the references to past songs, the whole song being about parts tony has played (like the guy who loved dana or the lighthouse guy), the song changing from slow ballad stuff to fast stuff like ecliptica, this feels like the climax to this bands entire discography and its awesome 10/10
What's particularly brilliant about this song to me are the pivotal points around 0:49 and 6:16 where the subtle shift in perspective about the unchanging facade the singer wore on stage implies the significant passing of time. The songwriting took a similar turn in "What did you do in the war, dad?", but it feels just that much more powerful here.
I can just see Tony's facial expressions during the part from 01:56 to 02:21 :P "White Pearl, Black Oceans" is still hands down my favourite Sonata Arctica song, but this one is really really good :-)
This song starts off with the exact same piano note heard at the end of the 2008 version of the song of wolf and raven. From the end of the beginning, to the beginning of the end... I hope to bring this song to fresh ears one day. You mean everything to me Tony, wish you could hear me, but for now, I remember you.
