There is also no evidence of the comment being edited and as such what I said from the start remains viewable for all to see. I actually like the mixing for the most part.. or lack of it. Though I do get what your saying. After hearing burgandy whip its kind of what i was expecting, so i got what i wanted. thanks for not upping your score just for the fact it was a madlib project. I might not always agree but i respect that you keep your reviews as unbiased as possible and based off the records, not the artist as a whole.
I did not have that problem at all. I can clearly hear the vocals, and I think the production and hooks are the high points of this. The biggest downside is that some of the songs are inconsistent and many of the guest appearances are very bad, for instance those in peroxide, MF Doom in Knock Knock, pretty much everybody in the stroll. I wanted more Blu in the album, and his best verses in the album were in songs where he only appeared once. I have no clue why you think the vocals are messed up, I have zero problem with that, and I don't notice the bass at all. I don't know where you were listening to it, but I have been playing it through Spotify.
from AllMusic: "Following up on their 2013 EP The Burgundy, this full-length collaboration between rappers MED and Blu plus producer Madlib suggests the trio should come up with a group name ASAP. There's so much good chemistry and a sense of purpose on Bad Neighbor that it's easy to see why this crew reunited, and while this is a loose posse effort and not the artistically weighty material fans usually get from the members individually, both MED and Blu's discographies get one their tightest releases to date..."
Come on dude it's got a bit of a lo-fi sound. Every rap record doesn't need to sound clean and 2015... Have you listened to 36 chambers recently. That's probably gonna be 2/10 by this logic.
I personally dig the record, could care less about the mixing & whatever, when I listen to it, it sounds like a buncha guys in a studio havin fun spittin bars & goin back n forth with precision over some Madlib beats especially on Belly Full, to me it's a very loose fun album, Serving, Gettin Money, Knock Knock, The Strip, Finer Things, Drive In, The Buzz, all solid, & the way Drive In & The Buzz fade out is dope as hell...
G-unit member Lloyd Banks just released his highly anticipated mixtape, Halloween Havoc 2. It features flawless delivery, incredible lyricism and perfect Halloween production, a consistency which you could surely appreciate. Get on that review!
Felt the same way. I had to try it on several speakers. To make sure my speakers were broken. But it turned out it was the mixing. Felt so disappointed.
Alright, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who couldn't make out a lot of what was being said. I thought that maybe this was just a stylistic thing or something. this album would be soooo good probably a nice 8 or 8.5/10 but the mixing is so bad that its hard to hear whats being said, anthony you buggin bout the sloppy production bruh i loved the way these beats sounded
I came into this review, without listening to the release, knowing the mixing was going to be a factor. Never listened to MED but being a fan of Blu, and an artist/engineer myself I grew tired of the "Radioshack computer mic" sounding verses and the "I mixed my percussion in a kitchen pantry" sounding beats. When artists get into their creative and stubborn mindsets this is what happens. Quality doesn't end in the writing stage. Rating well deserved.

Sadly didn't walk away away with no more :(. Feeling a 3 out of 5
Your worst review by far
You don't get that some of it is supposed to be muffled, semi Lo-fi and RAW. It's intended. Super weak demo tape? LOL, honestly gtfo
Maybe you just don't know how to look at things from an analytical point of view and just decided to throw a tantrum because he doesn't like what you like.
@@mf_dva well sorry Mr. Intellectual, but there's this thing called ''over-analyzing'' and you and Fantano are deep in it.. its meant to sound like a modern old school mixtape and have this vintage aesthetic vibe... but it just went straight over Anthony's head and you listen and follow him like a sheep... whatever, it's yall loss
@@ficamica1 Maybe you just don't know how to look at things from an analytical point of view and just decided to throw a tantrum because he doesn't like what you like. It's not about being an "Intellectual" and simply agreeing with someone else's point of view does not make me a sheep. Regardless, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm not obligated to view or interpret the music the same way that you do. What's more I literally did not say anything about agreeing with Anthony. I simply pointed out that he was just throwing a tantrum about Anthony not agreeing with his opinions in the matter It's called being impartial. You seriously need to do something about that anger. It will only continue to cloud your judgement and cause you to to react before you properly and thoroughly assess the situation at hand.
@@mf_dva dude, stop trying to be high and mighty, i know im an unstable boy and you're smart, but you should just try to get high and you might be able to enjoy this art...
@@ficamica1 I'm only going to say this one more time. Read the comments you're replying to, actually read them, or don't bother replying. There is no remark in the comment you replied to saying or implying that I agreed with Anthony. I just said that the guy was just mad Anthony disagreed with him. There is also no evidence of the comment being edited and as such what I said from the start remains viewable for all to see. You then got ahead of yourself, got excited and went into full fledged keyboard warrior mode. There is nothing sheepish whatsoever about being impartial and you, like the guy I replied to, are just lashing out due to hurt at people not having the same thoughts as yourself. You sound more sheep than you claim I do, to be honest. It's really not as deep as you're trying to make it out to be and my or even Anthony's not agreeing with you is no reason to throw a tantrum.
