I spent my highschool days listening mostly to Blind Guardian and I can't express how glad I am that Hansi is still being recognised as an amazing vocalist that he is.

A new youth for our mutual friend Hansi: back on orchestral project, back with Jon from IE on Demons&Wizards new album and live dates ... and this back in team with his long time friend Tobias (Vain glory Opera song still kicking asses and giving lesson about good old power metal style).
It seems to be the anti-scarecrow.. The Scarecrow album was about the creature [Scarecrow] looking for love, acceptance into the bright new world he was exploring to escape the monotony of his dark fields he tended.. Moonglow on the other hand, is the story of a nocturnal creature that sees this bright world he never knew existed, and he avoids and runs away from the light, instead preferring to bask in the "Moonglow" of the dark night.
I love this comment. I was thinking this album was significantly more positive in tone and feel and this song in particular has a strong resemblance to The Scarecrow. That resemblance is so strong that I've mentally logged this as their second greatest piece under The Scarecrow, but the lyrical interpretation you offer is so apt. I think what I love about both pieces, adding to your contrast, is that the lyrics and singing in The Scarecrow are masterful, as is the instrumentation and composition. However, they shine independent from one another. The Raven Child is quite different. Through almost the whole song, with equal lyrics, singing, instrumentation, and composition, there's a constant play off each other. The strip of bars between 3:15 and 4:03 is an example of this. They accentuate and boost one another in this conscious effort that makes this song the star of this album. Great catch with the "anti-Scarecrow."
I see that theme for sure. For me, this album was more of a loose concept about escapism, which means a lot to me being that I love fantasy and fictional stories since they allow me to get away from this world for a bit while enjoying another world where I can actually make a difference.
each album goes through a different school of magick. Ghostlights was Thaumaturgy, The Metal Opera was Abrahamic, Scarecrow was Ars Goetia, etc. Moonglow is Alchemy. So in the context of Alchemy, Salt is female, Sulfur is male and Mercury is the Hermaphrodite.

This is one of Tobias Sammet's best weapons, to become a born leader by enhancing the virtues of his collaborators, admiring them and promulgating a respect that shows that it is sincere. Definitely this song becomes a Masterpiece.
Wow. Tobi is really the "God of songwriting". The Intro is... cannot discribe it... It is the Heart of the "The Bards Song", the atmosphere and the voice extracted and then he put it in a great Avantasia Song. Absolute amazing.
My God Tobi, what have you done... Music that almost brings tears to my eyes... THIS is exactly WHY human beings are equipped with ears, to listen to a musical score pumped out by a genius musician who creates scores that make love with your ears. Hail the new album of the little Mozart of Metal, Tobias Sammet!
Dear Tobi, First and foremost, we would like to shout out the BRILLIANT fact that releasing a single over 11 minutes long takes some SERIOUS BALLS of steel 😍!!! This clearly shows that you value your fans above "radio-friendliness", as the classics would call it. This song is EPIC, DREAM-INDUCING, POETIC and TRANSMUNDANE beyond a single drop of doubt 😍! Your world and your music together have become an EVER-ENCHANTING universe that your fans and friends can elope to. THANK YOU for your dedication, your passion, and, above all, thank you for your gift. KEEP THOSE METAL HORNS UP AND ROCK ON!!! \m/ \m/ 😍 😍 😍 😍 😍
Hansi makes this song absolutely amazing -steals the show completely. Never new he would fit so well into Avantasia! And amazing songwriting form Tobi of course. This album sounds like it could be their best since Metal Opera II
Those who compared the genius of Tobi with the likes of Mozart and Shakespeare weren't really stretching anything. He's indeed a truly distinct mastermind of composing from our time. It's a breathtaking effusiveness and poetic awe, which are converged so distinctly (hence the "Avant-Garde" style) which still, it yet happens for me to get a bit lost haha. I would be very thanked if someone could share their personal mindblows and interpretations towards this magnificent piece.
The moment I saw they were finally touring in Australia I bought a ticket. No hesitation and fuck me this track has just affirmed how good a decision that was.
@@Moonsunband there was never a doubt about that, its Tobias after all. That lad made me fall in love with music time and time again for like 17 years. I'm so pumped for it! I cant believe how much this track has given me goosebumps, its metal, its rock but it's so beautiful...
Oh damn I love T. Sammet's singing style, the vibrato, how he finishes phrases, such a delight! also Kursch sings like a medieval fairy tale character, always imagined him like some sort of a prophet in the dark ages
The show I went to in Los Angeles was AMAZING! They played for 3.5 hours, it was SO GOOD, even though Tobias was sick, he still rocked it out the whole night! Hansi wasn't there for it, but Jorn and Geoff and the others were, it was epic. :)
So I went to the Waken page this afternoon and more than a few people were disappointed this band wasn't on the bill so I came here to check them out. I'm going to do that more often. This band is awesome.
One suggestion guys at Nuclear Blast Records. You list out all the vocalists but you should also say starring Sascha Paeth, while at it, Michael Rodenberg and Felix Bohnke.
I love Blind Guardian, but especially the Hansi Kürsch's voice, he should take part in more Avantasia's albums. Great work Tobias!!! I've just done my pre-order, i hope all the album sounds really epic like this.
Hansi should take part in every power metal band. Now that would be great for the genre. -To be fair though, the oversaturation of Hansi's voice would cause it to devalue, which would be very bad for the power metal economy. So perhaps it's best it stays this way.-
Kompositorisch/Texlich absolut spitze. Glückwunsch Herr Sammet! Ein Meisterwerk
I am truly floored!!! Came here for ft. Hansi, I don't follow Avantasia closely but I'm definitely hooked into this album now! What a fucking masterpiece. You guys are GODS. Hansi's voice is legendary.
Of course the whole song is masterpiece but I dont know why, the part "A fire in the dark for the fool ........ " has some rare melody that I have to repeat it for cca 5 times until I let the song continue. Tobi is genius.
Literally freaking crying!!!! I love this song so much! Heard it for the first time yesterday and it made me tear up... my dog died yesterday and this song made me remember him. Thanks for this release, Tobi. Your music always knows how to move my soul! I can't wait to see you next year!

