I love these old American utes so much. My dream one is a 1970 f350 dually 4x4. I’m so keen to watch this thing progress and it’ll be sick seeing it with the Cummins in it.
Ahhhhhhhh! It's like Christmas day! Been waiting for this build series. As an American that loves older trucks, especially Chevys this makes me so happy. Those trucks are well built and won't let you down. Easy to work on. All I drive is older trucks. Y'all Enjoy the hell out of that truck! Cheers TJ & Mac 🍻
Ahh been hanging for this build for what seems like ages, Maca you didn’t disappoint!! Compound turbos, built axles and coil overs to come too!! Man this is going to be a beast on the tracks 🤙🏻
A coolant filter traps scale and corrosion buildup in the cooling system. Our larger farm tractors all had them. Over the road semi trucks often do as well.
Coolant filter is for slow release of SCAs in the coolant to maintain required levels. In particular blocks prone to cavitation require correct SCAs kept up. That's be my guess for the filter. The filters come preloaded with SCAs. Is a thing with trucks, pooley would know being a cummins dude..
It is not so much a filter, it contains anti corrosion chemicals that are slowly leeched out into the coolant as it flows through. Standard fit on earthmoving and mining gear with larger engines than standard light vehicle engines.
Love this build! Always loved these style rigs. Looking forward to seeing this completely finished. One day I’ll find an old F100 or F350 like dad use to have and build on up.
love everything about this, i had one of the nicest looking OBS f250's with a 7.3L powerstroke here in sydney, recently sold it. this video makes me want to get a chev now haha.
If the coolant sits in the engine long enough, it tends to react with the iron (or aluminum) inside the engine. The filter is to subtract those small corroded pieces so the rest of the engine will rust less rapidly. (It's basically a sort of anti-rust system.) The coolant filters are commonly used on bigger diesel engines such as cats for bulldozers, but also on some bigger car engines.
First video I’ve watched of yall, love the truck. That first scene about how impractical and overpriced those old trucks are is on point. Yall might wanna put some captions from time to time, that down under dialect is hard to pick up on for a novice. It’s ok people dont understand southerners either. From texas
boys, I can feel a dad segment coming on. Regular side eps giving dads tips on how to camp and wheel with a miso and kids. Please start with how the camper trailer has changed things for you. TJ what have you been doing mate? Finish the job, your like 37 or something?
man i cant belive youtook everything off the block to paint it lol the one thing i know cummins for is the nice factory red and black paint over every connector and wire
Very keen to see how that 8 speed goes with the mega ton of torque once thats engine is tuned. Im very close to getting one for my 79 thanks to you Maca 😂.
Gday, I’ve been waiting for this to start, absolutely shit hit build, all the trucks I’ve drove (Kenworth, Mack, Freightliner) had coolant filters, its to catch and scale and shit floating around, top job mate, cheers
Mate metric threads are easy to know the drill size you don’t need a chart. just take the pitch off the shank size eg 12x1.75 thread needs a 10.35mm hole, 10x1.5 thread needs a 8.5mm hole, 8x1.25 thread needs a 6.75mm hole ect.
you should keep the np205 transfer case because it's far stronger than the landcruiser one which i have my doubts would last behind a 1000hp cummins that would have around 1700nm of torque.
@@macpreston that's why you use a 205 so you don't have to get one. you can also beef them up as well. the downside of the 205 is 1.96:1 low range but that won't be an issue with the low revving diesel and auto it'll still crawl. and these days you can get parts from usa just as quick as from melbourne or perth.
Caterpillar run coolant filters along with most heavy machinery.. some say helps with keeping coolant levels.. my opinion is saving thousands of dollars worth of radiators and waters pumps if a part fails or corrosion. I'm putting coolant filter on my rig to stop blocking radiator cores if I have a good mob of shit come shooting out of the block!
Howzit Gents, awesome channel and prob the best build I’m looking forward to. How did you guys start out to get where you are with your shop etc, I’m from South Africa and am really keen to start the same….
Any information would be amazing, I’m looking to swap my 1960 ford one ton flatbed Dooley with a 12v Cummins but not too sure what to use for a transmission, rear end and front axle.
Ah someone like me...pays too much then tries to reverse engineer everything purely based on the love for the vehicle & its history! My wife thinks I'm a genius 😂. Luckily for me she's stuck with me unlike many of the poor vehicle decisions I've made over the years...i love this thanks guys! 😊 ✌️
That trans isn't going to last behind a Cummins, even in stock form. If you're considering 1000 whp (you've got a long way to go still), you might want to check out what's behind 1000+ whp diesels; a built FMVB 48re. No need to waste time and money "experimenting" when people have already done that for the better part of 20 years and figured out what works best. A 1000 whp Cummins build is quite easy, if you know what you're doing, and there's several (Firepunk, Horsetorque Diesel, etc) who go into the details on how to get there.
Keeps crap, like casting sand, rust etc from circulating and clogging stuff up. My heater core is full off crap, my oil to water heat exchanger once clogged as well.

