brick along with trenching, just popping the veneer to make sure your treating both sides of the brick wall. You'll also needs a sprayer for treating the holes, and mortar to fill in the holes after they get treated. Other wise termites can come up through the ground between the concrete slab and the wall and never touch your treatment. But that's just one thing. That's not even getting into supported slabs, crawl spaces, expansion joints, basements, etc. Make sure you research exactly what kind of treatment your home needs or you will be wasting money
You don't drill the brick. Drill the mortar joint. I would never do this method though. Its best to hire a professional with the hydro injection rod and they won't crawl anywhere.
I'm building a small cabin and researching every step of the way. This guy gives all the correct information I had discovered. Including Termidor SC in 20oz and being the non-repellant version. Lots of great information 7 minutes of time! Kudos!
Best video I've seen. Thanks for sharing. Single mom here looking for help with my house and the termites have gotten into my exterior trim of my house. I have no choice but to do it myself. Big help. Going to do this.
good job....and again as I mentioned elsewhere remove any fire wood, dead wood or wood debris remotely close to your house. Pay close attention to live trees near your house especially fruit trees and inspect them closely for termites. You don't want any wood close to your house
Great info to us. I’m retired on ssa pension. So I’m in a very low budget but this is greate help I didn’t know. By the way I have termites on my house and I can’t afford the cost estimate from the company they try to help but is only so much. They could go low so ... I started to rely on the advise of people like you how’s trying to share you professional AND experience to others. GOD BLESS YOU BROTHER
I bought bait stations, put them all around the house, per the instructions, and 2 of them popped. So I called Term1n1x, got an inspection and free quote. They quoted me $2K for eradication that would include a 12 months guarantee. After 12 months it was $300/yr for continued guarantee. I chatted with the tech a while to understand what specifically they would do and it was IDENTICAL to what is described in this video (thank you Megaladon!) but with one significant difference: They talked about how you have to drill holes in your driveway and back patio to be able to pour the Termidor SC so that the product covers all the way around your house. Also, to get behind shrubs, use straps to pull them back and anchor the straps to the ground with a stake. But, bottom line is Megaladon helped me save a ton of money. Thanks again!
If you were paying attention he said the entire container would cover the 200+ linear ft.. He was using 4 gals. of mixed product per 10 linear ft.. Details matter!
Yes you can do it yourself and save money. By reading the directions on the container of termiticide. Contact the manufacturer for more assistance when digging trenches around your house to exterminate termites.
I had a MAJOR termite infestation. I followed these instructions to the T. Believe me, if you have any doubt in your mind that this won't work for you. Don't! This stuff REALLY WORKS!! I ordered the product off e-bay for $65.00 and I'm now termite free!!! I have ZERO regrets, and the digging part (the labor) was not bad at all. Totally worth saving the extra couple of thousand dollars it would have cost for me to hire an exterminator. THANK YOU SIR! UA-cam saves the day yet again!! 😎
I have shopped around for this product trying to find it as cheap as I can & a short delivery time & the reviews are outstanding. I very seldom see such good reviews for any product & boy do I want it to work for me. It costs $95 now.
Question please: I think I have this problem, Do you treat with this product around the ENTIRE perimeter of the home? If so, is one container of the product enough for an approx 1400sq ft home (one level). Thanks for any advice you can give me. I think they are in one of my trees too as I found a large branch a couple of days ago that felt like a sponge. Then all of a sudden, (in the last 2 days) I began hearing a strange small noise from one of my inside walls. If they are already in the house (and cash is very tight) should I take the chance doing this myself, or should I call a professional? Thanks again, I'm kind of freaking out here.
hook 'em Longhorns 🤘 I am in TX & have used termidor in past, but thanks to watching your video I saw comment with a fella recommending irrigation drip line for easy reapplication every few years- YES! thank you both
Sir, first of all I am also very grateful to you for sharing your knowledge with us. I have figured out the math now, but was hoping you'd give me some advice about this related problem: Hurricane Sally blew down 5 trees as well as my privacy fence in my backyard (which is at the present, pretty much just sand, clay and weeds I have a new fence (so much for a huge chunk of my paltry savings), but the tree people wouldn't take the branches and such without charging 2 times what I paid for the tree removal, so now I have this huge, long mound of branches, chunks of tree trunks, etc. right outside the back of my fence. I was going to try to get rid of all this a little at a time. To compound this problem, the stumps are still there and my next door neighbor had made his fenced in backyard 1/3 of the size as mine so he would not have to deal with his backyard "maintenance," as he told me. Then he sold the house. There is literally a jungle of trees with vines all over them all around me. I'm wondering if I should do this treatment around my fence too, as well as the stumps to avoid the cost of grinding stumps and hauling off the debris (backyard has only 5 foot clearance/access to my backyard.). I've only had the house 1 1/2 years and now that I'm living there, I realize nothing was taken care of since 2004 when it was built. Any advice would be really appreciated. I'm heading up the the subscribe and like buttons now.
