@@viniciusp718 the steam controller is simply highly misunderstood. I've used the Steam Controller and absolutely destroyed Tech Yesterday's aim lab scores he put up with the thumb mouse. He even commented on my videos showing the higher scores! ua-cam.com/video/kz6suVKfm8U/v-deo.html for proof The Steam Controller simply got really bad main stream reviews, because in todays climate news articles and reviews only make money within a small window of the products release... and the Steam Controller takes time to learn how to use and develop the muscle memory for. Time main stream reviews couldnt give it because of the "pump and dump" news/review/article cycle. And unfortunately, main stream reviews have a HUGE impact on public perception. So of course everyone thinks its a bad controller... But if you stick with it, the Steam Controller is legit the best gamepad for pc that (was) on the market.
Counter point to the wire, I'd lose the thumb oreo. Add magnets and I could see the possibility. Or a way to store the grip. Nontheless making it wireless would be a massive pain. Maybe in the future.
You're a genius. I really hope this thing becomes a consumer product. I'm a mouse and keyboard player who for some reason can't even hold a controller right. This seems like the perfect solution for me to play some games that play much better on a controller.
you should experiment with steam controller gyro aiming i use the touch pad for fast movement and the gyro for smaller more accurate movements like aiming
lol how without using steams entire idea and just relocating their buttons on their controllers. that is what he did on all his hacks. cool relocates none the less
@@Keltzzzz I have 5 different actions under left touchpad , outer and inner ring action + same on right touchpad , I don't even need to take off my thumbs from touchpads anymore
If you were to make a touch controlled version of this magnificent peripheral, I would suggest using a glass touchpad. While glass may not be the best material for a touchpad if you are taking into consideration friction, almost everyone has an innate understanding of how to use a glass sensor because we all use touchscreen phones on the daily. I believe it would be VERY easy to familiarize one's self with a touchpad version of your masterpiece if it felt like a phone screen instead of a ultra low friction material.
@@caslusotas9038 thats what i use the touchpad for, with the mouse controller, you're gonna have to swipe a couple of times to 180 while maintaining precision but with steam controller i just swipe once.
You should add a gyro aswell in place of the mouse wheel aswell as adding trackir too this or face track no ir(free alternative) to make it not only on the level of the KB+M but better
This might finally balance the playing field between PC and Console players! with all the crossplay games coming out this would be incredible, amazing work bro!
Great work! I think the easier solution would be for games to have gyro aiming like Splatoon 2 have. The PS4, PS5 and Switch controller already have gyro, it's just a matter of implementing it!
This is an interesting idea, but a normal controller with gyro aiming solves the aim assist problem while also not having to remove most of the controller to make room for a pad.
oh man, its nice to see that people want to see improvements to controllers. No one has come close to building somthing as flexible as the steam controller, but this is very close. I suggest putting a gyro in v4. Also www.cirque.com/circle-trackpad-dev-kit I think these are the high precision trackpads used in the steam controller.
It would basically become a steam controller... which is fine to me. The steam controller is amazing for shooter's and it bums me out that valve stopped producing them
Your top score with the thumb mouse was 36k? After maybe 6 attempts, my top score with the steam controller touch pad only was 35k. So.... About on par. My score with gyro though? Well over 70k. The gyro gaming community at large? Pushing 90k. Even our least competitive players are over 50k. Gyro is just so much better.... So this confirms my suspicions about the thumb mouse; it shares its weak link with the touch pad, which is that the thumb is horrible at aiming. Always has been.
Also, you can solve the friction issue on the touch pad by using thumb socks. They were made for mobile device screens for mobile gaming, but work surprisingly well on the touchpad
This is the first I have seen or heard of something like this. I played around with building a few custom joysticks/HOTAS a while back. Fun stuff. Keep at it.
people at valve, sony or microsoft ought to take a look at this!... this dude will benefit from a creative environment to fully nurture and push his boundaries.
