Born Lois Obee in Yorkshire, England, Sonia Dresdel (1909 - 1976) was a prominent stage actress who sprang to stardom for her performance in the play Hedda Gabler in 1942 and she made her first film in 1947, The World Owes Me A Living. Now sadly long forgotten, she was an immediate hit and quickly established herself not just as a stage actress but also as a film star making hit movies in films such as While I Live, also in 1947. She had a long film career with her last movie being Last of the Long Haired boys in 1968 which she switched entirely to a TV career with her final performance being in The Pallisers, a TV mini-series in 1974. She also moved into theatre directing and another successful career.

Indubitably ! And she simply shrugged at his sarcasm. I laughed out loud at that scene ! 🙂
Cheers!!!! The Television Mysteries are even better than most movies from Hollywood!! that's why the TV is mostly on TCM {Turner Classic Movies} when I'm not watching UA-cam!!
Great title... didn't quite understand it until the very end..... What a great movie, and excellent suspense, acting, and layers upon layers. Thank you for the download!
Thank you the info, always interesting to know how the careers of the major stars of the past have developed.
@@soniavadnjal7553 It is a pleasure to share information with a fellow film buff!
~ I loved Sonia in 'This Was a Woman' and 'The Fallen Idol' with the wonderful Ralph Richardson.
Wonderful. I'd never heard of this film before. Thank you.
Great flick, acting and supreme ending! I just love these old flicks! I'm so happy they preserved them.
The ending changes everything.
GREAT.
Wow!!!!! What a marvelous movie, just wonderful and the woman who played the leading female role, Sonia Dresdel, was fascinating. Everyone was very good in the film but she really drew me in with her character. Thank you for posting this fine movie. We lost a lot in the ensuing years in terms of acting, scripts and movie plots/ideas. Now, it's only vulgarity, disgusting content and lack of originality.
The twists just never stopped coming

Thank you for posting, excellent film, i thought it was heading in the direction of a farce or mannered situation play but the double twist was completely unexpected. Thoroughly enjoyable.
What a fantastic ending.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So Unexpected, so understanding on why she felt that way, puzzle falls in the right place.👏🏼
I remember having those chenille covers growing up. Obviously a hit in Australia.
Impressive, opening musical score! Superb film to view on a rainy Saturday afternoon ....
Surprisingly good. A denoument impossible to anticipate. Lovely. Thank you.
What an amazing film, I didn't expect that ending. Most films now are so easy to see through, I can usually guess what is going to happen , they all seem to follow a particular agenda. What happened to natural talent? Everything seems to be devolving. Thanks for posting another great film.
I love these movies . Thank you 🙏 for posting!
This was a very good, suspenseful movie& kept my interest throughout! Thank you,so much,sallis65 for showing it!
Thanks for sharing. B movies are absolutely the best! Love all the plot twists. Happy viewing from Las Vegas, NV September 28, 2018
"I thought I better listen so we could all tell the same lies" LOL
What a wonderful find! One of many greats 😊
thank you so much for posting this. very good flick. I've subscribed to see more.
A mystery to the end. I love them that way. What would I do without my 40s, 50s, 60s, British B&W movies. Thank so much for posting.
Old is Gold ! Love these Classics Such Real Acting my Late Mom named me after her Uncle the Great Alan Mowbray whose Career in Old Hollywood began in the 30ies.
Wonderful, Thank-You!
(I loved the surprise-twist at the end!)
Thank you for this..I totally love old pictures
I love British movies. They always entertain me and make me SMILE
All of them?
Wish you would give a brief description of what the movie is about.
IMDB "The Third Visitor" 1951, Mr. Richard Carling is found dead in his home with a house full of suspects.
@@generalpublic3744 ...and a tangled web of secrets and lies. The alternate title could have been "Bored Housewives Up to No Good...what else is new?".
The 'posters' couldn't give a damn what it's about, let alone summarise it.
It's all about 'clicks'. They'd show a black screen with just the sound of a moose 'farting', if they thought they could make money from it.
The triple twist. So many pleasurable small moments in this film. The gin joint bar. The gorgeous clothes. The beautiful voices. The Strtatocruiser. Foggy London. It’s best watched twice to observe the unraveling of the characters.
Yep,knowing an insane person is looking for me I would not open the door to just anyone! Everyone should have a peephole!lol
@Roxy Valenti Did you see 'No Country for Old Men'? I will never look through a peephole again! Hehe.
@Sheila T. You are right! But I just can't. Hehe.
Yup, like searching a dark basement after hearing an unfamiliar sound.
What an intriguing film. A mix of bad with good acting poor with good dialogue and what turned out to be an interesting plot. I was going to switch off not long after the beginning but decided to stay and glad I did.
Hesitated to watch this hitherto unheard of mo ie for me . On a very dark wet Sydney night so I gave it a go . Glad I did . Full of nuances , twists , puzzlement and excellent English diction , it was a rewarding experience. So British and un-American .
America movies suck and I am an American.
Mr. Richard Carling is found dead in his home with a house full of suspects. It's a 1951 British crime film directed by Maurice Elvey and starring Sonia Dresdel, Guy Middleton and Karel Stepanek. It was based on a play by Gerald Anstruther, and filmed at Merton Park Studios.
Cast
Sonia Dresdel as Steffy Millington
Guy Middleton as Inspector Mallory
Hubert Gregg as Jack Kurton
Colin Gordon as Bill Millington
Karel Stepanek as Richard Carling
Eleanor Summerfield as Vera Kurton
John Slater as James Oliver
Cyril Smith as Detective Horton
Michael Martin Harvey as Hewson
Great little movie! Thank you for uploading.
John Slater's American accent was very good - remember him in Z Cars folks? Pretty obviously a stage play crudely adapted. My how they all smoked in those days.
Synopsis: An American visitor, bent on revenge, goes to England where he encounters murder and switched identities.
6:37 you could drive a bus through that door!
Thank you so much for posting these. Telly is such garbage any more. Another good ghost movie and one of the best is The Uninvited.
Susan Schmitt shame you can't find it in UA-cam anymore .
@@sugarpop7377 I know. I had a bootleg VHS copy I made from TCM many years ago. I found a DVD of it on eBay which I’ve had for more years than I can remember. I was delighted to find a digital copy on Amazon. The book is good too btw.
I really enjoyed this movie. Nice ending
Have I missed something - Cowley was bashed with the statue by one person and then later shot by another? And the team of mice making the background noise adds extra character to the viewing experience.
That's what I was wondering tool. It seemed he was bashed in the head,, but we didn't see it happen so, maybe his favorite antiques were destroyed instead. (Or, less likely, maybe Cowley was dreaming it, or it was an alternative ending.)
A mice team. I was wondering what that was. Thanks
What an extraordinary film! Distinctive costuming. I really enjoyed this. 💛
what a great movie. moved me to tears
Best era for films. This period, and onwards was so atmospheric with the actors as well. British films were the best, and still remain so. It is a pity that the British parliament attacked the industry, destroyed it, as with all things British.
VERY suspenseful and complicated.
At the very end I couldn't figure out how and why the victim was killed and how we should have been able to so.
Good luck! Surprise.......