I would try my best to dump any dead trees & limbs/debris in close proximity to your home as soon as possible because they attract termites. I would personally only do this treatment around the perimeter of my home if I've seen signs of termites. Thanks for watching and good luck.👍
I already had a trench dug and liquid barrier installed 2 years ago. Next time around I can use your method. The holes have already been drilled in the concrete and capped. There's an access panel to the bathtub drain in my study.
Just a word of precaution, please try to avoid any of the termiticide getting near any bodies of water, even through drains, sewage, or runoff because it'll decimate any fish population. Thanks for watching and good luck.
I used Taurus SC from a 78 ounce bottle. I discovered the active ingredient is water-soluble, so I relied on time and rain to drive it into the soil. I mixed it in five gallons bucket, and poured it liberally just as shown in this excellent video, but used little flags every ten feet along my entire house perimeter to know how far I should go with each bucket dump.. Did I trench, no. I was told by a reliable source that trenching is done by pest control companies because (a) they must do a complete and effective treatment in a single visit, and (b) they need to show their value in charging $2400 for the treatment. So, instead, I decided to use my access to my home whenever I want, and known water-solubility of the product, to not trench at all and apply it three times (spring summer fall). I poured it onto the ground against the house and cement foundation in ten foot segments. Voila...no termites! And I has carpenter ants visible around by wooden outbuilding shed, theyre gone, too. Frankly, after one application all seemed dead, but I did the summer and autumn applications anyhow. I even have some areas of foundation that are mainly cement, but I did no drilling (weakens cement, future cracks then water ingress) and just splashed this stuff on the exposed cement. Three years later nothing still for termites or ants...but just to be sure, I applied it again this past summer twice, with a rainstorm in between (aboit a week between applications). I’m in Illinois, so the soil is moderate (not clay, not sand, more like topsoil). If my soil was clay, maybe I’d have to spend hours trenching, but the leaching into my soil seems enough. I’m merely sharing my personal experience so you can decide how to do it yourself. All the paid mastermind pest exterminators can get on here and tell us all the reasons trenching is mandatory,, but it wasn’t for effective treatment in my 20 year old home. Some might say that ground application washes away and wastes the chemical, to which I reply that I can waste a ton of it before I ever get to $2400 the exterminator was going to charge. Affect other insects further away when it washes away? Doubtful...trust me, I did it far enough away from a rain that it was in the ground and dry before any rain. If I’m told it doesn’t get deep enough to be effective, I’d say that my multiple treatments did get as deep as a single trenched treatment, but I can’t prove that other than I no longer have termite issues. $200 in Taurus SC and I’m good (two different years spaced 3 years apart). Take it for what it’s worth, if you disagree with how I did it then do it your own way or the way the gentleman did it on this video. It’s all good. Note: If you are selling your home, and a termite inspection with certification to sell the house is mandatory, you’re stuck paying an exterminator, they will find termites and charge you painfully just to get the paper to sell your home. In that situation, save your Taurus SC money toward the paper proof of treatment, they have you by the short hairs. Peace ☮️ This is a great video, btw, re mixing and pouring of the chemical. Agree completely with the channel host on what he says about the product and now he applied it. His soil is more clay-ish than mine, likely harder and less easily drained, so trenching likely best. This is such a helpful video. Good stuff, well explained.
Digging trenches today, application tomorrow. I tried to get the Taurus, but the site said Navigator SC was the same exact ingredients for $5.00 less. Thanks again man, saving us big money.
When you sell the house, you need paperwork to show it has been treated. Lol he said they pass it along. When a termite has digestive problems, it licks the behind of the one in front of him and the very slow working Fipronil is passed to him.Just so you know Fipronil at 9.8 is in the flea treatment called Frontline and Termidor termite treatment is applied at .06.
@@Eastbaypisces they are easy to see, about a 1/8 inch long and white color, like a grain of rice basically. They make mud tubes on the inside of your foundation (Crawl space) or between your foundation and siding. If you see one, you will see dozens, they are always in large numbers-they don't work individually. If you know what you are looking for, and find them, you know it.
Absolutely great video. Very simple and easy to follow instructions. I'm a new homeowner. I've been in my new home two days. Last night 🌙 as I was going to bed. I noticed about 7 small winged ants on the wall. I killed them of course. But then I thought to myself. "Oh no, we have termites. We're going to have to tent the house." Then I imagined this big red tent over the house. But I thought that would look silly and would cost a fortune 💰💰💰. That I don't have. I woke up today and "thank the Lord for utube. The Lord lead me to this video. Love the presentation and clear understanding of what to do and how to do it. Thank you so much.
Saw this video about 5 years ago and it worked very well. Today I found more termites(just one so I'm going to retreat again tomorrow. Thanks for the vid. I saved lots of $$'s
Thanks for this great information. I bought my house three years ago and about 2 years ago i noticed this brown stuff coming out from my bedroom ceiling. The Pest control company told me that it was subterranean termites and they charged me $1200. Since then they sold the company, well last week I came back from three months in Europe and I noticed them again in the same room, it freaked me out. Unfortunately they only cover the warranty for only one year so I called an other company and again was charged $ 1300. I asked this new company why they came back so soon and he said that maybe they didn’t put enough chemical before. I have mostly cement around my house so being a widow there’s no way that I can drill holes around my house but I still appreciate your video.