7:39 those potentiometers from the right stick (2 green squares on the left of screen) that you have soldered, what are you using those for? You're aiming with the mouse sensor in place of right stick, correct? So just wondering what youre wiring the extra potentiometers to?
id really like this controller because it would help me get better game play for my youtube channel, been using a PS4 controller for Ironsight for pc and i get recked by mouse and keyboards everyday... i am also a bot like you lmao
I’ve seen a lot of modded controllers and thought they were cool concepts. This is the first custom controller that may actually replace the ones we use today. This may even help with ergo and boosts performance
This is very cool! You are doing extremely advanced and great job! I hope such devices like mouse controller and gyro aiming will become industry standards someday)
Checking out your gameplay and aimlab footage, i am confident now, that you are simply reinventing a steam controller with larger active zone(the likes of which you yourself admit is being excessieve). Since you also use only one thumb for aiming. For starters let's us do some math. You showcase your touchpad having ~3.5 inch height and widnth. But it reality it's smaller wince you can't move a sensor closer to a side than it's radius. which is around 0.4 inch(diamter is ~0.8 inch), so 3.5 - 0.8 = 2.7inch square of usable space. And steam controller has 40mm touchpads which is roughly equals to a circle of 1.57inch diamter, So what you essentially do, is add an extra inch of active tracking space, which you yourself admits, not always comfortable using despite having large hands(btw i myself too has a large hands and motion ragne of ~1.57 inch diamter circle of SC feels comfortable for me, but when i go out of it even half an inch, i feel tension in my thumb muscles) The absolute lie about touchpads being "choppy". It's very unetical of you to spread misinformation about all the touchpads having some sort of "choppiness" while tracking. Most of them do not. For example i have both Steam Controller and logitech K400+ tv keyboard with rouchpad at my side right now. Even if i press with all my force on k400+ touchpad (which you for some reason do in you video, and you shouldn't, since no one does this with their pointing deices) it's exhibit as little as 1-5% of choppiness you showingj, with all of it vanishing when i stop pressing on it like it ows me money. The lie about friction. The fact that you say smartphone screens have some sort of friction and as much as touchpad is preposterous. Everyone who owns a smartphone and sometimes clean the screen know that glass has almost zero friction. Touchpad's on the other hand has some friction, and yes it has an slight effect on you gliding speed, but not precision(at least on Steam Controller). It's more about having a feedback for you actions. And the amount of force friction touchpads provide is oh so much less, than the amount of inertia having to move a several grams of opticals sensors on your thumb provide. Like thing with mass have enertia. Thumb on touchpad have an inertia of thumb minus surface fritction(which is negligeble and wears out with time). Thumb + a sensor weight equals more inertiat + mouse legs friction (which they have, unless theare pure aluminium sheets or something). (btw on steam contoller the friction wears out after 100 or so hours of usage) The superior quality of Steam Controller touchpads. Steam controller on the other hand has zero chopinnes, no matter if you squish it down or not and in my tests has so much precision, that it's possible to use it as a device with absolute (non relative like mouse) cursor moving on a fullhd screen. This is because Steam Controller has special industrial grade touchpad made for a precise aiming with no acceleration (which is the actually real notebook touchpad problem, alongside cheap office mouse optical sensors if you didn't know), but with the ability to implement it in software alongside trackball style sliding. So unless you have a similar grade touchpad, or at least tried the "normal" notebook touchpad, you wouldn't experience any "chopinnes". You should buy Steam Controller and test it for yourself. Or you maybe even buy devkit with it's touchpad, the manufacturer sells it for around 70$ with evertying soldered and connected to arduino. check out ifixit teardown. Of cource having lots of additional buttons is a godsend. The wheel is meeh. I personally fing it not very helpful in an active game where you need to juggle you weapons constantly. The thumb claster fori instant weapons changing is the best. But the wheel with good amount of tension is indeed a second best thing after that.
not to mention thumb socks. he glues his thumb mouse module to a thumb sock for better fitment. a thumb sock on its own literally solves any complaints about friction with the track pad. I use one with my steam controller, its pretty awesome.
Or really any gyro capable controller. I use a 3rd party switch controller on pc and it's a game changer. The future is already here, people just choose to ignore it
@@padrecharles_ Exactly. It hardly changes the form factor people are familiar with ao you can play mouse games and traditional games with them instead of just shooters.
Your video is very inspiring - it's a real gamer approach to design that corporations lack. Modern existing controllers of the classic format are not able to fully meet the requirements of players who have switched from mouse control (especially in first-person shooters or real-time strategies). I really hope for a successful development from the concept / prototype to the final commercial product. Greetings from Russia.
Not knocking what you guys are doing but I've got better results on aim labs using gyro with both the dualsense and steam controller. There's videos of guys reaching over 90,000 with the steam controller also. In saying that if your controller was released, I'd buy it.
This is the answer. Steam controller is not only better, it is highly customizable and works for all games with different controller and wasd and mouse +keyboard bindings. And GYRO!
