@@Carl-x8y3c thanks for the comment, Ford had some issues with these cars but a lot of improvements were made over the years, these cars suffered badly through poor maintenance and a lot of this was brought on by Ford mechanics.
@@Diggers-Garage Thanks for your message. And giving the information about that particular model and its problems. I was very young in 1971, and I remember checking the teachers car in the school carpark and thinking I don't like the design of it. It was definitely a change in looks from its predecessor.
To THOMAS LIVES IN A NEW COUNTRY NOW. I would have thought the spare would last for at least a reasonable time, because it's right at the front. My first car, was Honda's first car, the N series. A VERY cheapskate Mini - but CHEAP secondhand! THAT didn't have the spare in the boot (still leaving room for your shopping), like the real Mini. The Honda had the spare under the bonnet. RIGHT ON TOP OF THE ENGINE It lasted one year before deteriorating, of course!
I used to have a dark red one but mine had a different grille. I ripped out the bench seat and all the column shift stuff and converted it to floor shift from a later K reg. The V4 was an awful engine, always breaking down. I blew up and replaced three of them before scrapping the car in my temper, lol. It drove me nuts that thing.
@@morrismckinnon6047 thanks for the comment, had plenty of V4s that people have run out of patience with that have given me years of reliable service, once I've set them up correctly.
Would the v6 engine be a straightforward swap in the v4 s place.?Is the v4 car the same body shell as the v6 version. I asked because there doesn’t seem to be a lot of room for the extra length the v6 would take up. Had the 3 litre version in New Zealand. We never got the v4 model.

To glen miller From NYGEL Miller I'm afraid that from the point of the style, you aren't getting it. This styling, also on the 70's PRINCESS, was deliberate. It was to make the front look powerful, but not make the overall length look relatively compact, by having a "tucked in" boot. BUT (certainly on this model) , the boot was, what estate engines would call "deceptively spacious" !
@@heartofoak45 thanks for the comment. It was 88 bhp it moves the car along quite nicely as video of me on motorway points out, maintenance was the main issue in coursing low power output on these cars not a over heavy car Zephyr.
I presently own a pristine 1979 Mk II Granada 2.8i ghia - light metallic blue with black vinyl roof - with the large diameter alloys. The later Mk II's had the Cortina ghia alloys which did not look half as impressive. Always wanted one as I worked in a Ford dealer in 1978 / 1979 and the boss had a few brand new white 2.8i ghia's. He would only allow me to wash it as he knew I was a bit of a perfectionist. I loved driving the new Granada's - even the 2.8 GL's were awesome cars. It had glass eyes and I'd put a bulb into its head and wired it up to a tail light it was a disaster waiting to happen. I went for safety first and put an inline fuse in the wire and it after a while it went pop . I sorted it my fix was to cut the holder out twisted the wire together and covered it with tape!!!!!
Nice car mate. They were everywhere when I was a kid. Do you also like the earlier Zephyrs / Zodiacs, the ones with the fins? I would empty the ashtrays, but I guess its your call! I remember when I ran Mk2 Jags, they labelled the lighter as "Cigar Lighter". Pure class! Thanks for the videos.

If i remember rightly, it was a four speed box, and the boss who had had a previous Zephyr could never remember to use the fourth gear.

Hi 👋 Greetings from New Zealand. When i was at primary school level i had a teacher who drove one of these Zephyrs in 1971 . It was exactly the same colour as this one . They didnt sell well here in NZ . I think there engines werent reliable.
The only problem was that the gear stick pin used to snap off and left you with only two gears 2nd and 3rd and no reverse
@@annstenson324 thanks for the comment, bought them in the past with cable seized.
You should try to relocate the spare tyre in the boot, it has space, because it will eventually become bad in the heat and oil vapours.
@@thomasLivesInANewCountryNow never put a spare on to be honest
@@Diggers-GarageWHY never put on a spare?
To THOMAS LIVES IN A NEW COUNTRY NOW.
I would have thought the spare would last for at least a reasonable time, because it's right at the front.
My first car, was Honda's first car, the N series. A VERY cheapskate Mini - but CHEAP secondhand!
THAT didn't have the spare in the boot (still leaving room for your shopping), like the real Mini.
The Honda had the spare under the bonnet. RIGHT ON TOP OF THE ENGINE
It lasted one year before deteriorating, of course!
Very nice. Is it original paint, as I gather the Silver Fox tended to suffer from peeling/crazing back in the day...
@@FMFGUF thanks for commenting. Had one repaint obviously will have been down to issues you mentioned.
@@gordonrosswhitehead5052 thanks for commenting, yes V6 will go straight in but you need V6 radiator which has different mounting brackets and bigger, pushing it further to front of vehicle giving more room.
@@Diggers-Garage Thanks for that. That answers my question.I should also add that I put in a ford 289 v8 in mine and when you cut out the spare wheel compartment they fit in quite nicely. Had it with the zephyr Four speed gearbox as well.Went quite well.A 289 v8 isn’t that much heavier than the v6 all I had to do was get the front wheels realigned.Look forward to your next post.Cheers.
they kinda looked like a stretched mk2 cortina.
nice car but the zodiac executive was the one to have.you felt like royalty
@@joeoria4497 thanks for commenting. Got some early Zodiacs but to be honest I prefer the Zephyrs less is more. Lot more trim on Zods and exec's and getting hard to find.
Always found the mk 4 oddly proportioned, they should of made the boot longer by 6 inches with a bit more overhang, but still a lovely motor..
@@glenmiller272 thanks for the comment, would have never got the name short back if they would have done that.

From NYGEL Miller
I'm afraid that from the point of the style, you aren't getting it.
This styling, also on the 70's PRINCESS, was deliberate.
It was to make the front look powerful, but not make the overall length look relatively compact, by having a "tucked in" boot.
BUT (certainly on this model) , the boot was, what estate engines would call "deceptively spacious" !
What he say? Nice car.

I never knew they put a V4 into a Zephyr, I presume the same one as a Corsair. I have to say it must have been grossly underpowered.
@@heartofoak45 thanks for the comment. It was 88 bhp it moves the car along quite nicely as video of me on motorway points out, maintenance was the main issue in coursing low power output on these cars not a over heavy car Zephyr.

@@alanoliver535 thanks for commenting, sold a Consul L 2.5 a 72 while back was alright but Zephyr better riding car.
This was peak Ford in my opinion - it was all downhill after that. Still think the Mk 4 Zephyr was the ugliest car ever made though - sorry.
@@Lar308 Interesting point but if this car didn't come along the Consul or Granada never would have. Cars through the years change due to demand in different areas 2.8 cologne was never the best effort Siamese ports restricted torque performance massively.