Thank you so much for this video. You have some great explanations and using the bucket makes it easy. I appreciate your comments about safety (gloves, goggles, long sleeve, mask). I can't wait to do these myself. You will be saving me $1000.
I live in an area where most homes are floating slabs. And if you have termites on an interior wall like between the kitchen and garage you have to get a drill to treat the area outside perimeter won't get it unless they are active where he treated.
Be very careful where and how you dig. There are likely buried cables and tubes below the surface. Near my house I discovered a VERY HIGH VOLTAGE feed line for the electricity to my house and it was ILLEGALLY buried only ONE FOOT BELOW THE SURFACE. Other problems could occur by striking gas, water, sewer, drainage and communication cables.
There are people that are going to tell you to call a professional but the last time I checked, they are not volunteers! They want alot of money to do this. If the money simply DOES NOT EXIST, you have to do something instead of nothing. I would like to add that Terminix is by far the worst company to do any kind of business with. They don't know what they are doing. They came to my house and told me we had bed bugs and said it would cost $2000 to get rid of. Come to find out, it was tapeworms from my cat! They actually looked at the tapeworms and said it was bed bugs! Had my cat treated and no more issues. They are crooked and dishonest.
I purchased my house in 2003 and had termites a year later. I trenched my house like the video 6" and used Termidor. You do not have to re-use for the top soil. I have not had Termites since. PS: Drill 1/2 holes every 2' in concrete patio and use funnel to get under foundation.
Thanks for this video! I panicked 7 weeks ago when I found wings in my dining room. I call Orkin and they came out. It was snowing when the "inspector" came so he did not see the mud tunnel almost directly underneath my front door. Heck I saw it when I bought my house but had no clue what it was. I thought it was spray foam filler. I would have never bought my house had I known. Shame on me! I already spent $1400 for 2 years. Wish I saw this sooner! Thanks for sharing all of your tricks and techniques! You rock!
Great video! thank you for being so detailed in your instruction. Just wanted to ask if I have concrete around my house how can I go about treating subterranean termites? I do have a crawl space where there is a small amount of soil. Would I pour the solution around the house and have it seep into the concrete around the house or should I treat the crawl space? Thanks so much your time
I would say the most effective way is get the solution under the crawl space, but those are some really tight quarters you'd be working with down there and I'd hate to be you and I wouldn't do that myself due to the risk of chemical being in such close physical contact with your skin/face and clothing. I don't know if you would irradicate your problem if you only poured around the perimeter which is meant for a concrete foundation house. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Great am a home inspector, from St. Lucia Caribbean island,. I find your video very interesting and informative i learnt a lot from it thank you so much anytime again. For the knowledge.
And of course you have a $300 hammer drill to drill the expansion joints every 12 inches and a pressure pump to proper treat the drill holes. Let's not forget the plumbing penatrations. Bath traps, shower drain lines, any water or drain line is a potential entry point for subteranian termites. Oh ya...also cracks in slabs. Subs only need about 1/64th of an inch to enter a structure.
My location because of the ground type, 12 inch holes won't work. We have to go with 18 to 24 inch space between holes in concrete. Or the chemical just pushes back up the hole. This is the issue with national companies. They all get trained for the same soil types. I'll stick with my guy. For 800 bucks he did it all for me. Easy peasy. No days of digging. No messing with dangerous chemicals. The guy in the video isn't wearing gloves and a mask for nothing you know.
I see that you posted this 8 years ago. I found your video very straightforward and easy to follow. I live in a studio apartment on the bottom floor. I discovered there was a termite infestation outside my window, that allowed them to come into my apartment from under the ac/heating unit that's very close to the floor. The complex exterminator was summoned to take care of the problem the results...to very minimal avail. He sprayed, and that was it. I watched videos from UA-cam ,and got lots of information I didn't know prior, so from these videos, I became proactive in keeping these pest out of my place. I found yours the best, Thanx 😊
jThank you dear for your help. I am a single woman and you helped me figure this out. I watched other video's and yours was the only one that made any sense. Home depot tomorrow and some digging. Big hugs. Subscribed.
Hi Bob, thanks for watching, I have an affiliate Amazon link below in the informational section of the page where you can purchase the same exact product that I use in my video.
I really appreciate the information and the video. I have a termite company coming out to do this and I didn't know what to expect. Great job on the video
Thank you for your video. I live in Houston Texas. My house has too much damage because the termites. Until now the whole back wall of my house has to be redone, and I been looking videos but yours looks a lot much better than the others I have seen. I will try to do this because is very sad see my house like it's now.
Very informative. Thanks for the info. Remember though, as previously mentioned, that if you are using a liquid termiticide, that you will have to drill any area's that are non trenchable to get a barrier around the entire perimeter of the home. When using a professional company it is amazing the diversity of pricing that you will receive.