@@BootlessMan thank you for the kind words. :(. My dog actually loved watching avantasia videos with me when I was home and cooking. We had good times together. I am just looking so forward to this album! This song alone is so well written and the celtic and gregorian elements made it even better!!!
Holy Crap, that chorus inspires so much emotion, it's so powerful! This is going to be the best album since The Scarecrow (not saying others were bad, because Avantasia CAN'T make bad albums)
@@blindg7092 Agreed. Scarecrow was definitely the point where Avantasia lost some of the magic (funny enough, that sorta happened to Edguy as well.) Ghostlights was a change to the better, but im hoping that Moonglow really can showcase the potential which Metal Opera I-II held 😉

Tobi and Hansi, working together again! Finally!
Hansi is back, would be nice to see Roy Khan and Andre Matos again too.
ROY should retire urgently!!!!!
@@felipperodrigues8448 Retire ? Why ? xD he's one of the greatest, and his work on the newest Conception EP is astonishing.
@@monsieurbreakdown4814 Far from being one of greatest dude.
Nowadays can't sing n he suffers emotional sickness.
Sorry, i can tell u a lot of better singers easily!!!!
@@felipperodrigues8448 Well, you obviously didn't hear the new conception EP...
@@igoralves7258 Dude,i know Roy and NC almost 15 years. Roy is sick n lost the little bit of voice he had.
U can be a Pavarotti on Studio man,sorry. I'm not a hater,just a realistic man.
It is the Heart of the "The Bards Song", the atmosphere
and the voice extracted and then he put it in a great Avantasia Song.
I see everyone talking about Hansi, and while I agree he was great, I think Jorn really stands out in this
I have no words to describe the feeling I get when I listen to this song. So damn powerful. Tobias, Jorn and Hansi killed it.
Avantasia is Fantastic
Words will never be able to describe how much i love this song. This has quickly became my favorite song
This song is a masterpiece! Jorn's voice is always incredible!😍
This is more than music, this is magic! Tobias is truly one of a kind...
Dear Tobi,
First and foremost, we would like to shout out the BRILLIANT fact that releasing a single over 11 minutes long takes some SERIOUS BALLS of steel 😍!!!
I'll tell you what is truly magical... The way Hansi says the word 'magic'.
It's pure perfection! I love his voice
Anything Hansi touches turns to pure gold.
Hansi makes this song absolutely amazing -steals the show completely. Never new he would fit so well into Avantasia! And amazing songwriting form Tobi of course. This album sounds like it could be their best since Metal Opera II
Well, as a guest in Edguy he was fitting like it's his band, so no wonder
He is fitting everywhere he sings.
@@cvetageorgieva4312 Ah yes I completely forgot about that! That was on "Out Of Controle." Great performance 😊
Truer words were never spoken \m/
I want to see Tobias work with Steve vai I can’t even imagine the melodies that would come from it
This song is absolutely incredible! Can't wait to hear the whole album in February
Yes we're so looking forward to listen to the whole masterpiece! 😍
Cant wait :D
1:01 jesus man, the first time I hear this I had to cry, Hansi's voice is so epic
OMG it's soooo amazing!!! So happy that you're back, Tobi! 😍
*Who is going to visit Avantasia on tour?*
MEEEE and it would be so great when Hansi would join the tour this time!!!!
@@mr.mystery9876 Oh yes, that would be reaaaally aweome!!! 😍🤘
The moment I saw they were finally touring in Australia I bought a ticket. No hesitation and fuck me this track has just affirmed how good a decision that was.
@@tomfrost6049 Yes, definitely! I'm sure it will be an outstanding show! 💕🤘
One word: Breathtaking! This song is so beautiful and it's way more than I expexted the first single to be. Moonglow is gonna be awesome😍
Nice profile picture ;)
Aurelia, you are a relative of Tobias Sammet?
@@user-22DmitryNZaguljaev78 I wish haha

