This is also a major problem across SE Asia. They had already eaten 4 teak door frames even before we moved in to our brand new house. Same with neighbour's houses. All fixed now with pesticide and less attractive metal frames. The big nest was removed last year from an adjacent piece of land, it went down and across for many metres underground. Kind of unbelievable how large their city and army was. Cheers Bill, hope your new home is termite-free.
I am very surprised that they have eaten teak timber, because teak is a timber with natural oils that they do not like. I guess they were quite hungry.
Great video Bill. Copto termites are the most aggressive I've been told from an expert. We had them in the garden so got them treated and installed a barrier system around the house. Just get annual checks from an expert now and all is good.
Im sure in Australia the terminates can eat 6 kilos a week but in America subterranean termite colony of 60,000 workers can eat about 1/5 of an ounce of wood in one day. To calculate the weekly consumption, just multiply this daily amount by 7
My place looked even worse than this. The extent of the damage was devastating. . The bathroom @ the laundry was completely destroyed. They even got under the carpet in the bedroom. Cast half a years salary to fix it. 😢
I live on a bush block and my yard is full of termites. It is a constant job keeping an eye on the house, making sure there is no trails in and ensuring there is nothing to give them easy access.
Thanks for showing us Bill. Scary stuff. I've got a termite barrier as my house was built in the last 8 years, plus yearly inspections. Do you think the terminate plasmite barriers work well?
Australian standards recommend getting a termite inspection every 12months. Termidor chemical treatment around your foundations is the best way to protect your house from concealed termite attack.
A number of years back my father renovated a steel frame house, it did have termites (which surprised me). But clearly they would not eat the steel part, but any other bits of wood they find.
@@Spacemonkeymojo There was damage, but I really did not get a close inspection of what went on. Other than I was really surprised to hear about damage to a steel framed house.
Sagging ceiling and cracking in the cornice, that looks like my ceiling but I know in my case it was of really crappy builders. How old is the house Bill? It must have been built before treated wood became a requirement.

Very informative video!! I'll be qualified as a Pesty soon, after that i'll be doing my Termite qualifications. You've given me some good knowledge.
Thanks for this knowledge packed video Bill, I learnt so much about termites.
Great awareness Bill, I would suspect the damage is catastrophic and very costly to the homeowner. 👍
Unfortunately it is👍👍👍

The mud trails are the kicker, I check out side regularly

Fantastic video. Looking at my home around cornices. Lol.

Sounds like you have your hands full👍
Why is bushrock more prone to termites
Sump oil ❤
Holy moly. Interesting stuff!

Well that's why I like Tasmania. No termites in my rental properties to ever worry about .
Far out! That must have been some damp wood!
Wowww so easy to write it off as water damage without opening the wall
👍👍👍
thanks good info.
On ya Bill 👍

Hungry little buggers.
How often should you get checked for termites? Or should you get treated even if you dont know you have termites?
Australian standards recommend getting a termite inspection every 12months. Termidor chemical treatment around your foundations is the best way to protect your house from concealed termite attack.
the bubbling/moisture on the skirting and cornice, was that moisture caused by the termites or form water that attracted them?
Termites👍
Are you better off when the house is elevated off the ground?
How much would it cost to fix all that?
All depends on the extent of damage, sometimes it’s not worth repairing and could be a knock down👍
I think if you have a thermal camera you'd see them in the wall... That size infestation would be obvious on the thermal camera.
Interesting
Nightmare would be your neighbour planting termites on your property. Would steel frame buildings prevent this?
Lol, would hate for anyone to have that kind of a neighbor. Termites don’t eat steel👍

@@davinasquirrel7672I see, in that case was the damage not so bad then?

Hi, is the frame not treated timber?
Treated frames, not mandatory for NSW until a few years ago.
@@charlie-ot5ug would you say treated timber can deter termite ?
Termites will eat treated timber. Treated timber is usually termite resistant, but not termite proof.
What an absolute mess. 😥
Treated timber or hardwood
steel frame or concrete house . the question is why we still use timber frames???
Will this be detected by having a yearly termites inspection?