I just use Borax an Borax with sugar. This is what I do and it works and really only cost me time because Borax and sugar are cheep. I will mix about 5 cups of Borax in a 5 gal bucket with hot water to help it dissolve. Then I pour it onto the ground around the house. You really have to douse the ground with it and sill use several buckets of the mix. Then I mix the stuff in a sprayer and spray it on the foundation. You can also mix up a paste and paint it on with a brush. I will also spray any other areas that may have signs of the little buggers. For traps I just make them with a solution of Borax and sugar, then soak some cardboard in it. Let the cardboard dry and roll it up and place it in the ground. Vertically is ideal. Another bait trap I make is by using fine saw dust mixed with Borax and sugar. I form small bait balls with it and place it around where I feel necessary. You can dig a trench and put a healthy dose of the mixture around the house but found that it worked without it just fine. I personally feel that regular treatment is a good practice. Traps or liquid, or both. Stuff works. Helped some friends get rid of termites as well as treating my own home.
Thanks much for the DIY video. Great job! I was clueless until now about the whole termite infestation and the remedy to eradicate them. You have helped me greatly. Thank you!!
I am so glad I came across the video. We used a termite company some years ago with not so good results. I know we have active termites and we are going to use this method. Thank you so much.
Great explanation. Need advice on my situation. I had termites swarm inside my house in the basement last February. Called a pest control company and they did their thing. Put some stakes around the house and some “poison bags” in my basement. About a month later I had another swarming episode in the basement again. This time less than before. Pest control came out and didn’t really do anything more besides add a couple of “poison bags” in the basement. About 3-4 months later, they swarmed the back patio area outside. Nothing inside this time. Pest control came, checked the stakes in the ground and left. Today I had the latest swarming episode. This time it happened at the very edge of the backyard, near an old tree trunk. They came out of the ground. I could see even immature ones (without wings and much lighter in color). I had a little left over foam spray that kils on contact and sprayed it but that ran out quickly. Then I just took some of that powder poison from one of the bags in the basement and dispersed around that area because I could think of nothing else. Question: How do I deal with them now that I know the exact area they came out of from the ground?
Thank you for this video. I have question that if the house termite issue is beneath the house, do I still treat the out skirt of the house or do I have to go under the house crawling and dig ?
its just the perimeter of the house the termites tough the stuff and take it back to the queen and it kills the nest and it will take care of all your other pests also like ants black widows and can use it for wasps also with cat food mixed
hi Megalodon... massive thanks for your video.. i learned a lot really and followed exactly your entire process... However, how many times in a year do you usually apply Termidor on the trenches in your house?
Adam Savage ....It is, but never try using this strength or trying to dilute the termite version....IT WILL KILL YOUR DOG!!! ....the dosage on an extra large 88# + heavier dog is only 4ml. of a SUPER diluted version of fipronil mixture....
I'd find a sacrificial container to pour the 4x0.8oz in, then mark where that comes to. Then it's a little easier to just fill 4 gallons then taurus up to the mark in the other container, pour it in and you're ready.
I did a treatment on my home after watching this video about two and a half years ago. Everything went well. I built earthen dams every ten feet and poured the four gallons into each section and back filled right away. I however did not retreat the top with half the amount as you stated to do so. I am now seeing a couple of termites once again. No big deal as I am going to retreat again without trenching. should be fine. I will repost the results. Otherwise the video was great and I save a bunch of dollars. Thanks!
I missed that part about treating the fill but that is wrong. The label says cover with untreated fill dirt. If a trench and treat didn't work you didn't get it where you need it. Drill and treat the porches or patios AND anywhere plumbing pies come through a slab floor or the entire sub area on a raised foundation. This video does not address any of that and would be considered a limited treatment. The label tells you all this you should read it or hire a pro.
what did u do about your dirt filled porches, other attached slabs and your garage expansion joint...?? do not follow this video it leaves out very important info on the right way to treat your home for termites
IF the termites are coming in under a slab at the side of the house, then you are correct. However, termites don't know there is a poison barrier in the other places, and if they're coming in via the other directions, it's all good.
One thing that would have been helpful was a layman's explanation of what size house the 78 oz Taurus covered. I have a small house & except for the garage, patio & porch, we were able to trench the rest of the house. However, we did the sides & part of the back & ran out. I wish someone would say this covers 1000 sq ft or 1500 sq ft because we couldn't finish. Now I have to order some more.