What an insanely awesome idea. I can imagine, so many small things could be changed for comfort and efficiency. Wish there was a way to take a closer look. I imagine making the thumb attachment somehow easier to attach would be a pretty important upgrade. Some sort of latch or trapping system, that could easily be removed with index finger pressure or something along the line. A long thing to explain in comments. I'd love to jump onboard for help if there was a discord or anything (I'm a mechatronics student always interested in this sort of stuff and design challenges) . Anyways good luck! excited to see more.

Im glad ive watched all the videos in this series. Interesting thought. what if instead of using keyboard keys for your button replacements you use the tack buttons used on the easy claw controller. Should allow you to add more buttons along the top and in the controller handles. (4 along top and two on each side) just a crazy idea i had
So honestly the design to this is so impressive that I wouldnt take away or add anything else to it. Maybe some side buttons like on a gaming mouse? But also i think this controller would improve my gameplay because i came from PC. @@GoblinArmyInYourWalls have you ever used a steam controller? it's a piece of trash. If you watched the video, it mentions the difference
@@viniciusp718 the steam controller is simply highly misunderstood. I've used the Steam Controller and absolutely destroyed Tech Yesterday's aim lab scores he put up with the thumb mouse. He even commented on my videos showing the higher scores! ua-cam.com/video/kz6suVKfm8U/v-deo.html for proof
The Steam Controller simply got really bad main stream reviews, because in todays climate news articles and reviews only make money within a small window of the products release... and the Steam Controller takes time to learn how to use and develop the muscle memory for.
@@viniciusp718 Trash? I own 2, it's the best controller I've ever used. I can almost certainly bet you've never used one to speak of it like that.
@@GoblinArmyInYourWalls They are so good that they stopped selling
This looks just about perfect. The two changes I'd make: remove the wire, and bring it out of this youtube video and put it into my hands :P
Can’t wait to get this on the market this will improve aiming in every video game imaginable
This is the greatest invention since the wheel !
Came from basically homeless, just wanna say continue doing what u doing man
you should experiment with steam controller gyro aiming i use the touch pad for fast movement and the gyro for smaller more accurate movements like aiming
Still btter that this "mouse controller". The main problem with controller aiming is thumb movement.
lol how without using steams entire idea and just relocating their buttons on their controllers. that is what he did on all his hacks. cool relocates none the less
I guess we’ll have to wait another 10 years for this to be available on the PS6
I got 77k on gridshot with steam controller gyro, I reckon its probably better than this thing. Also don't have to attack a mini sock to my thumb.
the steam controller was so underrated! still using mine for rocket league ^^ hope they make a v2 someday
Can u do 180° quickly while maintaining precision in gyro?
@@caslusotas9038 thats what i use the touchpad for, with the mouse controller, you're gonna have to swipe a couple of times to 180 while maintaining precision but with steam controller i just swipe once.
dude holy s!@# you're almost there. don't stop. make this happen.
This is literally a multi million dollar idea! I hope you see much success with this brilliant concept.
Steam controller
THE FUTURE
people on low sens be like: "where is my space"
Great work!
I think the easier solution would be for games to have gyro aiming like Splatoon 2 have.
The PS4, PS5 and Switch controller already have gyro, it's just a matter of implementing it!
I would really like to know how close is the feeling to a touch screen fps game, Amazing product btw
This is an interesting idea, but a normal controller with gyro aiming solves the aim assist problem while also not having to remove most of the controller to make room for a pad.
This would change the way people can play improving their over all aim just like how you showed us in the video
Steam controller
oh man, its nice to see that people want to see improvements to controllers. No one has come close to building somthing as flexible as the steam controller, but this is very close. I suggest putting a gyro in v4. Also www.cirque.com/circle-trackpad-dev-kit I think these are the high precision trackpads used in the steam controller.
Just for the sake of overkill, I would add a gyroscope.
It would basically become a steam controller... which is fine to me. The steam controller is amazing for shooter's and it bums me out that valve stopped producing them
not sure if he's an engineer i think your asking alil much from a hack/relocate lol. cool idea though
@@Keltzzzz No-no, he's adding it. lol. He stated it somewhere in the comments
bro that's the future, keep working on it and one day you'll be remerbered as the man who upgraded the cotroller experience for all gamers
I would add macros functionality to this as well. And the shell could be 3D printable so you can add colour customisation or affordable replacements.
PATENT THIS ASAP BRO, BEFORE SOMEONE FROM BIG COMPANY STEAL IT!!!! btw good job, genius product design indeed
China will, no doubt
genius like this appears every 100 years
Your top score with the thumb mouse was 36k? After maybe 6 attempts, my top score with the steam controller touch pad only was 35k. So.... About on par.