Imagine giving a KSI album the same ranking as a MF DOOM, and Madlib album... this guys number 1?
he gave madvillainy a 10 though
"The stroll" stands out for me...the fucked up mixing makes sense there
There's no chipmunk samples on the Aloe Blacc track, "Drive In". Aren't those in "Birds"?
It's sad that the mixing is so bad. :(
BLU's curse
+yung squid lmfao yes
+yung squid omfg so tru
Jio'vanni Delvalle yikes son
good lo-fi rap is Madvillainy bc you can actually hear his voice
Review some grime artists (English rap) as it is getting quite popular now, especially skepta
+alistair p YES. Little Simz - A Curious Tale of Trials + Persons would be a great place to start
+alistair p None of them are releasing actual albums yet though. Probably why USAnthony FANtano hasn't reviewed grime yet
+Oblivion9873 that does not matter, he could still review albums like blacklist regardless of how old it is
Blacklisted*
Oblivion9873
Little Simz released her album in October....
Ah, the curse of being an audiophile. If that's not a problem for someone then the rating would be way higher honestly.
Who here had to rewind the video and look at that UCLA album cover a couple times?
Just by the names on the collab, I didn't think you'd think it was this bad. I'm gonna listen to it, but damn.
Plot-twist: Anthony listened to it through 99 cent headphones via a Skype conversation, from his cousin in Lithuania
Come on dude it's got a bit of a lo-fi sound. Every rap record doesn't need to sound clean and 2015... Have you listened to 36 chambers recently. That's probably gonna be 2/10 by this logic.
I personally dig the record, could care less about the mixing & whatever, when I listen to it, it sounds like a buncha guys in a studio havin fun spittin bars & goin back n forth with precision over some Madlib beats especially on Belly Full, to me it's a very loose fun album, Serving, Gettin Money, Knock Knock, The Strip, Finer Things, Drive In, The Buzz, all solid, & the way Drive In & The Buzz fade out is dope as hell...
review Majical Cloudz's new LP "Are You Alone?". it's pretty special imo
Anthony, every single day you make it harder and harder to defend you
G-unit member Lloyd Banks just released his highly anticipated mixtape, Halloween Havoc 2. It features flawless delivery, incredible lyricism and perfect Halloween production, a consistency which you could surely appreciate. Get on that review!
I completely agree. it was maybe 4 tracks I dug. The beginning of the album sounded early 00s hip-hop with very little substance. Just my opinion.
now i have confirmed he actually doesn't know anything about music since he gave trash ass donda a better score than this classic smh
Felt the same way. I had to try it on several speakers. To make sure my speakers were broken. But it turned out it was the mixing. Felt so disappointed.
Just because the album title refers to you, doesn’t mean you had to call the album loud and annoying for 6 and a half minutes
Alright, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who couldn't make out a lot of what was being said. I thought that maybe this was just a stylistic thing or something. But I really dug Drive In, favorite song. That Piñata album looks so damn cool in its Vinyl glory, makes me want to buy one for my self even though I don't even have a turntable haha
Watched the full review and I still don't hear the same mixing issues you do. I could hear everyone clear and I really liked this record.
I gotta agree, this would be a cool--ish album if the mixing was better, I can hardly pay attention to the lyrics which sucks because a Madlib-Blu album sounds cool as FUCK
I am surprised by the rating in all honesty. Sure the mixing may be off, but it felt like you were reviewing the mixing instead of the tape itself. Oh well, I definitely love the beats on knock knock and belly full.
Blu rarely makes any music anymore without bad vocal mixing. It's so frustrating.
Hi Anthony! I would be more than happy to see you reviewing the debut album of the finnish blackmetal band Saturnian Mist, called Chaos Magick. They won't disappoint you, or lets say that their style will definately provoke thoughts and opinions!
this album would be soooo good probably a nice 8 or 8.5/10 but the mixing is so bad that its hard to hear whats being said, anthony you buggin bout the sloppy production bruh i loved the way these beats sounded
Where's the new Panopticon review?
Anthony, why haven't you reviewed Will Butlers debut solo album Policy? I've been waiting for your take on it for so long now :(
They made the record they wanted to make. If it doesn’t sound like you think it should, sorry.
The set album doesn't have an harmony that unifies it, although there's songs that individualy give quite good vibes
Lyrically I’m indifferent, but those beats are nuts. Burgundy Whip is shockingly good.