Yeah one bottle makes 100 gallons and that covers about 250 linear feet remember you need to b putting down 4 gallons for every 10 feet to get an effective treatment
Excellent video…..QUESTION PLZ: I have a new large patio and front large porch/driveway that are a year old concrete, should I drill holes in those areas or do you think termites died while doing the concrete work, I can’t figure if should drill or not in the new concrete. the soil side I will do the trenching treatment. Anyone who can advise will be greatly appreciated
This particular treatment outlined in my video is for subterranean termites. If you are seeing signs of activity such as mud tunnels leading up from the ground and up to your walls indicates you probably do have an infestation that needs to be addressed. The proper way of introducing the insecticide to the perimeter of your home that is surrounded by concrete is by drilling holes. There are other videos on UA-cam by other content creators explaining the drilling process. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Watched the rest of this and you did understand quite a bit for a handyman other than the math issue but there are a few things to consider. One this siding as well off the ground and exposed, if you can't see the termite tubes and there aren't any cracks in the foundation don't waste your time by treating here. If this wall has subterranean termites there is a crack in the floor or a void in the concrete around a plumbing pipe, you will need to drill and treat the interior wall near the access point. On the safety issue the label is very thorough if you have a basic understanding that termites can't come through solid concrete. The label says use a NIOSH approved respirator, you are wearing a dust mask which is a joke at best. No petroleum solvents means no smell and very little vapor so you won't die now or anything. Frontline and Advantix drops that you put on your dog (*and through there bloodstream) also use Fipronil.
I don't know if you'll read my comment, but ust in case... Question => The fundation of the house is thicker than 6 inches (the recommended depth of the trench). So what is the termites circulate deeper than the depth of the trench ?
I did this when I renovated a house that needed repairs to floor and walls (so I didn't mind drilling holes to inject / spray the solution). To save money I recommend getting agricultural disodium octaborate tetrahydrate and mixing yourself (same chemical as tim-bor, but much cheaper). Water is OK as the solvent, but if you use monoethylene gycol instead (or a mix of water and glycol) it penetrates the wood much better.
I recommend using a power sprayer with Taurus because you can do a house in way less time and you only trenching the perimeter of the house what happens if the termites go under the foundation and hit the wood in the crawl space?
Thank you , just noticed we have subterranean termites, and we recently moved in to our new home about 5-6 months ago. We even had a termite inspection done and they didn't find anything
First, you need to find out the type of termites infesting your home. This method is for subterranean termites only and cannot be poured directly onto the wood. You can get a free estimate from a pest control company that will give you more insight as to your current situation and how they would rectify it. At that point you may hire them, or do it yourself. God luck, and thanks so much for watching. 👍
Whoa hoss your math is way off!!! 78 ounces mixed at .8 ounces per gallon equals 97.5 gallons. The label calls for 4 gallons per 10 lineal feet on an exterior trench and treat. That 4 gallon per ten lineal feet rate is the same as it was for Dursban TC and even Chlordane (I've been doing termite work professionally since 1982). Anyway that jug will treat 243 feet of exterior foundation NOT 100 feet. That's why most states don't allow the sale of this stuff to unlicensed people!
Ok so you treated your house by yourself. How much is your time worth? How long did it take u to treat it? When u have a termite company treat your home more then likely you are getting a bound that warranty the work so for some reason u get termites they will come back out retreat them for free and fix any damage they cost. So in the long run have a termite company do what they do best is better for the home and could save u a lot of money in the long run.
It took me about eight hours to treat my own home, if I made $1300 bucks a day I might rethink doing the work myself. Or maybe I would hire some really cheap labor to dig the trenches for me for a couple hundred bucks max and do the easy pouring myself and still save a grand. As to the warranty the three companies offered me where at an additional cost of at least a couple hundred dollars for a couple years at a time. Now in my opinion that's where they make even more money after the treatment. When the application is supposed to last the duration of 10 years, why pay 200-300 dollars every 2-3 years for a warranty unless they don't do their job right in the first place it's not needed. This is why I do it myself, right, fast, and the first time. Thanks for watching my video.
+megalodon1 great Job doing it yourself but i think you are giving Good pest control specialists a bad name.. I been doing it for 14 years and i have always given free advice to people wanting to do it themselves first. Its very easy to show people how to do things without explaining the risks involved such as contamination, over kill or overspraying. Im not opposed to what you are doing but stop bad mouthing on people that do this for a living.
It doesn't work like that. After they treat, of course you won't see any termites for at least a year which is the only guarantee they will give you. Remember, termites swarm only once a year. You have to pay the yearly fee of $300 to keep the guarantee going.
I use the same stuff and with a sprayer, spray around the house and it kills so many bugs and spiders. I also backfill and re-wet the trenched area after backfilling. That stuff works well and well I paid $95. for 78OZ.
This product is sold on Amazon and Domyownpestcotrol.com and can be sold to homeowners as long as you are using it for your own use and property. You need a license when you are treating other peoples property for profit. Click here for reference www.domyownpestcontrol.com/do-need-pest-control-license-to-buy-termidor-or-any-qa-1806.html
As a big DIYer around the yard, I think if you wanted to do a preventative treatment I can understand that. However, if you recognize you have a serious infestation, I would absolutely not rely on my own experience or ability to learn the basics to protect a home. It's just not worth the risk. TX A&M University stresses that termite infestations should not attempted to be treated by an amateur. I'm not knocking you here, I appreciate saving a few bucks any time I can get some exercise and do it myself, but not with this one. As far as safety, obviously something is better than nothing, but that face protection looks inadequate. I have seen double barreled masks at Home Depot and auto body shops that are more advanced than that mask. There is no way that high quality dusk mask is filtering microscopic gases. I hope it goes well for you.