Thanks mate always great to hear we have American viewers 🙌 thanks so much 🙏
Cheers mate! Cant wait to enjoy it on and offroad!
Im doing something similar with an old 67 C30. I cannot say how awesome it is to see this being done! Cant wait to start.
Great to see you back in the shed doing what Macca does best! This will be fun!!
Yep the big Chev is gonna be a beast
Ahh been hanging for this build for what seems like ages, Maca you didn’t disappoint!! Compound turbos, built axles and coil overs to come too!! Man this is going to be a beast on the tracks 🤙🏻
Super cool to see one of those old trucks getting somewhat of a restoration
Yep gonna be a big build 😅
A coolant filter traps scale and corrosion buildup in the cooling system. Our larger farm tractors all had them. Over the road semi trucks often do as well.
Looking forward to seeing the whole build
It’s going to be a rippa 🤩
What an awesome build series this is going to be.
Keep in up boys
Metric tap drill size is thread diameter minus thread pitch.
Example: M14x1.5
14-1.5=12.5 tap drill size
100 percent 🎉
Bloody awesome to know thanks!!

That 8speed will last one decent drive
I dont think it will last the dyno run haha but what we have planned for the second 8 speed will be sweet!@@wildcustomsandmechanical6528
Ah makes sence ive learnt something new!!
Can’t wait to see this monster finished! K20 for the win!
Love this build! Always loved these style rigs. Looking forward to seeing this completely finished.
One day I’ll find an old F100 or F350 like dad use to have and build on up.
Heaps cool! Cant wait to see it done!!!
What a wikid build! Keen to watch this one.
Absolutely love the channel. Keep up the great content 👍.
Thanks, will do James !
Another fun filled episode, the introduction was man
Soooo good!
Great episode and progress
Cheers
Jim
🙌
@9:48 It's just like a usb; you have to try to plug it in both sides before it will go in
love everything about this, i had one of the nicest looking OBS f250's with a 7.3L powerstroke here in sydney, recently sold it. this video makes me want to get a chev now haha.
Haha yeah for sure! , it’s gonna be a big build 😝
I’m beyond excited for this build!!!
Welcome back lads. Hope you had a good new year and chrisy 👍🏽🤙🏽
Thanks jesse you to mate!
Best body style of any pickup on Earth!
It would be amazing to see this thing on a trip like the old telly track when it's done!
I think a coolantfilter is in there to filter rustparticles from the engine.
That also makes sence! A few replies have said it conditions the coolant aswell!
Love what you blokes are doing. Brilliant channel 🤙
Thanks so much !
Yes, I've been waiting for this build. Sick😎👌
Gonna be a beast

Keen for this build 🤙 twin turbskies sounds like fun 🐌🐌
What an awesome build guys, pumped to watch this.
Was panicking for a moment. Thought you and macca had left us, up the Cummins!
Never ! 😝 it’s gonna be a beast
Coolant filter guess - They had a rusty radiator or heater core, and used it to catch the metal flakes running through the system.
jeez i love these guys so much
🤩🙏
EVERYTHING NEEDS 1000+ HP! 👑🔥
🤣 how about 2000nm ? 😜
Sick truck with that ShedLife twist
Man, gagging to hear this thing run and spool up.. 🤤
Spooly boi is gonna be wild hey
First video I’ve watched of yall, love the truck. That first scene about how impractical and overpriced those old trucks are is on point.

Great idea ! I will do for the future episodes on this build 😎
What's the go with the new 79 round the side of the house at 16:30 🤔 new giveaway ? 💁♂️
🤫🤫
I'll buy tickets if it's a giveaway my 79 due for a tip run amd just leave it there
Still newer interior then a 79 series hahah love the content.
hahaha legit
1:29 ahhh that's where our pallet trolley went 😂

TJ what have you been doing mate? Finish the job, your like 37 or something?
haha im working on him do youtubers get paternity leave tho?
man i cant belive youtook everything off the block to paint it lol the one thing i know cummins for is the nice factory red and black paint over every connector and wire
Coolant filters prevent cavitation mate. Like the work 👍
Very keen to see how that 8 speed goes with the mega ton of torque once thats engine is tuned.
Oh true ! So it’s a truck thing to have eyyy
Because old cast iron blocks rust internally and a filter will stop your radiator from blocking up and keep the engine cooling system running smoothly
this build is going to be so sick👌
OMG FINALLY 😱
Here we go 🤩
Coolant filters are pretty common in heavy vehicle applications as are things like diff oil filters etc
Diff oil filters are interesting!