My score with gyro though? Well over 70k.
The gyro gaming community at large? Pushing 90k. Even our least competitive players are over 50k. Gyro is just so much better....
So this confirms my suspicions about the thumb mouse; it shares its weak link with the touch pad, which is that the thumb is horrible at aiming. Always has been.
Also, you can solve the friction issue on the touch pad by using thumb socks. They were made for mobile device screens for mobile gaming, but work surprisingly well on the touchpad
nice to see people innovating in 2021
I have been wanting this for years!!!! I pray this becomes a full company
Dead ass I’d buy one from you
That’s cool so when is this going to available to the public?🧐
Dude I thought your Pfp was a hair on my screen 🤡

@@musty8613 yeah lol
if you are going to manufacture these, try contacting reWASD for software support
This is the first I have seen or heard of something like this.
I played around with building a few custom joysticks/HOTAS a while back. Fun stuff.
Keep at it.
Great innovation my dude. Definitively a well needed upgrade to the controller. Could change future gaming completely.
people at valve, sony or microsoft ought to take a look at this!... this dude will benefit from a creative environment to fully nurture and push his boundaries.
Valve already did this controller and it's called Steam Controller.
Mouse is why I have always gamed exclusively on PC, this is pretty innovative man.
I’ve seen a lot of modded controllers and thought they were cool concepts. This is the first custom controller that may actually replace the ones we use today. This may even help with ergo and boosts performance
Increíble lo que has logrado amigo, espero que tu proyecto de frutos muy pronto.
You could add a "button" to the sensor. Like when you press down, it shoots. It'd need to be a sensitive button for it to be usable tho
This is very cool! You are doing extremely advanced and great job!
I hope such devices like mouse controller and gyro aiming will become industry standards someday)
Havard: bro you want a scholarship?
Checking out your gameplay and aimlab footage, i am confident now, that you are simply reinventing a steam controller with larger active zone(the likes of which you yourself admit is being excessieve). Since you also use only one thumb for aiming.
For starters let's us do some math. You showcase your touchpad having ~3.5 inch height and widnth. But it reality it's smaller wince you can't move a sensor closer to a side than it's radius. which is around 0.4 inch(diamter is ~0.8 inch), so 3.5 - 0.8 = 2.7inch square of usable space. And steam controller has 40mm touchpads which is roughly equals to a circle of 1.57inch diamter, So what you essentially do, is add an extra inch of active tracking space, which you yourself admits, not always comfortable using despite having large hands(btw i myself too has a large hands and motion ragne of ~1.57 inch diamter circle of SC feels comfortable for me, but when i go out of it even half an inch, i feel tension in my thumb muscles)
The absolute lie about touchpads being "choppy".
(btw on steam contoller the friction wears out after 100 or so hours of usage)
The superior quality of Steam Controller touchpads.
It's still just your thumb. That steam controller already dose this.
It does this but better because most people use it in tandem with gyro aiming
Yeah I still use my steam controller religiously and even bought 2 replacements which are still sealed for when my original breaks.
Hear me out, try nintendo switch joy-cons gyro aiming that's already so close or equal to mause aiming TRUST ME! use it in fortnite
Dude you are amazing. This is so brilliant. I hope you are able to patent this and get it out to all of us stick users. Great job
Bro, with trackpad I have 37k-42k points on gridshot :D
@@pawes7418 Really wow. Then this thumb mouse controller really is a waste of time lol
@@CandarianGaming It's not waste of time. But steam controller is overall a better device. I will upload my trackpad gridshot run soon :)

I bet everybody is gonna start doing flicks on this controller,
Future controller games would HAve To disabled aim assist XD
Just buy a steam controller
Anyways good luck! excited to see more.
i dont even play controller but this looks sick.
if you were to kickstart this in 3 sizes or colors, you could get quite a bit. Also if this does get produced, make sure to have a left handed and right handed version
This is the future... im waiting 4 years that some one make a controller like this... go for it !!!
This thing with a soft mousepad = perfect
So honestly the design to this is so impressive that I wouldnt take away or add anything else to it. Maybe some side buttons like on a gaming mouse?
But also i think this controller would improve my gameplay because i came from PC. I've always complained that it felt like o was at such a disadvantage due to being so restricted to a basic circular motion for aiming. I think this alone would change so much out gameplay.
Subbed and bell on ❤
Bro, for real ,this just blows my mind, you are a genius dude.. amazing
Well this is REALLY cool. Well done, you! V5 will be epic.