So isn't installing a split AC unit...For most situations a handy person can easily do a great job on standard situations. There are always exceptions that require some experience and forsite...BUT, many or most companies don't even do a great job. Doing it yourself for most situations you will do it better. Many of these pro replies I read are just scare tactics or extreme situations. Not your average prevent or even new infestation. Sure this video doesn't even cover many things like slab treatment or pipes, ext. But there are WAY TOO MANY rip-off companies out there. Lots of GREED. You have the insect pros defending their turf, and the AC guys doing the same...Its funny, but mostly sad to see this.
Why is the “trench” necessary? The mixture will seep into the soil via percolation right or has gravity stopped working? This product is used to kill them upon contact or get on them to go back into the nest? I think more detailed discussion would have helped here but I applaud anyone sharing helpful tips via UA-cam. More details though please! I found subterranean termites about 30’ from my home near a tree and am concerned they might find my house. I’ve sprayed my foundation with a bifenthrin and permethrin mix in hopes it’s capable of killing and preventing them from ever making it to my home. Now I’m looking for a way to feed them a killer they take back to their nests and end this problem all together. I’m hopeful they are currently feeding on dead tree roots or something being they were near a tree and my house hasn’t been noticed yet..
That is a great question, and I'd love to answer it. Even though any liquid will seep into the dirt, the trench acts like a funnel in order to direct the treatment to the inner perimeter of the foundation. Otherwise without this the Taurus SC would spread in a circular manner rather than a straight line without the accuracy needed to properly do its job. Thanks for watchIng, and hopefully that helps.
Thanks for the video ! great job and very detailed....I have this product and it works wonders for cockroaches too !! it's super strong and lasts a long time.
this guy is any tradesman worst nitemare.he will get 3 to 4 bids.ask a bunch of questions and then think he can do the work.without a slab injector its hard to do the job the right way.
I saw an exterminator video and he didn't add anything to the backfill. I would think spraying the full strength on the the backfill would be better instead of pouring the diluted 2nd treatment for fear the diluted treatment would dilute the 1st treatment?
I am an Exterminator for 22 years in Fl.This guy did a great job showing home owners how to save money. Kudos to him.
Wow, first exterminator who does not rip me apart. Thank you for your honesty!!!
Good to hear
My house has a creepy low crawl space Sebring Florida will this work for me if any termites are inside my walls etc? Ty
Great video and very helpful review/comment. Many thanks to you both! (Louie Pino and megalodon1)
Excellent.
THKS
Great job, thank you so much for sharing how one can live longer and save money at the same time by being physically active. 👍
How many times have you used this method
If there is an incline, this method won’t work. Better to just dig the trench and pour directly so you can actually see where it’s going.
so what about inside the foundation under house(not exterior)??

Hard work always pays off, thanks you much for watching and good luck.
@@jacksp5089 What if there are termites in the attic? We had a company drill holes around the outside of house, but nothing yet inside or attic.
Thank you.
Pest tech here. After I converted the Freedom Units to normal everyday measurements, the bloke is pretty spot on.
Thanks, every other pest tech rips me a new one because they feel I am hurting their Bu$ine$$. Thank you for the truth.🙏👍
Same here, thanks for your feedback which lets people know I am not just blowing air when I eloquently articulate how to kill termites.👍💪😁
They will do anything they can to shove their ludicrously priced services down your throat.
I always wondered if that could be done (releasing termites)
@@onenikkione No it will not work, 99% of the termites will not make it. The ones that do take around 20 years to do any damage to a house.
This loosens the dirt and allows the liquid to penetrate and soak through.
what about for crawlspace??
That's great to hear Jim, I really appreciate your feedback Sir.👍
Very well explained some of these guys crack me up
You don't drill the brick.
Kudos!
Thank you so much for your valuable feedback.👍

good job....and again as I mentioned elsewhere remove any fire wood, dead wood or wood debris remotely close to your house. Pay close attention to live trees near your house especially fruit trees and inspect them closely for termites. You don't want any wood close to your house
But then where to put firewood please?
Great info to us. I’m retired on ssa pension. So I’m in a very low budget but this is greate help I didn’t know. My pleasure, so glad I could help out. 👍
Did mine yesterday per your recommendations. during the night I think I heard the termites tiny little screams of death. thank you
I bought bait stations, put them all around the house, per the instructions, and 2 of them popped.
I've heard that earthworms enjoy the bait in the bait stations and will make the indicator pop. Do you know anything about this?
What? He is pouring 4 gallons every 10 feet and the another 4 gallons (1/2 strength) on top of that 10 foot of backfill.
If you were paying attention he said the entire container would cover the 200+ linear ft.. He was using 4 gals. of mixed product per 10 linear ft.. Details matter!
@@03stardriver even you weren't paying attention xD 1:55 he said 100
Yes you can do it yourself and save money.
Follow up every 6-12 months please.