Yep all an experimental process at the moment , turns out the 79 transfer doesn’t work so will be going a different route next episode 😎
@@macpreston that's why you use a 205 so you don't have to get one. you can also beef them up as well. the downside of the 205 is 1.96:1 low range but that won't be an issue with the low revving diesel and auto it'll still crawl. and these days you can get parts from usa just as quick as from melbourne or perth.
might have coolant filter for when it was in america it gets really cold you might be able to turn it off so truck warms up quicker
I’m frothing this build so hard already
That’s so sick
Gonna be a beast 🤩
This is gonna be awesome, keep the patina, way cooler !!
Where did the adapter plates come from for the transmission and T case ? Allison
8speed.au They are located in Brendale, Brisbane
You normally see those coolant filters on industrial diesels. Lot of Cummins and CAT have them
Sickkkkk boiz this is that good!!!
Finally! Can’t wait to see it get sent! Wonder if you’ll finish your engine swap and coil overs before I finish my engine swap and coil overs? 👀
Haha sounds like a race to me!
Still a better love story than twilight
HAHA yes couldnt agree more 😂
Nice patio ornament Mac🧐
😉😉

Makes sence for sure!
Loving the content fellas!! I see a cheeky brand new 79 in the background there 🤔 new build giveaway? 🤷🏻♂️
YEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAW BRING ON THE K TRUCK!
Don’t forget the killer grid heater bolts see Gale Banks for these
Grid heater is deleted thats for sure!
Sitting in the engine bay is good to work on the big rig and it would be even easier without the bonnet on it…….get tj around to help lift it off 🤣🤣
Ol simo seems like a top bloke
Bloody good egg ol simmo!
Terrible proyecto me encanta este tipo de videos, por mas felicitaciones👍👏👏👏👏👏🇦🇷🍻
😜
“Gained some time,” man do I understand that statement.
hahaha its hard to come by that time stuff lol
Was that not a gear driven NP205 transfer case? Why pull that for an aluminum Toyota case? The 205 is basically indestructible.
Omg u guys never have a bad vid
Well thank you 🤩
Howzit Gents, awesome channel and prob the best build I’m looking forward to.
How did you guys start out to get where you are with your shop etc, I’m from South Africa and am really keen to start the same….
cutting with plasma and doing all that work in flip flops is crazy!!! but good job guys
Wicked. cheers lads
What 8 speed do you use mate? Is it a zf? Just watched further and saw it’s a 8hp. All g mate :)
Yep same as the cruiser , if it breaks Mac plans to replace with a fully built version 💪
New cruiser in the back there 😂
Will the zf hold up to the Cummins? I know they are solid but that motor is well over its rated input torque?
We shall see, have some plans for the 8 speed
Where did you get the adapter plat for the 8 speed transmission and what 8hp 8 speed transmission are you using?
Came here for the same reason
8speed.au They are located in Brendale, Brisbane
FYI look at most trucks with a Cummins engine they run coolant filters
Any information would be amazing, I’m looking to swap my 1960 ford one ton flatbed Dooley with a 12v Cummins but not too sure what to use for a transmission, rear end and front axle.
Are you guys going to relocate the ECU under the dash or somewhere similar?
u using the 8hp gearbox? if so where'd you get the bell housing adaptor made? im looking for one for similar build.
You need to get the banks 6.7 intake to prevent engine damage due to the grid heater!!!!
TJ what size and offset wheels you run on your NAV???
17 0mm offset 🤟
"using a seat belt because we lost the chain" Love it
Chevy dream car 😍❤️
how good
Yesssssss when is episode two??
the box as you call it is a ZF or a Allison?
Ah someone like me...pays too much then tries to reverse engineer everything purely based on the love for the vehicle & its history! My wife thinks I'm a genius 😂. Luckily for me she's stuck with me unlike many of the poor vehicle decisions I've made over the years...i love this thanks guys! 😊 ✌️
haha thats gold! Youll enjoy this one than!
The original 205 t-case you pulled out is stronger than any 79 or 80 series t-case.

Anyone else spy another house deposit in the background next to the house 👀
Could be your house deposit this year 🤫
@@macpreston too much money 💰 🤑
Who is offering the adapters to install the 8HP to Cummins? I hope there's room for radiator. cooling fan and intercooler.
What Tig/mig welder do you use?
Unimig mate!
I see a new 79 series tucked in the corner? 👀
Definitely witness a little Durrys Customs Easter egg
You sure did!
Living every aussie blokes dream
Keeps crap, like casting sand, rust etc from circulating and clogging stuff up. My heater core is full off crap, my oil to water heat exchanger once clogged as well.
There ya go! Makes sence!
oh shit how'd u get an American truck down under. cool to see