And his german, but perfect english? I just love this guy.
Wow !!! Danke Tobias .🤘Danke Hansi 🤘Danke Jorn🤘Danke Avantasia !! 🤘👍👍👍👍👍
It's very dank indeed
I would even go as far as to say "Dankeschön"! :D
Danke? Does that mean donkey?
@@waldendgreat9274 it means thank you in german
Each of these three men have suuuuuch distinct voices yet they each pull their weight and add so so so much to the song
I approve of anytime Hansi Kürsch sings, so this is a win.
Costa Rica 🇨🇷 is waiting for you again!
This is one of the best things that happened to mankind. Thank you for existing.
listening to this album was magic. The live show was idk best performance i've ever seen in my whole life.
The show I went to in Los Angeles was AMAZING! They played for 3.5 hours, it was SO GOOD, even though Tobias was sick, he still rocked it out the whole night! Hansi wasn't there for it, but Jorn and Geoff and the others were, it was epic. :)
I couldn't get tickets to the only one within a decent distance :( I would kill to hear this and Lavender live!
3:30 my favorite parts of this song, thank you to make this awesome thing, Avantasia.
I feel like I'm about to embark on a quest.
Got me on that one😂
So I went to the Waken page this afternoon and more than a few people were disappointed this band wasn't on the bill so I came here to check them out. I'm going to do that more often. This band is awesome.
Hansi is amazing
One suggestion guys at Nuclear Blast Records. You list out all the vocalists but you should also say starring Sascha Paeth, while at it, Michael Rodenberg and Felix Bohnke.
Absolutely right!
They also do not mention Oliver Hartmann and Herbie Langhans. I will give them credit.
So perhaps it's best it stays this way.-
The "whoah" part got stuck inside my head and i thought it was some lotr song until I remembered it was this. XD
I'd take the opportunity to check out more Avantasia. In my opinion, everything they do is a masterpiece. :)
Pieza Maestra
Of course the whole song is masterpiece but I dont know why, the part "A fire in the dark for the fool ........ " has some rare melody that I have to repeat it for cca 5 times until I let the song continue. Tobi is genius.
Literally freaking crying!!!! I love this song so much! Heard it for the first time yesterday and it made me tear up... my dog died yesterday and this song made me remember him. Thanks for this release, Tobi. Your music always knows how to move my soul! I can't wait to see you next year!
I'm sorry for your doggy, i know how bad it feels... 😢 luckly for us we have Avantasia to warm our hearts in these moments... and all the others. Everything is going to be okay, ALWAYS. 😊
@@BootlessMan thank you for the kind words. :(. My dog actually loved watching avantasia videos with me when I was home and cooking. We had good times together. I am just looking so forward to this album! This song alone is so well written and the celtic and gregorian elements made it even better!!!
Hansi´s voice give me life! thank you Avantasia!! Hansi , Tobi and Jorn
such a masterpiece
JORN LANDE
every song just takes this band on to another level, cannot wait for the album
Holy Crap, that chorus inspires so much emotion, it's so powerful!
This is going to be the best album since The Scarecrow (not saying others were bad, because Avantasia CAN'T make bad albums)
This is gonna be better than Scarecrow. It's not Metal Opera level, but it'll be close to it I think ;)
@@MichaelHolmgaard if this song sets the tone for the whole record, then you're right
Scarecrow was too polarized. About 6 good songs. The rest had too many ballads/mid-tempo fillers.
I respectfully disagree, I found the new style refined and refreshing after the Metal Operas, but oh well :)
I haven't been blown away like this since I discovered The Scarecrow by this band!
This is INSANE 3 of my favorite singers in the same song. There is no words in the dictionary on how amazing this is
Has to be the best song Tobias has put together. What a performance.
3:30 Hansi has so much power in his voice.
Masterpiece! I was only a kid when I first listened to metal opera and this took me back to it.
9:05 First Time I listened to this song, I went "YEAH" Right after this part because of how much It blew me away, And It was at the exact some time they sang it in the song, And that made me happy

I literally got to this part and thought this AS I noticed this comment!
My first Avantasia. Was just listening to a nice theme in the background. I didn't expect the explosion. Wow!
Tobi can't do no wrong.
Who else is taken back to Vain Glory Opera goodness because of Tobi/Hansi ?
Perfeito !
MY LIFE IS A CHAMBER OF TEARS, FEAR AND HATE!
What a wonderful song... Hansi voice is always good to listen.
Simply another great song that will never be forgotten. Thanks to you all for making this possible Avantasia
Man, this is just fantastic ! Combination of Tobi, Hansi and Jorn ? Just too good...Just not sure about the first time when the intruments kick in, the mixing in that part is a little strange, the sound kinda compressed I on't.know... But anyway,.what absolutely amazing track, Tobi is a genius ! I LOVE Ghostlights, but this is their best song since Scarecrow in my opinion
Let the storm descend upon me? Best in my opinion
@@scottcampbell7033 completely agree Ghostlights is my favorite album by them.. when I saw them live it was unbelievably amazing😝😝😝😝🤘
I'm not ashamed to say this brought tears to my eyes.
God, I love listening to Avantasia. They just have that magic you can't help but want more of. It's beautiful.
6:47 to 7:48 is pure chills down the spine every time I listen to it.
My favorite part of the song easily