I have shopped around for this product trying to find it as cheap as I can & a short delivery time & the reviews are outstanding. I very seldom see such good reviews for any product & boy do I want it to work for me. It costs $95 now.

I think I have this problem, Do you treat with this product around the ENTIRE perimeter of the home?

It's my pleasure, thank you for watching!
Victor Johnson: What TYPE of termites do you have?
Victor Johnson hope you can tell the difference between an ant with wings and a termite.
''The Lord led me to this video''. Ask the Lord for a big red tent and pleasant dreams. What an idiot, you and the fu...g Lord.
@@Megalodon1 how to treat a tree with termite
Saw this video about 5 years ago and it worked very well. Today I found more termites(just one so I'm going to retreat again tomorrow. Thanks for the vid. I saved lots of $$'s
Great video. Can you comment on application under patios, porches and inside walls? Thank you.
I have mostly cement around my house so being a widow there’s no way that I can drill holes around my house but I still appreciate your video.
brown stuff coming from ceiling?? oh shit thats crazy, thought they came from the earth not from above, that means they all over in ur house right??
Thank you so much for this video. You have some great explanations and using the bucket makes it easy. I appreciate your comments about safety (gloves, goggles, long sleeve, mask). I can't wait to do these myself. You will be saving me $1000.
My pleasure, please consider subscribing since it's free and I will save you more money in future how to's.👍
@@Megalodon1 I already subscribed. Anything that helps people to save money is subscribe worthy in my book. All the best.
I live in an area where most homes are floating slabs. And if you have termites on an interior wall like between the kitchen and garage you have to get a drill to treat the area outside perimeter won't get it unless they are active where he treated.
You’re a kind man to share such essential information. Thank you GOD bless you.
My pleasure, thank you for watching and your kind words.🙏
Please 🙏 🙏 what is the name of the product used, we are currently battling with termites now
Be very careful where and how you dig.
Great advice, thank you 👍
There are people that are going to tell you to call a professional but the last time I checked, they are not volunteers!
I don’t like terminix they took my money and they don’t do anything, i could do what they did. With no experience.
I purchased my house in 2003 and had termites a year later. I trenched my house like the video 6" and used Termidor. You do not have to re-use for the top soil. I have not had Termites since.
PS: Drill 1/2 holes every 2' in concrete patio and use funnel to get under foundation.
Birds Nest with termidor it’s every 12 inches
Every foot for the patio
for a raised foundation or slab??
@@BobbyRamirez That is correct. I drilled through the slab every 12" and poured it thru a funnel.
@@Eastbaypisces I trenched all around the stem wall 6-8 inch's. All slab areas I drilled 1" bit every 12" and poured it down with funnel
You rock!
My pleasure Heather, glad I could help out. Thanks for watching.😀
Shame on your Realtor for not seeing it.
Thanks for replying! I definitely see your point. I’ll have to rethink how I’ll use the product. Hope you have a great rest of your week👍🏼
Great am a home inspector, from St. Lucia Caribbean island,. I find your video very interesting and informative i learnt a lot from it thank you so much anytime again. For the knowledge.
Mate, it costs $4,000 here in Australia to get termite pest control done on the average house. Thanks for your video.
use Borax it is very effective, safe and inexpensive.
Mike McDonald exactly
My location because of the ground type, 12 inch holes won't work. We have to go with 18 to 24 inch space between holes in concrete. Or the chemical just pushes back up the hole. This is the issue with national companies. They all get trained for the same soil types. I'll stick with my guy. For 800 bucks he did it all for me. Easy peasy. No days of digging. No messing with dangerous chemicals. The guy in the video isn't wearing gloves and a mask for nothing you know.
@MIke McDonald My Harbor Freight hammer drill was less than $100, and I still have the drill when I'm done.
Thank you for taking the time to let people know about this.I'm gonna try it.Nice, clear informative video.
My pleasure, thank you for taking your time to watch.👍
jThank you dear for your help.
I will try to do this because is very sad see my house like it's now.
omg thats crazy, did u know before or just found out??
Did it work veronica?
Thank you!!
Have it already, 20 oz. Can buy bigger ones for retrench. I already have the holes drilled in the concrete where needed to put chemical.
I work on a termite crew. You should have waited till the juice soaked into the trench before filling it. Good luck
I heard that you back fill right away so that the earth you put back into the trench gets treated as well.
I am so glad I came across the video. We used a termite company some years ago with not so good results. I know we have active termites and we are going to use this method. Thank you so much.
Would you mind updating us? Did you have any results? Thanks in advance.
how do u know u have them still???
Finally someone actually wears PPE while demonstrating the use of chemicals.
He used a dust mask really? You have to use a respirator lol . The lable is the law read it .
He used a dust mask really? You have to use a respirator lol . The lable is the law read it .
@@billycarroll9860 STFU, label says nothing about a respirator for use of taurus or termidor outside. Good try though.
Pour this solution as instructed in the video around the perimeter of your home and the area where you saw them come out of the ground.
Good luck
Thank you for this video. I have question that if the house termite issue is beneath the house, do I still treat the out skirt of the house or do I have to go under the house crawling and dig ?
its just the perimeter of the house the termites tough the stuff and take it back to the queen and it kills the nest and it will take care of all your other pests also like ants black widows and can use it for wasps also with cat food mixed
Wonderful
Yep, I am gonna get on this immediately, like tomorrow. I'm in Southwest Florida and had a little swarm around my lamp today.
hi Megalodon... massive thanks for your video.. i learned a lot really and followed exactly your entire process... However, how many times in a year do you usually apply Termidor on the trenches in your house?
One 78 fl. oz. bottle covers 152.5 linear feet, not 100 feet. It takes 3.2 + 1.6 =4.8 fl. oz. per 10 linear feet (main treatment plus back-fill).
Nice video! I think fipronil is the same stuff they use for fleas and ticks on dogs.
Adam Savage ....It is, but never try using this strength or trying to dilute the termite version....IT WILL KILL YOUR DOG!!! ....the dosage on an extra large 88# + heavier dog is only 4ml. of a SUPER diluted version of fipronil mixture....
I would also suggest treating the perimeter of any trees on your property.
Subscribing because of your sheer awesomeness. Thank you!
Much appreciated👍
I'd find a sacrificial container to pour the 4x0.8oz in, then mark where that comes to. Then it's a little easier to just fill 4 gallons then taurus up to the mark in the other container, pour it in and you're ready.
I have two buildings that got termites I was wondering can I use this method to protect my home JIC my home is next.
Termidor HE comes in 79oz bottles which is good for 50 gallons of water (.125) and 2 gallons for every 10 linear feet. Best product IMO.
A big portion of that pay usually companies charge is for insurance purposes for termite warranties
what did u do about your dirt filled porches, other attached slabs and your garage expansion joint...?? do not follow this video it leaves out very important info on the right way to treat your home for termites
IF the termites are coming in under a slab at the side of the house, then you are correct. However, termites don't know there is a poison barrier in the other places, and if they're coming in via the other directions, it's all good.
brood566 what should we do for areas with slabs and patios any recomendations?
Drill through the slab and inject termidor SC at a rate .06% and 4 gallons per lineal foot. Seal holes with concrete.
Lee Bailey Form on a dirt filled porch
Lee Bailey you would have to drill through the patio every foot and apply to the soil then patch the holes up
One thing that would have been helpful was a layman's explanation of what size house the 78 oz Taurus covered.
I did that twice in the last for five years I still have termites
where are the termites and what's your home's construction basement, crawl, or slab
@@Megalodon1 thanks much for your input
If your in a postion to Treat the wood directly, Thats The BEST" For that, use Bora Care
Michael N
I recommend using a power sprayer with Taurus because you can do a house in way less time and you only trenching the perimeter of the house what happens if the termites go under the foundation and hit the wood in the crawl space?
And make sure to do the crawl space
thank you so much i'm doing my self it help a lot God bless.
Thank you , just noticed we have subterranean termites, and we recently moved in to our new home about 5-6 months ago. We even had a termite inspection done and they didn't find anything
Would a pet aardvark work?
Lmao 😊
😂😂😂😂
Do you have a aardvark give it a shot OK ?
Can I pour it on the wood directly? Thanks
DENNIS DOOLEY truuuuuu. Did you see the PPE’s by the way?
about a 100 gallons mixed product , 78oz of termidor average house about 200 linear feet or less.
Its bad in the wrong hands , I agree . drainage to lakes is bad .
DENNIS DOOLEmY
Thank you so very much for this very informative video. I think I can actually do this. Very continued best to you and all!
Appreciate it, good luck.👍
Click here for reference www.domyownpestcontrol.com/do-need-pest-control-license-to-buy-termidor-or-any-qa-1806.html
had to go back and
Excellent presentation. Thank you. I have to do such a job, and now, thanks to you, I know what to do.
I do agree that I could have had the right mask, but I have had no signs of termites since my treatment.
megalodon1 glad to hear. Good research and video. I'm sure I could find some other great practical stuff in your other videos.
As long as your using a mask that’s N95 with a carbon filter you should be fine Termiticide isn’t really vaporous when being applied
Otherwise without this the Taurus SC would spread in a circular manner rather than a straight line
without the accuracy needed to properly do its job. Thanks for watchIng, and hopefully that helps.
Thanks for the video ! great job and very detailed....I have this product and it works wonders for cockroaches too !! it's super strong and lasts a long time.
What if I have mostly concrete around my house and 2 10' plant beds?
Thank you - well done
Thanks for the video.
I have concrete pretty much all around my house. How will you apply that in this situation?
Thanks
this guy is any tradesman worst nitemare.he will get 3 to 4 bids.ask a bunch of questions and then think he can do the work.without a slab injector its hard to do the job the right way.
I saw an exterminator video and he didn't add anything to the backfill. I would think spraying the full strength on the the backfill would be better instead of pouring the diluted 2nd treatment for fear the diluted treatment would dilute the 1st treatment?
